Attack on Titan: The Musical , the stage play adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan , will debut to American audiences at New York City Center for one weekend only this October 11th-13th. The production is led by Kurumu Okamiya as Eren Yeager, Sara Takatsuki as Mikasa Ackerman and Eito Konishi as Armin Arlert. The production is coming stateside after premiering in Japan in 2023. Boosted by Locarno-awarded debut Instinct, Dutch actor-director Halina Reijn fit nicely in the A24 canon with her satirical thriller Bodies Bodies Bodies. Yet the latter elicited rather lukewarm critical responses and it almost seemed Reijn might have been a one-hit European wonder fallen prey to the American dream. Then came Babygirl. As one of the first competition titles to grace the Lido, it promises a lot: not only does its title roll off the tongue with a delightful ring, it leaves one feeling a bit giddy (and a little naughty) for having uttered it aloud. Let’s not forget this is a film about a tech CEO / star mom / perfect wife (played by none other than ice queen Nicole Kidman) submitting to a much-younger intern (Harris Dickinson) to the point of literally eating from his hand.

Gina Gershon appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” and was asked by host Andy Cohen if she ever hooked up with Tom Cruise. The two actors starred together in 1988’s “Cocktail,” where Gershon remembered nearly breaking Cruise’s nose during the filming of a sex scene. The moment just so happened to be Gershon’s first time shooting a love scene in a movie. The actor said Cruise “totally” took care of her while filming.
“He was a gentleman,” Gershon said. “It starts off under the covers and I told him I was very ticklish. I was like, ‘No, no, don’t ever do that.’ In one take, I think he wanted a reaction, and he grabbed my stomach and I kneed him right in the nose. I was like, ‘Oh my god! I just broke Tom Cruise’s nose.’ He was like, ‘No you told me to. It’s my fault.

Jennifer Tilly might be known for cult indie films like the Wachowski sisteres’ “Bound,” beloved classics such as “Stuart Little” and “Liar Liar,” plus her Oscar-nominated turn in Woody Allen’s “Bullets Over Broadway,” but the actress has not worked with auteur Martin Scorsese yet.
That is, unless you count “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” which to Tilly is akin to being in a Scorsese film.
Tilly told New York Magazine that joining “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” was a career high, like as if she collaborated with “Raging Bull” auteur Scorsese.
“I never thought I’d be on ‘The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.’ To me, it’s like working with Martin Scorsese,” Tilly said.
While she appeared in a “friend of” supporting role, Tilly is now officially a full-time cast member, following in the path of other fellow actresses Kyle Richards, Lisa Rinna, Denise Richards, and Eileen Davidson.

Stars: Kristen Stewart, Katy O’Brien, Jena Malone, Anna Baryshnikov, Ed Harris, Dave Franco | Written and Directed by Rose Glass
Lou (Kristen Stewart) lives a remotely modest life, working as a gym manager in a small town in New Mexico. She soon meets Jackie (Katy O’Brien), an ambitious bodybuilder with dreams of competing in Las Vegas. As the two grow closer, Lou’s family dynamics take over their lives, leading to disastrous consequences.
Let’s begin by stating the obvious — Rose Glass’ work in Love Lies Bleeding has changed the lesbian canon of cinema forever. Even in 2024, a shrewd, meaningful sapphic movie that doesn’t try to be sexual for the sake of pleasure is terribly hard to come by, with golden nuggets such as Carol and Disobedience passing muster. While these often-tragic love stories are all well and good, Glass has doubled down on her unique offerings by incorporating genre and nuanced scope,...

Actress Gina Gershon recently shared a revealing glimpse into the challenges she faced early in her career when she decided to take on the role of Corky in the 1996 film “Bound.” Speaking on the “It Happened in Hollywood” podcast, Gershon recounted how her agents at the time strongly advised against her playing a lesbian character, warning that it could potentially ruin her career.
“My agents were like, ‘We will not let you do this movie. You are ruining your career. We will not be able to let you represent. You will never work again,'” Gershon recalled. The pushback came shortly after her performance in Paul Verhoeven’s controversial film “Showgirls” (1995), with her representation concerned about the potential risks of taking on another provocative role.
Despite the pressure, Gershon stood firm in her decision to participate in “Bound,” recognizing the quality of the script and the talent of first-time directors Lana and Lilly Wachowski.

Mixed genres movies sometimes turn into actual gems. But we are not talking about similar bunch of them thrown together, like when it is a crime drama with thriller elements. What makes it interesting when the genres that are not so easy to mix are blended together.
For example, horror comedy is one of our favorites, and it does get a lot of praise. But there’s one subgenre that is totally underrated, and that is erotic thriller. Not everyone understands the power of such movies, probably thinking of it as some sort of 50 Shades franchise equivalent.
Here are 5 stunningly good thrillers in which sex serves not as a means of thirsty entertainment, but as a powerful narrative tool.
1. Chloe (2009)

You can add Gina Gershon and “The Matrix” to your list of cinema’s all-time worst missed connections.
During a recent interview for the Criterion Collection’s DVD re-release of Lilly and Lana Wachowskis’ debut feature “Bound,” Gershon told IndieWire that she was still bothered by the fact that she was not asked by her former directors to star opposite Keanu Reeves in their sci-fi masterpiece about a robot apocalypse from 1999.
“It’s hard, because I really wanted to play that part, and I thought I was going to, and then they ended up casting Carrie-Anne [Moss]. So I don’t think I could be completely objective,” Gershon said. “I still see myself in that part. Listen, she did a wonderful job, and I think I understand why they cast her, but I always thought I was going to play Trinity.”

Sure, irradiated zombies and bloodthirsty apocalypse bikers can be pretty scary. Draculas and Frankensteins? Scary. Cthulhus… Mothmen… Graboids? The absolute worst. But for indie content creators, no boogeyman or cryptid is quite as hair-raising as the many great and monstrous leviathans ritualistically summoned by the occult and alchemical ritual known as filmmaking. Look: there’s Shaky Financing dragging itself out of the swamp, eyes burning blood red! And there: Collapsing Theatrical Market, unfurling its batwings in the rafters of the old abbey! And so on and so on.
But! As the Cryptkeeper, Vaultkeeper and Old Witch have reminded us many times before, misery loves company. So rather than hanging on the edge of your seat anxiously peering through ragged knuckles at the current (but only temporary!) dumpster-fire state of your latest film project, instead console yourself with the fact that many of your Halloweentime horror favorites have had their own very bumpy rides.

Fresh off the seam-bursting unsexiness of “Showgirls,” Gina Gershon had a decision to make.
The then 30-something actress, still a relative newcomer in Hollywood, stood out as a star in Paul Verhoeven’s 1995 disaster-piece despite its infamously shoddy production. The next role Gershon chose would be critical to shaping the rest of her career. And while partnering with the siblings Wachowski on their debut feature was a good instinct even before “The Matrix,” the eventual “Bound” star was discouraged from making her breakout performance that of a lesbian plumber named Corky.
“I was literally told that I was ruining my career and I could not do this movie, which really made me mad,” Gershon told IndieWire in an interview celebrating the film’s DVD rerelease for The Criterion Collection. “I just thought it was so stupid. I already wanted to do the movie, but it made me want to do it even more,...

The last few years have not only brought LGBTQ films and stories further into the mainstream, but queer movies have dominated awards seasons and found commercial success in unlikely places.
Lydia Tár — played by “Carol” star and esteemed lesbian (adjacent?) icon Cate Blanchett — dominated the 2022 Oscars race and became a well-worn touchstone in the year’s critical film and cancel culture conversations. The summer before that, Billy Eichner and Nicholas Stoller made history with Universal Pictures’ “Bros,” among the first ever gay rom-coms funded by a major studio: an important victory — even if that film did go, uh, soft at the box office.
That’s just the tip of the iceberg on another banner year for queer film: at least one win in a hard-fought cultural movement, seemingly poised to face new challenges in the not-so-distant future.

These days, queer movies come in all shapes and styles, from handsomely mounted biopics (“Milk”) to kid-friendly rom-coms. That’s a good thing; you want queer art to enjoy variety and novelty, and appeal to all audiences in the LGBTQ community. But sometimes, you want something very specific from a queer film; you want it to be sexy as hell.
When queer movies started bubbling into the mainstream in the early ’90s via movies like “Philadelphia,” they tended to be slightly sanitized, lacking much in the way of physical depictions of intimacy. That’s changed as the years have gone on. Thanks to films like “Brokeback Mountain,” there’s now a ton of modern examples of queer films that aren’t shy about their leads getting it on. But there’s a longer history of sexy queer cinema that goes back well before the ’90s, even if many of those...

Bound will release on 4K and Blu-ray in the Criterion Collection on June 18th, 2024.
A mere three years before they changed the cinematic landscape forever with The Matrix, Lana and Lilly Wachowski delivered a bare-bones, neo-noir thriller overflowing with tension and sensuality. In their feature directorial debut, the sibling filmmakers showcased their talents with a grounded thriller set primarily within the confines of a single apartment building.
Bound Plot
Corky (Gina Gershon) finds herself drawn to Violet (Jennifer Tilly), the woman living down the hall of their shared apartment complex. However, things are complicated when its learned that Violet is married to Caesar (Joe Pantoliano), a mobster with violent tendencies. When the two women make the decision to steal money from the mob and start a new life together, things begin to unravel and nothing goes according to plan.

When it comes to the classics of cinema—and sometimes the dregs—it’s always fun to think about what might’ve been. Casting especially can be a strange alchemy between actor and role, and when the formula is off, it’s easy to ponder whether the spell would work at all. Can you imagine Robert Redford as Michael Corleone? What about Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones? And it’s an interesting challenge to envision what Tim Burton’s Batman might’ve been if it starred Bill Murray versus Robin Williams.
The casting of Neo in The Matrix is another legendary “what if?” in movie history. The 1999 classic, which just turned 25 years old earlier this month, is now beloved for its reinvention of Keanu Reeves. He plays Neo in the film; a former sad sack hacker who discovers he’s actually a superpowered messiah sent to free us from a digital prison.

Stories about misfits of any kind that come together to form the families they always missed has always been one of cinema's favorite concepts. Isaac Hirotsu Woofter, an award-winning script writer and actor comes with his own take of the concept, bringing together different types of misfits, from various aspects of the (US) society, and placing them in New York.

Bella is a young woman who cannot stand watching her mentally ill uncle/stepfather torturing her mother. When she realizes he has hidden her college acceptance letter, essentially preventing her dreams of going to art school, she kicks him out of the house, supposedly for the last time. However, when her mother, Yeva, takes him back once more, Bella decides to take her pocket squirrel and head to NYC with no money, no friends, no roof, and too much pride to turn back.

The Matrix franchise has to be one of the greatest sci-fi movie series ever made that has pushed the genre to a new height. But it was never easy to make it. There were a lot of changes in the cast of several characters, including Neo and Trinity. But interestingly, the Wachowskis presented the script in a very different way.
Keanu Reeves as Neo in The Matrix films
Directed by the Wachowski siblings; Lilly Wachowski and Lana Wachowski, The Matrix franchise started on a weird note, at least not what Warner Brothers expected. The duo reportedly presented the script in a format that was beyond the wildest imagination of the studio. No wonder they picked it up after several rejections from so many different studios.

"Whoa." This is the famous word uttered by Keanu Reeves in "The Matrix" that has become a meme, one of the actor's most quoted lines, and perhaps the best way to sum up this movie's unexpected impact on cinema when it arrived in 1999. The Matrix cast and crew revolutionized movies 25 years ago with a mesmerizing story and cutting-edge technology. Directed by the Wachowskis, The Matrix became a surprise hit in 1999 and launched a franchise that extended to movies, comics, and video games.
Keanu Reeves gave a career-defining performance as Neo, paving the way for his status as a bonafide action star and fan-favorite actor. His supporting cast in The Matrix included Carrie-Anne Moss, Laurence Fishburne, and Hugo Weaving. Together, they delivered a movie that influenced a generation of filmmaking and holds up 25 years later. The Matrix may have been a surprise then, but now it’s no wonder the cast remains active in movies and TV.

Ready for a cinematic “walk on the wild side”? Perhaps something in the film noir category, but not similar to something you’d run across on one of those nostalgia streaming channels. Maybe something set just before the turn of the century rather than the decade post-wwii. Sure, this new flick is a crime thriller involving multiple murders, but that’s just one aspect. Let’s see, there’s a big (truly huge) daughter/father conflict so it’s a family drama. And it’s certainly a romance ala’ girl meets girl. Oh, and one of them is seeking fame in the competitive world of female bodybuilding events. Now, that’s really different and certainly unique. Mix all those genres and subplots together and you get an insight into the provocative title, Love Lies Bleeding.
Oh, the backdrop year is in the 20th century, way back in 1989. We first meet...

Lilly Wachowski is bound to direct “Trash Mountain,” a queer comedy-drama starring rising comedian and actor Caleb Hearon. The film follows a young gay man living in Chicago who returns to his hometown in Missouri following the death of his hoarder father.
Along with starring in the feature, Hearon also co-wrote the script with Ruby Caster. Colin Trevorrow, who directed Hearon in “Jurassic World Dominion,” is producing the feature with his banner Metronome Film Co., alongside Eddie Vaisman and Julia Lebedev for Sight Unseen.
“Trash Mountain” will mark the first solo directorial feature effort for Wachowski, who is best known for writing and helming the original “Matrix” trilogy with her sister, Lana Wachowski. The duo’s other projects include the lesbian crime thriller “Bound” and the colorful manga adaptation “Speed Racer.”

It's difficult to encapsulate the importance of Lana and Lilly Wachowski as directors. While the queer crime thriller "Bound" marked the sisters' directorial debut, it was their 1999 hit "The Matrix" that completely changed the landscape of science-fiction cinema forever. In 2021, the franchise's fourth installment, "The Maxtrix Resurrections" was released, but the film was a solo directorial venture from Lana Wachowski. Lilly has not directed a film since 2015's "Jupiter Ascending," but spent time directing season 1 of "Sense 8" and serving as the showrunner for "Work in Progress." The former was yet another sci-fi epic, but the latter is a sweet, semi-autobiographical queer dramedy starring Abby McEnany. It seems that working on this series must have inspired Lilly to continue similar creative ventures because according to a report from Collider, her next feature film is "Trash Mountain" starring Caleb Hearon.

When a magnificently gnarled Ed Harris, wearing stringy Argus Filch hair and chomping on a horned beetle in a moment of psychotic rage is far from the weirdest thing in a movie, you know you’re in for a wild experience. That’s what Brit director Rose Glass delivers in Love Lies Bleeding, a lesbian neo-noir drenched in brooding nightscapes, violent crime and more hardcore KStew cool than has ever been packaged in such a potent concentrate. Seriously, is there anyone who doesn’t want to watch Kristen Stewart flicking back a greasy shag, driving an old pickup and chain-smoking in grubby tank tops?
Glass instantly established herself as a singular talent with her 2021 debut, Saint Maud, an audacious shot of undiluted terror and spiraling insanity that announced an idiosyncratic new voice in horror. She follows with a swerve into romantic, sexual and physical obsession that fearlessly keeps upping the...
