Although Marvel has had its ups and downs in the last few years, it is largely accepted as conventional wisdom now that when it comes to the world of cinematic comic-book adaptations, they've always done things better or at least more consistently than DC. The Warner Bros.-led DC distribution arm has gone through many iterations of some of the comic-book company's most quintessential heroes, like Batman and Superman, as much because of distinctive directors like Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder wanting to put their stamp on these iconic figures as because some of the more ambitious efforts have been big swings and misses. Yes, some of the DC Comics films have been amazing, such as Nolan's "Dark Knight" trilogy, but then there are films like "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," or "Catwoman," just to name a couple of misfires.
And yet, while those latter two films are perhaps...

Shaquille O’Neal is certainly one of the most beloved individuals in Hollywood. Being multifaceted in his reputation, he has become a lot more than a former basketball player, now being a sports analyst, an actor, and occasionally appearing in YouTube videos.

While all of these seem to track with his presence in the industry, many would be very surprised to know that O’Neal is also a very hilarious person. In fact, Will Ferrell recently revealed that he was once so funny on SNL that his part was cut out.
Knowing the truth behind what happened, fans cannot help but demand retribution.

Whenever young Darla Dudley screamed “Shazam!” she would transform into an adult superhero version of herself played by the beautiful Meagan Good. The actress always wanted to be a part of a proper action flick and what better to achieve this dream than by playing a superhero?
Meagan Good in Shazam! (2019) | New Line Cinema
During auditions, Meagan Good didn’t really know which film she was exactly auditioning for. All she did know was that she had to go in and pretend to be a ten-year-old girl, which was somehow her cup of tea. Of course, the actress nailed her audition and the role was hers to take but when she was told the film was Shazam! she mistook it for Shaquille O’Neal’s 1996 comedy Kazaam.

NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal takes his shot at landing the role of Axel Foley in a new video released by Netflix. The promo is advertising the upcoming release of the sequel, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, which will be the fourth installment of the action-comedy movie series.
In the new promo, Shaq sports Axel's familiar Detroit Lions jacket for what's labeled as a "screen test" for the Steel star. The basketballer jokes at the start that he's "come a long way since Kazaam," the 1996 box office bomb that featured Shaq in the role of a genie. Shaq then delivers some lines, but struggles to use the correct name of the character, instead referring to himself as "Shaqxel Foley." When he learns that he's not getting the role, Shaq insists on keeping the prop badge, and he walks off while humming the iconic Beverly Hills Cop theme song.

Sinbad's most recent appearance was in the fourth season of the acclaimed series Atlanta, where he played himself. Most comic-book movies feature a cameo or two, and Shazam: Fury of the Gods was no exception, but the film almost included a celebrity cameo which would have been amazing. Director David. F Sandberg took to Twitter to reveal that Sinbad was originally set to make a cameo in the Shazam sequel.

It seems like only yesterday that Lucy Liu was landing on a Philadelphia baseball field on dragon-back to cause chaos, yet tomorrow "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" is already set to land on digital platforms. Warner Bros. has confirmed to /Film that, as ComicBook.com first reported, the "Shazam" sequel film is already set to drop via digital release on April 7, 2023.
This is an exceptionally quick turnaround time for a film that hit theaters just under three weeks ago, but then again, superhero film fans don't exactly seem to be willing to head to theaters to support the Zachary Levi-led movie. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" saw a precipitous 67.8% drop between its first and second week of release, after underperforming during its opening weekend as well. The tragedy of lost media is real ... especially when it's lost from everything but false childhood memories. In a truly bizarre situation, many '90s kids claim to have seen a movie called "Shazaam," wherein Sinbad played a genie summoned by a young brother and sister. But no such movie exists.
False memories can seem like a plot device out of science fiction, but they're actually pretty mundane. The human brain is imperfect, after all. What's more bizarre is when multiple, unrelated people have the same false memories. This phenomenon has been termed "the Mandela Effect," named for former South African President and anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela.
And these memories of "Shazaam" are false. Sinbad himself has refuted them via Twitter. He even suggested people are misremembering a costume he wore to host a TV marathon of Sinbad the Sailor movies as his "Shazaam" outfit. That said, he did get...

There is a rich history of professional athletes making the jump from their sport of choice to Hollywood. Comic book collectors of the 1990s remember one particular pop culture milestone well. DC Comics, in one of the best-publicized comic book events ever, advertised that Superman -- the stalwart central figure of the entire genre -- was going to die. Television news reports covered the event, and fans were interested in the character like never before. Comic book stores had lines around the block to pick up a copy of Superman #75, which came sealed in a black plastic bag emblazoned with a dripping, bloody Superman symbol. A new monster, Doomsday, was invented to kill Superman, and the Man of Steel was punched to death. Although DC always had a plan to resurrect Superman, readers in 1992 felt that his death might actually be permanent.
However, in the brief period after Superman's death, and prior to his resurrection, DC Comics introduced four new Superman replacement characters. There was a robotic, sunglasses-wearing death bot called The Eliminator.

At DC’s FanDome, most films shared major reveals like trailers, teasers, villains reveals, and more. But for some movies, the pandemic has put them even further behind schedule (or tossed the schedule out altogether), making it harder to plan the steady drip, drip, drip of promotional reveals. For the lead of 2019’s joyously goofy runaway hit Shazam!, that meant leaning into his charm and a few four-letter words at the top of his panel.
After some serious shenanigans about how little he was allowed to say, director David F. Sandberg and the rest of the Shazam! cast Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, and Adam Brody joined Zachary Levi. Brody’s late inclusion (he says he clicked on the wrong link and showed up to a Kazaam 2 event) was a subtle indicator that the Shazam family of heroes will most likely continue into the second film.

Sinbad is starring in a “Shazam” movie after all — maybe.
The actor and comedian joined Zachary Levi and the cast of “Shazam!” during the DC FanDome virtual fan convention, where the sequel’s official title was revealed as “Shazam: Fury of the Gods.”

Rap beef is evolving. Earlier this year, Joe Budden and Nicki Minaj staged an inter-podcast scuffle that managed to say more about the act of aging gracefully (or, in that case, not) in hip-hop than anyone would like to admit. Now, two NBA players with successful side careers as musicians prove that the weird can always get weirder. Five days ago, Shaquille O’Neal posted a song aimed at Damian Lillard after the Portland Trailblazer claimed that he was the better rapper than the larger-than-life legend. For all those scoffing...

The famed comedian Sinbad, who plays Lil Rel Howery’s father in the upcoming Fox sitcom “Rel,” has dozens of credits listed on IMDb. But it’s the one not there that is perhaps his most infamous — though if you ask Sinbad about “Shazam,” he knows exactly what you’re talking about. “It came out of nowhere,” he told IndieWire, laughing. “And nobody knows why.”
The short version of one of pop culture’s weirdest memes is as follows: A few years ago, a growing number of people began to believe that at some point in the 1990s, they had seen a movie called “Shazam.” Not the upcoming Zachary Levi superhero comedy, though — a completely different film, starring Sinbad.
It’s one example of a phenomenon known as the Mandela Effect, which was recently the focus of an “X-Files” episode from Season 11. As Mulder and Scully discussed in “The Lost Art of Forehead Sweat,...

Do you remember comedian Sinbad's awful 90s movie Shazaam? No? Good, cause it doesn't actually exist. But quite a few kids from the era insist it does. And the myth is part of the Mandela Effect conspiracy that perpetuates the idea that we're living in an altered reality, where things aren't what they used to be. For instance, when did the Berenstein Bears suddenly became Berenstain Bears? Another idea that has sprung from the wellspring of Mandela debates is whether or not Sinbad starred in a kids fantasy movie about a genie named Shazaam. To celebrate April Fools' Day and perpetuate this myth even further, Sinbad has now gone and shot 'long-lost' footage from his Shazaam movie.
College Humor shared this missing sizzle reel from Shazaam this Saturday. And it's pretty amazing. As it stands, there are thousands of testimonies found across the Internet, with various people insisting that they...

Sinbad celebrated April Fools' Day by perpetuating one of the internet's greatest myths: The existence of his genie film Shazaam. On Saturday. College Humor shared "lost footage" of the comedian starring in the (fake) film on Saturday.
Based on countless testimonies found on internet message boards, a genie film titled Shazaam that starred Sinbad has been falsely implanted into the memories of thousands of Nineties kids.

LeBron James has often been compared to Michael Jordan, but it is Michael Jordon who just came out on top In what might be the most important category of all time. According to the movie going public, Michael Jordan's performance in the 1996 classic Space Jam is considered to be the best ever big-screen appearance by a sports star in a movie. LeBron James also made the list for Trainwreck, but he placed fourth. Maybe that will change after he stars in Space Jam 2?
The list was determined by a recent poll conducted by Fandango with more than 1,000 people voting for who they thought should come out on top. There is a lot of love from 90s kids for Space Jam, so it isn't that surprising that Michael Jordan won this race. LeBron James landed in the number four spot for his work in the Amy Schumer comedy Trainwreck.

As I compiled this list of musical scenes written or improvised by the actors who performed them, I quickly realized that I could never cover everything. The amount of music written by the actors in Christopher Guest films alone would more than double the size of this article. So I tried to limit myself to scenes and movies that I'd be able to give some fun insight on.
I literally got goosebumps rewatching some of these musical scenes. I hope you're inspired to give some of these movies a whirl in the DVD/Blu-ray player afterwards with a new sense of appreciation for the work that went into these musical moments.

-- Roger Ebert reviewed thousands of films over the years, influencing moviegoers across the country with his uncomplicated, yet intelligent reviews that were breezy and often quotable. Along with fellow film critic Gene Siskel, Ebert, who died on Thursday at the age of 70, created and made famous the thumbs-up, thumbs-down style of reviews. Here are excerpts of some of his memorable reviews for both film classics as well as movie duds.

Acting and basketball don't immediately seem to have much in common — one involves running, jumping, passing, dribbling and heaving a big orange ball through a ten-foot-high net; the other involves standing in front of a camera. So it's safe to say that being good at one does not make you good at the other.
That hasn't stopped plenty of basketball players from making the leap to feature films, though. So with March Madness upon us, we thought we'd take a look at basketball stars whose acting turns were either slam dunks — or flagrant fouls.
We've ranked the players from worst to best in terms of their acting, but ranking them in terms of their basketball skills would be much tougher: Every one of the eight players on our list won at least one NBA championship. But do any of them have a chance at an Oscar? Check it out and let the Madness begin.

Hollywood's Magic Castle, a hundred-year-old private club where invite-only magic is performed nightly, is becoming the basis for a movie. In addition to fulltime magicians illusionists, celebrity trickery-enthusiasts like Steve Martin, Neil Patrick Harris, and Johnny Carson have performed at the venue. Ted Field, producer of Jumanji, Shaq's supermagical Kazaam, and the Amityville Horror and Texas Chainsaw Massacre remakes, is behind the project.

This Weekend's "Winner": The Possession hung on better than most demonic-themed films, which are typically expelled from theaters right quick after their opening weekend. But even so, you know things are bad when the first place finisher doesn’t even crack double digits. In this case, it managed only $9.5 million. This Weekend's Losers: The Words opened — and here, we use the term 'opened' very loosely — to $5 million. (Which is to say, a half-teaspoon better than the 1996 Shaquille O'Neal Disney comedy, Kazaam, to pick one random film.) Even more ignominious was the fate of the aptly titled The Cold Light of Day, which opened to just $1.8 million, and didn't even make it into this week's dirty dozen of top finishers. Also worthy of scorn: Box office overall, which at just shy of $52 million is not just more than a third worse than the year's previous low-water...

Now that Shaquille O'Neal is a commentator for the NBA on TNT, GQ magazine sat down with the former basketball player to find out about some of his past career choices, including some time spent acting and rapping. The magazine wanted to know what he thinks about his 1996 "Kazaam" movie. "I was a medium-level juvenile delinquent from Newark who always dreamed about doing a movie," explained Shaq. "Someone said, 'Hey, here's $7 million, come in and do this genie movie.' What am I going to say, no? So I did it." When the topic of his rap career came up, Shaq said: "It was just about opportunities and just to say that I did it. And I got to do it with some of the greatest, Jay-z, Nas, Notorious B.I.G., Mobb Deep, Method Man, Redman. My dream was to be a rapper, go onstage, and to do a show. And I did that.

Shaquille O'Neal is considered one of the best centers in NBA history. Unfortunately, that approval does not extend to his acting career.
In 1996, Shaq starred in "Kazaam," a movie about a giant genie who appears from a boombox to grant a lucky boy three wishes. For years, the film has been laughed at by critics and audiences. However, as the former athlete told GQ, Shaq had a perfectly good explanation for taking the role.
"I was a medium-level juvenile delinquent from Newark who always dreamed about doing a movie. Someone said, 'Hey, here's $7 million, come in and do this genie movie.' What am I going to say, no? So I did it."
Take that "Kazaam" haters!
Hey, Shaq, while you're at it, could you explain your inexplicable rap career, too?
"My dream was to be a rapper, go onstage, and to do a show. And I did that."
Fair enough.

Basketball star turned commentator and Twitter master Shaquille O'Neal has dabbled in many off-the-court projects over the years, as GQ details in this quick sitdown, but none are quite so memorable as his 1996 genie-in-a-boombox movie Kazaam. How, exactly, did Shaq find himself granting wishes in a brocade waistcoat? "I was a medium-level juvenile delinquent from Newark who always dreamed about doing a movie. Someone said, 'Hey, here's $7 million, come in and do this genie movie.' What am I going to say, no?" Totally fair! For the record, Shaq also watches Kazaam on the regular (or he watched it "the other day," at least — that seems more regular than most people?). And his three wishes would be to take care of his family; to own all the Condé Nast magazines; and to have nine NBA championships. Quick, does anyone know a supernatural being who could arrange wish No.

A review of last night's "Parks and Recreation" coming up just as soon as I remake the movie "Kazaam" with Shaquille O'Neal and get it right... When I visited the "Parks and Rec" writers room back in June, the staff spent a long time trying to break the stories for this episode (it took so long, apparently, that it got moved from the season's second episode to its seventh), and in terms of what makes this such a great comedy - and this a great episode of a great comedy - it's instructive to look at how "End of the World"...
