To paraphrase Wesley Snipes circa 1992, "I only have [five] words for you: 'White Men Can't Jump' [remake]." That's right, you favorite comedic basketball hustlers, or a 2023 facsimile of them, are back in a Hulu original film that's coming your way this May. It's been over 30 years since Snipes issued his immortal declaration to Woody Harrelson about the slam-dunking abilities, or lack thereof, of white guys on the b-ball court, and now a new generation of actors and filmmakers is here to update the story for the streaming age.
We first heard about the "White Men Can't Jump" remake way back in early 2017, so it's been gestating for a while, with "black-ish" creator Kenya Barris attached to write. NBA player Blake Griffin and former NFL player Ryan Kalil are set to produce alongside Barris through their production company Mortal Media. Tony Hendra, the British humorist and National Lampoon alumnus who played the blundering This Is Spinal Tap band manager responsible for delivering both the tiny Stonehenge and one of the film’s greatest sight gags, died Thursday of Lou Gehrig’s disease in Yonkers, NY. He was 79.
Hendra’s wife Carla confirmed his death to The New York Times. The actor first was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s disease, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Als), in 2019.
A member of the Cambridge University Footlights revue in 1961 and 1962, Hendra appeared onstage with both John Cleese and Graham Chapman, establishing himself in the new British humor scene along with those future Monty Python stars. He moved to the United States in 1964 with comedy partner Nick Ullett. The duo opened for Lenny Bruce at the Café Au Go Go in New York’s Greenwich Village and appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show.

Tony Hendra, the British satirist and comic whose roles included top editing positions at magazines such as National Lampoon and Spy and a part in musical mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” died on Thursday in Yonkers, N.Y. He was 79.
His wife, Carla Meisner, told the New York Times the cause of death was Lou Gehrig’s disease, which the writer was first diagnosed with in 2019.
In Rob Reiner’s 1984 mockumentary “This Is Spinal Tap,” he played Ian Faith, the bumbling band manager who tells Michael McKean’s character that having a gig in Boston canceled isn’t a big deal because “It’s not a big college town.”
Hendra began writing and performing comedy while a student at Cambridge University, working alongside future members of the Monty Python troupe. In 1964, he and his performing partner, Nick Ullett took their stage act to the United States, where he regularly began performing stand-up comedy,...

Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman tackles the early days of the first African-American justice in Us Supreme Court history...
He's played Jackie Robinson in 42 and James Brown in Get On Up, and now Chadwick Boseman is tackling another notable figure in history: Thurgood Marshall, the man who went on to become the first African-American Supreme Court Justice of the United States.
The movie in question is called Marshall and the first trailer for it has arrived. The film chronicles pivotal events in the early life of Marshall when he was a lawyer for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in America. Here's the official synopsis:
Long before he sat on the United States Supreme Court or claimed victory in Brown v. Board of Education, Thurgood Marshall (Chadwick Boseman) was a young rabble-rousing attorney for the NAACP. The new motion picture, Marshall, is the true story of his greatest challenge in those early days – a fight he fought alongside attorney Sam Friedman (Josh Gad), a young lawyer with no experience in criminal law: the case of black chauffeur Joseph Spell (Sterling K. Brown), accused by his white employer, Eleanor Strubing (Kate Hudson), of sexual assault and attempted murder.
Marshall is directed by Reginald Hudlin, who has helmed films like Boomerang and The Great White Hype but was also, among other things, president of entertainment at Bet for three years. Hudlin also wrote Marvel's Black Panther comic book series from 2005 to 2008, a run that included the wedding of Black Panther and Storm, and of course Boseman is now playing the Panther in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his solo feature coming out in February.
Marshall is out October 13 in Us cinemas, although a UK release has yet to be confirmed. Watch the trailer below:

There's a lot to love about this trailer for David O. Russell's The Fighter, starting with the fact that it's directed by David O. Russell (Three Kings, Spanking The Monkey, Flirting With Disaster). It's based on a true story:
A drama about boxer "Irish" Micky Ward's unlikely road to the world light welterweight title. His Rocky-like rise was shepherded by half-brother Dicky, a boxer-turned-trainer who rebounded in life after nearly being Ko'd by drugs and crime.
Mark Wahlberg stars as Micky, with Christian Bale as brother Dicky, and they both look at the tops of their respective games. Amy Adams plays Wahlberg's love interest, as an added bonus. Check the trailer:

BET has hired veteran filmmaker Reginald Hudlin as its chief programmer, a move that industry observers hailed as a positive sign for a channel that has long faced criticism over the quality of its programming. As president of entertainment at BET, Hudlin will oversee all of the network's programming divisions, including development and acquisition of series, music, sports and news. He will split his time between BET's production hubs in New York and Los Angeles, and its headquarters in Washington. "For me, the opportunity to work on such a giant canvas, in the form a 24/7 network, is just incredible," said Hudlin, whose film credits include The Great White Hype and Serving Sara. "It's a great entrepreneurial opportunity." Upon being named successor to the network's founder and CEO, Robert Johnson, last month, BET president and chief operating officer Debra Lee identified naming a programming chief as one of her priorities.
