Attorney General William Barr said that Donald Trump’s tweets about Justice Department criminal cases “make it impossible for me to do my job,” a rare criticism of the president coming from a sitting cabinet secretary.
“I think it’s time to stop tweeting about Department of Justice criminal cases,” Barr told Pierre Thomas, ABC News’ chief justice correspondent.
ABC News and Thomas, landed the first sitdown interview with Barr since the furor over the Justice Department decision to reverse itself on a sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone, the former Trump associate who was convicted on seven counts of witness tampering and lying to investigators last year.
The network and its streaming channel, ABC News Live, aired a special report on the interview at 4 p.m. Et. More of the interview will air on Thursday on World News Tonight With David Muir and then on ABC News Live.

It’s safe to say Curb Your Enthusiasm‘s Larry David has a… unique perspective on social politics. On Sunday’s episode, he can’t help himself as he fights for his favorite pastry, becomes smitten over artificial fruit and is annoyed by garbage cans. Leave it to Larry.
At the top, Larry visits a former New York City pastry chef because he’s scouting out scones for his coffee shop. Upon his first bite of the man’s delicious work, Larry gives it a “Prettaaay, prettaaay good!” review.

As expected, James Mangold’s ’60s racing epic “Ford v Ferrari,” animated feature “Toy Story 4,” and documentary “Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound” took top honors at the 56th Cinema Audio Society Awards recognizing outstanding sound mixing.
As an Oscar bellwether, though, six of the past 10 Cas winners have gone on to win the sound mixing Oscar, which bodes well for “Ford v Ferrari.” However, Oscar-nominated “1917,” Sam Mendes’ continuous-shot, World War I extravaganza, was not in contention at the Cas Awards, which makes the race very competitive.
“We threw out the production sound,” said Dave Giammarco, the “Ford v Ferrari” re-recording mixer. “But when we got the real GT40, it helped inform the cut because it has its own signature [sound], and you want to wind it out and feel the whole length of it. Sometimes they would cut the shot to match the engine whine. And sometimes you...

Sam Mendes’ World War I drama “1917” got a boost in its bid to win the Best Picture Oscar when it took home the top prize at the 31st annual Producers Guild Awards Saturday night. The winner of the PGA Awards’ top prize, the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, has historically been a strong indicator of which film will go on to win the Best Picture Oscar. Since 1989, the PGA winner has matched up with the top Oscar 21 out of 30 times.
Last year, Peter Farrelly’s controversial racial drama “Green Book” took the top PGA trophy before going on to win the Best Picture Oscar. This year “1917” bested the other eight films competing for the top Oscar at the PGAs, as well as a tenth film, Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” — which settled for an Original Screenplay Oscar slot.

“For a long time people tried to figure out ‘What is Plan B?’” says Plan B principal Dede Gardner, who along with fellow executives Jeremy Kleiner and Brad Pitt will receive the David O. Selznick Award at the 31st annual Producers Guild Awards on Jan. 18. “I remember Brad came to us the year that we released ‘12 Years a Slave’ and ‘World War Z’ with a grin on his face: ‘That’s Plan B.’ Truthfully, it’s narratively driven. We are real lovers of stories, and that’s been the singular guidepost since the very beginning.”
Those films, along with a prestigious, awards and nomination-heavy output including “Selma,” “The Big Short,” “Moonlight,” “Vice” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” form the sort of enviable body of work over the course of Plan B’s two decades — one Kleiner says is informed by the fluid Pitt-influenced development culture “of trying to stay present tense and be inspired,...

During today’s HBO TCA panel for The Plot Against America, actress Zoe Kazan gave an emotional response when asked about her grandfather Elia Kazan and his actions during the McCarthy era, when the two-time Oscar winning filmmaker named former colleagues before the House Un-American Activities Committee.
The Plot Against America imagines an alternate American history, told through the eyes of a working-class Jewish family in New Jersey, as they watch the political rise of aviator-hero and xenophobic populist Charles Lindbergh, who becomes president and turns the nation toward fascism.
The David Simon series based on the Philip Roth novel deals with a lot of topics occurring in American and Europe today, specifically the rise of nationalism and xenophobia.
“Do you want to be more specific?” Kazan initially responded to the reporter today.
“Your grandfather, I don’t want to bring up hard times for you, I’m sorry,” responded the journalist.

Midway through our chat, Andrei Konchalovsky squints at his coffee and takes a brief pause. We’re in the restaurant of a cozy boutique hotel in Tallinn, Estonia. The restaurant is in the hotel’s basement floor; the 14th-century walls give the room a cave-like feeling, and a log fire sizzles behind our backs. Aside from us, the place is empty. Konchalovsky arrived in Tallinn to pick up a lifetime achievement at the 23rd Black Nights Film Festival (PÖFF), and to present his latest directorial effort, Sin, a portrait of Renaissance master Michelangelo Buonarroti, the sculptor, painter, architect, and poet behind such masterpieces as La Pietà, David, and the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel. Sin came out three years after Paradise, Konchalovsky’s 2016 Holocaust drama, which earned the Russian a Silver Lion for best directing at the 73rd Venice Film Festival.

Superstar Rajnikanth is back once again to bring his every man action thriller, mixed with social story in Petta. A cast of well-known south and north stars combine to bring their vibrant acting skills to a film that seems to be described by the opening line of the trailer, “Twenty men were sent, he thrashed them all.” This is nothing new from Rajnikanth or for the stars he has brought with him in this film. However, the real twist in this film is its album, for which he has brought the wunderkind Anirudh Ravichander.
The name will be familiar to Bollywood audiences from the unforgettable “Why this Kolaveri Di?”, a mixture of humour and sadness that had people around the world making endless versions for social media. Keep in mind Anirudh is another in the line of great music directors the south seems to produce with regularity and apart from...
