HGTV has ordered a new six-episode season of Brother vs. Brother, Drew and Jonathan Scott’s high-stakes house-flipping competition series.
The renewal comes off a strong previous season in which more than 21 million total viewers watched Drew best Jon for the crown.
In the next season, Drew and Jonathan are back in the Los Angeles-area to turn lukewarm homes into hot-ticket properties, and the Brother whose renovated property flips for the most profit will score coveted bragging rights. Brother vs. Brother is slated to premiere in summer 2022.
“You can bet that when we combine Drew and Jonathan’s real estate and renovation expertise with their favorite past-time, one-upmanship, we’ll get a monumental, fun face-off that delivers awe-inspiring designs and valuable home improvement takeaways,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV & Streaming Home Content, Discovery, Inc. “Brother vs. Brother taps into a lifelong sibling rivalry that audiences can’t get enough of and when the brotherly mischief,...

When Discovery launched a new initiative with No Kid Hungry in 2019, the goal was to deliver a billion meals to hungry children in five years. They’ve already pulled it off with years to spare — but the campaign isn’t over.
“We’re not done,” said Jessica Beatus, Discovery’s group vice president for standards and social good. “That’s great that we provided a billion meals, but those meals have been eaten. That doesn’t mean that we’ve solved this at all for the future. A small effort can help a lot of people, but it’s a continual need. We really do have the resources in this country that nobody needs to be hungry, we have a wealth of food here.”

It must not be an easy feat to play your own twin, but a surprising amount of actors have done it. From Lindsay Lohan in “The Parent Trap” to Paul Rudd in Netflix’s “Living With Yourself” to Mark Ruffalo in HBO’s new series “I Know This Much Is True” here are 19 stars who have played their own twins, clones, and even split-personalities on TV and in movies.
Lindsay Lohan – “The Parent Trap,” “I Know Who Killed Me” Pretty much everyone is familiar with Lohan’s iconic role in ‘The Parent Trap’ remake, but few are familiar with her much more grown-up, darker role in this 2007 psychological thriller in which her she plays two very different versions of a girl named Aubrey Fleming.
Mark Ruffalo – “I Know This Much Is True” He plays twins Dominick and Thomas Birdsey in the HBO series, the latter of whom is schizophrenic.

With Hollywood production sideswiped by the coronavirus pandemic for five months, TV networks and streamers’ pipeline is starting to dry up. There are promising signs, with a handful of series already back in production and a couple of dozen more on track to start filming in the next couple of weeks.
While the situation remains fluid as we swing into the fall season, here are the fall premiere dates for new series and new seasons of returning shows that have been set so far. It covers nearly 200 broadcast, cable and streaming series bowing from September 1 through December 31 in various dayparts but does not include specials or movies.
The list includes two series whose production was impacted by Covid-19 and have just resumed filming, the CW’s Supernatural and FX’s Fargo. We will continue to update the roster as more new and returning fall series begin filming and set premiere dates.

As one of the weirder “back to school” seasons in living memory rolls out, Hulu is heading back to school in its own way for September 2020.
The biggest Hulu original arriving to the streaming services stream this month is season 2 of coming-of-age comedy Pen15…which of course stars two adults who have already come of age playing their middle school selves.
Speaking of middle school, perhaps the biggest non-original addition to the Hulu library this month is the arrival of all The Twilight Saga movies on September 1. That should prove to be a real nostalgia trip for interested parties. Other library titles of note include Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle, The Terminator, and 2019’s Judy on September 25.
Bookending Hulu’s originals this month is another intriguing comedy, Woke. This series will star Lamorne Morris as a Black cartoonist who gets an unexpected wakeup call.

As the fate of many Hollywood productions remains up in the air due to the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly as cases sharply rise, HGTV stars Jonathan and Drew Scott — aka the “Property Brothers” — are moving forward with new TV episodes for their vast home-improvement empire.
“The catalyst for us was that construction was never shut down,” Jonathan Scott says. “It was considered essential for obvious reasons, because we can’t have people displaced from their homes. That’s why the two, via their Scott Brothers Entertainment shingle, are about to complete Season 7 of their series “Brother vs. Brother,” and also beginning the casting process to find six families in the Los Angeles area for “Property Brothers: Forever Home.”

Hong Kong filmmaker Ringo Lam has been an active fixture among action movie fans since his debut in 1983, working with the likes of Chow Yun-Fat, Jackie Chan, and Jean-Claude Van Damme on movies in both Cantonese and English. With films such as Maximum Risk and Twin Dragons under his belt, many were interested to learn that he was in the midst of working on a new feature, marking Lan’s first foray back into feature-length filmmaking since the release of In Hell and Looking for Mister Perfect in 2003. Titled Wild City, Lam’s newest film is once again in Cantonese, as he takes on both directing and screenwriting duties, working with a cast that includes Louis Koo, Shawn Yue, and Jack Kao. Variety describes the film as follows.

You could do something similar to what editor Robert Grigsby Wilson has done here taking a look at Lana and Andy Wachowski's The Matrix and pointing out all the moments in the film influenced by, or paying homage to, other films, but it is nonetheless fascinating to take such a trip through film and in this case several martial arts features, anime and even a speech from Philip K. Before Bruce Lee, there was his instructor, the Kung fu Grandmaster Ip Man. The tale of this incredible non-fictional character is presented in The Grandmaster, the latest film from perfectionist director Wong Kar Wai. Tony Leung stars as the title character, and is at the center of the film’s numerous wondrous sequences of Kung fu, as choreographed by Woo-ping Yuen, who previously worked on Twin Dragons and Kill Bill: Vol. 2. Leung stars opposite Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon star Ziyi Zhang.
Leung is an Asian superstar actor, and has starred in a bundle of acclaimed Asian films from notable directors like John Woo, Yimou Zhang, Ang Lee, and certainly Wong Kar Wai. Such films include In the Mood for Love, Happy Together, 2046, Hero, Infernal Affairs, Lust, Caution, and Red Cliff. While he has reportedly expressed great interest in working with filmmakers like Martin Scorsese, he still hasn’t worked in a Hollywood production.

While Hong Kong sales reps busy themselves trading their current and future output, the past -- in the form of remastered versions of catalog titles -- has proved an equally profitable sideline for them at the Afm this year. Media Asia, for example, has been doing brisk business with the 1992 film Twin Dragons, an action comedy with Jackie Chan playing a pair of very different siblings who had their identities swapped in mistake. Story: Remake Fever Hits Asian Film Sector Ricky Tse, Media Asia’s head of distribution and sales, said he’s “surprised” by the enthusiasm toward the 20-year-old title.

Over the years having watched many kung fu movies, one person as stood out above the rest as my favorite villain, his name is Fung Hak On.
His presence on screen was fantastic, not only a great fighter and villain, but he is also a very good actor and could show lots of emotion with even one single look (Most look’s ended with someone getting killed though).
Birth-date : 18/9/1949
At the start of his career, Fung started off more as a stuntman and also having brief appearances in movies such as Vengeance, Heroic Ones, Water Margin plus many others. A few years later, the director he was working with at the time Chang Cheh, also had an assistant working with him, going by the name of John Woo. John Woo was just learning the process back then, but Fung was glad to work with Woo on his first ever directorial movie The Young dragons.

Reboots, remakes, recycled plots are nothing new these days. Just like history is cyclical, so are movies. Directors, writers and actors are influenced by others that have come before them. Hollywood has many innovators, but it is often replicated and nothing is 100% original. The series Everything is a Remix, produced by Kirby Ferguson strives to prove that point. The videos he creates take fans inside their favorite films to get a close look at what movies borrow from movies before them.
Here is Ferguson's most recent video that takes a closer look at the seemingly unique film The Matrix by The Wachowski Brothers. Check out the video below and see fore yourself:

"Everyone steals from everyone, that's movies." The guys in Swingers knew it and we all know it too. Everyone who has ever made a movie has been influenced by someone before them; even the people who invented the art form had influences from outside film. Of course many people innovate, only to to have their techniques ripped off later, but it's almost impossible to find something that is 100% original in every aspect. That's more or less the thesis of the video series Everything is a Remix, produced by Kirby Ferguson. He produces videos (some of which we've highlighted on the site [1]) that visually show how some of our favorite movies borrow from movies before them. Ferguson is still working on the fourth installment of the series, but in the meantime he has released a video dedicated to the 1999 hit film The Matrix by The Wachowski Brothers. In last week's poll, Jackie Chan squared off against himself in a situation not unlike the Jackie Chan movie Twin Dragons. Although it was a hard fought battle, in the end The Legend of the Drunken Master (aka Drunken Master II) came out on top, just barely sneaking past Jackie Chan's first major hit in the U.S., Rumble in the Bronx, to claim the title of Best Jackie Chan Movie. The other movies in the top 5 were Rush Hour, Drunken Master and Police Story respectively, and while there were all fairly close, a noticeable gap separated them from the remaining choices. Pulling up the rear was Project A, an earlier Jackie Chan flick that hardcore fans seem to love, but I suspect that it hasn't been very widely seen. Are you happy with these results? 1. The Legend of the Drunken Master -- 19.1% 2. Rumble in the Bronx -- 18.4% 3. Rush Hour...

Paul
While not as funny as Shaun of the Dead from writers/stars Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, nor as good as Superbad from director Greg Mottola, the film hits plenty of the right notes, where if you’re not laughing, your smiling. (Formats: Blu-ray/DVD) Jon says: Buy Donny says: Buy
Your Highness
Not quite Cheech & Chong in Medieval Times, and for some that was the deal killer. Yet Danny McBride gets off plenty of great lines and Natalie Portman is stupid fine, making for a decent effort, all things considered.

The Battle Of Algiers: The Criterion Collection (1966)
Synopsis: One of the most influential political films in history, The Battle of Algiers, by Gillo Pontecorvo, vividly re-creates a key year in the tumultuous Algerian struggle for independence from the occupying French in the 1950s. As violence escalates on both sides, children shoot soldiers at point-blank range, women plant bombs in cafe’s, and French soldiers resort to torture to break the will of the insurgents. Shot on the streets of Algiers in documentary style, the film is a case study in modern warfare, with its terrorist attacks and the brutal techniques used to combat them. Pontecorvo’s tour de force has astonishing relevance today. (criterion.com)
Special Features:
High-definition digital transfer, supervised by director of photography Marcello Gatti (with uncompressed monaural soundtrack on the Blu-ray edition). Gillo Pontecorvo: The Dictatorship of Truth,...

The DVD cover for Triangle says “Three Masters. One Masterpiece.” Triangle does not in fact live up to the hype its cover hopes to generate, but I understand the desire to make a little-known (to Americans anyway) film’s cover eye-catching. This Hong Kong import did pique my interest with its distinction of bringing together three innovative and influential Hk directors: Tsui Hark (Zu Warriors, Once Upon a Time in China), Ringo Lam (City on Fire, which inspired Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs, the underrated twin Jackie Chan comedy Twin Dragons, and Chow Yun Fat vehicle Full Contact), Johnnie To (Ptu, Election, and Breaking News).
The primary cinematic appeal of Triangle is invested in the collaboration between these three “masters.” Each director takes the reins on one 30-minute section of this 90-minute film. The trio maintains the same editor and cinematography to ensure continuity but bring their own stylistic choices and cinematic flair to their third.
