Jane finds her misquoted criticism of a colleague's release of a mental patient, who murders again, leads to a patient of her own, Peter Donaldson, (Ben Mendelsohn), facing the pressure of exposure to an unforgiving public. In an attempt to help him come to terms with the situation, Jane discovers someone who bears a grudge and is dangerously close to driving Peter over the edge.
Jane Halifax makes a professional blunder when she publicly criticises a fellow psychiatrist's role in the release of a mental patient who goes on to brutally murder a young nurse. As a result of her comments, the media launches an aggressive campaign highlighting other murderers recently released from mental institutions. This causes a young man previously treated by Dr. Halifax to become the target of the media's scrutiny and forces Jane to wonder if this once-dangerous former patient may be on the verge of a possible relapse that may revive his criminal mind.
