I give it a 9 because I think the View needs to avoid segments such as The Best Bathing Suit or How to Entertain Children. Honestly, if they did Hot Topics for a full hour, I (and my husband) would watch a lot more. In the beginning, I hated this show. Meredith Viera was a pompous moderator and I admit that when she attacked teachers and schools the first time I watched, I vowed to never watch again. (for the record, William Hurt was the guest and he refused to bash schools). Anyway, I started watching when a work schedule changed and really enjoyed the Meredith/Star/Joy/Elisabeth combo. --still didn't like Meredith, but was able to watch her more --could not stand Star, however, appreciated her legal insights on issues that got the ladies in a tizzy --loved Joy, still do (okay, I hate her lame jokes, but no one's perfect!) --Elisabeth is a closed minded, naive, judgmental, vapid twit, but I enjoyed the controversy to brought to the show
Then when Meredith and Star left and Rosie came on board, I didn't think the show could survive. Boy, I sure enjoyed watching the friendship develop between Elisabeth and Rosie. It was wonderful to watch Elisabeth realize that gays are real people that have real feelings. It was funny watching Elisabeth stand up for gay relationships despite her deep faith. I thought Rosie and Joy would not get along due to being battling comedians, but they, too, were fun to watch. Rosie made me cringe, a lot, but I loved the dynamic she brought to the show and I could get my husband to watch without whining through the whole thing. What happens next? Now they need two new hosts. Of course they will get a woman of color and I can't say I am impressed with any of the "regular" guests they've had so far. I would LOVE watching Roseanne Barr, but I don't think she would put up with it for too long. Whoopi works for me, but again, she is too savvy to sign a contract. I wish Barbara all the luck in finding a new mix. The ratings will never again be so good and I hope ABC doesn't go and change it too much in desperation. It is a different type of talk show. It isn't perfect, but I would be sorely disappointed if it went off the air.

So many of the comments here are negative, yet despite all the controversy, the show continues to be a rating winner. I suspect that the Right have organized a bunch of negative reviews here to attack what is essentially a good hour's worth of television.
The View has ALWAYS been controversial from the beginning. Through all the personnel changes, the show continues to push buttons.
Since Star Jones and Meredith Vierra left and Rosie O'Donnell has come on board, the show is hardly more controversial. I happen to agree with many of Rosie's views, but my only objection is sometimes her style is too abrupt. But, then, I think Elizabeth Hasselback is way too abrupt and snotty too. And I usually don't agree with her opinions.
Bottom line, it's a brisk show that in between all the hype and drama, still remains ones of the best forums for current events opinions and information.
If people are put off by all the controversy then Barbara Walters has succeeded in her mission......
So, read the other opinions here with a grain of salt and watch the show for yourself.

I really enjoy and am educated by The View. The political discussions are enlightening and give a good representation of women's views pro and con with a softer edge than the news networks. I like the contemporary-ness of the discussions as well. The panel consists of women who are experienced in law, government and entertainment. Their diversity keeps the conversation interesting. AND I admire Whoopi a lot! The show has evolved and only gotten better as some of the dead weight/ panel members are gone. I agree with other reviews - some of the panelists did little to intelligently contribute to the conversations. Again, the contemporary and diverse discussions keep me tuning in.
I have never been a fan of Whoopie Goldberg although I once held high respect for her but the unthought out comments she made about the Holocaust makes me see her for what she really is, a hypocrite and inconsiderate opinonated mouthpiece. As old as she is and coming from a race of people, my people too, whose ancestors suffered atrociously from the stronghold of racism, and still feels the pinch of it, you would think she would have more compassion and better sense than to make such a comment. How easily some people forget where they derived from and play down others morbid events. She should be fired! If that had been a Caucasian spoke such things about slavery she would have went through the roof and the commentator would have been lead off the set and fired on the spot. You know it has dawned on me that's why we can't really enjoy the land of the free and home of the brave , there's too much inequity, inequality and other horrible things that makes this Country sway away from justice and accountability, for all!!! To the Jewish community please know this only fools speak with unbridled tongues that wags at will and in any direction having noone to restrain it please don't be offended by a fool!

Infighting is probably not the correct word. I love the View and watch it everyday. I love all of the ladies opinions and how they interact with each other, EXCEPT, Sunny and Alyssa!! Lately, it's gotten to the point that I don't get anything out of what either of these two say because they are regularly interrupting each other and talking over each other. And in just the last couple of week, it is quite obvious that they are unhappy with each other. I do blame Alyssa mostly. I have heard Sunny say, on a number of occasions, "can I please finish what I am trying to say?", while Alyssa has interrupted and is talking over her. They need to be separated for a while. I might have to take a break from the show for awhile as this is really hard to try to listen to. Thanks for allowing my input.
