Sex & Nudity

  • Edited version contains no detail during sex scenes and makes them a lot briefer than the original cuts.
  • There are scenes of nudity and sexual situations throughout the show.
  • There are references to rape and pedophilia, but no depictions of such crimes.
  • In some episodes strippers and sex workers are shown topless wearing only thongs and/or pasties.
  • Sometimes characters make crude sexual references and/or indecent gestures.
  • There are some brief sex scenes which include nudity, mainly breasts.

Violence & Gore

  • A man is accidentally burned to death, it's offscreen, but the charred remains are seen
  • A man is shot in the back from behind, a lot of blood sprays on to two men in front of him.
  • When ever Spawn is shot or injured, green blood known as necroplasm would sometimes ooze out.
  • Although all the violence is comic book based action violence, the results are usually bloody and gory.
  • Some graphic injuries portray gunshot wounds, broken bones, and even include depictions of dismemberment.

Profanity

  • The TV-14/PG-13 versions edit out the stronger profanity such as 'fuck', 'cocksucker' and 'cunt'.
  • Mild profanities like "bastard", "goddamn","Son of a bitch", "hell", and "asshole" are commonly said.
  • Casual use of profanity is littered throughout the program.
  • The most commonly heard profanities in the series are "fuck" and "shit", but occasionally crasser language such as "cocksucker" and "cunt" are said.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Frequently smoking and drinking are depicted, but also there are references to hard narcotics.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • There are many dark and emotional moments in the show.
  • This is not at all for children. It contains strong disturbing content including bloody violence and grisly images, aberrant behavior, strong language, sensuality, nudity, and drug use.
  • The series has some elements of a horror, and the violence can be hard to watch at times. A homeless man has his arm torn off.
  • Images of demons and hell are frequent, given Spawn himself is trapped being a hell spawn. This can be frightening for some viewers.
  • Outside of the obvious supernatural themes, real-world horrors such as pedophilia and child murder have been present in some episodes.
