Warning: Spoilers
This is a mediocre story about a family starting to break a part. The father and husband Jeff (C.T. Miller) is bored with life, the mother and wife Linda (Griffin Drew) misses her husband's company, and their teenage daughter (played by young Lisa Boyle) is disrespectful and always with her boyfriend. Then a beautiful friend of the wife comes to visit and stay, Elke (Shauna O'Brien). She starts to notice the family's problems while staying. Eventually it starts to get interesting as this "friend of the family" starts to seduce them, and it almost helps them get back together. A pretty silly story, but worth a look for the nudity content. There is quite a tender and arousing lesbian scene between Elke and Linda. Okay!

No pun intended and can be interpreted in multiple ways. And although a movie like this - well let's say you probably will not watch this for the story. So if you like the trio of women that are here (the main ones that is, there are more actors involved, do not worry), you will have a hoot. And a ... well a lot of nudity - you wil have too (Yoda proud of me would be).

I watched the "sequel" before I watched this, but other than Shauna (playing a different character) there are not many things in common. Well that and lots of nudity and getting it on (and off - sorry for the pun).

You have more diversity (if that is what you would call it), when it comes to ladies in this one. The sequel is quite rare and concentrates on Shauna. You may consider that a good thing I reckon. Up to you - no pun intended. Here we concentrate on family - and what could make it stronger ... or weaker when someone new enters their life (innuendo much? Yes and I'm not sorry).

Not much of a story here, but there is ... pleasing ending (I just had to)

Good quality and quantity amount of sex
benherover7230 January 2001
A Friend of the Family has amazingly quite a bit to offer for a b-movie. The important being sex and nudity. But hey, the acting is actually very tolerable. The ladies (Lisa Boyle, Shauna O'brien and Griffen Drew) are amazing to look at with better than average sex and nudity scenes. The dialogue could be better, but then quality dialogue was not high on my reasons for renting this movie. This is a very worthwhile rental.

Lisa, Shauna, and Griffin. What else can you ask for?
insomniac_rod1 April 2006
This cult steamy soft core flick has aired for many times on Skinemax and many Latin American cable channels. I had the chance to first watch it on cable years ago and to this day, it's one of the best erotic thrillers I've watched. It has everything: a sexy and interesting plot, hot women, hot sex scenes, and likable characters.

You can't go wrong if Lisa Boyle, Shauna O'Brien, and Griffin Drew are in the same movie.

I'm a huge fan of Shauna O'Brien but I must admit that Lisa Boyle OWNED this movie. The woman is fantastic. She's hot, extremely beautiful, and is a delight to watch her sex scenes. She's wild!

This movie is famous (or infamous?) for it's lesbian sex scenes and for Lisa Boyle's sex scene in the car. Check out Shauna's sex scenes; she's the best. No one like her could do lesbian soft core porn like Mrs. O'Brien. Also, her sex scene with the father is memorable. I expected more sex from Shauna but well she delivers expectations on the sex factor. She goes to bed with the step-mom and father, and tongue kisses the daughter and the song. She's a naughty friend! I enjoyed her scenes because if she didn't have sex, she would wear the sexiest outfits (spectacular mini dresses, tight jeans, etc.).

Watch this movie if you appreciate soft core flicks. This is for sure, one of the best of all time. Buy this one on DVD. But be sure that it's the unrated version. Enjoy!

Plenty of sex for all tastes!

Not bad for softcore
Acetylcholine15 March 2000
Let's be honest, one does not watch a movie such as this for the intellectual kind of stimulation. It is softcore porn, and is closer to that genre than film. As such, the acting is near always amateurish and unrealistic; story line ridiculous if even existent; and most importantly, its structure is segregated into sex scenes with filler space between them to fake a movie format. A good softcore movie has many great sex scenes, and somewhat entertaining if imbecile filler space. "Friend of the Family" has many good sex scenes, and filler space that is as kind hearted as it is hilariously absurd. This adds up well, recommended! (do make sure to get the unrated version, even god knows that softcores have multiple edits.)

Good for the Libido
ajh928s46 June 2002
Edward Herman movie features a decent story line involving a disfunctional family caught up in the non-communication syndrome common to families where the husband has re-married to a younger woman who is rejected by the teenage daughter. A bit over played and under acted but saved by the sage advice (and liberal sexuality) of the "heroine", Elke played convincingly by the enticing Shauna O'Brien. Griffen Drew is delectable as Linda, the put-upon new wife, while Lisa Boyle is her usual vixen-like self as the rejecting daughter. The sex scenes are tasteful and erotic but lack emotion and passion, as is so often the case in this genre of soft core films. Still the morale fiber is kind of unique and the ending holds a bit of interest as everything comes together and the future looks considerably brighter for all concerned.

Better than most modern soft-core.
smatysia15 January 2003
One of the better examples of soft-core in the 90's. Yes the acting wasn't the greatest, but the plot was at least decent. The nude/sex scenes were good, particularly the bathtub scene. But there was some exhibition of my pet peeve. Congratulations to Shauna O'Brien and Raelyn Saalman for forgoing, and shame on Griffin Drew and Lisa Boyle/Cassandra Leigh for indulging in mass quantities of silicone. Why does anyone think that huge mounds of gel are more attractive than a woman's natural breasts? Gals, ... They're not! This is why 70's soft-core films are usually so much better than modern ones. The silicone show is distracting and ugly. As for FOTF, It's worth a look. Grade: B-

Thought -provoking content and sexy - worthwhile film
tootster11 January 2007
Hi All, I first rented this movie from Video Ezy, Australia in 1998. The first time I played this - I loved it. I was and am not worried whether it was a B grade film or thought about the level of quality the movie provided. I initially rented it out as YES it had some soft porn content as envisaged when reading about the storyline and also it intrigued me.

I watched it several times during the rental of the film, and then over time I taped it when it came through cable TV. I had this recorded for me as a surprise gift (that is how much I liked it) through my partner. Which obviously we watched together the first time round.

I watched it again tonight (believe it or not) after a few years because I watched another movie of similar nature and I felt like watching it again.

The things I liked about this movie was: firstly the hot and sultry actresses. Certainly gave off some steam! Such as Lisa Boyle as first interest and certainly Shauna O'Brien. They oozed sexual appeal. Griffin Drew was there as well but my focus / attention was mainly set on Lisa & Shauna.

My observations and favourite parts of the film were: the sex scene between Montana (Lisa Boyle) and Billy (Begue Georges). He was the french male with the muscles near the beginning of the film. I thought this scene was raunchy....individual likings as I see it.

Although,I thought Montana portrayed a promiscuous teenager - namely at the age of 27 (in real age). She learnt eventually through being taught some simple life values when growing up as an adult.

Then secondly, not the bathtub scene so much although I like watching girl to girl scenes, but mostly the montage' which Josh did of Elke (Shauna) with the rendition of "Slave to Love" by Bryan Ferry. In their terms was titled "So Sexual" with the background music of Slave To Love. I wonder what turns me on about this scene, as I see it....

It was definitely Shauna's beauty, her confidence oozed throughout the clip, and the white bikinis comforting her gorgeous tanned and well-looked after body. They looked good together. I thought it was sensational that piece in the film. I liked the way it was put together. I usually rewind it a few times when it comes to that scene. And did tonight. So they are the most favourite parts of the film I liked in a sensual sense.

Overall, I also thought the talks between the Dad (Jeff) and Montana (Lisa B) were worthwhile and good to listen for valuable advice. It was how the actors portrayed the words in the scenes, which I thought were quite convincing.

Lastly, of course, Elke was great with her wisdom, positive and objective advice she bought towards the family. The seduction and sex scenes with the family were an added bonus and were meant to send a message to the viewer in a more pragmatic light.

I overall think that Elke (the title as I know it) is a good film to watch without too much to take in, easy to understand and easy on the eye. Not much of a plot but I suppose a "feel-good film" in an angelic sense. At the end, the story as it was written - achieved some positive results.

Thanks for your time,

Never mind the plot
rlphf27 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The basic plot is something like outsider hot girl stays with a dis-functional family and uses her sexual super-powers to fix everybody who is screwed-up including teen daughter, the mom and the dad ! (but not all at once)

my favorite scene is when daughter Montana, played by Lisa Boyle, gets a good 'talk' from the hot girl Elke played by Shauna O'brien, although there is no sex scene between the two - there are a couple of good sexy kisses. Then Montana dances to a tune a she tries on different outfits. unfortunately we don't get to see her changing in and out of them.

The song ( i think it is called "STOP" by artist Much Masa, is an great example of catchy pop-song writing and i've tried to locate anything about it, but no information anywhere.

So i give it rating 1 for plot, but who cares, 3 points for Shana Obrien, and 3 points for Lisa Boyle for a total of 7.

Why can't we be friends?
Robbie-4312 November 1999
The director Holzman reveals he is a child of the 60's where "Make love not war" was a catchphrase. The overall theme of this film is that tensions between warring parties can be solved by getting some action. With this in mind and an impressive cast, this film caught our attention at the Eye Candy Hall of Fame. First of all it stars Griffin Drew (2nd team All-Century). Other actors of interest are Shauna O'Brien (as Elke--the friend) and Lisa Boyle. As a public service announcement, Ms. Boyle's scenes are quite tame and there are better films out there to display her true abilities. We don't know if this was intentional or not because she plays a teenage girl and the producers may have feared it would be bordering on kiddie porn. All we can say is that no girls at our high schools came close to being as mature as Ms. Boyle's stature. The good part is that Ms. Drew and Ms. O'Brien make up for this omission and beyond (the hot tub scene).

Friend of the Family aka Elke
allmoviesfan7 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One of the best examples of the 90's softcore movie explosion. Elke (the dazzling Shauna O'Brien) turns up on the doorstep of a dysfunctional, warring Malibu family - dad and step mom are arguing, kids don't like each other, female daughter doesn't like her step mom, the usual - moves into their guesthouse, and by way of seducing each and every one of said family, helps them figure out their issues. That's it - that's the entire plot. Exactly how sleeping with all of them is going to help make things a little less crazy and tense, I'm not sure, but there are some great sex scenes littered throughout this movie - they come at a pretty decent clip. The scene in the bathtub between Shauna O'Brien and Griffin Drew (playing the mother, Linda) is especially good.

Now this is good.......I give it an A.
Smooth B6 January 2000
Also called "Elke's Erotic Nights", Shauna O'Brien comes through as a sexy relative, who combines her sexual prowess with a little bit of real-life advice. The family is in turmoil: the father is having trouble getting his kids to like his new, younger wife; the son can't find it in himself to tell his father he wants to be a photographer and not a lawyer. Griffin Drew plays the undersexed stepmother (wow, she's pretty young to be playing a stepmom, isn't she?), and Lisa Boyle is cast as the slutty, promiscuous teenager (??? Huh? Isn't she like 25?). Nothing's going right in this house, but Elke comes to the rescue and saves the day. She gives the stepmom a great workout in the bathtub, teaches the teenage slut not to spend every waking moment on her back, and after having sex with the father, gives him sound advice on getting in touch with his wayward son. It's like Elke is the advice expert all the guys would want to know. She'll tell you what to do....after she has sex with you! A very well thought out movie, not your standard B-movie fare.

This is one of my favorite films. This one has Griffin Drew, Lisa Boyle, and Cassandra Leigh. Leigh comes to town and starts seducing every single family member. My Favorite scene is the one with Griffin Drew and Cassandra Leigh. This is true erotique.

They don't make it like this no more!
dhruv-virtualreality4 November 2014
Don't be alarmed by the title. I'm not talking about the vintage bushes. Being an Indian, I have seen an older Indian movie which shares plot similarities with this movie, however that one is an ethical, family value teaching movie. For those interested, its called- Bawarchi (1972).

This movie was a softcore porn combined with a potential script. A lady, acquaintance of the mistress of the house, just emerges out of the blue asking for just a place to live in their house, and eventually ends up ridding the dysfunctional family of their relationship problems. Shauna O'Brien happens to be that unknown angel and I was left stumped with the way she played her role. Absolutely charming and talented she is. Griffin and Lisa were bangin' hot. Burke and Will were good with their roles and kept me interested in the movie, despite my impressions and presumptions of it being another crap B-grade movie. Overall, the story was very well and I would love to give it a go again sometime. This movie gets an 8 from me.

Great Eye Candy
J_Charles13 December 2011
Griffin Drew & Lisa Boyle - post silicone. Raelyn Saalman and Shauna O'Brien pre-silicone.

Griffin and Shauna look fabulous and they share a tender scene together in the bathtub that looks so real. The lighting, the pace, and everything is just perfect. Griffin has a few early scenes including a fantasy scene and one with her husband. But she leaves part way thru the movie and Shauna takes over, shagging anything that moves - including the husband. The only one she doesn't seduce is Lisa Boyle's character. Instead they play dress-up. Lisa's scenes usually involve shady boyfriends and don't seem as hot as the other scenes.

Shauna is amazingly hot in this movie and it's too bad she's since ruined her look with balloon implants. Oh well, at least we can remember her natural beauty with this movie.

Film offers up a king size amount of sex.
bigpappa1--217 May 2000
A friend of the family named Elkie moves in to a family's house, to help them sort their troubles. And what help she provides. She seduces mom, dad, daughter, even son. Film has only two good things to offer: plenty of sex and plenty of nudity. But hey, that isn't so bad. Worth watching for the scenery, not the dialogue ( except some moaning sounds ). 5 out of 10.
