Did Disney Buy Alcatraz Island?
Image
New rumors have been swirling that Disney bought Alcatraz Island to add a new Disneyland theme park, but is it true?

No. Disney did not buy Alcatraz.

The rumor and report came from a known parody site- Mouse Trap News.

In the article, they indicate that the Walt Disney Company bought the infamous prison for $30 billion to create a unique Disney theme park experience.

They also joked that the experiences would tie into the location, like allowing guests to Larp as prisoners or guards, or the Ghost of Alcatraz ride, which is their version of the Haunted Mansion.

Here is what Mouse Trap News posted,

“They will allow guests to play the role as prisoners and prison guards, experiencing what life was like at Alcatraz alongside Disney characters. There is even an escape element where guests can try to escape from the island and make it safely to land.

Disney will also add attractions,...

Disney terrifies fanbase with latest social media stunt
Image
Disney Parks have been the symbol of magic and wonder for generations of theme park guests for decades. While that's certainly a legacy maintained to this very day, sometimes Disney can do things that really make our skin crawl.

Although fixtures like the Tower of Terror, Expedition Everest, and the iconic Haunted Mansion are designed intentionally to give us the shivers. Sometimes, Disney can be freaky without ever meaning to, and that's what makes it all the more unsettling. Case in point, a new video from "it's a small world."

Disney gets weird with promotional Pov "it's a small world" at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom. Photo courtesy of Matthew Liebl

One of the hip things to do on platforms like TikTok and Instagram is to post Pov videos. Things like "Pov: you wake up at your favorite beach" or "Pov you went to the eye doctor as a kid.

Marvel has potentially cast a major star as "new" MCU villain
Image
Glistening from her latest step-and-repeat at the 2024 Fashion Awards inside London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall, Rita Ora may have made headlines for a completely different reason. According to UK tabloid The Sun, Ora was enjoying casual conversation when something other than fashion talk was overheard.

“A friend of mine was rubbing shoulders with the singer at the British Fashion Awards when they overheard Rita chatting about her new role,” the article reads. “They told me: ‘Rita was dressed like a baddie from a Marvel film, and when someone commented on it, she let slip she has a part in a new Marvel film. She confirmed she had landed the role of someone evil and that she was super excited about getting stuck into it.’”

The potential reveal has definitely caught some fans off-guard, as no Marvel Cinematic Universe outing has yet to confirm Ora as part of its cast. But...

Ariana Grande is speaking out about Disney not changing this iconic ride
Image
A major star is talking about Disney not changing the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and with a "Wicked" tongue to boot!

The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror has just celebrated its 30th anniversary as one of the most iconic attractions in all of Disney's history. Opening at what was then the Disney-mgm Studios, the attraction wonderfully integrated the classic TV series into a stunning attraction as fans loved the drops and amazing theme.

The ride was replicated for California Adventure, Paris' Disney Studios park and then Tokyo DisneySea. The latter had to be changed as The Twilight Zone isn't that famous in Japan, so the ride was altered to an original story of an explorer.

The California version was changed in 2017 to Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout, using the popular Marvel characters and a rock soundtrack. It's become a big success while the Florida version still retains the Twilight Zone themes.

Ariana Grande Pleads With Disney Not to Turn Twilight Zone Tower of Terror Into a Marvel-Themed Ride in Disney World
Image
Ariana Grande has a request.

The 31-year-old Wicked actress and pop superstar made an appearance on Las Culturistas, where she spoke out directly to Disney asking them not to re-theme the Florida version of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror ride into Marvel‘s Guardians of the Galaxy, as they did in California’s Disneyland.

“I want to speak on the Tower of Terror because I love and respect the Guardians of the Galaxy, of course I do. I think it’s a beautiful thing, it’s great, it’s impressive, it’s amazing. I’m a big Baby Groot person,” she began.

“I don’t remember much about her, but I love her,” she continued, adding “it’s not angst, it’s dire desperation” to keep the Florida ride the way it is.

Keep reading to find out more…

The 10 Best Rides At Disney's Hollywood Studios, Ranked
Image
Look, I won't mince words: I love the Disney theme park experience. Every year, my family and I head to one of the magical kingdoms and dutifully churn out 25,000 steps daily, zipping from ride to ride at the house Walt built. I love the food, the atmosphere, and how excited my girls get when spotting Disney princesses throughout the park.

Now, my preference is Disneyland in California, due to its numerous attractions and dizzying entertainment collection. However, I always take advantage of every opportunity to visit Disney World in Florida, specifically Disney's Hollywood Studios. While featuring only a fraction of Disneyland's rides (other rides can be found in neighboring parks), this colorful tourist trap still packs enough goods to warrant a day-long visit.

Which rides should you focus on during your stay? I'm glad you asked, because I've devised a list of the top 10 rides at Disney's Hollywood Studios,...

Tom Hanks' New Movie Is Secretly the Disney Adaptation Fans Always Wanted
Image
As the first trailers for Here drop, Disney fans realize it's secretly the adaptation they've always wanted. In recent years, Disney has struggled to discover the kind of movies their audiences gravitate towards and the properties they want to see on the big screen. While they toy with reboots, sequels, and spinoffs, Here may have cracked the code by channeling one of Walt Disney's most beloved attractions: the Carousel of Progress.

As odd as it may seem, Here is, in many ways, the big-screen equivalent of the nostalgic ride that has enchanted visitors for over half a century. Intriguing in its premise and ambitious in execution, the movie prepares to make its home in theaters globally, promising audiences an emotional roller coaster ride across the ages. Here is centered around a special place in New England where loving memories flourish across the decades, following generations of characters who find comfort in each other.

A Forgotten Muppets Crossover Failed to Honor The Haunted Mansion
Image
Quick Links Muppet Haunted Mansion Was Disneys Second Movie Based on the Theme Park Attraction Muppet Haunted Mansion Lacks True a Plot Disneys 2023 Haunted Mansion Film Is the Best Haunted Mansion Film

Disney's The Haunted Mansion attraction has a fabled past. The facade of the attraction was constructed during Walt Disney's lifetime in the New Orleans Square area of Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California. However, following Walt's death in December 1966, the mansion sat undeveloped for years, and guests began to wonder what the mysterious building held in store for them. Since its opening, many different iterations of the attraction have opened in Disney Parks across the world. Following the successful release of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003), Disney released a movie based on the attraction starring comedian Eddie Murphy.

Murphy's movie was not nearly as successful as Pirates and still holds a 13% from critics on Rotton Tomatoes.

Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Needs To Happen Because Disney's Potc Replacement Plans Are Doomed To Fail
Image
Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is crucial for Disney's success, as previous attempts to replace it have failed. Other movies based on Disney rides, like Jungle Cruise and Haunted Mansion, have failed critically and commercially, shining an uncertain light on upcoming films of the same ilk. Despite dwindling critical reception, Pirates of the Caribbean continues to be highly lucrative for Disney, proving a sixth installment is needed.

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has had an uncertain future for a while, yet it needs to happen to avoid Disneys replacement failures. While the ranking of Pirates of the Caribbean movies naturally differs for everyone, many would agree that the original trilogy by Gore Verbinski contained the franchises strongest installments. Although flashes of greatness were found in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, they did not quite match up to their predecessors.

Season three of You're the Worst has already been quite the roller coaster, but tonight's hour-long finale was like the Tower of Terror.  In the aftermath of S--tstain's wedding last week, all three of the show's main couples were in serious distress. Edgar had abandoned Dorothy to go write sketches, Lindsay had told Paul she had an abortion, and Jimmy and Gretchen unleashed some painful truths about what they were thinking about their relationship.  Tonight, they all had it out, and it's possible that none of the couples survived, despite a marriage proposal that would have had any murder-loving Angeleno's heart aflutter.  Lindsay and Paul are definitely...

Video: Hong Kong Disneyland's Iron Man Experience Ride Takes You Inside Tony Stark's Tech
Slowly but surely, Disney's acquisition of Marvel is spreading into business areas outside of merchandising and movies. Theme parks are a big one right now with the Guardians of the Galaxy taking over Disneyland's Tower of Terror, and now Iron Man has his own ride in Hong Kong Disneyland. We wrote about this when it was first announced a few years ago, but now there's a video (bonus: Stan Lee is in it) that takes us through what the ride is like.

ScreenCrush points out that 45 visitors at a time will load up onto a cutting edge piece of Stark Technology called an "Iron Wing," which essentially serves as an oversized version of one of Iron Man's suits, and fly through the skies of Hong Kong when suddenly the city comes under attack from Hydra agents. Check out the video below, and let us know if you're thinking about...

Disney theme parks have really been changing things up in the past few years. Sad to say, they're doing away with the historic Main Street Electrical Parade. Disney fans know this is a big deal, simply because of how long it's been around. It first started in the '70s, with light-up floats including Alice In Wonderland, Dumbo's Circus, "It's a Small World," and Cinderella's Ball, according to Wdw News Today. If you've seen it in person or even just in pictures, you know it's the epic parade with floats covered in Christmas lights. Back before it began,...

George Clooney and Thomas Robinson in Tomorrowland (2015)
With a movie like 'Tomorrowland,' it's a good thing 'Space Mountain' got scrapped for 'Star Wars'
George Clooney and Thomas Robinson in Tomorrowland (2015)
It was four short years ago that Disney tightened their grip on our collective pop culture nostalgia. Having already secured Marvel Entertainment, the House of Mouse turned their all-seeing eye to Lucasfilm. On October 30, 2012 the acquisition announcement was made and the rest is now history. At the time fans were leery of the purchase, worried that Star Wars would become sanitized to bring in the all-mighty dollar of the preschool set. But while those fears have since been laid to rest with the success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the merger wasn’t without its hiccups and casualties. One of them being an untitled sci-fi project by Max Landis, who was riding high off on the buzz Chronicle back in early 2012. First reported by Variety in January of 2012, the space adventure was axed as being “too similar” once they had Star Wars in their pocket. SlashFilm brought this tidbit...

Rumor: Guardians Of The Galaxy Roller Coaster May Be Heading to Epcot
An attraction called Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission — Breakout! is replacing Disneyland's Tower of Terror ride, and if our comments section is any indication, a lot of fans aren't happy about it. But maybe they'll be more open to an additional Guardians-related ride that's rumored to be coming to Walt Disney World's Epcot Center.

Walt Disney World Today (via /Film) says that current Epcot attraction Ellen's Energy Adventure is going to be replaced with the first roller coaster in the park's history, a Guardians of the Galaxy-themed ride that "would feature both elaborate scenes and a long roller coaster portion." This is notable because it would be the first ride in the park's 35 year history to eschew the "edutainment" theme that they've cultivated there, and it would be only the sixth ride there to be categorized as "thrill."

Interestingly, there are apparently some major restrictions on the use...

Disney parks are doing a complete overhaul. Is nothing sacred anymore? Are they so over catering to our millennial obsession with nostalgia? We'll let you be the judge. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 has wrapped production and fans are wondering what James Gunn's next project might be. Some are even tempting him with DC Comics properties, and he's revealed he's very open to the idea. Creators don't need to interact with fans but when they do and they're great at it, it's a really nice treat. Gunn is one of those creators. Recently he spoke on the San Diego Comic-Con footage from his upcoming Marvel release and why they chose not to release it to the public. But in a recent open Q&A on his Facebook page, the director got into all sorts of things. He addressed recent box office news regarding Suicide Squad's record-breaking opening: It beat us first weekend. We almost made more money second weekend. And there is a very likely chance we'll make more money at the end of the...

Steve Guttenberg Defends Bill Clinton’s Love of the ‘Police Academy’ Movies
Police Academy (1984)
Among the many political leaders and ideals alluded to at the Democratic National Convention this week, one stood out as something of a non sequitur: the “Police Academy” movies. Former President Bill Clinton’s love of the comedy franchise came out during the DNC, which of course led to instant chatter on Twitter and even a callback in a later speech. Steve Guttenberg, one of the series’ stars, is pretty stoked: “We are all thrilled that both Bill and Chelsea let the secret out,” he wrote yesterday on CNN.

"Kurt's character is an incredibly important role... For me, he was the center - his character, even before he was around - was the center of what this movie was. We had a great camaraderie on the first film, but when Kurt and Pom started coming around,...

Newswire: Kurt Russell plays a planet with a penis in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
After debuting the new Doctor Strange trailer at its presentation at Comic-Con earlier this evening, Marvel Studios brought out Yondu and his team of Ravagers to introduce/make fun of the cast of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2. After being on the receiving end of a sick Movie 43 burn, director James Gunn promised a big announcement, which turned out to be mere confirmation of the rumor that the Tower of Terror at Disneyland is being replaced with a new Guardians Of The Galaxy ride:

That’s fun and all, but then the studio debuted a clip from the upcoming movie—which it has yet to put online—that reportedly both confirmed and confounded something we already knew about the film. Yes, Kurt Russell will be playing Star-Lord’s dad in Guardians Vol. 2. That was a given. Here’s the weird part. He’ll also be playing this ...
