The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and it has been frequently updated since then. A couple weeks ago, it was revealed that a new character portrayed by genre icon Barbara Crampton is being added to the game in an upcoming update – and now details on the character have been unearthed on the game’s official website! The character with Crampton’s voice and likeness is a Victim character named Virginia.
Here are the details: Virginia is a grief-stricken mother who cannot get over the disappearance of her son Jesse. She’s obsessive over his vanishing and refuses to believe that he could be gone. The weight of her pain is so immense she leaves behind her nursing career to move to Newt, TX, the last location Jesse was seen.

Earlier this month, we shared the news that Anchor Bay Entertainment – which used to be a major player in the horror world back in the late ’90s and early 2000s, when they gave DVD releases to films like the Evil Dead trilogy, George A. Romero’s Dead trilogy, the Sleepaway Camp franchise, The Hills Have Eyes, The Car, Maniac, Prom Night, some of the Hellraisers, Halloweens, and much more – is being revived, with their first two releases puppet horror film Abruptio and Dinner with Leatherface, a documentary that looks at the life, career, and legacy of original Leatherface actor Gunnar Hansen. Now we’ve learned that the new Anchor Bay has acquired the North American rights to the horror/comedy Crust, with the plan being to release it sometime later this year.

Tomorrow, an update will bring a new execution pack and weapon skins into the game, as well as new looks for a couple of the characters. A while back, it was announced that a new killer character, a new victim character, and a new map called The Mill… and now genre icon Barbara Crampton has revealed that she’s playing one of the new characters! Our friends at Bloody Disgusting have learned that Crampton’s character is named Virginia, but it’s not clear if she’s a killer or a victim.

Judi Pulver, the singer, songwriter and keyboardist who had a second, four-decade career as a music sales executive with The Hollywood Reporter and Variety, has died. She was 77.
Pulver died Tuesday morning at a rehabilitation facility in Santa Monica after a battle with lung cancer, her husband, composer and guitarist Don Peake, told THR.
Pulver’s 1973 album, Pulver Rising, was released by MGM Records and featured the single “Dancing on the Moon,” which she performed on television the following year and as the opening act on a Mott the Hoople tour.
The Connecticut native moved into sales and marketing when she created the music advertising business at THR in 1980. “She told them, ‘I believe I can sell music ads because I’m an artist,’” Peake noted. “They said, ‘Go and sit over there and see what you can do.’”

We learned last week that iconic label Anchor Bay Entertainment is coming back to life here in 2024, and founders Thomas Zambeck and Brian Katz have announced this morning that they have acquired the North American rights to the horror/comedy Crust, which will have its release later this year.
Directed by Sean Whalen (The People Under The Stairs), who co-wrote the film with Jim Wald, Crust stars Whalen, Daniel Roebuck (Rob Zombie’s The Munsters), Rebekah Kennedy (Two Witches), Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp), and Ricky Dean Logan (Back to the Future II), with Shawntay Dalon (“Detroiters”) and Alan Ruck (“Succession”).
“As someone who grew up watching Sean on screen, I am thrilled to be in business with him,” says Zambeck. “The fact that it’s on a witty and clever film like this – one that displays such a mastery of tone – makes it so much sweeter. I can’t wait...

Usually on Test of Time we are looking at heavy hitter franchises or big-ticket movies from the biggest of big-name horror directors. If we looked at Carpenter, we could look at things like The Thing or Escape From New York and ask the stupidest question in the world, like if they stand the test of time and what their influences would be. For Hooper, you could give Texas Chainsaw 2 a whirl or see if Lifeforce makes any more damn sense now than it did when it came out. The answers to these and many more questions in a Mount Rushmore horror creators list of credits would be yes, yes, they are quite good. Next Question. So really, when you are playing with the big boys you have to go a little deeper, look at the lesser known and often less discussed movies in their bag of goodies. Today we...

I’ve only played a few video games over the last twenty years, primarily Halo online multiplayer and the recent Friday the 13th game that was hindered by lawsuits… and gaming sure is different these days than it was in my time, when a game was released in its complete form and then you just played the hell out of it. Now, if a game doesn’t get very frequent updates, players will abandon it very quickly. For example, the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was just released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and even though it was updated a new map and a couple new characters at the end of November, I’ve already seen gamers complaining that it’s getting stale and will be pronounced dead if there isn’t another update soon.

A year and a half ago, Get Out, Us, and Nope writer/director Jordan Peele‘s production company Monkeypaw Productions acquired the genre film pitch Goat from writers Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie, the plan being that Peele would be producing Goat as part of Monkeypaw’s overall deal with Universal Pictures. Now Goat is finally moving forward. Deadline reports that Marlon Wayans (Scary Movie) has signed on to star in the sports-related horror film as the titular greatest-of-all-time athlete, while Justin Tipping – who made his feature directorial debut with the 2016 drama Kicks – is on board to direct the film.
Akers and Bronkie’s script centers on a promising young athlete who is invited to train with a team’s retiring star. How exactly horror enters the picture is being kept under wraps. ComicBook.com has heard that the script centers on a rookie Qb who goes to train with a...

The delayed (and typically mysterious) film from Jorden Peele looks like it will be shooting this summer ahead of a 2025 release.
Just a few weeks ago, we covered the report that Jordan Peele’s next film wouldn’t be making its planned Christmas 2024 release date. Production schedules going haywire after months and months of strikes meant that the project didn’t begin production as planned and, as a result, couldn’t make that planned release date.
It was something of a wrench to have next Christmas ruined, despite only having just entering 2024, but if being a film fan over these past few years has taught us anything, it’s to roll with the punches. Happily, World of Reel has popped up with the news that Peele’s project has now reappeared on production schedules and is set to film this summer.

Universal Pictures has released all three of filmmaker Jordan Peele’s directing efforts to date – Get Out, Us, and Nope – and they’re working with him on his fourth film as well, a project that is, so far, only known as Untitled Fourth Film Directed by Jordan Peele. At one time, Universal had announced that they would be releasing Peele’s fourth film on Wednesday, December 25, 2024… but that plan has since changed. The film has been removed from Universal’s release schedule, and during a recent interview on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast Peele confirmed that the change in release plans is due to the strikes that hit Hollywood last year. Peele is still working on the project – and he thinks it could out to be his favorite of the films he has made.

Wes Craven is gone but not forgotten. The soft-spoken horror auteur began his career as an English teacher at Westminster College in the 1960s. But in 1972, he burst onto the film scene with the low-budget shocker "The Last House on the Left." The film's disturbing subject matter alienated many viewers and critics, although some awarded the pic praise. Roger Ebert wrote: "Wes Craven's direction never lets us out from under almost unbearable dramatic tension." Craven found the overall experience negative and wanted to move away from horror movies. However, Craven's scripts outside the horror genre never garnered much interest, and so he returned to the world of horror with 1977's "The Hills Have Eyes." Now firmly established as a horror filmmaker, Craven would continue with the genre for the rest of his career. Craven died in 2015, but his legacy lives on. Below, we've ranked 8 of the filmmaker's best movies.

Jordan Peele burst onto the filmmaking scene back in 2017 with critical acclaim, box office success, and even a huge win at the Academy Awards, making Get Out one of the most promising debut features in the history of the horror genre. Peele proved he was the real deal with both Us in 2019 and later Nope in 2022, and he’s now hard at work on his fourth movie.
Universal Pictures recently bumped Jordan Peele’s untitled fourth movie from its original December 25, 2024 release date, and we haven’t been provided with a new date. The delay is due to last year’s SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, but Peele teases in a new chat with the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast that he’s excited to get back behind the camera this year.

Back in 1996, the Twister cast, outside of Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton was largely unknown. At the time, not too many of them were famous. However, in the years since the film, much of that has changed and much of the Twister cast has gone on to fame both in front and behind the camera.
Helen Hunt was arguably the film’s biggest star in the cast back in ’96, but she wasn’t the first choice for the movie. Before the role of Dr. Jo Harding went to her, Jurassic Park standout Laura Dern, Bridget Fonda, and Kate Mulgrew almost wore the good doctor’s white tank top and reinforced mud-stompers. Initially, Tom Hanks eyed the role of Bill Harding but ultimately felt Twister wasn’t the right fit for his brand of character creation. Other actors floated for Bill Harding include Kevin Costner, Michael Keaton, Kurt Russell, Richard Gere,...

Christmas 2024 is already a little less merry with the news that Jordan Peele’s next film won’t be appearing around then as planned.
All three of Jordan Peele’s films as director so far have walked that tricky tightrope of being both thought-provoking and crowd-pleasing.
You might have your own personal favourite, but all three of his creations have landed with audiences and critics alike. While Peele has produced reimagined takes on horror classics such as Nia DaCosta’s Candyman (and the planned remake of The People Under The Stairs), his directorial projects so far have been original stories – and we’re hoping that the next one will be too.
It’s looking like – per World of Reel – we’re going to be waiting longer for that next film than was originally intended, however.

Wes Craven's 1991 horror hit "The People Under The Stairs" evades easy description. It's a movie that's at once chaotic, insightful, campy, hilarious, horrifying, and weird as hell. There are images in the movie that are impossible to unsee, and ideas about race and capitalism that felt prescient in the '90s and are more relevant than ever now.
"The People Under The Stairs" has been overdue for a remake and it's only fitting that it's finally in the works courtesy of the new master of social commentary-filled thrillers, Jordan Peele. Peele's production company Monkeypaw is at work on an update to Craven's original, and while there's still a lot we don't know about "The People Under the Stairs," we're creeping into the shadows to bring you all the details we can on this fresh take on a very freaky story. Here's everything we know so far.

Jordan Peele is producing a remake of Wes Craven’s horror, The People Under The Stairs – and following a few years of quiet, the project now has a writer.
We seem to be writing this a lot of late, but here’s an update on a project that has been quiet for some time. Jordan Peele’s planned remake of Wes Craven’s 1991 social horror, The People Under The Stairs looks to be moving forwards with a writer finally been announced. We first heard that Peele would be working with Universal once again to bring Craven’s cult classic back to life all the way back in 2020.
We wondered back in March of this year if the project had fallen by the wayside somewhere, but happily, that doesn’t seem to be the case. That said, it’s likely to be some way off still, considering Doom Patrol writer Ezra Claytan Daniels...

Ezra Claytan Daniels has been hired to pen a remake of Wes Craven’s “The People Under the Stairs” for Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and Universal, The Wrap has learned.
The scribe behind genre-centric streaming shows like “Doom Patrol” and “Night Sky” and comics like “Upgrade Soul” will pen a remake of the 1991 original horror flick, which has accumulated a cult following since then both due to its quality and its ahead-of-its-time social topicality.
Written and directed by Craven, the original “The People Under the Stairs” concerned a young Black child (Brandon Adams) who breaks into the home of his family’s greedy landlords. Spoilers for the unaware, but he discovers incestuous adult siblings keeping young boys captive under the stairs of their large house.

It was only a matter of time until Hollywood took a stab at remaking Wes Craven‘s criminally underrated and appreciated The People Under the Stairs, which will be penned by Doom Patrol and Night Sky scribe Ezra Claytan Daniels for Universal Pictures and Jordan Peele‘s Monkeypaw Productions, reports Deadline.

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

Sometimes, life socks. Known to horror fans for his role in Wes Craven’s The People Under the Stairs, Sean Whalen is back with a brand new horror-comedy titled Crust.
Whalen directed and stars in Crust, which centers on a sock monster. In the black & white film, “A has-been child actor and owner of a dingy laundromat becomes powerfully vengeful when his collection of lone socks transforms into a murderous monster named Crust.”
Here’s the full official plot synopsis…
Vegas Winters, a depressed washed up child actor, fled Tinseltown and now owns and lives in a rundown laundromat. He finds lost socks in the machines and uses them to soak up all his bodily fluids. One night his tears of anguish turns the pile into a loving sock monster named Crust who becomes his protector and friend.

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was released for PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One back on August 18th, and just got its first big update – new character outfits, bloody skins, and a version of Leatherface designed by FX legend Greg Nicotero – less than two weeks ago. But now the game’s official X account has shared a promo video that appears to tease the addition of new characters and a new map. Check it out:

This Is Halloween: The Gateway Horrors of ‘Cobweb’ and ‘The Curse of Bridge Hollow’ [Double Trouble]
I grew up on Hocus Pocus, Halloweentown, and Goosebumps. These gateway horrors opened up a whole new world for me. The trembling fear I endured when Carly Beth slid on that terrifying green mask still lingers with me even now. And I’ll never forget the chills I felt running down my spine when Sarah launched into “Come Little Children” or the penetrating gaze of Kalabar that seemed to cut into my soul. These images provoked something in me, conspiring to lure me into horror – and I’ve never left. I might be 30-something now, but I can still enjoy nice little gateway horror movies, especially when they’re as compelling as the Halloween-set Cobweb and The Curse of Bridge Hollow.
In Cobweb, screenwriter Chris Thomas Devlin stages an epically creepy story about a young boy named Peter (Woody Norman), whose parents Carol (Lizzy Caplan) and Mark (Antony Starr) rule with a stringent hand.

The new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham was just released for play on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One on August 18th – and one month later, the developers have announced (via Bloody Disgusting and GameSpot) that new content will be available next month! For $16, players will be able to purchase the “Nicotero Leatherface” pack, which includes a new chainsaw with custom sounds, a new kill animation for all versions of Leatherface in the game, and a new skin for Leatherface that was designed by special effects legend Greg Nicotero.
This is far from the first time Nicotero has associated with Leatherface, as he also worked on the films Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning, and Texas Chainsaw 3D.

One of the oldest horror tropes in the book, the old, dusty, unfinished basement/crawl space setting has provided a cornucopia of stories about the universal fear of what lurks in the darkest and least-coziest corners of our homes. Yet, in Wes Craven’s 1991 lesser mainstream, still beloved cult favorite The People Under the Stairs, the what’s-hiding-in-the-basement angle is reversed and subverted, as the real monsters are not the othered hiding in the basement, and the home invaders are the heroes. Three decades later, the blueprint for People has imprinted itself onto a couple of other soon-to-be cult favorites, last year’s Barbarian and this summer’s Cobweb— all of which share much more in common than merely their set-ups.

We knew from early on that Kane Hodder (who did stunt work on Leatherface: Texas Chainsaw Massacre III) was doing the motion-capture performance for the Leatherface character in the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game from Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham – a game that is now available on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. Later we learned the names of the other mo-cap performers: Sean Whalen (The People Under the Stairs) as The Hitch-hiker; Troy Burgess (Swedish Dicks) as The Cook; Kristina Klebe (Don’t Kill It) as new killer character Sissy; Dove Meir (Dig) as new killer character Johnny; Scout Taylor-Compton (Rob Zombie’s Halloween), did the mo-cap for all of the female victim characters; and Hunter C. Smith (Lucky) did the mo-cap for all of the male victim characters. But the Grandpa character is in the game as well. Who did his mo-cap performance?...

The events of director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) took place on August 18, 1973. Today marks the fiftieth anniversary of those events, and Gun Interactive and Sumo Nottingham are celebrating in the best way possible: by releasing their new Texas Chainsaw Massacre video game on PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One! Spanish filmmaker F. Javier Gutiérrez (Before the Fall, Rings) is back with new movie The Wait (La Espera), described as a sinister folk horror tragedy that takes place in the dark, magic and forgotten Andalusian countryside, a place marked by ancestral traditions. Exclusive to Bloody Disgusting, check out Creepy Duck’s official poster for the movie below!
Bloody Disgusting has also learned this morning that The Wait is an Official Selection of this year’s Sitges International Film Festival. Stay tuned for the trailer, coming soon.
Based on an original script written by Gutierrez, The Wait has been described to Bloody Disgusting as being a “love letter to the horror/fantasy genre,” as well as Gutiérrez’s “most intimate and brutal film” to date. After turning heads with the well-received but short-lived Netflix original horror series Marianne, French director Samuel Bodin moves into features with the visually compelling though ultimately disappointing chiller, Cobweb. Written by Chris Thomas Devlin, who took a stab at rejuvenating the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise in 2022, the script landed on the Black List, among the best unproduced screenplays of 2018, as well as its horror counterpart, the Blood List. That pedigree clearly helped draw a solid cast and crafts team, but after a promising set-up, the story’s internal logic gets scrambled.
Suspenseful though seldom scary, the film is set a week before Halloween and hinges for a good part of its run time on the reliable horror trope of the threat coming from inside the house.
It effectively defies the natural family dynamic of parents as protectors of the vulnerable by giving the young protagonist, Peter (Woody Norman, from C...

Horror is a genre that constantly tries to upend audience expectations. In this last year alone, horror features like “Barbarian” and “M3GAN” have tried to tell new, unique tales that have franchise potential, so it’s not hard to find a movie that just wants to tell a story in a creative way.
Such is the case with “Cobweb,” a wholly original story written by Chris Thomas Devlin (who wrote the 2022 reboot of “Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) that appears to draw heavy inspiration from short-form horror content like “Tales From the Crypt” and features like “The People Under the Stairs.” And if you enjoy those inspirations, “Cobweb” sets itself up to be a success, especially with its leads being Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr, two performers who know how to creep people out.

There’s a lot of awful horror movie dads that come to mind around Father’s Day every year. Everett McGill’s “Man” from The People Under the Stairs or Jack Nicholson’s Jack Torrance from The Shining, for example. There’s also good horror movie dads like John Krasinski in A Quiet Place or Thomas Jane in The Mist (okay, he’s maybe a bit impatient in the end). But the duality of Bill Paxton’s “Dad” from 2002’s Frailty is quite the jagged little pill to swallow.
In the film, Paxton plays a widowed father to two young boys in a small town in Texas in 1979. He initially seems like a decent man and good father who goes to work everyday and comes home to have dinner and spend time with his kids. That is, of course, right up until he wakes them up one night to let...

The perfect date, since director Tobe Hooper’s 1974 classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (watch it Here) was set on August 18, 1973. The social media profiles for the game have given us the heads-up that outlets are going to start taking pre-orders for physical copies of the game soon (for the suggested price of $39.99) – and they have also posted clips of gameplay that show us the special skills that can be used by the killer characters Johnny and Sissy.
While the game features the homicidal characters from the original Chainsaw film, newly created characters Johnny and Sissy were also added into the mix to give players more options.
