Tonight’s Web of Lies on Investigation Discovery looks at the chilling case of Nikki McPhatter, who was killed by a man she met on the internet. The new episode, called Searching for Mr. Wrong, re-creates the evening that Us Airways worker McPhatter of Charlotte, North Carolina, went on a fateful dinner date with Theodore Manning. She linked up with him on a website called Tagged.com. The episode also incorporates interviews with McPhatter’s family members, some of whom grew concerned after Nikki didn’t show up for her usual work shift at Charlotte-Douglas International Airport on May 11, 2010. It was later discovered that Manning had shot...read more...

This past Friday, President Donald Trump signed an executive order temporarily banning people from seven countries from entering America, including permanent residents with green cards. This decision sparked massive protests nationwide over the weekend at various airports where people demanded that immigrants who have been detained or are under threat of deportation be set free. On Saturday, Trump screened the Pixar film “Finding Dory” in the White House. While those two events may seem unrelated, comedian and daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres, star of “Finding Dory,” subtly explains why they’re connected. Watch the segment below.

Though Ellen says she doesn’t get political on her show and won’t be discussing the travel ban at length, she then summarizes the plot of “Finding Dory” and susses out the parallels between the film and the ban.

Ellen DeGeneres got a little political on her daytime talk show when she touched on President Donald Trump's controversial immigration ban, and Trump's recent White House screening of her Pixar comedy Finding Dory.
"If you haven’t heard, this is what happened over the weekend on Friday. The President gave an order banning people from seven countries from entering the United States, including people with green cards. Then on Saturday, the President screened Finding Dory at the White House," DeGeneres recounted. "I don’t get political, but I will say that I am against one of those two things."
Watch: Sophia Bush, Miley Cyrus, Sia and More Respond to President Donald Trump's Immigration Ban
Instead of diving too deep into sensitive political issues, DeGeneres stuck to breaking down the story of Finding Dory, which happens to have a few very timely parallels.

He might seem too good to be true. And if he's in a thriller, you should probably just bet that Mr. Right is a Mr. Wrong beneath his charming façade. That's the premise behind the three-hander The Perfect Guy, which stars Sanaa Lathan, Michael Ealy and Morris Chestnut. With this torrid tale set to hit theaters, we thought we'd look back at some the best bad movie boyfriends that we’ve fallen for. Mark Wahlberg, Fear (1996) David and...

The Duff dutifully hits almost every entry in the lexicon of modern high-school comedies: Here’s the scene where our narrator playfully lays out the social structure of her school; here’s the boy our heroine likes, who eventually turns out to be Mr. Wrong; here’s the trying-on-different-clothes montage; here’s the neglectful parent, and the clueless principal, and the goofy teacher; here’s the homecoming dance, where previously ironclad social roles get upended. So why is it so wonderful? Because wit and charm matter, and The Duff has a good deal of both. The cast will be stars, the gags will be immortal, and you’ll still be watching this movie years from now. That said, the premise of the story itself is a nasty bit of business. Our heroine, Bianca (Mae Whitman), part of a trio of longtime best friends, discovers one day that she might be...

Anna Kendrick is set to fall for “Mr. Right,” who may turn out to be Mr. Wrong, as played by Sam Rockwell, in a new film described as a romantic caper, according to Deadline. Kendrick will play a woman with bad luck in love, who seems to have found The One when she falls for Rockwell’s character, only to discover he used to be a hitman “with a past that won’t stay buried.” Ok, sounds a little too much like that Ashton Kutcher-Katherine Heigl dud “Killers,” but with Kendrick, Rockwell and Max Landis on scripting duties, we are definitely giving [...]

Miley Cyrus — don’t do it! No matter how much you may be missing your ex, and exchanging flirty texts with him, do not — I repeat, do Not — go back to a man who you know isn’t right for you!
Miley Cyrus, we’ve all been there — feeling lonely and missing the man we still love but can’t live with. It’s the stuff of tortured tunes — right, Miley? Can we just say, “Wrecking Ball”? We all know what it’s like to still be hung up on a guy that you’ve shared so much with. And in your case, it was four years — and an awfully gorgeous engagement ring.

Yes, you did spend a long time believing that Liam Hemsworth was the one. But when you split in September, 2013, it was for excellent reasons.

Katy Perry isn't one to miss catching up with girlfriends. So on March 17 the pop star spent the morning hiking in Los Angeles with her pal Selena Gomez, then showed her support for the actress by checking out Gomez's latest flick, Spring Breakers, at a movie theater. That same weekend John Mayer set up his own ideal night in Hollywood. The rocker was spotted at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre on March 16, hanging with close friends, including Saturday Night Live cast member Nasim Pedrad and comedian B.J. Adele sure knows how to keep rolling in the drama. First, came the happy reports that the recovering singer had found love again when she was spotted making the rounds around London with Simon Konecki (if nothing else, she was bound to get some future source material for her next album, right?). And then came word that the lovelorn singer's new beau might actually be Mr. Wrong—as in a man who was not only married, but had a child. Well, Adele is now not only standing by her man, but breaking her silence to defend him. So listen up, haters… The trouble started this week, when the British tabloids—as they are wont to do—went to work on the dirt-digging on her 36-year-old...

Drake has returned to where he rightfully belongs: the video for Mary J. Blige’s “Mr. Wrong.” The first video released for the tune featured Blige, some background dancers and a largely unused stripper’s pole, lamenting the joys and sorrows of loving a man who makes it hurt so good in all the wrong ways. However, Drake was nowhere to be found. [More after the jump...] A new version surfaced today that opens with Drake performing his opening rap before going into a slightly different edit of the original version. There’s still no interplay between The Queen and Drake, who clearly taped...

Mary J Blige sang a soulful 'Mr. Wrong' at 2011 American Music Awards in this new video (below). R&B star Mary J. Blige hit the 2011 American Music Awards stage last night in Los Angeles,California to deliver a very powerful and soulful performance of her song "Mr. Wrong." In the clip,Mary started belting the verses to her song at the back of the stage. A few moments later, she worked her way down the steps onto the main stage, and even did a little choreography with her backup dancers as she continued to hit those strong notes with a lot of emotion. She worked the stage like the pro she is as the performance continued. At the end, they showed a picture of the late Heavy D,and Mary said a few kind words about him before she exited. Check it out, below.

Mary J. Blige usually brings her A game for televised performances, and her time on stage at Sunday's (Nov. 20) American Music Awards was no different. It was what she did at the end of her performance, however, that really stood out.
Blige performed her newest single, "Mr. Wrong," at the AMAs, and she pretty well nailed it. It was a slow burn of a performance, building up to one of her trademark dramatic climaxes.
As she finished the song, though, she provided one of the show's few goose-bump moments with a simple but heartfelt tribute to her friend and fellow artist Heavy D, who died on Nov. 8. Heavy D was one of the first artists signed by Uptown Records, and Blige followed a few years later.
Blige also remembered Heavy D at a show in Los Angeles on Friday, saying "if it wasn't for him and Uptown Records, there would be no Mary J. Blige.

But Ben Heckendorn did. Pretty much from scratch, too, apart from the basic pinball-machine parts like flippers and so forth. He's been working on it since 2005. We showed you a preview of it a few months ago, when it was a work in progress. Now it is finished. And why did he make a pinball machine based on the movies of Bill Paxton? You might just as well ask why Keats wrote of Grecian urns, or why Kilmer wrote of trees. Because why not, that's why.
Heckendorn lays it all out on his blog, with many photos documenting the process. This year there is even more competition with some really interesting content now being released on the web rather than through more traditional media routes. Two of my favourites from this year’s nominee list are the excellent Interview Project which is presented by davidlynch.com and the slightly flawed but thoroughly enjoyable Angel of Death, created by Ed Brubaker and starring Zoe Bell, which also received a DVD release last year.
The awards ceremony takes place on April 11th 2010 and the full list of nominees is listed below with handy links...

Taylors Lautner and Swift join an all-star cast lost in the wrong movie.
Taylor Swift and Jennifer Garner in "Valentine's Day"

Looking for a rom-com fix this Valentine's weekend? Rather than fall for the calculated come-on of "Valentine's Day," you might want to revisit some much better films instead. For example:
» "Jerry Maguire"
» "Moonstruck"
» "Knocked Up"
» "House of 1000 Corpses"
Okay, I exaggerate. "Valentine's Day" does have a few good lines, and a couple of lively performances. But the movie is overstuffed with plot and characters; they're confusing to keep up with, and not all that interesting even when you're able to figure them out.
The story takes place on ... well, you know what day it takes place on. Ashton Kutcher is a love-struck Los Angeles florist who's just proposed to his sleep-over girlfriend, Jessica Alba. "I can be a sappy moron all day," he crows, with unwarranted presumption,...

It's been a while since we heard anything from the Coffin Rock camp, but today they dropped the trailer for the film in our inbox and offered Dread Central the chance to debut it on the web.
Rupert Glasson's first feature (read our Coffin Rock review here) has been described as "a skillfully woven tale of palpable unease and gripping suspense." Here's the full synopsis:
In the small coastal town of Coffin Rock, Rob and Jess live an almost idyllic life, their relationship marred only by their inability to have children. In a weak moment Jess sleeps with a stranger and later learns she’s pregnant. But the shocking truth is Evan targeted her the moment she walked into the fertility clinic where he worked. Now Jess’ guilt turns to full-blown horror as Evan begins a petrifying transformation from menacing stalker to unhinged psychopath.

One film being shown at this year's Film 4 FrightFest that caught our attention is Rupert Glasson's debut feature, Coffin Rock, described as "a skillfully woven tale of palpable unease and gripping suspense." And if the teaser trailer is any indication, that does indeed seem to be an apt description.

Babelgum has been stepping further into the web television waters lately, adding two notable comedy web series to its catalog in a distribution deal for A.D. Miles' comedy Horrible People and Fun Little Movies' dating comedy Turbo Dates. This comes fresh off the heels of the site's recent signing of Hayden Black's Goodnight Burbank for a fresh 20-episode run. Either way, Babelgum and Fun Little Movies sound like they are going to be teamed up for a while. Turbo Dates has already shot a second season, Chindamo tells us, with guest stars including Elisa Donovan of Clueless, Len Lesser of Seinfeld, Todd Grinnell of Desperate Housewives amongst others. Babelgum is said to be "very interested in licensing those new episodes." Flm also has a 22-episode series called Mr. Wrong that it is planning on releasing via Bablegum as well. IFC.com's newest web series "Like So Many Things..." premieres today, and co-creators Marin Gazzaniga and Anslem Richardson offer up their thoughts on the best films about romances that are anything but easy.
"Now it isn't that I don't like you, Susan, because, after all, in moments of quiet, I'm strangely drawn toward you, but, well, there haven't been any quiet moments."
-- "Bringing Up Baby"
Meeting Mr./Ms. Wrong movies come in many varieties. There are the star-crossed lovers who are kept apart by outside forces ("Romeo and Juliet"). Or the couple whose hate for each other is only masking the sparks of true passion (just about any Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy movie). Then there's the man or woman who's certain that someone is their one and only, but has to spend the course of the film convincing that person that it's true ("Bringing Up Baby"). Why is...

Monsters vs. Aliens
Directed by: Peter Cornwell
Cast (voice): Reese Witherspoon, Seth Rogen, Hugh Laurie, Will Arnett, Keifer Sutherland, Rainn Wilson, Paul Rudd
Time: 1 hr 10 min
Rating: PG
Plot:Right before Susan Murphy (Reese Witherspoon) strolls down the aisle to marry Derek Dietl (Paul Rudd), she is struck by a meteorite that causes her to grow a hundred times her normal size. The government whisks her away to a secret facility that keeps “monsters” away from the general public. When an alien (Rainn Wilson) invades earth to harness the energy from the meteorite, the government turns to the monsters for help. Long…gasp…explanation…wheeze…
Who’s It For?Everyone will get a kick out of this movie, but I’d say it’s especially for younger and pre-teen girls.
Expectations:The previews looked cool, the idea was cool, and Seth Rogen was a goofy blob. How could this movie possibly miss?...

I love Ellen DeGeneres. I really do. I loved her as a stand-up comic, I think she's great as a talk-show host, and she was marvelous as an animated fish in that little Disney movie. But her track record in live-action films has been horrible.
So it's hard not to cringe at the announcement that she'll play Mother Nature in as-yet-untitled film produced by Walden media, the folks behind Chronicles of Narnia, Journey to the Center of the Earth, Charlotte's Web, and Nim's Island -- all of which were heavy on superb special effects and short on everything else that might make them, well, good. (Their upcoming releases include a Duane Johnson flick titled Tooth Fairy, and ... oh, dear. That doesn't sound good, either.)
Adding to the cringe factor: The script will be written by Jenny Bicks, a writer and producer on TV's Sex and the City and Men in Trees.

When I bumped into a shelf on a recent trip to Blockbuster, a Mr. Wrong DVD fell at my feet, and I thought to myself, "Ellen has got to do another movie to make up for this." And lo, the Hollywood Reporter says she has now signed on with Walden Media to play Mother Nature in her first live-action film in 10 years.
The movie doesn't have a title yet, but the script is being written by Emmy and Golden Globe winner Jenny Bicks of Men in Trees and Sex and the City fame.
In the film, Mother Nature will return to earth for the first time since she created it. (What a shocker that will be, huh? "What the heck is a Starbucks, and why has it replaced all the trees I made?") Of the role, Ellen said, "I've always wanted to control the weather. Nothing will stop me from doing this ... neither rain,...

She's hosted the Oscars and won a plethora of Emmys for both her original groundbreaking sitcom and her current popular daytime talk show, but Ellen DeGeneres hasn't had a lot of success in the movie world. Sure, she voiced the fish who needed a friend, Dora, in the classic Pixar flick "Finding Nemo," but her resume is full of duds such as "Mr. Wrong," "Edtv" and "The Love Letter." Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, DeGeneres is looking to strut her stuff in front of the camera one more time as the iconic Mother Nature in an untitled comedy for...
