This is pretty rarely seen Hong Kong horror classic but I was expecting a little different film when I started to watch this. I had read that this is "sadistic horror cinema" so I was expecting some mentally disturbing film which I know HK films can be. I don't mean gore but some extremely intense and disturbing moments.
The plot concerns a nice lady who has pretty bad thoughts about what will happen later that day and unfortunately something WILL happen. A man knocks the door and the nightmare begins - Hong Kong style.
The film is not sadistic even though there is little violence and some scary and harrowing moments. I can't say I didn't like it but I prefer to films which really stay in your mind and to do that there does not have to be over the top violence or effects at all. The Untold Story would've been pretty horrific without all that gore and splatter. But back to Insanity, couple of scenes are extremely fast paced and edited with talent so there are no dull moments during this film's short running time.
Simon Yam is again great as sicko psycho and other characters are also great and believable so this is OK Hong Kong horror but definitely not among the greatest achievements from there. Hong Kong fanatics will like this (at least some of them) but if you only like mainstream, forget this.
For last words, although I was expecting something else, I'm not disappointed. This could've been much better but it is little above mediocre now. And the end scene is again something you'll not likely to forget, and only HK filmmakers can invent something like that!
Recommended if HK horror/sicko cinema is your cup of tea. 7 out of 10.
