NEW YORK -- The Howl! Film Festival of East Village Arts will showcase a range of politically charged documentaries Aug. 18-24 in response to New York City's hosting of the 2004 Republican National Convention. The second annual event -- which bills itself as a celebration of the East Village's role as "the cradle of American counterculture" -- will kick off with a special screening of Jerry Aronson's 1973 biopic The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg, followed by the upcoming Ramones rock docu End of the Century. The fest takes place at Manhattan's Two Boots Pioneer Theater, Loews Cinema Village and Anthology Film Archives.
