Bob Goody: Bill Maddox

Quotes

  • [at the Shadow Play Bar, a man with a large ear trumpet approaches Lev Arris]

Bill Maddox : [loud voice]  Ser... Arris, isn't it?

Lev Arris : Yeah, thanks for telling the whole world.

Bill Maddox : Word has it you do odd space jobs here and there.

Lev Arris : What of it?

Bill Maddox : I found my old Grandpa Doug's journal. It's a MacArthur Model 6 Journalmaster Mark 41!

Lev Arris : Lucky old Grandpa Doug.

Bill Maddox : Don't mind if I do, I'll have a beer! You'll have to speak up. Ear drums got a little dented. Too many explosions.

Lev Arris : What's your problem?

Bill Maddox : Next Tuesday. Now, came across an entry... he left an old warehouse full of hardware on Bex just before he died. The equipment is still there.

Lev Arris : I think I get the picture.

Bill Maddox : No, I'm not religious myself. All you've got to do is go and pick the stuff up. Clever guy like you should be able to do that.

Lev Arris : Yeah, but how will I know how to find the place?

Bill Maddox : Just land, and a friend will have the stuff loaded for you.

Lev Arris : What's in it for me?

Bill Maddox : [giggles]  My knee is fine! It's my ears!

    Lev Arris : Payment?

Bill Maddox : Oh! Six thousand. And I'll throw in a holobook I wrote about military hardware through the ages.

    Lev Arris : All right.

[giggling like a madman, Bill rummages through his various pockets and pouches until he finds a disc. He breathes on it and rubs it on his sleeve a couple of times before handing it to Lev. Then he shrugs and wanders off around the bar, holding his large ear trumpet to his ear]

  • [at the Shadow Play Bar, after Bill Maddox's mission is completed]

Bill Maddox : Hey! You did me a big favour there. Put a little something in your account just now, six thou'.

Lev Arris : [shouting into Bill's ear trumpet]  THANKS, BILL!

Bill Maddox : No! I'm never ill!

[Bill walks off, wandering erratically through the bar with his big ear trumpet]
