The original screenplay was written "on spec" in 1987 and went through various hands and studios who attempted to produce it. In 1991, Rutger Hauer was attached to direct and star in it for producer Michael Jaffe of Spectacor Entertainment.
Writer Sergio Altieri later wrote a series of three novels called "Sniper" (published in Italy) based on his 'Silent Trigger' script and character.
Characters name were purposely dropped during production, increasing the abstract existentialist aspect of the film: it doesn't matter who they are, who their targets are or who they work for.
Theatrically released notably in Japan, Italy, Thailand, Poland, South Korea, Egypt, Lebanon, Pakistan and more (South Africa and others possibly).
Second of a two-picture deal Lundgren made with the producers. The first film was "The Shooter" aka "Hidden Assassin".
