My summary is contradictory, but then so is AGENT 69, a one-day wonder that wastes the talents of Sue Peters. It's available from two video companies but strictly for Peters completists.
I'm a huge fan of Sue's; for me she holds the iconic mantle that other porn mavens ascribe to her more prolific contemporary Suzanne Fields. Sue never got a big break, unfortunately.
The title AGENT 69 is not Sue but nickname for dumpy leading man Michael Downing, a sorry excuse for a porn hero. He's running a detective agency (cue the cheap set of a desk and a couch), with Sue haplessly trying to get him to hire her permanently. She puts out, but he doesn't appreciate it.
This is a very cheap junker, with real-time, continuous shooting photography, no editing hardly. The nonsensical storyline has Sue sent on a mission to get a secret notebook from villainess Ethel. She pretends to be selling girl scout cookies as her cover -sounds more like a stag loop than a real movie.
Another segment has Sue visiting a loudmouth who keeps ad libbing anti-war pronouncements, pretty relevant given the film's 1970 vintage, but as half-baked as they come. She responds with the "make love, not war" spiel and we see that AGENT 69 is not the showcase for Sue's acting talents (if any). Instead we see her lanky frame, standout nipples, and unique talent for sexual stimulation -turning the act of fidgeting and wrapping her legs around a lucky co-star into pure art.
Film's "find the notebooks" theme involving 69's client list and the secret other notebook is idiotic, but Sue's sex scenes are hot. A clumsy "happy" ending is for the birds.
Casting of the untalented and unappealing Michael Downing guy sank this project like a stone. A similar cast from AGENT 69, with Marsha Jordan added, appear in two softcore films THE RANCH HAND and LOVE FROM Paris, a Something Weird "softies" double bill that plays like all-sex hardcore, EXCEPT no penetration allowed.
