Brendan Fraser in Airheads - Una band da lanciare (1994)

Airheads - Una band da lanciare

Rob Zombie
Did You Know Rob Zombie Was Almost Cast in Robert Rodriguez’s ‘Sin City’?
Rob Zombie
Rob Zombie was nearly one of the sordid characters running amok in Robert Rodriguez‘s Sin City.

The filmmaker/musician shared the anecdote on Instagram with photos from Spike TV’s 2006 Scream Awards, where The Devil’s Rejects took home the award for Best Horror Movie.

“Robert asked me to play a role in Sin City but I was shooting The Devil’s Rejects at the time and had to decline,” he writes.

It’s unknown what part Zombie would have played — perhaps a Swat team member alongside (or in place of) Rodriguez himself — but it likely would have been a cameo given his busy schedule and inexperience in front of the camera.

Zombie made his big screen debut in Airheads, although he merely played himself as the frontman of White Zombie. He later took on the uncredited role of Dr. Wolfenstein’s assistant in his directorial debut, House of 1000 Corpses.

David Spade imagines what Chris Farley would be doing now
Image
It’s been over 25 years since the death of Chris Farley, but his presence in comedy remains undeniable. Whether it’s Tommy Boy or his iconic Saturday Night Live sketches that continue to go viral, Farley’s legacy looms large. Now, longtime friend and collaborator David Spade imagines what Farley’s career might have looked like today.

Farley died in 1997 at 33 years old. In the three years prior, his movie credits included Airheads, Billy Madison, Tommy Boy, Black Sheep, and Beverly Hills Ninja. His star was very much still on the rise having left Saturday Night Live in 1995.

David Spade made his name in entertainment alongside Farley at Saturday Night Live and the movies Tommy Boy and Black Sheep. Appearing on Theo Von's podcast, Spade reflected on Farley's career trajectory which was cut tragically short.

“He would have been working with everybody,” Spade said . “I mean even at that point toward the end,...

Adam Sandler’s Happy Gilmore Returning to Movie Theaters This April
Image
Fans of golf and/or hockey and/or Adam Sandler should mark their calendars for April 27th and 30th, as Universal Pictures has announced plans to re-release the seminal 1996 film Happy Gilmore in theaters.

Happy Gilmore was Sandler’s second major starring role following 1995’s Billy Madison. The movie featured the SNL alum as a hotheaded aspiring hockey player who discovers a more lucrative use for his killer slapshot — professional golf — just when he’s in desperate need of cash to save his grandmother’s house.

Directed by Dennis Dugan, Happy Gilmore also stars Christopher McDonald, Julie Bowen, and the late great Carl Weathers. Ben Stiller makes an uncredited appearance as a nursing home orderly who abuses Happy’s grandma (Frances Bay).

Thanks to Universal, tickets are on sale now for the late April screenings on Fandango. While this re-release is happening a year before the movie’s official 30th anniversary,...

"Better Than We Even Imagined": Paul Walter Hauser Shares Positive Update on the Chris Farley Biopic
Image
The much-anticipated biopic chronicling the life of late Saturday Night Live star Chris Farley has taken a substantial step forward, according to recent statements from actor Paul Walter Hauser, who is set to portray Farley. Hauser, renowned for his roles in I, Tonya and Richard Jewell, shared that the project has bagged support from New Line Cinema, and the scripting is at an advanced stage.

Josh Gad will make his directorial debut with this project, which is based on "The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts" by Tom Farley Jr. and Tanner Colby. The screenplay for the biopic is crafted by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, both acclaimed for their work on 500 Days of Summer and The Fault in Our Stars. Whilst speaking on Jake's Takes about his new film The Luckiest Man in America, Hauser shared a positive update on the Farley project, saying:

Michael Richards Followed Up Seinfeld With A Major Television Flop
Image
Prior to his work on the hit 1989 sitcom "Seinfeld," comedian and actor Michael Richards might have been best-known for his amazing performance in the same year's cult comedy "Uhf," playing the hapless, heroic janitor Stanley Spadowski. Others may also recognize him for playing a violent murderer in "Problem Child," or the slapstick butler Fejos in "Transylvania 6-5000." Of course, those who were watching the ABC stand-up series "Fridays" back in 1980, would already have known Richards for his comedy. By the time "Seinfeld" appeared in his path, Richards was already an experienced performer.

"Seinfeld," of course, made Richards a millionaire and a household name. Playing the role of Cosmo Kramer netted him three Emmys, and it led to high-profile roles in studio comedy films like "Airheads," and "Trial and Error." He would remain popular until an infamous 2006 incident at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood, California, wherein he aggressively berated hecklers with racial epithets.

The Best ‘SNL’ Documentaries and Where to Watch Them
Image
It’s impossible to overstate the importance of “Saturday Night Live” on American entertainment. Not only has the show introduced the world to some of the greatest comedic performers of their time, but it’s also been responsible for some of the most iconic sketches and musical performances of the last 50 years. And these documentaries capture the magic of these electric moments.

Given how long “SNL” has been around, it’s surprising how few documentaries about the series there are. What’s even more surprising is how many of those documentaries have been lost in the era of streaming. For example, Kenneth Bowser’s “Saturday Night Live” saga, which included deep dives into the ’80s, ’90s and 2000s, isn’t available to stream anywhere, nor is James Franco’s “Saturday Night”. Even ancillary “SNL” documentaries have been lost to time such as the Andy Kaufman-focused “I’m From Hollywood” or “Who Is Chris Rock?...

Every Ben Affleck & Matt Damon Movie, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Over the years, Hollywood has delivered an abundance of memorable on-screen partnerships -- Bob Hope and Bing Crosby, Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau, Paul Newman and Robert Redford, Katherine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy, and Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, among many others. Over 30 years after their first collaboration, it's probably safe to add Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to the list.

Together, the dynamic duo have produced memorable entertainment aplenty, putting their remarkable chemistry to good use in everything from Kevin Smith's "Dogma" to Affleck's "Air." These guys have teamed up on nearly a dozen projects, even for a brief cameo or minor supporting role. Recently, their partnership has intensified with the aforementioned "Air" and Ridley Scott's "The Last Duel," it's a shame they haven't found more films to work on together over the years, because these boys are wicked smaht.

To celebrate this long-running partnership, we decided...

'Happy Gilmore' Is a Free Streaming Hit Ahead of Sandler's Sequel
Image
Adam Sandler has had one of the most enviable careers in show business since first appearing as Smitty on The Cosby Show in 1987. He has a list of comedy credits a mile long with many hits (and some flops that nonetheless provided him a vacation with his friends), and he's become a respected dramatic actor thanks to films like Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems. On top of that, he's still a beloved stand-up comic who has released material for more than 30 years, including this year's excellent Netflix special, Love You.

However, despite this massive career, you'd be hard-pressed to find a better period than his prolific run of film in the '90s — Airheads (1994), Billy Madison (1995), Happy Gilmore (1996), The Wedding Singer (1998), and The Waterboy (1998), with Little Nicky, Punch-Drunk Love, and Mr. Deeds right around the corner. But it's Happy Gilmore that is often considered his best comedy, and that's the...

Dexter: Original Sin TV Review: A lukewarm prequel to the hit serial killer series
Image
Plot: Miami, 1991. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, young Dexter Morgan must learn to channel his inner darkness as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer with the guidance of his father, Harry.

Review: Fans have loved Dexter since it premiered on Showtime in 2006. Running for eight seasons and ninety-six episodes, the serial killer series ended as the most-watched finale in Showtime history when it aired in 2013. Eight years later, the series was revived as the limited series Dexter: New Blood, which concluded with the death of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan. Now, showrunner Clyde Phillips brings back the character yet again for the prequel Dexter: Original Sin, a ten-episode look back at the formative years of the blood splatter technician for the Miami Police, who also happens to be a serial killer. Boasting a retro-90s vibe and a cast that includes Christian Slater,...

Adam Sandler Teases Eminem Cameo in ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ Says the Sequel Is Eyeing a July 2025 Release on Netflix
Image
On the day that “Happy Gilmore 2” wrapped principal photography, Adam Sandler called in to “The Dan Patrick Show” to discuss the comedy sequel, dishing on some cameos for the film and teasing a potential release date for the Netflix production.

“They’re going to yell at me no matter what, because they asked me to not do any press,” Sandler starts at the beginning of the interview. “But what do you want to say and I’ll tell you if it’s good or bad to talk about.”

“Can I talk about Eminem having a cameo?” asked Patrick. The sports media personality also appears as a small role in the film.

“I’ve known Eminem for a long time and he’s a great guy,” Sandler said, confirming the rapper is involved in the film. Eminem was spotted on the New Jersey set back in November. “He came in and was funny as hell.

Brendan Fraser films: 15 best movies ranked
Image
Brendan Fraser is accustomed to being underestimated Until recently, he was never looked at as that kind of actor – the kind that’s considered a major contender during awards season. That all changed thanks to his seminal Oscar-winning performance in “The Whale” (from director Darren Aronofsky). But the truth is that he’s been a quality actor for a long time, and if his Big Moment wasn’t necessarily inevitable, it was perhaps overdue.

The actor who was born on December 3, 1968 in Indianapolis, Indiana has been best known until now for starring in the “The Mummy” franchise. But Fraser has been a consistent presence on screens big and small for three decades, going back to his days headlining agreeably lowbrow comedies like “Encino Man” from 1992 and “Airheads” in [94. He also had a role in a Best Picture Oscar winner (2004’s “Crash”) and a pair of dramas that drew universal critical praise (“Gods and Monsters” from 1998 and “The Quiet American” from 2002). If Fraser ran into a bit of a slump over the past 15 years or so,...

Brendan Fraser's 10 Most Underrated Movies
Image
Brendan Fraser has had a career with highs and lows, spanning almost three and a half decades from his first performance back in 1991. Fraser is known for his charisma and versatility, able to portray a wide variety of characters in multiple genres, from action-packed thrillers to more serious dramas to zany comedies. His movie star's persona and natural command of the screen helped him become an A-List Hollywood mainstay during the late 1990s.

Though best known more recently for his Oscar-winning leading role performance as Charlie in The Whale, Fraser has forged a career that is littered with underrated gems. Some of Fraser's best films, such as Bedazzled and Airheads, show off his comedic timing and impeccable presence while also delivering the same subtle intensity in more nuanced roles in films like Gods and Monster. Fraser's talent has never been in doubt, and even though some of his filmography never...

One of Brendan Frasers Funniest Performances Is Waiting to Crack You Up on Prime Video
Image
Brendan Fraser rose like a phoenix from the ashes in Darren Aronofsy's wonderful 2022 drama The Whale. Hidden underneath an enormous girth suit was an actor who, for various reasons, had no longer dazzled us with his charm and on-screen presence. Many forget before he became an action star in The Mummy franchise and other dramas, he got his foothold in cinema by hamming it up in 90s comedies like Encino Man, Airheads, and George of the Jungle. In the new movie Brothers, currently streaming on Prime Video, we get a refreshing look at Fraser thoroughly engaging in a film where he allows himself to cut loose with tomfoolery and laughs. It is, without a doubt, the funniest role he has taken on in thirty years. And it is because he fully embraced the insanity of a bombastic and clueless character.

Adam Sandler: ‘He changed his little tune’ on Threatening a Director to Cast Brendan Fraser Before He Was Even Famous
Image
Adam Sandler is best known for his slapstick comedies that do little to satisfy critics, but has, nonetheless, turned it into a brand. The actor has also surprised fans with small detours into dramatic territory with films like Spaceman, Uncut Gems, and Punch-Drunk Love. However, he has managed to balance his brand of comedies.

One of his earliest roles as an SNL alum was the comedy Airheads. Starring along with Brendan Fraser and Steve Buscemi, Sandler was the main draw due to his time on SNL. He reportedly used this clout to make sure the director cast Fraser, though he was a relative unknown at the time and was only known for Encino Man.

Brendan Fraser's Performance in Brothers Is His Funniest in 30 Years
Image
Quick Links Brendan Fraser Has Always Been an Underrated Comedic Actor Brendan Fraser Gives His Best Comedic Performance Yet in Prime's Brothers

Brendan Fraser has had a fascinating and, at times, tragic career trajectory since his first feature film appearance in 1992's Encino Man. Brendan Fraser thrived in the '90s and was looking to become a big star, appearing in fan-pleasing comedies such as Airheads (1994) and action films like The Mummy (1999). However, the 2000s and 2010s saw significant challenges for the actor on both a personal and professional level, with many of his movies falling short of expectations, health issues, and blacklisting after being sexually assaulted (People).

Despite Fraser's problems within the industry and personal struggles, the actor has since seen a resurgence in popularity. This was brought on by his innate skills as a performer, yet his charms as a person have certainly gone a long way...

Pixels Cast, Character & Cameo Guide
Image
The cast of Pixels includes several well-known Hollywood actors, as well as many supporting roles and fun cameos from the world of film, TV, and gaming. Despite not being considered one of Adam Sandler's best-ranked movies, Pixels certainly includes a fun premise. It tells the story of extraterrestrial invaders of Earth who once found a video game-infused time capsule in space and mistook it as a declaration of war. In another Adam Sandler and Kevin James collaboration, the main cast of Pixels use their video game expertise to repel this alien invasion that comes in the form of game characters.

Due to this unique premise, Pixels can almost be counted as a video game adaptation movie. Although it is not based on any one game and does not include a storyline found in a video game like Detective Pikachu, Warcraft, Sonic the Hedgehog, or Mortal Kombat of late, it...

From Bloody Disgusting and Doppelgänger Releasing comes the black metal comedy Heavy Trip, now streaming on Screambox!

We’re proud of this Finnish comedy in the vein of Airheads – as if the band were a young Dethklok from “Metalocalypse”.

It’s about a small-town Finnish heavy metal band that blasts out of the quiet countryside for a big debut gig in Norway. Metal and horror fans are going to find it hysterical. I promise!

Here is a taste of the rave reviews:

Birth.Movies.Death’s Marisa Mirabal gave the horns of approval, “Heavy Trip solidifies its place among other beloved metal genre films by summoning a dark comedy that even those who aren’t familiar with Pantera, Children of Bodom, or Uruguayan grindcore can throw their horns up and enjoy.”

Al Pacino Improvised A Classic Moment In Dog Day Afternoon
Image
There were bigger movie stars than Al Pacino in the 1970s, but between 1971 and 1975, he gave six utterly electric performances that placed him in the American film acting stratosphere alongside the likes of Marlon Brando, Dustin Hoffman, Jack Nicholson, and Robert De Niro. And as brilliant as those guys were, the virtuosity on display in "Panic in Needle Park," "The Godfather," "Scarecrow," "Serpico," "The Godfather Part II" and "Dog Day Afternoon" made a solid case for Pacino as the best of the bunch. He could be seductive, sympathetic, vulnerable, pathetic and terrifying –- sometimes all in the same movie. And his peers were dazzled enough to nominate him for four straight Oscars.

The full range of Pacino's genius can be found in Michael Corleone's journey from principled World War II returnee to brother-killing monster, but for sheer thespian fireworks, you can't top his live-wire portrayal of bank robber Sonny Wortzik...

What Happened to Steve Buscemi?
Image
An old adage reminds us that “character is what you do when no one is watching.” Steve Buscemi, the acclaimed actor, exemplified this maxim on September 11, 2001, when he reported to Ground Zero and worked with his old unit, Engine Company 55, in Manhattan. Without fanfare, press conferences, or public declarations, Buscemi worked alongside other firefighters in the aftermath of the attacks. It was only later, through chance encounters and quiet disclosures, that the public learned of his selfless actions that day. And so, it’s fitting that Buscemi, a man of character, is best known for his work as a character actor – bringing depth, nuance, and complexity to the roles he’s played on screen, just as he brought courage, compassion, and humility to his work on and after that fateful day.

But how was that courage formed? To know that, we must return to where the beginning began, when he was born On His Birthday,...

Criminal Minds Cast & Character Guide
Image
After a long wait, Criminal Minds: Evolution is finally back, with Season 2's premiere episode dropping recently. The Criminal Minds spinoff series shows no signs of stopping, either, as the folks at Paramount+ already renewed the show for a third season. A few notable faces have been missing from the show, but many characters could still return in a future Criminal Minds season.

Criminal Minds is a police procedural drama that aired from 2005 to 2020, with its soft reboot, Evolution, picking up on Paramount+ shortly after the original's end. They both follow the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit as they profile and analyze the worst-of-the-worst criminals, blending the psychology behind behavioral sciences and the action of a police procedural. Criminal Minds has a core group of profilers, with a few coming and going across the seasons, but all notable in their own ways.

A Chris Farley Biopic Is Coming, And The Lead Actor Has Wanted This Part For Ages
Image
Here's a lesson for the kids out there: speak your dreams into existence and maybe, just maybe, they'll actually come true. Tragically, those who follow the comedy scene closely know that it's littered with high-profile examples of beloved talent who ended up burning out and leaving us far too soon. This one, however, might end up circling back to the best of silver linings.

Today's news has to do with Chris Farley, the late, great "Saturday Night Live" actor and comedian who passed away at the age of 33 back in 1997. He may not be as well-known a quantity among younger generations, but their older siblings and parents can certainly fill them in on the prolific, scene-stealing theatrics of the man who rose to prominence through "SNL" and subsequently made audiences cry with laughter in movies such as "Wayne's World" and its sequel, "Coneheads," "Airheads," and even an uncredited role in Adam Sandler's "Billy Madison.

“You’re gonna love this”: Adam Sandler Confirmed to be Working on Happy Gilmore’s Sequel with the First Draft Already Being Complete
Image
Adam Sandler is one of the most prolific comedy actors working in Hollywood right now. The actor has his particular brand of comedy, with his gruff voice, loud humor, and the inclusion of Kevin James in many of his films. Though the actor has proved his acting chops in more dramatic roles such as Punch-Drunk Love and Uncut Gems, his comedic roles are still classics.

One of his breakthrough comedies was the sports comedy Happy Gilmore. The film follows the story of an ice hockey player who competes in a local golf tournament. The film was a huge commercial hit, putting Sandler on the map as a bonafide comedy star. His co-star Christopher McDonald mentioned that Sandler had shown him a copy of a sequel for the film.

Hulu New Releases: December 2023
Image
It’s an interesting month ahead on Hulu, as the streamer rolls out some of the series it’s been keeping in its back pocket for the holiday season.

On December 15, the first season of Such Brave Girls will arrive. The sitcom follows a dysfunctional family – and we mean dysfunctional! – that includes real-life sisters Kat Sadler and Lizzie Davidson. British comedian Sadler has previously written for The News Quiz, Hypothetical, and Mel Giedroyc: Unforgivable, but this is her first big TV project. “Everything we joke about in the show is from a place of lived experience,” she told Funny Women. “I wish I could say this is a heart-warming show about overcoming trauma, but that would be a lie. It’s about three toxic, damaged egomaniacs manipulating the world and each other for their own personal gain, vengeance and glory…just like in Little Women.” Sounds good!

Later in the month,...

Here's The Story Behind Bob Barker's Hilarious Happy Gilmore Cameo
Image
It seemed like he'd be with us forever, but the iconic game show presented and primetime TV mainstay Bob Barker has died at the age of 99. Barker was best known as the long-running host of "The Price is Right" revival, which premiered on CBS in 1972. Barker told contestants to "Come on down!" and ushered them through the fabulous Showcase Showdown innumerable times during his tenure as host through 2007. But even before those three-plus decades of television excellence, Barker had already hosted the popular game show "Truth or Consequences" for 21 years, between 1956 and 1975.

Barker is perhaps the most prolific game show presenter in American broadcast history, but his eminence extended beyond daytime TV. His trademark combination of unflappable reliability, chivalrous old-school charm, and slight underbelly of mischievous caddishness lent itself to a remarkable ability to send up his own persona in cameo roles in films and scripted television series. Barker appeared...

The Dirt: What Netflix Gets Right About The True Story (As Told By Mötley Crüe)
Image
Adapting the biography of a singular figure is hard enough, but how do you adapt the autobiography of a band? Bassist Nikki Sixx, guitarist Mick Mars, drummer Tommy Lee, and Vince Neil joined forces to make Mötley Crüe, one of the most successful bands of the 1980s and well-documented hedonist troublemakers.

In 2001, all four members of the band along with Neil Strauss released an autobiography called "The Dirt," describing the group as "the world's most notorious rock band." The book shot to the top 10 on the New York Times Best Seller list and stayed there for 10 weeks. On a personal note, I used the book as the subject of my own freshman year biography project book report in 2004, when I showed up to school dressed like Nikki Sixx and delivered my presentation in full character ... much to my teacher's chagrin.

In 2019, Netflix adapted "The Dirt" with "Jackass" creator and director Jeff Tremaine at the helm,...

10 Adam Sandler Movies That Bombed At The Box Office (& Why They Failed)
Image
Adam Sandler is one of the highest-grossing actors in Hollywood, but he’s also had his fair share of box office bombs throughout his career. Well before Netflix offered him a fair chunk of change to trade theatrical releases for streaming exclusives, Sandler starred in huge box office hits, including Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, The Waterboy, The Wedding Singer, Big Daddy, Grown Ups, and Just Go with It. Even when Sandler’s films are panned by critics, they usually resonate with audiences, though that doesn't always hold true.

Some of Sandler’s box office bombs, such as Spanglish and The Cobbler, faced steep competition from other releases. A few of his darker dramas, namely Funny People and Reign Over Me, struggled to attract a wide audience. At other times, Sandler's flops were misses because of inflated budgets. As films like Punch-Drunk Love and Men, Women & Children prove, even some of...

Adam Sandler Roots for Real-Life Happy Gilmore
Image
Murder Mystery star Adam Sandler sent his congratulations to a talented young golfer, Happy Gilmore, who shares the same name as his character in the 1996 comedy film.

After real-life Happy Gilmore announced that he has officially committed to Ball State University for his academic and golf career, Sandler took to Twitter to express his support to the high school senior. Gilmore, whose actual name is Landon, received the nickname "Happy" when he began playing in golf tournaments at a young age. Sandler’s Happy Gilmore movie is one of his classic comedies from the 1990s, which helped establish his status as a leading man.

14 Best Brendan Fraser Movies Ranked
Image
The best Brendan Fraser movies prove that the actor already had a career to be proud of long before his Oscar-winning role in The Whale. Fraser was always seen as one of the most likable actors in Hollywood whose charm and charisma onscreen led to him becoming a star in the 1990s before gradually falling out of favor among the big movie projects. Yet through it all, Brendan Fraser's movies kept reminding audiences of the incredible versatility the actor has, and it was no surprise that he eventually found the right project to bring him back into the spotlight.

Fraser's rise to fame began with broad comedies like Encino Man and Blast From the Past. However, he also showed off his dramatic chops in intense and acclaimed dramas like School Ties and Gods and Monsters. He also became a blockbuster action star thanks to the smash hit The Mummy. Throughout all these movies and beyond,...

The 12 Most Underrated Adam Sandler Movies
Image
While Adam Sandler is widely thought to make the worst movies ever, there are plenty of underrated Adam Sandler movies out there to enjoy. The comedian has been the poster boy for the Razzie Awards, and his work is slated by critics every time he shows his face on the screen. However, the problem with most of his films is that they suffer from weak scripts, leading to his films' success being wholly character-driven. Sandler himself is talented, and his movies like Hustle and Uncut Gems prove Adam Sandler is underrated as an actor in less-outright-comedic roles.

It's been proven through various underrated Adam Sandler movies that when he really applies himself and digs deep into the nuances of his character that he can deliver a performance that is truly special. Adam Sandler movies like Bulletproof or Click are great films in their own right, even if they tend not...

Bob Odenkirk Pays Tribute To SNL Legend Chris Farley With Touching Story
Image
Bob Odenkirk paid tribute to Saturday Night Live legend Chris Farley with a touching story about their time working together. Farley was first known for his comedic stylings for Chicago's Second City Theater and later as a cast member on SNL from 1990 to 1995, which pushed him into superstardom. The comedian soon starred in movies such as Airheads, Tommy Boy, and Beverley Hills Ninja before passing away from a drug overdose in 1997.

While eating hot wings and chatting with host Sean Evans on Hot Ones, Odenkirk began reminiscing about seeing Farley's comedic potential from the first time they met on Second City. Odenkirk, who previously criticized one of Farley's most famous SNL sketches for reaffirming the comedian's negative beliefs about himself and his body image, also said that the most fun he's had in show business was working with Farley on comedy sketches at Second City. Brendan Fraser Rocked Out at His Son's Show the Night After the Oscars
Image
Academy Award-winner Brendan Fraser kept the party going a full day after the 2023 Oscars on March 12. Solidifying his status as a cool dad, "The Whale" star - who attended the award show with his two children and his girlfriend Jeanne Moore - showed up to support his guitarist son, Leland Fraser, at the 16-year-old's concert the night after the film ceremony.

During the show, held at the Whisky a Go Go in Hollywood, Leland hopped up on stage to jam with '80s cover band Fast Times. "Wild night at The Whiskey," he captioned a clip of himself shredding on guitar. DJ Ashba, who performed the same night, hopped in the comments section to show his support for the young musician. "Yo bro! You killed it last night!" he wrote.

In photos from the event shared on Fast Times's Instagram account, Brendan threw up a pair of devil horns while hanging out with the band.

Brendan Fraser Deserves The World, But The Whale Deserved Nothing
Image
Like most people, I have a great reverence for Brendan Fraser. I have no qualms admitting "Encino Man" is one of my earliest comfort films, as is "Airheads," and I'm a staunch defender of his performance in Henry Selick's "Monkeybone." Yes, I too would also "honk if I'd rather be watching the 1999 cinematic masterpiece 'The Mummy' starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz," upon seeing the viral SuperYaki bumper sticker in the wild, but I can also sing the dolphin song from "Bedazzled" by heart. Brendan Fraser is a performer I have loved for so long I cannot remember when he wasn't one of my favorite actors. Knowing that this multi-faceted performer has won the Oscar for Best Actor feels like something worth celebrating with the same intensity as watching the underdog team win the Super Bowl, but Fraser's win comes wrapped in the violent, grotesque embrace of Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale.

Brendan Fraser Has Emotional Response To Best Actor Oscar Win
Image
Brendan Fraser delivered an emotional acceptance speech in response to his Oscar win for his performance in The Whale. Based on the stage play of the same name, the critically acclaimed indie features Fraser in the role of a morbidly obese English professor who seeks to reconnect with his estranged daughter (played by Stranger Things’ Sadie Sink). Directed by Darren Aronofsky, The Whale debuted at last year’s Venice Film Festival, where it received a six-minute-long standing ovation.

Following an impressive performance during the recent awards season, Fraser walked away with the Oscar for Best Actor at this year’s 95th Academy Awards (via ABC7).

Beating out fellow nominees Austin Butler, Colin Farrell, Paul Mescal and Bill Nighy, the 54-year-old actor took to the stage to deliver an emotion-filled response to his win. Check out his transcribed comments below (via Variety):

Santa Barbara Film Fest: Brendan Fraser Says He “Had to Be All In” to Pull Off His Performance in ‘The Whale’
Image
“It’s a film that always had the intention to change hearts and minds,” Brendan Fraser said of The Whale, for which he is nominated for the best actor Oscar, ahead of receiving the Santa Barbara International Film Festival’s American Riviera Award on Tuesday night.

The popular star, who was greeted with huge applause by the Santa Barbarians who packed the historic Arlington Theater, discussed his life and career with Deadline‘s Pete Hammond, who described the actor’s recent resurgence, after several years out of the spotlight that he had occupied since the early 1990s, as “the Brenaissance.”

Coming from an “itinerate family” that spent considerable time in Europe, Fraser said that seeing plays in London as a kid hooked him on the idea of becoming an actor. He studied at a conservatory in Seattle before heading to L.A. in 1991, where he was asked by Sherry Lansing...

Brendan Fraser Leaned On A Mentor's Words To Reluctantly Accept Encino Man
Image
With the nominations for the 95th Academy Awards upon us, comeback kid Brendan Fraser is poised to win an Oscar for his heartbreaking, gut-wrenching performance in Darren Aronofsky's "The Whale" (read /Film's spot on review of the film here). If Fraser, famous for his swashbuckling days as Rick O'Connell in "The Mummy" franchise and off-the-wall comedies like "Airheads," wasn't ever considered a serious dramatic actor, he is now. Appearing as a guest on the "Saturday Night Live" deep dive podcast "Fly on the Wall" hosted by Dana Carvey and David Spade, Fraser opened up about his early days in the business when he was determined to be taken seriously as a performer.

Having just enjoyed some notoriety for his breakout role in "School Ties" (a film about a football star forced to confront anti-Semitism at a 1950s prep school), Fraser was trying to decide if playing a blockhead caveman...

The 12 Best Chris Farley SNL Sketches, Ranked
Image
Chris Farley may have died too soon -- he was only 33 years old when he passed away on December 18, 1997 from a drug overdose and heart disease -- but he left us a great comedy legacy. Born in Madison, Wisconsin on February 15, 1964, Farley developed a reputation from a young age as someone who loved to entertain those around him. Entertainment was something that he pursued later in his education, as he studied theater in college, along with communications. He further developed his comedy chops with numerous performing troupes, including the Second City theater, where he learned from improv instructor Del Close, the teacher of such comedy icons as Dan Aykroyd, John Candy, and John and James Belushi.

It wasn't long before Farley got his first big break. Lorne Michaels, the producer and co-creator of "Saturday Night Live," took notice of his talent and cast him on the show in 1990. Farley was...

One Saturday Night Live Sketch Convinced Mike Myers That Chris Farley Was Destined For Stardom
Image
If you're a fan of the late comedian Chris Farley, you've most likely seen his famous "Saturday Night Live" sketch "Chippendales Audition." It first aired on October 27, 1990, and was the first to feature Farley in a lead role. It's probably his most famous sketch, though it's not without controversy.

In the scene, host Patrick Swayze ("Dirty Dancing") plays Adrian and Farley plays Barney, two dancers auditioning to become part of the famous Chippendales dancers. Jan Hooks ("3rd Rock from the Sun"), Kevin Nealon ("Weeds"), and Mike Myers are there to judge them as they dance to "Working for the Weekend" by Loverboy. The two of them dance together on the stage, with Swayze doing all the expert moves you'd expect and Farley honestly working just as hard. He was one of the kings of physical comedy, after all. Once the dancers finish their routines, they wait backstage and give each other pep talks.

‘Awards Chatter’ Podcast — Adam Sandler (‘Hustle’)
Image
It’s somewhat hard to believe, but Adam Sandler — the guest on this edition of The Hollywood Reporter’s Awards Chatter podcast, which was recorded in late 2022 in front of an audience at the Newport Beach Film Festival, where Sandler received the fest’s performance of the year award — has been a star for more than 30 years now.

Hired as a writer on Saturday Night Live in 1990, the Brooklyn-born comedian soon began appearing in his own sketches and won over audiences with his madcap man-child characters. He then transitioned to a film career, co-writing and starring in movies about lovable losers who win the day, like 1995’s Billy Madison, 1996’s Happy Gilmore and 1998’s The Wedding Singer and The Waterboy.

While Sandler, now 56, has continued to consistently pump out unabashedly goofy comedies to which audiences have flocked, he has also, with increasing frequency, taken aback critics by deploying serious acting...
