Much has been said about Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav's intention to replace current Warner Bros. Pictures heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, though the shock success of A Minecraft Movie may have bought the executives some time.
Regardless, Deadline recently spoke to them about the studio's future plans, including a Beetlejuice Beetlejuice sequel and new takes on The Matrix, Practical Magic, Gremlins, Goonies, and more. The DC brand also came up (despite DC Studios being separate from Warner Bros.), and De Luca shared high praise for James Gunn's Superman.
"I love Superman. I think James Gunn has crushed it," he said. "It’s got tons of his trademark heart and humor and the action is jaw dropping. It’s the Superman I grew up with, so I get choked up when I watch it. I think it’s so epic and visually arresting and emotional.

Exclusive: Warner Bros has just set plans to revamp The Bodyguard, the 1992 romantic drama thriller that teamed superstars Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston. The studio, which released the original, has set Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour director Sam Wrench to helm and script by Juror No. 2 writer Jonathan A. Abrams, Deadline has learned.
The news was revealed Friday in an interview with Warner Bros’ co-film bosses Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy. No casting has been set, but after the first film’s star duo and box office success (it made $411 million worldwide box office and landed a pair of Oscar nominations) it certainly will be a casting process to watch. Beyond Swift, there are many singers who could play the singing star that this should be a magnet for an exciting cast.

Exclusive: If you focus on snarky and largely unsubstantiated reports, you might figure Warner Bros Pictures co-chairman/CEOs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy would spend this weekend boxing up their belongings. Using a couple flops and risky upcoming films as fodder, several reports with scant backup say their Warner Bros Discovery boss David Zaslav is scouring for replacement candidates (which he denies in a tepid manner). Despite the rough press, De Luca and Abdy will actually spend this weekend same as their counterparts at other studios do: trying to keep an eye on kids while they read scripts, watch dailies and dream up slates for 2026 and beyond.

Talk about a star-packed Oscar Week.
The days and nights leading up to Hollywood’s biggest event of the year began this time around with the NAACP Image Awards and SAG Awards on Feb. 23. Just a couple of nights later, most of the nominees of the 97th Academy Awards gathered at the Academy Museum for the annual class picture. While most walked the arrivals carpet solo, Cynthia Erivo, Demi Moore and Zoe Saldaña hugged and posed together for photographers. (The class photo is usually taken during the Nominees Luncheon but the afternoon soiree was canceled due to the Southern California wildfires.)
At the same time, across town, Nicole Kidman and Olivia Munn were among the honorees at Time’s Women of the Year dinner at the West Hollywood Edition hotel.

Exclusive: Monarch Media has secured the rights to A Walk to Remember, the seminal early aughts coming-of-age romance from Nicholas Sparks, with plans to develop a reboot alongside the original film’s producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry.
An enduringly popular bestseller published in 1999, A Walk to Remember follows a rebellious high school senior who falls for a quiet, faith-driven girl after being forced to participate in a school play, discovering the transformative power of love, forgiveness and the beauty of living each day with purpose.
Famously, Shane West and Mandy Moore broke out with their turns in the original 2002 film adaptation from Warner Bros. While the Adam Shankman film made less than $48 million in theaters, it remains one of the most popular titles in the modern rom-com canon to this day.

Practical Magic 2 is in the works at Warner Bros. Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock will reprise their roles from the original 1998 movie for the live-action follow-up.
Speaking with Variety at Time's Women of the Year event in Los Angeles, Kidman was careful not to reveal too much about the highly-anticipated sequel, saying only that development on Practical Magic 2 was "movie ahead rapidly." After Variety pushed for more information, such as if Kidman had seen a script, the actor playfully remarked, "I'm not answering anymore. You can ask Sandy [Bullock]." Kidman then confirmed that "we're not doing it yet," meaning that Practical Magic 2 hasn't started production, as it "needs a little magic" still before filming can begin.

Slowly but surely fans are getting more information about the highly anticipatedPractical Magic sequel. This week during the Time's Women of the Year event in Los Angeles, one half of the Owens sisters revealed some coy answers to Variety about the timeline of the sequel. Nicole Kidman, who plays Gillian Owens, said that the sequel is "moving ahead rapidly" but refused to quantify it anymore by saying "I'm not answering anymore." Instead, Kidman put the onus on her Practical Magic co-star Sandra Bullock, who plays Sally Owens. "You can ask Sandy." She repeats "ask Sandy" again and again when prodded with questions. "My beautiful Sandy," apparently is the gatekeeper of the Practical Magic 2 details. Kidman concludes that the sequel "just needs a little magic," to make sure it happens.

Nicole Kidman is practicing what she preaches.
During a recent interview for Time magazine, the Oscar winner opened up about surpassing her 2017 goal of working with a woman director every 18 months since the height of the #MeToo movement. Over the past eight years, she’s collaborated with at least 19 female filmmakers on movies and TV shows.
Kidman explained that often, women directors face undue pressure to “be perfect” with their debut projects. However, the Big Little Lies star said, “It can be changed, but it can only be changed by actually being in the films of women.”
The actress is on a mission to use her immense star power to be a force for change in Hollywood. Most recently, she teamed up with Babygirl director Halina Reijn in their 2024 erotic thriller. Reijn previously told The Hollywood Reporter for Kidman’s December cover story, “She is one of the few people...

Nicole Kidman made a vow in 2017 to work with a woman director every 18 months. To say she has made good on that promise would be an understatement. The Oscar winner has teamed up with a women director either as a producer or as an actor 19 times over the last eight years, with more female-directed projects already in the pipeline.
Speaking in a new interview with Time magazine, Kidman explained that one of her reasons behind making the vow is a double standard that women directors face. These filmmakers are under pressure to “be perfect” when their movies get funded and there’s no room for error. Whereas male directors are more likely to get a chance to rebound, female directors are knocked down if they don’t deliver a perfect movie.

Sofia Carson is becoming a Netflix star. After being brilliant in 2024's thriller, Carry-On, she will now turn lead in a new Netflix movie called The Life List. The story revolves around a woman who is set on a journey by her mother to re-access her life. The twist is that Carson's character (Alex Rose) is given a new DVD each time she goes about completing tasks on her bucket list.
Mind you, at least some of the bucket list was created when Alex was a child, so some of what she has to do might be something she would never do as an adult. The list includes participating in an open mic night, playing basketball in a one-on-one game, and teaching at a women's shelter. The truth is that the film is not a series of episodes of Alex working her way down the list.

Miss Congeniality, starring Sandra Bullock, Michael Caine, and Benjamin Bratt, remains one of Bullock's best performances. As Gracie Hart, Bullock is an FBI agent transformed into a beauty pageant contestant — despite her abhorrence of the events. It was confirmed last year that Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are in talks to reprise their roles for a sequel to the 1998 fantasy Practical Magic. Akiva Goldsman will return to write the script. Alice Hoffman, who wrote the original novel in 1995, also published a sequel called The Book Of Magic in 2021.

Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman play witch sisters Sally and Gillian Owens, whose family has been plagued for generations by a curse that kills any man they fall in love with. They have to use their magic to destroy the spirit of Gillian’s abusive boyfriend.
The film also starred Goran Visnjic, Stockard Channing, Dianne Wiest and Aidan Quinn.

Deadline reports that Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy-winning director Susanne Bier has been tapped to direct the sequel to the beloved 1998 witchy rom-com Practical Magic. While the deal with Warner Bros., the studio behind the film, isn't quite sealed yet, it is a promising update on the highly anticipated reunion of Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

Nicole Kidman recently shared with The Guardian that she would love to revisit her role as Grace in The Others. This came up during a conversation with her Big Little Lies co-star Reese Witherspoon, who asked which role Kidman would want to explore further.
Kidman revealed that she has a strong connection to Grace, noting how the film is often overlooked despite her deep love for the character.
The Others is a psychological horror from 2001, where Kidman plays Grace, a mother living in a dark, eerie estate with her two children who suffer from photosensitivity. Nikki Glaser isn’t a comedian known for impressions, but she’d sure like to imitate Nicole Kidman.
The comedian said while at The Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Gala that Kidman’s film and television career is aspirational. Hell, even her commercials are “iconic,” and Glaser pointed out that even rabid “Wicked” fans had to pay their respects to Kidman’s commanding screen presence pre-film.
“She’s just insane. She’s aging backwards,” Glaser, who will be the host of the 2025 Golden Globes during Kidman’s buzzy awards year, said. “Even the AMC moment, that has become this iconic meme moment. The other day, when I went to go see ‘Wicked,’ people applauded after the AMC thing.”
Glaser, who cited “Eyes Wide Shut” and “Practical Magic” among her favorite Kidman films, continued: “She’s just someone that we’ve watched for so long and she’s just timeless.

Nicole Kidman is an icon in the world of Hollywood for a reason. Bringing a layer of mystery to her roles while simultaneously seeming like the most welcoming person in any cast, the actress is almost paradoxical with her acting. From recent works like Babygirl to older classic projects like Moulin Rouge, she is ingrained into the very fabric of the film industry.

Nicole Kidman stars in an upcoming erotic thriller from the director of 2022’s Bodies Bodies Bodies. Here’s the trailer for Babygirl:

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Nicole Kidman was asked if there were any directors she'd love to work with that she hadn't worked with already. The actress listed several names, including Paul Thomas Anderson, Spike Jonze, and Kathryn Bigelow, but one particular name mentioned by Kidman may have come with a little bit of shade.
Ive always said I want to work with [Martin] Scorsese, if he does a film with women.
This is likely in reference to Scorsese's penchant for making films mostly about (and even arguably for) men, a criticism of his work that made headlines in 2019 when the director stated he didn't "have time anymore" to write for women.
Scorsese and his fans point to several titles in the filmmaker's large body of work that feature strong roles for women, namely Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, one of only a few titles to feature a woman as the protagonist.

Practical Magic is finally getting a sequel, and theres an important lesson it has to learn from one of Hocus Pocus 2s biggest mistakes. As the trends of legacy sequels and revivals gain force, more and more franchises and movies join, and among the latest ones is Practical Magic. Based on the book of the same name by Alice Hoffman and directed by Griffin Dunne, Practical Magic takes viewers to a small Massachusetts town to meet the Owens family, who, due to their ancestor, witch Maria Owens, carry a curse: any man who an Owens woman loves will die.
When the curse catches up with Sally (Sandra Bullock) and becomes a widow and single mother, she moves back with her aunts Jet (Dianne Wiest) and Frances (Stockard Channing). Some time later, Sally joins forces with her sister Gillian (Nicole Kidman) to get rid of her toxic boyfriend, but after killing him in self-defense,...

The other is an increasingly silly, yet still thrilling cat-and-mouse game that changes the protagonist from Josh Hartnett's killer to Saleka Shyamalan's world-famous pop star, Lady Raven.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Practical Magic.
When Practical Magic first hit theaters on October 16, 1998, it received mixed reviews and didnt break even on its budget, but over the years, it developed a cult following that helped it become known as one of the best witch movies. Beyond the interesting story about a family curse, magic, and romance, part of what keeps people returning to Practical Magic is its star cast which includes Sandra Bullock as Sally Owens and Nicole Kidman as Gillian Owens. At its core, Practical Magic is about sisterhood, with Bullock and Kidman developing great chemistry.
Unfortunately, it was the only time the two stars shared the big screen, which made it even more special.
