The film is an urban re-telling of Mark Twain's "The Prince and the Pauper".
In an interview on the New York morning radio show The Breakfast Club, Kid N' Play state that this film where they mostly play characters that are close to how they are in real life and how they were when they first met, with Kid being the studious academic and Play being the street-savvy one.

Thomas Mikal Ford, who later went by Tommy Ford, plays the villain "Mink" in the movie. Two months after the film's release, he would go on to play "Tommy Strawn" in the hit Fox sitcom "Martin" starring comedian Martin Lawrence and Tisha Campbell. Lawrence and Campbell worked with Kid 'N Play previously in their House Party movies. Christopher Reid/Kid would also go on to act in an episode of "Martin" titled, "Forever Sheneneh", playing himself. It is the first time all actors were reunited on screen together, sans Play who had previously left the entertainment industry.
