"Making it to the top is not worth your life. It's just... not worth it." Blue Harbor Ent. has revealed a teaser trailer for an intriguing new horror film called The Sound, made by filmmaker Brendan Devane. Has there been a rock climbing horror movie before (not counting Cliffhanger which is action)? A group of climbers embarks on a dangerous climb that has been off-limits for years. What begins as an audacious expedition transforms into a battle for survival against a force that toys with them. During their ascent, they come face to face with a malevolent force that quickly turns their expedition into a harrowing battle for survival. This poster hints at the supernatural force hanging over the rock wall. And they even have some rock music, too. Actor William Fichtner is in the cast with Marc Hills, Jocelyn Hudon, David Clennon, Christina Kirkman, plus special guests Kyle Gass and real climber Alex Honnold.

Exclusive: Netflix has acquired Devil’s Rope, an original spec by Melanie Toast, to be produced by Toby Jaffe.
Plot details are under wraps, though sources described the project as a female-led thriller set in rural Texas. Toast and Jaffe reunite here following their work together on the upcoming Cliffhanger reboot helmed by Carry-On‘s Jaume Collet-Serra.
Toast’s Cliffhanger is a reimagining of the 1993 action classic starring Sylvester Stallone. Pierce Brosnan stars as seasoned mountaineer Ray Cooper, who operates a luxury chalet in the Dolomites with daughter Sydney. During a weekend trip with a billionaire’s son, the pair are targeted by a gang of kidnappers. Ray’s other daughter Naomi (Lily James), still haunted by a past climbing accident, witnesses the attack and escapes, then going about working to save her family.

Sylvester Stallone isn’t called a legend just for fun. He’s indeed one of the greatest action stars of all time, with films like Rambo and Rocky franchises under his belt. But did you know that one of his 1993 films made history for a crazy and costly stunt? Like, the film actually made it into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Well, turns out, Sylvester Stallone’s Cliffhanger had one of the coolest, riskiest, and most expensive aerial stunts ever performed. To be specific, we’re talking about a million-dollar price tag for just one stunt. So, eventually, the legendary stuntman Simon Crane took home more than an estimated amount of $1M from Cliffhanger‘s entire budget of $70M.

Renny Harlin amped up the shark attack genre with the medically altered Great Whites in Deep Blue Sea. Now, the veteran action director behind such films as Die Hard 2, Cliffhanger and the immensely underrated The Long Kiss Goodnight, will be returning to killer oceanic creatures with killer whales in the survival thriller Black Tides. Deadline reports on the project that is now set to star John Travolta. The creature feature is written by Chris Sparling (Buried) and Ángel Agudo (Prime Video’s Apocalypse Z) and will be produced by Adrián Guerra and Nuria Valls’s Nostromo Pictures (Buried).
The film will tell the story of Rebecca, who reunites with her estranged father, Bill, in sunny Málaga expecting a healing family trip with her young son, Sebastian. Fred & Rose West: A British Horror Story unfolds over three tight episodes—“Fred,” “Rose” and “Trial”—each peeling back layers of one of Britain’s most notorious crime sprees. Episode one follows the grisly excavation at 25 Cromwell Street and the chilling audio of Fred West himself, calmly guiding detectives to the bodies he hid beneath his patio. Episode two shifts focus to Rose, as bugged conversations and expert testimony probe the limits of her denial. The final instalment immerses us in the courtroom drama that sealed Rose’s fate while Fred, having taken his own life, looms spectrally between the lines of the transcript.

In 1992, the now acclaimed director Roland Emmerich, alongside action superstars Jean Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren, created Universal Soldier. A movie that was maybe under-appreciated in the golden age of action films but nonetheless a highlight in all of their careers. Regardless, financial issues loomed for the studio that created it. This resulted in rights being sold and two mostly horrendous television movies being released on Showtime starring Gary Busey and Burt Reynolds. Seven years later, in 1999, the franchise would attempt its big screen comeback with the legendary Jean Claude Van Damme desperate for a career win on a project no director seemed willing to touch. Would the result be a resurrection of not only the franchise but its leading man’s once unstoppable career? Or one of the final nails in the coffin of both of their big screen futures? This is What Happened to Universal Soldier: The Return.

A Sylvester Stallone Sci-Fi Flop Nearly Became An Action-Horror Movie Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger

It took a long time for Sylvester Stallone to play a comic book hero. The man became an instant star with his self-written "Rocky" in 1976 and spent the following decade and a half becoming one of Hollywood's pre-eminent action heroes, alongside his longtime rival Arnold Schwarzenegger. Sly and Schwarzenegger were the epitome of the ultra-masculine action heroes we associate with the '80s, but throughout that entire decade and the first half of the '90s, neither played a superhero on-screen.
Schwarzenegger wouldn't end up taking the comic book movie plunge until 1997, when he was guilted into playing Mr. Freeze in the historic blunder that was "Batman & Robin." But Sly actually made his superhero debut prior to that, starring as the titular judge in 1995's "Judge Dredd," the most nonsensical science fiction movie to predict our terrifying present. Following what was the first of several career lows in the late-'80s and early-'90s,...

“They want crap,” Carolco executive Peter Hoffman once told the Los Angeles Times, “Every time people tell you they don’t, it’s bull. They want crap.” Hoffman was reflecting on the lackluster audience response to the Oscar-nominated Music Box (1989), while sci-fi action blockbusters such as Total Recall (1990) were filling coffers like mad.
Long before independent production houses like Skydance, A24, and Blumhouse were making waves alongside the major studios, Carolco made its name in Hollywood as a backer of lavish action films that included the Rambo series, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Cliffhanger (1993). Carolco’s rise and fall was as epic as one of their blockbuster action films.
It was known as “The Carolco Premium.” While rival indies TriStar and Orion had their share of respectable projects, Carolco led a rise of independent studios by creating and maintaining a blockbuster brand for making the most extravagant actions films of the era.

If you've paid any kind of attention to Sylvester Stallone's film career for any amount of time, you know he's made some absolutely terrible movies. To be fair, some were out of necessity. Prior to becoming a big screen superstar in 1976 with "Rocky," a briefly homeless Stallone starred in a quickie pornographic romance called "The Party at Kitty and Stud's" (which was rereleased post-stardom as "The Italian Stallion"). Around the same time, he also appeared in the low-budget terrorism thriller "No Place to Hide," which was recut as a comedy and dumped into video stores in 1990 with the title "A Man Called... Rainbo."
For the most part, however, Stallone has been the author of his own cinematic misery. After the wild critical and commercial success of "Rocky", the star went on a decade-plus tear during which he could get anything greenlit. At first, he put his newfound box office...

John Lithgow is one of those rare actors who can make you laugh, cry, and sleep with the lights on, and sometimes, he does it all in the same role. Many of us know him as the Trinity Killer from Dexter, where he seemed bone-deep terrifying.
John Lithgow in Dexter | Showtime Networks
The role permanently altered how people saw him, but it’s also because they don’t know that he’s had a masterclass of a career. Now, he’s stepping into the role of Albus Dumbledore in HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we can’t wait to see his iteration of the character.

As HBO prepares to cast a spell over audiences with its Harry Potter series, discourse about who should play iconic characters in the episodic presentation is alive and well. While some believe the series should remain faithful to the novels, others feel another version of J.K. Rowling’s story needs new magic. While speaking with Variety recently, Jason Isaacs, who plays Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter film series, revealed who he wants to play the malevolent character for the upcoming series. Without hesitation, Isaacs said he wants legendary actress Meryl Streep to try Lucius Malfoy’s cape and cane on for size.
“Meryl Streep. She can do anything, that woman. There’s literally no limit to what she can do,” Isaacs told Variety.
Casting Meryl Streep as Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry Potter villain Draco Malfoy in the books and films, could prove challenging. The casting involves a gender swap for the character,...

Preparations for the Winter Olympics in Milan and Cortina, Italy are well underway — even though the Games themselves don’t start until February 2026.
Situated in an alpine valley in the Dolomites, Cortina will host the bobsled, luge, skeleton, women’s alpine skiing and curling events. Pre-fabricated mobile homes that will host up to 1,400 people in an Athletes’ Village are being put in place this month in Cortina. The mobile homes will also be used for athletes during the Paralympics.
Also known as Cortina d’Ampezzo, the town was scheduled to host the 1944 Winter Olympics, but cold not because of World War II. It did host the Games in 1956. The picturesque village served as the setting for several films, including The Pink Panther (1963), For Your Eyes Only (1981) and Cliffhanger (1993).
A six-hour train ride to the southwest, Milan will host ice hockey, figure skating, short track events, speed skating and the Opening Ceremony.

Admit it; we’ll be reeling from that season finale for a long time.

We’ve repeatedly discussed how this is a different type of medical drama. It’s not traditional in the least, making it compelling...

Sylvester Stallone's career has been so fascinatingly varied. The man who wrote one of the greatest movies of the 20th century in "Rocky" has always had the preternatural self-belief required to succeed and has demonstrated as much across the past five decades of his career. Just like the Italian Stallion himself, Stallone always manages to pick himself up just when it seems as if he's down for the count. He did it in the early '90s with "Cliffhanger" and he did it in the early 2000s with "Rocky Balboa," the film which saved the "Rocky" franchise and Stallone himself from obscurity.
But in order to rise from the ashes, he had to descend in the first place, and there have been some remarkable descents in Sly's career. Even before he experienced a true nadir, Stallone was responsible for directing a critical flop that remains one of only three...

John Lithgow is no stranger to playing villains. The actor has played a number of standout roles over the course of his fifty-plus-year career, particularly excelling and gaining notoriety for his memorable supporting characters. In addition to providing the voice of the villainous Lord Farquad in Shrek (2001), Lithgow played villain characters in Ricochet (1991), Bombshell (2019), Blow Out (1981), Raising Cane (1992), and the Dexter TV show. He also appeared as a larger-than-life villain in a 1993 movie starring Sylvester Stallone.
Stallone has been a fixture of the action genre for decades, getting his start with Rocky in 1976 and continuing to play the iconic boxer in a handful of sequels. He's also known for playing tortured veteran Rambo, of course, a role that dates back to 1982's First Blood. Since then, Stallone has appeared in action movies like Cobra (1986), Demolition Man (1993), Judge Dredd (1995), The Expendables (2014), Bullet to the Head (2012) and Escape Plan (2013). Ask any stunt person, and they'll tell you: the ability to sell taking a punch is just as important, and perhaps more so, than credibly throwing one. Ask any editor or sound designer, and they'll corroborate this and then some. If you've ever watched raw dailies from an action movie, you'll note how oddly weightless a lot of fight sequences become when they're robbed of their rhythm and the satisfying Thwam sound of their body blows. All this is to say that action in cinema is so incredibly dependent on selling the total effect of the violence, even more than show-stopping stunts and feats of strength and dexterity. Since it's all in the timing, it's no wonder that so many great action directors either come from or are adept at comedy -- from Buster Keaton to Jackie Chan.

There aren’t many actors who can ricochet quite like John Lithgow. He’s a gifted comedian, warm and familial, in films like “Harry and the Hendersons,” and a steely supervillain matching Sylvester Stallone blow for blow in “Cliffhanger.” He’s a Machiavellian schemer, completely unknowable, in a film like “Conclave,” and he also madcaps his way through a wacky high-concept sitcom in “3rd Rock from the Sun.”
If there’s a unifying factor in most of Lithgow’s performances it’s his almost uncomfortable intensity. When he’s the victim, he’s the saddest victim. When he’s the bad guy, he’s the meanest bad guy. When he’s given carte blanche to go mad with power, he’s Dave Crealy in “The Rule of Jenny Penn,” which may very well be his creepiest performance since Brian De Palma’s “Raising Cain” — and that’s saying something.

Harrison Ford's first feature film was an uncredited role as a bellhop in the 1966 James Coburn crime thriller "Dead Heat on a Merry-Go-Round." He was 24. It's wild to think that Ford, when he was 80, also starred in the 2023 blockbuster "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," which was set in 1969. The elderly Indiana Jones, if he was a movie fan, could have seen the film debut of Harrison Ford.
Sylvester Stallone's first feature film came in 1969, when he was 23. He played an uncredited extra in a film called "The Square Root." Indeed, for the first three years of his career, Stallone mostly played uncredited roles, turning up in films like "What's Up, Doc?," "Bananas," and "Klute." Stallone doesn't have a career wraparound like Ford's above, but he was recently the subject of "Sly," a documentary about his career.

After a dismal 1990s that greatly diminished his stature as one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood, Sylvester Stallone kicked off the 2000s with a pair of box office disappointments in "Get Carter" and "Driven." Though the latter reunited him with his "Cliffhanger" director Renny Harlin, moviegoers had very little interest in a film about Cart racing. With his two most valuable franchises, "Rocky" and "Rambo," mothballed due to lack of commercial interest, his once reliable international popularity on the wane, and a finished movie ("D-Tox") gathering dust on the shelf due to horrid test screening scores, Stallone had to humble himself and make a movie that didn't lose tens of millions of dollars for its investors. This meant working small and not demanding a bank-breaking payday.

Here’s a weird fact: Shortly before the tragic events of 9/11, Jackie Chan was in pre-production on an action movie called “Nosebleed,” in which he would have played a window washer fighting terrorists at the World Trade Center. That movie obviously never got made, but the concept has apparently been floating around in the ether, because nearly 25 years later we’ve got “Cleaner,” a “Die Hard” knockoff starring Daisy Ridley as a window washer fighting terrorists on a different skyscraper.
As “Die Hard” knockoffs go, it could be worse.
“Die Hard” knockoffs are their own subgenre, in case you hadn’t noticed, and there sure are a lot of them. The formula is simple: Bad guys take over a specific location, a good guy is trapped in that location with them, and the good guy takes down those bad guys one at a time. In the years that followed John McTiernan...

David Leitch may be in talks to direct Ocean’s 14 for Warner Bros, as we confirmed just last month. But we’re told that will not be his next project, as he’s currently moving quickly toward production on a new bank heist action flick at Amazon.
The film’s title and plot details are being kept under wraps. Leitch will work from a hot script by Mark Bianculli. Kelly McCormick and Leitch will produce under their 87North banner, alongside Imagine Entertainment’s Brian Grazer, Jeb Brody and Allan Mandelbaum, with Bianculli serving as executive producer of the project.

Austria can celebrate a huge success as a filming location thanks in large part to attractive funding programs that have lured major international productions to the country, among them Guy Ritchie’s “Fountain of Youth” and Jaume Collet-Serra’s “Cliffhanger” reboot, while also boasting a strong lineup of local works at this year’s Berlin Film Festival.
Introduced in 2023, the incentives, known as Fisa Plus and ÖFI Plus, can cover as much as 60% of costs for international film productions.
In addition to magnificent natural landscapes, medieval towns and striking cities, a new state-of-the-art studio complex in Vienna now offers a comprehensive range of services to support productions in the Austrian capital.
“Since the launch of the Fisa Plus funding program two years ago, Austria has emerged as a strong player in the film industry,” says Austrian Film commissioner Nina-Anica Keidies.

By now the "'Die Hard' on a"-style movie is basically its own genre. John McTiernan's legendary 1988 actioner spawned more imitators than perhaps any movie in Hollywood history. Many action fans know, for instance, that "Speed" is essentially "Die Hard on a bus," and its follow-up, "Speed 2: Cruise Control," literally was supposed to be "Die Hard 3" before its script was rejected in favor of the "Die Hard with a Vengeance" screenplay. "Cliffhanger" is "Die Hard" on a mountain, "Air Force One" is "Die Hard" on a plane. Heck, even today we're seeing the movie reproduced in the form of Netflix thriller "Carry-On," a Christmas action movie which is essentially just "Die Hard 2" with Taron Edgerton and Jason Bateman.
While many of these imitators are excellent action movies in their own right, the "Die Hard" formula doesn't always produce such quality. Take "Aftermath," a new movie...

Jaume Collet-Serra is keeping the momentum going after the success of his Netflix thriller Carry-On. The filmmaker, known for House of Wax, Orphan, and The Shallows, has lined up his next project—Play Dead, a survival thriller.
Details about the plot remain secret, but sources describe Play Dead as a mix between Don’t Breathe and 1917. Don’t Breathe, directed by Fede Alvarez, is a tense home invasion horror, while 1917, helmed by Sam Mendes, is a gripping war film. This description suggests Play Dead may combine elements of both, possibly blending high-stakes survival with a wartime setting. However, that remains speculation for now.
The screenplay was written by Peter Stanley-Ward and Natalie Conway. The film is being produced by Nocturnal, BoulderLight Pictures, Bad Grey, and Sam Raimi’s Ghost House Pictures.

The massively underrated Renny Harlin/Shane Black action film with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson is getting a well-deserved upgrade. The Long Kiss Goodnight is also a notable movie that Samuel L. Jackson says he would love to do a sequel for. However, as fun as it is, the Christmas action film can always stand strongly on its own without the concern of a follow-up that misguidedly taints it. However, hopefully the film will find a new audience as Blu-ray.com is now reporting that The Long Kiss Goodnight is getting a 4K Ultra-hd release, courtesy of Arrow Video. And if you’re a fan of the film, it’s Christmas time for you, because you’re getting all the goodies to come with it.

Marvel Games is in a pretty interesting position right now. While it enjoyed the unprecedented highs reached by the likes of Marvel's Spider-Man 2 and Marvel Rivals, it also endured the low sales of Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy and Marvel's Midnight Suns. However, it's hard to deny the track record and reputation of the division were heavily hurt by the failure of one specific title: Marvel's Avengers.
Just like we once dreamed of the day Earth's Mightiest Heroes would assemble on the big screen, fans were eager to see them join forces in the video game world as well. Unfortunately, what should've been a pretty memorable experience was riddled with live service mechanics, battle passes, life-less maps, and a lack of gameplay variety. As simple as that, Square Enix's Marvel's Avengers was left to be forgotten right next to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

After making waves this holiday season with the wildly thrilling Carry-On, marking one of Netflix’s most-watched movies ever, Jaume Collet-Serra is back with two features in 2025. Before his Cliffhanger reboot later this year, he’s returning to his first full-blown horror feature since his 2009 breakout Orphan. The Woman in the Yard, which reteams him with Danielle Deadwyler, is arriving on March 28 in theaters and now the first trailer has arrived from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures.
Here’s the synopsis: “A lone, spectral woman shrouded entirely in black appears on a family’s front lawn without explanation and warns them “today’s the day.” Where did she come from? What does she want? When will she leave? Only The Woman in the Yard knows. Deadwyler stars as Ramona, a woman crippled by grief after she survives a car accident that takes her husband (Russell Hornsby). Seriously injured, Ramona now...

If a mysterious woman covered in black appears in your front yard, it's probably best not to let her in. That's what Danielle Deadwyler is dealing with in Blumhouse's The Woman in the Yard, which returns director Jaume-Collet-Serra to the world of horror after a series of (mostly) successful action films including Netflix's latest hit, Carry-On. Judging from this first trailer, it appears that Collet-Serra has not lost his horror touch.
The first trailer suggests that the title of the film is very much on the nose. Not a lot is revealed in terms of plot, but a woman shrouded in black appears on a family's front lawn without any rhyme or reason and issues a direct warning: "today is the day." Honestly, it's the best kind of horror trailer as it sets up an eerie atmosphere and offers up enough mystery to intrigue moviegoers. Where did the woman in the yard come from?...

Liam Neeson has starred in many action films in his illustrious career. In 2014, he starred in Non-Stop, which was a major commercial hit, and the film is now finding success on Netflix, too.
The week between Dec. 30 and Jan. 6 came with several new films on Netflix, and Non-Stop was among them, as well as Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 1 and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. At this point, Paramount must be running out of space for any more titles from television show-making machine Taylor Sheridan. While "Yellowstone" might have drawn to a close, he still has the spin-offs lined up along with the likes of standalone titles, "Landman," "Lioness," "Tulsa King," and "Mayor of Kingstown" nicely ticking along as well. Of course, television isn't the only space Sheridan has occupied. Some of his best stories have been on the big screen instead of the small.
Before we even knew who John Dutton was and what it meant to be "taken to the train station," Taylor Sheridan was making a name for himself writing movies before really having a go at directing them. As with his television output, there have been some weak misses and some massive hits among the movies, and some you might be surprised he even played a part in helping create. Here's...
