Don't think this is a movie about "punks", not even a violent movie, this is totally "kid's stuff", but for not very bright kids. The movie is about a bunch of kids (as usual, one is a nerd, one is a fat boy, one is a thief, one is the leader, and the other, a girl, so we have "all kinds") who join to prevent the death of the father of the leader, a scientist developing a "muscular enhancer", so the kids turn out to be : a) smart enough to understand a biological-scientifical experiment and its consequences, b) with the skills to break in to a lab with the highest-technology security, c) with the knowledge and skills to use computers as real hackers, among a lot of other things.

So, the result is a boring movie, with bad kid actors, no angel, no fun, nothing else to say. Avoid it, even if you want a child's movie, or if you thought this would be sort of "KIDS" or anything a bit heavier, cause of the title PUNKS (as I thought).

Crow Research And Production is the name of a company that has developed a device that stimulates the nervous system and muscles. While the creator of this device lives in the delusion that it will bring a revolution in the treatment of people in wheelchairs, his company actually plans to sell it on the black market for the purpose of creating super-soldiers. But his son and his son's friends from primary school are there to expose the villains and steal the device in order to protect nerds from school bullies.

Linear, naive, and even stupid script, Nickelodeon level of acting and production ... Honestly, it is crap, a nuance above the level of "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" from the nineties. And again, I have to be honest, I had a good time and, as this is a film for children, I think it is more important than objective qualities. Plus Jessica Alba in her sweet sixteen ...

Creative movie enjoyable for all ages!
MrNobody9710 September 1999
For anyone who has ever seen "The Secret World of Alex Mack" on Nickelodeon, Louan Gideon played the evil CEO of a chemical plant. She's back, and she's playing 2nd-in-command of a corrupt technological research lab. John Nielsen, also from the above show, returns. The movie stars Henry Winkler as the notorious Mr. Crow, who has designed a machine which enhances the immune system and gives its wearer incredible strength. Enter Drew (Tim Redwine), whose father is a scientist at CROW Research.

Drew's father believes that the machine is to help people overcome their physical disabilities, but Mr. Crow actually intends to sell it to foreign nations as a machine for the "ultimate soldier." As well, the machine fries anyone's immune system if worn for more than 20 minutes! Well, Mr. Crow and his assistant Ms. Grimes don't care, and they intend to have Drew's dad wear it -- but he has a heart disease, and it would kill him in 5 minutes flat.

Needless to say, Drew bands together with some less-than-popular friends, intention being to break into CROW and steal the augmentor. Crow wants them destroyed at any cost, though . . . even with all their wits, can the P.U.N.K.S. (their group name) stop the diabolical plot?

One of the Worst Film I Have Ever Seen...
MovieAddict201611 December 2002
What do you get when you mix Rambo, James Bond and pre-teens? "P.U.N.K.S.": one of the worst films I have ever seen.

Unlike some films, "P.U.N.K.S." isn't even "So bad it's good." It's just plain awful. Despite Randy Quaid, this film still sinks to the depths.

Take one scene for example: these kids manage to get into this "top secret" building by taking a young Jessica Alba, who went on to star in TV's "Dark Angel," (with this film, I'm surprised she got a role in a commercial) pushing a ball in her shirt and making the guards in the building think she's pregnant. A 12 year old. Right. Anyway, she stands outside the building at midnight, going "Oh, my, my baby!" And of course, the guards, being the "stupid adults" they are, rush out to her with dumb looks on their faces, as these other kids enter the building and start shooting rubber darts at "hi-tech" cameras mounted on walls. We see a POV from the camera -- the kids leap in front of the cameras like an action star, and shoot the darts with nerf guns. Good Lord Almighty!

There are many things like this, including a scene at a golf course where these "Men in Black" FBI guys start chasing these kids, who are dressed in leather shirts and pants. And of course, they have sunglasses, too. So the kids manage to outsmart these FBI agents -- at a golf course -- by doing insane things that would make a two year old blush.

Don't see "P.U.N.K.S." I strongly urge you stay clear of it. It isn't even funny. 1/5 stars-

John Ulmer

A Pro-Steroids Film for the Whole Family
kingpigeon2 August 2005
Despite being made sometime in the late 1990's, P.U.N.K.S. looks and feels at least ten years older (a curious music video montage featuring the kids in "Risky Business" Ray Bans causing mayhem on a miniature golf course is straight out of the '80s; a curiouser ZZ Top tribute was likely lost on P.U.N.K.S.'s intended audience). The cinematography is muddy and the sound is washed-out, giving it that undesirable Saturday afternoon UPN quality. In one scene it's painfully obvious that the filmmakers couldn't afford the rights to the Katrina and the Waves song "Walking on Sunshine," so they cobbled their own variation together instead.

Typically, kids movies are allowed to get away with more because, hey, kids are stupid! This film is no exception. The adult characters (both good guys and bad) are all buffoons, a chain of various impossibilities move the plot along, and the laws of physics need not apply.

But most troubling of all is the film's underlying message: the electronic muscular enhancer device that the kids steal and utilize is, for all intents and purposes, a steroid. However, the morality of using using such a device (to defeat various antagonists) is never questioned in any way, making it a sort of pro-performance-enhancing drugs movie. How odd.

And before I lose this thought: The idea of using stun guns repeatedly on adults for laughs is pretty disturbing.

Hebephiles will enjoy seeing a young Jessica Alba in various outfits. But even I--I mean, they will be bored by the majority of this overlong film, which should have ended twenty minutes before it actually does.

This would have benefited from a DVD commentary track of some sort wherein the makers explained their intentions--or freely and unashamedly admitted that this was just "product." Perhaps such commentary could have been provided by a gaffer or a key grip.

is it a masterpiece no, but is it fun yes

If you love mid to late 90's goofy teen movies like I did back then and still do, then you will like it. The jokes are pretty good the story is pretty decent, are there some unrealistic things in it yeah, , but that makes it fun.

A good kid movie; I liked it :)
starynight4ever19 February 2001
First and foremost, if any adults see this movie they will criticize it. But it's not for them, it's was made for kids, and kids alone. I personally thought that it was a really good movie, with an average over exaggerated plot (but it was good!), and a really great cast! I do recommend this movie, mostly to kids 12 and under, though, because of it's wide choice in characters, and the usual good guy, bad guy thing it's got going on. Take my word for it, it's a very fun movie :)

Alot better than i expected

When i saw the trailer for this movie i thought it looked like such a stupid film. But after seeing it i was totally suprised by the result. It may not make much sense but it was very enjoyable just like movies should be. I mean it had pretty bad acting and a pretty bad story but atleast you don't leave the movie thinking that you just wasted two hours of your life. So if you want to see a funny enjoyable movie, with the young but still hott jessica alba, johnny tsunami, and that kid from the big green, then here's a good one for you. This movie is not bad and it will suprise you if you think it is. And don't expect to be confused at any point in the movie...

Good Good Good

I liked it! Loved it! It's a great movie about teammwork and friendship. The P.U.N.K.S. is about five kids, leader Drew, overweight Lanny, con artist Johnny, nerd Miles, and tomboy Samantha. The P.U.N.K.S. which isn't a gang or anything P.U.N.K.S. stands for to Protect the Underdog with Nerve, Knowledge, and Strength. PUNKS, get it? Anyways, Drew's father works for CRAP Crow Resources And Protection. HIs father (Randy Quaid) is making an Augmentor, it powers up the nervous system to make one strong. Drew is always let down by his father by broken promises, so for his birthday he invites Drew and Miles to the company to hang out. Miles somewhat accidentally gets into the files, but cant get a password. That's where Johnny comes in. They use Drew's garage where his father use to work for CRAP as there headquarters, you can get into the files and everything. They get into the files and find out that Crow's assisstant has changed the Augmentor, and if u keep it on you for 20 minutes 9 out of 10 chances it will fry your whole nervous, and if you have a heart condition, which Drew's father has, it could kill you in 5. So they decide to steal the Augmentor, but CRAP has mega security. That's where Johnny's cousin Samantha comes in. She is the expert breaking and entering person. They steal it successfully BUT Crow has a double. I'm not going to tell the whole movie, rent it and watch. I give P.U.N.K.S. 8.5/10!

Horrible, but somehow i loved it
Chester-248 May 2002
This movie was so stupid but so fun. We couldn't stop laughing at the theme song "We are the Punks". That fat kid from the Sandlot should of been Golden Globe nominated. When he got that super strength in the bar it was so cool. The Fanz gives an OK performance, but i think he might of been miscast. Randy Quaid does his normal good job. Kids will love this movie. IT teaches kids about friendship, and how to ride a bike on the freeway. Look for Jessica Alba before she made it big. Overall B-.

G.R.E.A.T. !
Spanner-24 February 1999
When I saw the box for this film at Blockbuster, I knew it was a cool film for kids, not about gangs or street punks. I liked the way the kids formed their club and took on the bad dude (Henry Winkler). It was very funny and the girl who played Samantha was a babe. The action scenes were as good as the funny stuff. I liked seeing kids from some of my other favorite films in it. I rented it again to show my friends and they liked it too. You should get it.

Okay, I got to say, I did love this movie. I know that it's been criticized but I liked it alot. I thought that Brandon Baker was *ADORABLE* in it and Jessica Alba has become one of my current favorite actresses and she's good in my book along with Kristen Kruek. But it's a good kids movie, something that my little brothers might enjoy, so it has my approval

Even Better Than I Expected
sroby98927 October 2002
After watching the hit Disney Movie Brink my expectations where pretty high, but P.U.N.K.S. came threw in big strides. Now my favorite character wasn't in the movie very much. I have tried to imitate his life as much as possible. He is the little actor who beat out the main character for president. I believe he can be seen on Malcolm in the Middle and the newest series of All That. This movie is great for parties and I highly recommended this. At first we where all against it but once we watched we laughed and cried.

Quite Okay
Natalia Adriana8 January 1999
Maybe the title sound like this is a violence movie. But actually it's not.It is suitable for kids.P.U.N.K.S, if you really watch the movie and hear carefully, you'll know what it means. It doesn't sound like the real "PUNK" word.It means that they want to stop the strong picking up the weaks. And it's not like other movies, where fat kids are always the troublemaker. In this movie, lenny is only concerned about the food he ate(protein and fibre). Not like other movies where not only a fat kid will be the troublemaker, they also act stupid and do all those embarrassing stuff. Same to the computer genius,a girl who is an expert in stealing cars(also unlocking doors) with her cousin.I think this is a cool movie except for the title maybe.
