Plot

Amar (Aamir Khan) (of the "Hai La" fame. He has wet dreams about meeting Juhi Chawla on the road and giving her a lift on his cycle. They fall in love and almost get married, when his father Muri (Deven Verma) wakes him up. Murli owns a barber shop. Amar has flunked college. Amar has suggested to his dad to sell the barbershop but Murli would rather kick him out of the house) and Prem (Salman Khan) (His father Bankelal (Jagdeep) is a tailor. Prem steals money from him to pay Johnny (Mehmood) (of Wah Wah productions) to launch him the film industry. But Johnny is a fraud, who had earlier duped Bakelal's father also) are two daydreamers with a common aim: getting rich by marrying a rich heiress, Raveena Bajaj (Raveena Tandon), daughter of the wealthy Ram Gopal Bajaj (Amar has sold his father's shop and Prem has sold his father's house to fund their journey & objective). Raveena travels to India with her secretary and friend, Karishma (Karisma Kapoor). She is in India to find a suitable groom.

The men run into each other on a bus bound for Ooty, where Raveena lives, and soon realize that they have a common goal. Their initial friendship (Prem's Chaudhary and Sons vs Amar's Mehta textiles. Do Dost Ek Pyaale Mein Chai Peeinge) soon shifts into animosity towards each other as they see each other as rivals for Raveena's affections. They are arrested by Inspector Pandey (Tiku Talsania) for creating public ruckus. Amar tries to implicate Prem by stealing his wallet and putting his photo on the most wanted list. But Prem pulls the same trick on Amar and Amar inaugurates the jail cell.

Nobody is aware that Ram Gopal (Paresh Rawal) has a twin brother called Shyam Gopal Bajaj, alias Teja. Teja is a criminal who has taken much money from Crime Master Gogo (Shakti Kapoor). Teja hopes to land the riches himself by kidnapping his brother and posing as Ram at his house. He has also planted his cronies Robert (Viju Khote) and Bhalla (Shehzad Khan) in the Raveena household.

Eventually they end up spending the night at Sevaram's (Harish Patel) lodge. The next day they realize that many youths have the same plan and Amar aligns to Prem to get rid of the competition. They disguise themselves as Bademian and Chotemian, and tell the assembled youth that they are Raveena's uncles and that her wedding was already arranged to Amar/Prem Singh during her childhood. But Bhalla catches Amar's beard and identifies him as a fraud. Amar runs away without warning Prem, who is beaten up by everyone. Meanwhile, they decide to insinuate themselves in her house. Amar pretends to be a man who has lost his memory after getting hit on the head by Raveena, while Prem pretends to be a doctor (Raveena names Amar Tilu, since she finds him on a small hilltop). Karishma is attracted to Prem, but Prem keeps pushing her away. Prem gives horse injections to Amar and makes him eat a diet made only of peppers. Amar, to take revenge, puts laxative in Prem's food. They keep sabotaging each other's chances.

Robert and Bhalla attempt to kill Raveena multiple times to no success. They plant a time bomb in flowers, but Amar and Prem fight over who gifted the flowers to Raveena, and eventually throw it out of the house. The scorpion poison laced soft drink, that Amar mixes up while pretending to be a football playing royal.. eventually the poisoned glass ends up with RObert. Teja plans to kidnap Raveena, but that also is thwarted when Robert and Bhalla bring a gun belonging to Vasco-Da-Gama. slowly Karishma falls in love with Prem and Prem is depressed.. The boys do not know that Raveena and Karishma switched identities. The secretary "Karishma" is the real Raveena while the rich heiress "Raveena" is actually Karishma. Raveena switched her identity because she wanted to find a boy who will love her, not her money. Amar realizes this after treating "Raveena" to an expensive dinner at a posh restaurant and has to wash dishes afterwards since "Raveena" doesn't have that kind of money. Prem has fallen for the real Raveena, while Amar has fallen for the real Karishma.

Ram arrives in India and Teja plans to steal Ram's money converted in diamonds. Ram sees through the real nature of Amar and Prem, thus declining Raveena's marriage to either of them. The duo plan to fake a kidnapping where they will heroically "rescue" Ram. Unknown to them, Teja has also planned to kidnap Ram. Teja succeeds in having Ram kidnapped. Amar and Prem go to rescue Ram, but Teja makes them believe that he is Ram and enters Ram's household. Initially, nobody suspects a thing, but the girls soon smell a rat ("Ram" is suddenly drinking and abusing a lot. Plus he is searching the house for the diamonds).

The girls tell their suspicions to the boys. The boys tail Teja and soon find out the truth about twins. Here, Ram tricks Teja and escapes the prison. However, the boys mistake him for Teja, resulting in Ram being imprisoned again - with Amar and Prem. However, Amar and Prem succeed in convincing Robert and Bhalla that Ram is Teja and release them.

The boys, along with Robert and Bhalla, stop Teja (who had just withdrawn the diamonds from the locker). Robert drops Teja unconscious (Thinking it is Ram) and Amar takes custody of the diamonds. Meanwhile, throughout the film, Robert and Bhalla are constantly harassed by Gogo who's demanding his money back. He soon discovers about the diamonds and kidnaps Ram along with Raveena and Karishma. At Gogo's lair, the boys try to control the situation along with Ram. In a comic standoff, the real motive of each villain is revealed. After all the villains have been beaten, Amar hands over the real diamonds to Ram. But Gogo takes the diamonds from Ram, Teja from Gogo, Bhalla from Teja, Robert from Bhalla. However, due to the smartness of the boys, police raid Gogo's lair, thus rounding up all the criminals. Ram gets his diamonds back and finally decides to let Karishma and Raveena marry Amar and Prem respectively.
