Sex & Nudity

  • ZigZag makes bizarre, unwanted advances at the Princess, including leering at her, making strange noises and raising his eyebrows up and down at her. He is implied to be much older than she is.
  • In the Re-Cobbled version, a brief scene features a gang of unnamed characters talking about what they could get if they had money. "Women" is said at one point.
  • The underwear of ZigZag and an unnamed guard are seen in various scenes of the film (dark pink boxer shorts in both instances). The Princess' outfit, consisting of a halter top, a veil and puffy pants, is also somewhat revealing, but not to the point of full nudity.
  • In the Miramax version there was only one scene involving a woman bathing, but you only see the back side of her in the tub. While in the Re-Cobbled version, you a couple more shots of the woman bathing, but only above the breast line was shown in the movie.
  • In the Re-Cobbled version, ZigZag presents the sultan with a woman from Mombassa. She is referred to as a "plaything" and she is hidden behind a curtain.
  • In the Re-Cobbled version version, there is a scene that implies that she and the Sultan are having sex, but you don't see anything happening in that scene due to the curtains being drawn.
  • Also in that version, during the polo match the Sultan sticks his hand in the curtain and the woman's pleasured laugh is heard. The curtain is still present in the Miramax version of this scene, but the hand action is cleverly edited out.
  • In the Re-Cobbled version, when ZigZag enters the One-Eye's camp, there are scantily clad dancing girls who form a chair for One-Eye to sit on when he commands "Throne!" They are still seen in the background as a throne in the Miramax version.

Violence & Gore

  • Some moderate slapstick violence, meant to be comedic, including a character stepping on a sharp object, a vulture burning its buttocks on an open flame, and a character being repeatedly hit on the head with a hammer. None of these scenes imply serious injury to the characters, however.
  • The One-Eyes are a warring race and they have a giant war machine with "tentacles" resembling dragon faces, according to the restorers of the film.
  • A soldier races to the palace with spears in his back. He and his horse die from their wounds at the palace after delivering their warning.

Profanity

  • There is a scene where the Thief appears to be taking a pee into an oasis (he is seen from behind, with both his hands in front of his crotch and a stream of water coming out). When he turns around, it is revealed that he is only draining water from a pot he is carrying.
  • In the Recobbled version, Zigzag becomes frustrated and yells "oh fffffff-" but finishes with "Phido".
  • King Nod looks from the balcony in the distance and sees his daughter and replies "Oh my god. My daughter." In all 3 versions of "The Thief and The Cobbler."

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A scene where an old lady inhales fumes, her eyes get striped like she is hypnotized or is in a psychedelic state.
  • none

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The One-Eyes can be frightening to younger viewers.
  • Some of the grotesque characters can also be frightening to younger viewers, especially as this film is very different from much children's fare.
  • In the Re-Cobbled version there's a scene where the Thief weaseled his way out of an arm chopping sentence after trying to steal a gem.
  • The entire "Thief in the War Machine" sequence contains large amounts of flame. destruction, and (humorous) near-misses that could scare young children.

Spoilers

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Violence & Gore

  • Tack is captured, and ZigZag threatens to execute him. The character is later locked in a jail cell filled with human bones, chained to a weighted ball. He is able to escape eventually.
  • In the Miramax version the violence was torn down to a point where you see very few characters getting killed. However, the Re-cobbled version shows blood in one scene, and more casualties during the battle machine destruction sequence. This includes such deaths as death by giant flyswatters and irons.
  • The dancing girls in the One-Eyes' palace sit on Mighty One-Eye, their leader (to get back at him because he sat on them) by after the One-Eyes' war machine is destroyed.
  • Zig-Zag is eaten by Phido in the darkness. It is implied that alligators also eat Zig-Zag.
