Kinda cute but only for Deborah Gibson Fans

This is a cute movie but really only for Deborah Gibson fans. Deborah is pretty good in this movie but the plot is very weak, and at times kind of stupid, and most of the acting is pretty bad. If you like Deborah Gibson you might want to check her out in some other movie.

This is downright painful

Warning: Spoilers
I willingly admit to being one of the biggest fans of Deborah (formerly Debbie)Gibson in the world. I also like Dom Deluise very much. I just wish both of them had passed on this alleged comedy.

The movie centers around the wedding reception of a badly mismatched couple and their friends and families. Unfortunately there isn't a single likable character in the film--including Deborah herself. How this film can describe itself as a comedy I have no clue. There isn't so much as a chuckle in the whole affair and the only thing worthy of applause is when this seemingly endless drudgery finally reaches its conclusion.

Ms. Gibson has made a couple of feature films which are very worthwhile, she is a rising light in the world of legitimate theater and listening to her sing is like listening to an angel. But even near perfection can slip up sometimes. Making this motion picture qualifies as a slip into a bottomless chasm. Avoid it like the plague!

Many laugh out loud moments.

"My Ex-Girlfriend's Wedding Reception" is a very, very funny film with many "laugh out loud" moments. It has a "slice of life" aspect in the way it was shot. Fellini-esque at moments, it follows the love triangle between the Bride, Groom, Maid of Honor and the leader of the band, who is the ex-boyfriend of the bride. The entire picture takes place at one reception and gives you a peak into the lives of the Jewish-Italian families and their guests. You get a feeling you know all these people or have bumped into them before. Great inside humor for musicians and those who ever worked in the "wedding business." I particularly thought the character of "Vic", the single guy at the bar, who tries to pick up every girl he meets was hilarious. Deborah Gibson does a good job and is scarily convincing as a Jewish American Princess in her big screen debut. You'll love the sense of humor in this little film regardless of your heritage. It's too bad it hasn't gotten a wider release, as it certainly deserves it. I'd see it, before you get married.

Wonderful! Hilarious!

I was a little puzzled by this movie initially; I had no problem understanding what was going on, but it took me a good 20-30 minutes to really grasp it. Grasp the comedy, that is. The humor here, in this documentary-style picture, is subtle to some, apparently non-existent to some reviewers, but ended up to me to be laugh-out-loud funny. I know it sounds weird to say "I love Jewish people," or "...Italian people," but most of the humor here involves stereotypical humor of both, and I just loved it. But please don't misunderstand me: I have loved many Jewish and Italian folks in my life, and I loved said humor in a genuinely warm-hearted way. Anyway, I rented this film, mailed it back yesterday, but the more I think about it and talk to people about it, the more I wish I still had it and could show it to certain friends and relatives. Not that it was perfect (see my rating). The scene with the 3 girls who attempted to sing "Angel in the Morning" was pretty hard to sit through, and the members of the "band" continuously putting down Jazz music irritated me. But all in all, I'm going now to a website where I can purchase this hilarious film!
