With Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier set to direct Marvel Studios' X-Men reboot, the rumour mill continues churning out possible names for the highly anticipated movie.

We're not putting too much stock into any of these casting claims, but following this past week's Professor X and Jean Grey rumours, there's a possible update on the McU's Magneto.

According to scooper @MyTimeToShineH, Marvel Studios is eyeing three-time Oscar winner Sir Daniel Day-Lewis for the role of the Master of Magnetism. Would he ever really consider a superhero movie role? We wouldn't bank on it, though the same might have once been said for Sir Ian McKellen.

It's worth noting that this comes after the insider said, "No new [X-Men] cast will be introduced in the upcoming Avengers films, because the focus is on giving closure to the original characters. Casting hasn’t started yet because director Jake Schreier hasn’t officially signed on.

Michael Mann is now waiting to hear back from the studio after working on Heat 2 for over a year. Mann has stated that audiences are ready for a new story in the Heat universe. “It’s sustained in culture. It’s known,” Mann said. “I could delude myself into thinking that the whole world is familiar with it, but when you check out its prominence in home video for over 20 years, this thing really has legs. People are still watching it, people are still talking about it. It’s a brand. It’s kind of a Heat universe, in a way. Production has officially wrapped on Dead Letters, the debut feature film from writer-director David Drake.

The film stars three-time Emmy-winner Margo Martindale (The Americans), who also serves as executive producer, alongside Stephen Root (Barry), Cole Sprouse (Lisa Frankenstein), Yalitza Aparicio (Roma), Jefferson White (Yellowstone), and Wes Studi (The Last of the Mohicans).

Produced by Sam Bank and Hélène Sifre of Braintrust and Juliet Berman of Spiral Stairs Entertainment, Dead Letters follows an American long-haul truck driver who is forced to confront her past, present, and future as she faces the potential parole of her daughter’s murderer.

Michael Mann directed The Last of the Mohicans over 30 years ago, which is an epic historical drama based on James Fenimore Cooper's novel and its 1936 adaptation. As powerful as that movie was, however, Netflix's American Primeval actually updates a key romantic arc that was present in The Last of the Mohicans: Uncas of the Mohicans and Alice Heyward.

In a recent sit-down with Collider to discuss the 25th anniversary of his 1999 film, The Insider, it was brought to Mann's attention that The Last of the Mohicans had not yet gotten a 4K Uhd release. He also discovered that The Insider and Thief are yet to arrive on 4K, denying the movies the benefits of the upgraded restoration. The Heat director is intent on righting these wrongs. "I didn't realize The Last of the Mohicans wasn't available in 4K," he said. "We absolutely gotta pursue that. Same thing with Insider."

Marvel Comics' new "Ultimate" universe is now knee-deep in its publication, but that shouldn't scare new readers into missing out on "Ultimates" by Deniz Camp.

Set in a version of the Marvel Universe ("Earth-6160") where everything went wrong because of the evil Maker, "Ultimates" follows some familiar heroes trying to build the superhero team the world deserves. Many of these new "Ultimate" heroes have familiar names, but very different backgrounds. Last month's "Ultimates" #4 depicted how this Reed Richards, robbed of his family and future by the Maker, became a heroic Doctor Doom, not Mister Fantastic. The soon-to-publish "Ultimates" #5 (drawn by Juan Frigeri) is making ground-up changes to Hawkeye.

The feature is from first time director Ronan Day-Lewis, the son of the 3x Oscar winning actor. Father and son wrote the screenplay which explores the intricate relationships between fathers, sons and brothers and the dynamics of familial bonds. The last time Day-Lewis was on the big screen was Focus Features’ Paul Thomas Anderson movie Phantom Thread in 2017.

Today, Mann launched the Michael Mann Archives, which is described as "a state-of-the-art, interactive website offering unique access into the all-encompassing directing process of one of cinema's most influential filmmakers." The first film to be featured is Mann's passion project, "Ferrari," which he spent decades developing before it was finally released in 2023.

For $65 (plus something called a "gas fee" that's present with each transaction since it involves the use of blockchain technology), which must be paid only to the website at michaelmannarchives.com, fans will receive a unique access pass that will let them "enter and explore the Archive's extensive collection at their own pace and in perpetuity." Michael Mann is offering behind-the-scenes access to his filmmaking process with the launch of his Archives site.

The online project, which can be seen here, debuted Tuesday with a focus on his 2023 feature Ferrari that stars Adam Driver as race car driver and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari and Penélope Cruz as wife Laura Ferrari. Users can purchase access to the interactive website, and there is a plan to create future pages focused on other Mann movies.

Mann’s Archives site includes 20 previously unseen mini-documentary videos highlighting the making of the film and the technology involved. Also included are the Oscar-nominated filmmaker’s annotated script pages, notes to himself, photo storyboards and an array of audio recordings.

The Hollywood produced died after a battle with cancer, according to Variety.

“Jon was a visionary whose extraordinary talent and passion brought some of the most unforgettable stories to life on the big screen,” Disney Entertainment co-chair Alan Bergman said in a statement.

Bergman noted that Landau was not only an iconic and successful producer but also a remarkable person who inspired those around him. During this difficult time, he extended condolences to Landau’s wife, Julie, and his family and loved ones.

Landau was known for his collaborations with James Cameron, serving as a producer on three of the four highest-grossing feature films of all time. That includes the hit film Titanic, which made history as the first movie to surpass $1 billion at the box office. The film also won Landau an Academy Award. Landau’s son Jamie Landau confirmed his death to The Hollywood Reporter. He died Friday in Los Angeles after 16-month battle with cancer, a Disney spokesperson said.

A son of producers — his father was an Oscar nominee — the passionate Landau produced films including Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and Dick Tracy (1990) before spending some five years as an executive at Fox, where he oversaw production on Die Hard 2 (1990), The Last of the Mohicans (1992), Mrs. Doubtfire (1993) and Cameron’s True Lies (1994).

If Cameron had a problem on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s True Lies, he was told by then-Fox Filmed Entertainment head Peter Chernin, “Don’t call me, deal with Jon,” Landau recalled in a 2011 interview.
