“It is with great sadness we are sharing with you that, following her recent diagnosis with cancer, the star of stage and screen Haydn Gwynne died in hospital in the small hours of Friday 20 October, surrounded by her beloved sons, close family and friends,” her agent said in a statement. “We would like to thank the staff and teams at the Royal Marsden and Brompton Hospitals for their wonderful care over the last few weeks.”
Gwynne made her TV breakthrough in the late 1980s with the drama “Nice Work” before going on to star in other British series including “Peak Practice,” “Merseybeat” and BBC series “Rome” as Julius Caesar’s wife Calpurnia.

Ray Stevenson, a versatile actor known for genre fare such as Punisher: War Zone, the Thor movies, HBO’s Rome and much, much more, has died. He was 58.
Born George Raymond Stevenson on May 25, 1964, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, he harbored acting ambitions from an early age. He enrolled at Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, from where he eventually obtained his graduate degree.
From there, he kicked off a career in British and European TV, starting with 1993’s A Woman’s Guide To Adultery, in which he had a small role as a journalist. He racked up credits in a number of TV series well known to audiences, including Peak Practice, Holby City and The Bill.
But on the small screen, his true big break was HBO’s Rome, in which he played the cheery, violent Titus Pollo. It raised his profile, and he began to score bigger parts both on TV and the big screen.

However, Lilly’s mission isn’t purely selfless: A passionate lost love affair is revealed between Lilly and Aziz (Abdul-Mateen II), an idealistic doctor. But can Lilly let go of the past?...

My friend and colleague Ken Grieve, who has died aged 74, was a film and television director who worked on a range of drama series and plays including Dr Who, Strangers, Peak Practice, Casualty and The Bill, his career perhaps hitting a peak in 1988 with an adaptation of Len Deighton’s Game, Set and Match, starring Ian Holm.
Ken was born and brought up in Edinburgh, the son of Henry Grieve, a plant manager at British Aluminium, and his wife, Lesley, a seamstress. He attended the Edinburgh Academy, where he excelled in geography and history, and won a scholarship to Bryanston school in Dorset.

A Russell T Davies TV project is always something to be excited about. From gifting us Queer as Folk to saving Doctor Who, he has given us a lot to be grateful for over the years. Hence why his various comeback series on Channel 4, E4 and online later this month are being greeted with such a sense of anticipation.
Cucumber, Banana and Tofu come 16 years after Davies shook up TV with Queer as Folk and his new shows look likely to be just as exciting, exploring the passions and pitfalls of 21st century gay life with a candid sense of humour.
But will it create as many stars as Davies's previous Channel 4 series? Here's what happened to the Queer As Folk stars after it ended in 2000.

My aunt, Margery Mason, who has died aged 100, was an actor, writer and theatre manager. She was a founder member of the Actors' Company and made appearances in diverse productions, from Midsomer Murders to a Harry Potter film.
Born and brought up in Hackney, east London, she came from a modest background, and after rudimentary education left school at 15. Her parents ran a semi-professional dramatic company, from which Margery's acting career developed. Initially she performed in their company at working men's clubs in the East End of London, starting as principal boy in pantos, then succeeding to adult parts, sometimes competing with her mother for the starring female roles. Her father ran an early cinema, the Hackney Bioscope, and subsequently established the Impartial Film Report, which distributed weekly film reviews to the then many independent cinemas. Margery attended film trade showings, wrote reviews and helped produce the Report.

The star of This Is England and Line of Duty on strong women, her family's reaction to difficult storylines – and how Kate Moss became a fan
You're about to return to our screens as DC Kate Fleming in BBC2's police thriller Line of Duty. She's a female character in a predominantly male world. Does that appeal to you?
Yes, I certainly look for strong characters – whether that means they're strong in their vulnerability or strong in the way they might be attractive to lots of blokes. There are different ways of being strong. Kate's not vulnerable, she's forceful. When I read the first series, it was very much a woman in a man's world, but now we've got Keeley Hawes [who plays a detective inspector under investigation] it's definitely switched quite a lot of the focus.
Part of the success of Line of Duty seems to be that it's very realistic in a way a lot of police procedurals aren't.

Kevin Whately has been playing gruff, sensible detective Robbie Lewis on Morse and Lewis for 26 years. I speak to him about the possible end of the Oxford copper. At The Daily Beast, you can read my latest feature, "Oxford's No. 1 Sleuth: Inspector Lewis's Kevin Whately on Morse, John Thaw, and the End of the Series," in which I speak with Kevin Whately, star of Inspector Morse and Lewis (which returns to PBS' Masterpiece Mystery on Sunday) about playing Robbie Lewis for 26 years, whether this is the end for the Oxford-set drama, and what's next. Inspector Lewis is due for a vacation. After more than 20 years playing Detective Inspector Robert “Robbie” Lewis, actor Kevin Whately has earned a well-deserved break from investigating murders beneath the Oxford spires. We reported at the end of last year that Luc Besson's Europacorp was looking to bring the Transporter franchise to the small screen. And now we have our new Frank, with Chris Vance taking over Jason Statham's signature role as the wheelman who never changes the deal and never breaks a promise. The British Vance made his start in the likes of The Bill and Peak Practice, but in recent years has decamped to the states and made an impact in series like Prison Break, Dexter and Burn Notice. Joining him as the Transporter series' other main regular will be Hungarian former-model Andrea Osvart, as Frank's CIA handler Carla. Deadline describe Carla as "extremely crafty", so we're assuming that Frank remains freelance and his CIA employment is shady and covert and off-the-record. The Cinemax series will initially run for twelve episodes and boast the same stunt team as the three films,...

Liz Sladen says goodbye to Tom Baker's Doctor at the end of The Hand Of Fear:
Elisabeth Sladen, Doctor Who's very own plucky Metropolitan journalist and all-time great companion, has passed away at the age of 63.
Born in Liverpool on February 1st 1948, Elisabeth's performing roots started at a very young age, with a keen interest in dancing and one appearance with the Royal Ballet. Drama school beckoned after this, and by the early 1960s, she was working at the Liverpool Playhouse repertory company - where she met her husband Brian Miller (Dugdale from Snakedance).
Liz's first on-screen work was as an uncredited extra in Gerry And The Pacemakers film, Ferry Cross The Mersey in 1965. By the early 1970s, she was starting to gain roles in popular TV series such as Coronation Street, Doomwatch and Z Cars. She nearly won the role of Betty in popular sitcom Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em,...

We watch A Clockwork Orange, Straw Dogs and every British horror film worth watching to select the UK addresses you'll want to avoid
While it's great for British cinema that we're making decent horror movies again, the impact on our already sluggish property market has been catastrophic. With every successful regional chiller, thousands are wiped off house prices, and buying a home is now less like Monopoly than postcode russian roulette. This week, terror strikes London's cosy Muswell Hill in Cherry Tree Lane, in which urban youth descend on a white middle-class household and subject it to violence, humiliation and grime-related ringtones. The map's filling in all the time, to the extent that the government might as well replace Hips with Hoodie Information Packs. Until then, the only option for first-time buyers is to watch every horror movie made in Britain. Is nowhere safe? Read our guide and find out…...

Big Finish announced today details of the upcoming three-story season of Fifth Doctor stories, featuring Peter Davison as the Doctor, Sarah Sutton as Nyssa, Janet Fielding as Tegan and Mark Strickson as Turlough, the first time this Tardis team had acted together since 1983.
According to executive producer Nicholas Briggs, "The three stories were recorded just after Christmas, and everyone was on brilliant form. It was quite thrilling to hear [the cast] recreating their roles so authentically. These adventures sound just like they've fallen through a time warp!"
He aded: “The mood during the recording was quite rambunctious and everyone had such a brilliant time that I wouldn’t be surprised to see this team reunited again some time in the near future…”
The series will debut in July, and the first story released will be Cobwebs by Jonathan Morris. The story guest-stars Helen Griffin (Mrs. Moore in "Rise of the Cybermen"), Raymond Coulthard...

We've been covering this flick for a while, going all the way back to February and while it's a bit low budget, the footage looks great and it also stars David Carradine, how can you go wrong with that? It's based on the acclaimed cult novel by David Moody and was recently picked up by sales agent Splotlight Pictures so let's hope we can get a screener soon. Here's a full synopsis:
"As the last autumn leaves slowly peel away from the trees, a mysterious airborne virus ravages the planet, and within a few hours billions die. Victims suffer horrific deaths as their internal organs liquefy, and whole towns’ expire within minutes. Soon cities become infested breeding grounds for the new apocalyptic virus. By the end of the first day there are only a handful of survivors.
A small group of ordinary strangers are soon forced to work together to stay alive.
