More than a little tiresome
Leofwine_draca18 November 2021
One of Wong Jing's lesser - read sillier - comedies. Andy Lau is the nominal star and plays it straight for the most part, but the majority of the screen time seems to be given over to Tony Leung goofing off and giving a way OTT performance that quickly outstays its welcome. It's part gambling movie, part prison drama, but mostly just a series of random vignettes with the usual off-colour lowbrow humour and inevitable rape jokes. Some good cast members show up here (particularly Johnny Wang Lung Wei), but overall I found it more than a little tiresome.

An over-the-top film from Wong Jing!

The Sting II (1993) was another one of the many films Wong Jing worked on during the early to mid 90's. This is just as bizarre, funny and action packed as his other films. Instead of parodying Hollywood productions, Wong Jing goes after his Hong Kong colleages in this one. No one is safe in this one! Andy Lau and Christy Chung co-star as a pair of swindlers. During one of their scams they happen to cheat the wrong man. Very upset he goes after Andy Lau and forces him to participate in a bizarre scheme. Lau has to go inside a prison and find a convict who holds the key to getting this nasty individual off his back. To complicate things further, Lau makes enemies with Tony Leung Ka-Fai, a wannbe playboy/gambler who eventually has to join forces to finish his "job". Extremely weird and funny. The rest of the movie is so out there it has to be seen to be believed.

Highly recommended.

Classic Wong Jing!

A+

For some reason this movies is called The Sting II on the V.C.D. Wong Jing also continues his obession with the video game "Streetfighter II".
