Sex & Nudity

  • None, although some believe that the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Cavalier, who dance the second act Pas de Deux, are supposed to be in love. The roles of Marie and the Nutcracker/ Prince are played by children, and in this version, they never even dance together. Marie wears a veil in the second act that looks like a bridal veil, but there is no indication at all that she and the Prince are getting married, or that they are even in love, just good friends.
  • A female belly dancer wearing a costume with a bare midriff performs the "Arabian Dance", but that is as far as this film goes regarding nudity. The dance is not performed in an especially sensual way, so it's fine for children.

Violence & Gore

  • None, unless you think the Battle with the Mice is violent.

Profanity

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • None. The Balanchine version is probably the most child-friendly "Nutcracker" that has ever been staged, and there are many children in it.
