Cash Out opens with Mason Goddard and his crew stealing an outrageously expensive supercar as what he intends to be his last heist. Things don’t go as planned however as one of them, his girlfriend Amelia no less, is an undercover FBI agent. He barely escapes, and since he was already planning to retire, takes it one step further, he fakes his death and drops out of sight.
Three months later, his brother Shawn drops by trying to interest him in coming out of retirement for one more job. That doesn’t work, but when another member of the crew, Link calls he’s packing and on his way to the airport.
The next thing we know, Mason and Shawn are kidnapping a bank manager and the plan is in motion.

On the movie screen, Jennifer Lopez is known for being a romantic comedy queen in films like "Maid in Manhattan," "Monster-in-Law," and "Marry Me." However, on Netflix, she appears to be pursuing a wholly different crown and going after action movie and genre glory. Sure, Lopez has made her share of genre thrillers, especially early in her career: "Money Train," "Anaconda," "U Turn," and "Out of Sight," most notably. Yet it's her turn in 2023's "The Mother" that marked her debut as a fully-fledged action star and now she's following that up with a lead performance in a big-budget sci-fi shoot 'em up, if the new trailer for Netflix's "Atlas" is any indication.
As a co-producer as well as star of "Atlas," Lopez has put together a pretty promising team to bring her next Netflix-distributed action venture to life. Alongside co-stars Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong, the...

This is Me…Now: A Love Story is a film starring Jennifer Lopez and directed by Dave Meyers.
I must confess, at first I had no desire to watch this film, but as a professional, I felt obligated. However, I must also confess that we were pleasantly surprised by this original musical, written and starring Jennifer Lopez, which revolves around her own life and love affairs, as one may expect.
However, “This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is not just about the romances known from magazines and television. It is a futuristic video clip with several musical numbers, each with high quality in terms of photography and set design. Although it may seem self-centered and geared towards her fans, I must admit that “This is Me…Now: A Love Story” is of great quality and production.

Zorro and Expats are the big shows coming to Prime Video in January. The former is what Amazon are calling a “bold reinterpretation” of the classic hero El Zorro for 2024. Starring Miguel Bernardeau as Diego de la Vega and Renata Notni as Lolita Marquez, it’s definitely an intriguing-sounding action-adventure series, with a ten-episode first season based on the iconic character originally created by Johnston McCulley all the way back in 1919.
Meanwhile, upcoming drama series Expats is based on the bestselling 2016 novel The Expatriates by Janice Y. K. Lee, and follows “the vibrant lives of a close-knit expatriate community” in Hong Kong. Nicole Kidman has been known for picking the right kind of shows to lead in the past, so let’s hope this is another banger for the actress, who is also on board as an executive producer here.
Here’s everything coming to Amazon Prime Video and Freevee this month.

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

There’s this theory out there that annoys most Trekkies, being that, of the films, only the even-numbered entries are good. This stems mainly from the fact that everyone remembers Star Trek V: The Final Frontier as being the worst movie of the series and ignores that Star Trek: The Motion Picture – while divisive – was a hit, and so was The Search for Spock. However, Star Trek V: The Final Frontier is indeed a bad Star Trek movie, and in this episode of Revisited, we’re going to look at exactly what went wrong with something that was clearly a passion project for its star and director, William Shatner.
Jump back to 1986, and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home was a significant hit. It was the highest-grossing movie in the franchise and earned critical raves. People that didn’t even like Star Trek were down with this earth-bound adventure of the crew of the U.

If you’re wondering what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in June, the answer is a lot. The streamer has a solid slate of movies heading into summer 2023. From the first two “Creed” films to “Love, Rosie,” “Yours, Mine & Ours” and other clever romantic comedies, the streamer has a range of options for viewers with different tastes. Newer theatrical releases arriving on the streamer in June include “TÁR,” “Armageddon Time,” and “M3GAN.”
TV premieres to look forward to include Boots Riley’s “I’m A Virgo” and the fourth and final season of John Krasinski’s “Jack Ryan.” “Crazy Rich Asians” arrives early in June, followed by “Interstellar” for all Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey lovers. Even though “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” doesn’t release in theaters until November, all four “Hunger Games” films land on Prime Video this June. Perfect timing — maybe even with a reread...

With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.
It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.
The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.

The fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” arrives on Prime Video on June 30. It finds Ryan — now the new acting CIA director — unearthing internal corruption and suspicious black ops that leaves the United States vulnerable to attack. John Krasinski stars as the tough-as-nails Ryan.

Robert Blake — the actor best known for his roles on “Baretta” and in the film “In Cold Blood”, as well as for being tried and acquitted of his wife’s murder in a high-profile case — has died. He was 89.
Blake’s niece, Noreen Austin, confirmed the news in a public obituary, sharing that Blake died from heart disease in Los Angeles on Thursday, surrounded by his family.
Blake’s career began in childhood when he started acting in MGM’s “Our Gang” short films, a.k.a “The Little Rascals”. Blake managed to maintain his career through his teens, and after getting drafted into the Army, Blake returned to acting in his mid-20s.

It was announced today that controversial actor Robert Blake has died at the age of 89. His niece, Noreen Austin, confirmed that he died at his Los Angeles home after a longtime battle with heart disease. Blake was best known for his roles in Richard Brooks’ adaptation of Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood, David Lynch’s Lost Highway, and for starring in the 1970s detective series Baretta.
Robert Blake got his start as a child actor, appearing as Mickey in forty installments of MGM’s Our Gang short films. He also played Little Beaver in twenty-three installments of the Red Ryder film series. He also appeared in The Treasure of the Sierra Madre as a young Mexican boy who sells a lottery ticket to Humphrey Bogart. It’s blockbuster season and Amazon Prime is celebrating by bringing a major action film to its stream.
That’s right, Amazon Prime’s list of new releases for July 2021 is highlighted by none other than The Tomorrow War on July 2. The year is 2051 and mankind is locked in a vicious war against an alien species. Our only hope is to go back in time and find…Chris Pratt. Ok, perhaps that’s a little reductive of the film’s plot. Future humanity also comes back to bring Sam Richardson to the future.
In terms of originals, there isn’t much else to speak of on Amazon Prime this month. The only other major release is The Pursuit of Love on July 30. This BBC series is directed by Emily Mortimer and takes place during the WWII era and follows two cousins as they navigate their lives. Lily James and Andrew Scott star.

Just as the Super Bowl traditionally inhibits studios from releasing new titles to theaters, there were few fresh films available on home platforms. As a result, four titles — all previously ranked #1 on multiple charts — took the top spots again. The exception was Netflix, which debuted “Malcolm & Marie” February 5. Starring Zendaya and John David Washington, it immediately became the streamer’s most-watched film.
Long-running, still-Premium VOD titles “Greenland” and “News of the World,” along with $5.99 rentals “Tenet” and “Let Him Go,” are this week’s chart toppers. “News” and “Tenet” made all four lists (as did “The War with Grandpa”). “Let Him Go” failed to make Spectrum’s top 10, with its price reduction coming too late to impact the list.
There were a few surprises. Why is “2067,” an Australian science-fiction film starring Ryan Kwanten and Kodi Smit McPhee, available for $0.99 at Apple? (It’s more expensive elsewhere.) “Promising Young Woman,...

Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson have teamed up a couple of times in the past, once in the still-funny White Men Can’t Jump, and then once again in Money Train, which was still amusing but not quite as popular. They were also in Wildcats together, and Snipes had a minor role in Play It to the Bone, a boxing movie that Harrelson starred in with Antonia Banderas. The two have proven that they have great on-screen chemistry together, but it’s been a while since we had the chance to see it play out, largely because Snipes managed to get himself

In a plotline nobody saw coming (let alone a movie being made about it) a young Bernie Sanders swears a blood oath to Joseph Stalin in the trailer for the upcoming satirical comedy, “Free Lunch Express.”
The movie is clearly not trying to portray Sanders in a positive light. For example, at one point, a young Sanders can be seen in front of a propaganda poster of Stalin, saying, “I totally pledge with this blood oath to dedicate my life to never picking up a dinner check, never donating to charity, and like in the glorious Soviet Union, making sure the government pays for everything.”
Malcolm McDowell serves as the film’s narrator. “Aw, Bernie, bless his cotton socks,” McDowell caps off the trailer by saying.

Hollywood has a new hero – legendary stuntman Jack Gill, who stood on his roof with a fire hose, surrounded by flames, battling to save his home in Agoura Hills, just across the road from the Paramount Ranch, where its famed Western Town film set burned to the ground in the deadly California wildfires inferno. And after he saved his own home, Gill and his family fought to save those of their neighbors. “I think it’s something that anybody would do if they had the right equipment,” he told Deadline — spoken like an action movie hero, and a real life one too.
The firefight was a family affair. He battled the blaze with his son Cody, a stuntman-turned musician, and nephew Carl Joyce, a pro tennis coach, who took turns with two hoses, pumping water up from the backyard swimming pool. (Watch the video below) “They’re strong guys,” he said,...

It was absolutely no surprise that Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine movie Logan would top the box office, but it actually ended up doing even better than my prediction when actual numbers came in, grossing $88.3 million over the weekend. That makes it the fourth highest X-Movie opening (including Deadpool) but also the biggest R-rated opening for March, defeating 300’s once-impressive $70 million opening. Hollywood has no shortage of talented composers crafting mostly serviceable tunes for the next young adult literary adaptation or prestige awards tearjerker. But for every auteur like Hans Zimmer and John Williams, you have musical yes men pounding out ominous notes in anticipation of the next horror movie jump scare or making ratatat noise to underscore a superhero chase scene. The film world screams for diverse sounds, but is often left wanting when scores become interchangeable to feed the Hollywood machine. The current film decade is no different from any other in terms of talent, mediocrity, and ingenuity, but could always use a boost from professionals who bring specificity to the table. These five forgotten or diminished artists, each among them with varied yet singular skills, are screaming to be brought back into the Hollywood fold to create their signature sounds.

Trains in cinema have always made for an excitable source within the realm of the comedy, drama, mystery or suspense pertaining to the plot of a particular film. The setting for the featured trains as the driving force of entertainment serves as the heart and soul of the action for the most part.
In some cases using trains as a last minute symbolic theme for a film can generate great impact that thrives and questions the motives and urgency of the characters and storyline (i.e. the climax scene in The Defiant Ones where the salt-and-pepper escaped convicts Tony Curtis and Sidney Poitier try and make a desperate dash for permanent freedom on a speeding train en route to permanent freedom). Perhaps a train could also add an extra element of action-packed excitement in a film’s conclusive ending such as the uncontrollable commuter train in Speed?

Screenwriter Graham Yost, now the showrunner of FX’s Justified, admits that the plot of Speed sounds ridiculous: A bomb on a bus will detonate if the bus travels below 50 mph. But when the movie was released June 10, 1994, a funny thing happened: It became a hit with moviegoers and critics alike. To quote EW’s grade-a review: “The film takes off from formula elements – it’s yet another variation on Die Hard – but it manipulates those elements so skillfully, with such a canny mixture of delirium and restraint, that I walked out of the picture with the rare sensation that...

Now TV also has you covered during Christmas week by adding a new big title pretty much every day between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Day, although apart from Elf on Now TV and a dedicated Christmas selection, there is a disturbing lack of Christmas themed films on the other services.
Someone add National Lampoons Christmas Vacation and Gremlins quick!

It's generated some classics and more than a few stinkers, but too many buddy-cop films are simply boring

2 Guns shows that the cop buddy movie has flatlined. It only took 24 hours for the film to vanish from my mind – and I took notes. Yes, it's the umpteenth buddy-cop retread, where two wily but likable antagonists are forced to team up to fulfil their competing agendas. Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington play undercover operatives posing as drug traffickers in order to snag Edward James Olmos's Latin drug lord. Their chemistry and fast-talking effervescence are instantly appealing: Washington the swaggeringly confident dandy, and Wahlberg all nerves, jitters and querulousness.
But as usual, the problem is the formula, not the duo. Diverting as the banter is, there's no dodging the fact that Walter Hill's 48 Hrs has officially now been remade for the bazillionth time in 31 years.

Environmentalist. Cannabis spokesperson. Playwright. Vegan. Cannabis enjoyer. Woody Harrelson is a complex individual and a multifaceted presence on screen, his roles running the range of clean-cut cowboy to cold-blooded killer. But no matter who he's playing there always seems to be a lingering essence of the real Woody, and that's why he rules.
This week sees the former TV star getting "Cheers" for his role as a stage-magician-cum-bank-robber in "Now You See Me" and this November he'll reprise the part of Haymitch Abernathy in his first-ever sequel, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire." We're stoking the fires of Woody worship as we pay tribute to our favorite High Times cover boy with nine of his quintessential roles.
9. 'A Scanner Darkly' (2006)
There's no denying the essential Woodiness of stoner dude Ernie Luckman in Richard Linklater's rotoscope animated take on one of Philip K. Dick's most grounded and personal novels.

Sylvester Stallone has made it perfectly clear that Wesley Snipes has an open invitation to join the Expendables franchise . only, a little thing called prison was keeping the action star from participating in the fun. Now that Snipes is free from jail, though, Stallone is hopping back on the actor.s Money Train, and claiming he.s a member of the crew. Stallone took to Twitter to proclaim that Snipes .is Back!!!!! . . with Us.. This, in Twitter speak, replaces an actual studio confirmation of casting, so keep it in your back pocket as probably going to happen but not exactly set in concrete just yet. The idea of a third Expendables movie, however, seems about as rock-solid as sequels get. Stallone admits on his own Twitter feed that he.s hard at work on the script for part three, and started the conversation on the social media outlet by asking...

Bet you forgot all about this one, but guess what, so did we. First announced way back in 2011, seemingly shot, completed and then left to collect dust, the thriller "Penthouse North" starring Michael Keaton and Michelle Monaghan now has an international trailer. And thank goodness they are both on to much, much better things. Veteran of sorts Joseph Ruben ("Sleeping with the Enemy," "Money Train," "The Forgotten") directs and plumbs the depths of this B-movie schlock, with a story about a traumatized photojournalist (Monaghan), who holes up in her swanky apartment, until scenery-chewing criminal (Keaton) comes looking for diamonds (!?). What happens next is a lot of Monaghan flailing around, falling down stairs, not helped by the fact her character appears to be blind. Looking pretty cheap all around, and seemingly mostly confined to a single location, it's probably not a big shock that this promptly fell off the radar. As we said,...

Looking at the Best Actor Academy Award nominations for the film year 2012, the one miss that clearly cries out for more attention is Liam Neeson’s powerful performance in Joe Carnahan’s excellent survival film The Grey, easily one of the best roles of Neeson’s career.
In Neeson’s case, his lack of a nomination was a case of neglect similar to the Albert Brooks snub in the Best Supporting Actor category for the film year 2011 for Drive(Nicolas Winding Refn, USA).
Along with negligence, other factors commonly prevent outstanding lead acting performances from getting the kind of critical attention they deserve. Sometimes it’s that the performance is in a film not considered “Oscar material” or even worthy of any substantial critical attention.

Trains have played a central part in some of cinema.s most engaging mystery thrillers. A short list would read Sidney Lumet.s Murder on the Orient Express, Alfred Hitchcock.s Strangers on a Train, and Brad Anderson.s Transsiberian. No matter how long that list gets, however, it will never include Joseph Ruben.s Money Train. The next entry on that list, however, could be Bong Joon-ho.s upcoming Snowpiercer, which has released its ominous first poster, as seen below courtesy of Twitch The sci-fi thriller, based on the French graphic novel Le Transperceneige, takes place during an Ice Age brought about by failed efforts to stop global warming, where all of Earth.s remaining survivors travel aboard the Snow Piercer, a non-stop train powered by perpetual motion. If you spent any part of the long holiday weekend in front of your television, then you no doubt spotted Die Hard (and Die Hard 2) in heavy rotation either on basic or pay cable. There's also a new Die Hard movie (A Good Day to Die Hard) arriving in theaters on February 14, and you probably caught a TV spot or two for that one as well. Essentially, there was a lot of hard dying over the holidays, and we made sure to spend at least a few hours nursing our New Year's hangover by hangin' with one of our favorite on-screen heroes: John McClane. While tweeting an observation about all the f-bombs in Die Hard 2, our buddy from Cinephilia & Beyond pointed us at the website for writer Doug Richardson (Die Hard 2, Bad Boys, Money Train), and aside from it being a great...

The Good Son director Joseph Ruben has signed on to direct a remake of Orson Welles' classic 1946 thriller The Stranger. Whenever I see another remake announced it's like nails scratching across a chalk board for me. It just annoys me that we aren't seeing more original film content.
Welles directed and starred in the original movie alongside Edward G. Robinson who played an agent of the War Crimes Commission on the hunt for one of the engineers of the Holocaust, that was hiding out in Connecticut.
The remake was written by an Alanna Belak, and it will "focus on a reformed serial killer who has reinvented himself as a small-town professor but is visited by his former partner, who wants them to start killing together again." It's not completely the same story but close enough.
Ruben has also directed films such as The Forgotten, Sleeping With the Ememy and Money Train.

Reel Important People is a monthly column that highlights those individuals in or related to the movies who have left us in recent weeks. It is unfortunate that we lose so many great film contributors, on-screen and off, that it's impossible to pay extensive tribute to every one. But I think it's important to recognize them at least in this monthly digest, not to mourn but to remember their work. Below you'll find names big and small and from all areas of the industry, though each was significant to the movies in their own way. George Bowers (1944-2012) - Filmmaker who directed My Tutor and Private Resort. He was primarily an editor, often of films by Joseph Ruben, such as Money Train, Sleeping with the Enemy, The Good...

The glamorous and gorgeous Jennifer Lopez seems to get more beautiful every day and today she turns 43! We first fell in love with the Bronx beauty as a Fly Girl on In Living Color, and now she’s made her mark on the world as an unstoppable power woman (not to mention, mom of two) and international superstar. She gained recognition starring in tons of movies in the late ’90s and early ’00s including Money Train, Out of Sight, The Wedding Planner and Maid in Manhattan. When her second album, J.Lo, came out, it was #1 on the Billboard charts the same exact week that her film, The Wedding Planner led in the box office. This made her the first person to achieve a #1 film and a #1 album in the same week. We are not worthy, Ms. Lopez. Oh, and did we mention that she is still kicking ass? Even...

For over 25 years, Woody Harrelson has entertained us with a wide array of characters ranging from psychopaths to lovable losers. This year alone we've seen him in two very different parts: a wickedly corrupt L.A. cop in "Rampart" and a Republican party strategist in "Game Change." His latest role -- sure to be one of his more colorful -- is Haymitch Abernathy, the drunken mentor of Katniss in "The Hunger Games."
To celebrate his versatility, we look back at Harrelson’s nine best performances in what has become an impressive career.

We can all agree that February is the shortest month of the year. That’s even true in a leap year like this, when Science lets February have an extra day. Now, where February is a good month for movies is extremely debatable. It’s not a dumping ground, like January; it’s also not a platform for releasing not-ready-for-Summer action movies, like March; and most of the best movies that “open” in February are just hitting the festival circuit. (The average civilian won’t get to see those movies until this time next year, when they’re disappointingly nominated for Best Picture.

Lionsgate is currently shopping a project around the Toronto International Film Festival that is notable for two big reasons, the awesome and sometimes underappreciated duo that they have attached to star. Penthouse North will see Michelle Monaghan playing a haunted photojournalist who is running from a past tragedy by holing herself up in a posh New York penthouse, with Michael Keaton playing a criminal who seeks a hidden fortune that he believes is somewhere in said penthouse. The two will then presumably engage in some sort of cat and mouse shenanigans that eventually see Monaghan’s character having to muster up the resolve to get past her trauma and survive the incident. The film is set to be directed by Joseph Ruben, who hasn’t done much lately, but who made a string of pretty sweet late night cable catches in the mid-’90s, films like Sleeping With the Enemy, The Good Son...
