Authenticity is the core theme of Black Mirror’s third series. The question of what is and isn’t an authentic experience comes up several times in the six new stories. With sci-fi takes on different genres—comedic satire, survival horror, romance, military action and detective mystery—and one episode with no future tech at all, Black Mirror plays with perspective and examines what distinguishes the real from the virtual, the impossibility of authentic relationships when social interaction has become an economy, and what might cause us to knowingly opt for inauthenticity over reality.

"Blue Is The Warmest Color" director Abdellatif Kechiche has revealed that he's been asked to next helm a biopic about Marilyn Chambers.
Chambers was a model and actress with a wholesome, all-American girl image who was best known as the 'Ivory Soap girl' in commercials.
That changed in 1972 when she starred in the legendary porn film "Behind the Green Door" which includes one of the first interracial hardcore sex scenes put to film. It also ends with an infamous sequence involving her, three men and trapeze equipment.
Chambers went onto a career in porn with bestselling films like "Insatiable" and "Resurrection of Eve," along with more regular movie work such as David Cronenberg's "Rabid". She came close to being cast in a number of major features in development in the late 1970s.
Kechiche actually pitched several films, including the Chambers biopic, to Wild Bunch before he went to work on 'Blue'.

Recent hot cinema topics such as the portrayal of the Mandarin character in Shane Black’s Iron Man 3 and speculations about what classic Star Trek villain Benedict Cumberbatch’s character in J.J Abrams’ Star Trek: Into Darkness was modeled after leading up to the film’s release, among others, underline the importance of great villains in genre cinema.
Creating a great cinematic villain is a difficult goal that makes for an incredibly rewarding and memorable viewer experience when it is achieved.
We’ll now take a look at the greatest film villains. Other writing on this subject tends to be a bit unfocused, as “greatest villain” articles tend to mix live-action human villains with animated characters and even animals. Many of these articles also lack a cohesive quality as they attempt to cover too much ground at once by spanning all of film history.

Our intense interest in the latest wave of electronic dance music is not just a passing fancy, because many artists from that genre have close ties to horror and science fiction (take Figure's Monsters of Drumstep, Blue Stahli's atom-smashing mashups and Blackburner's evil cyber-bunnies as just a few recent examples). It's a fact that electronic scores from the golden era of '80s horror have been a huge inspiration on many Edm musicians, DJs and producers... which leads me to today's featured artist, whose debut album The End is Only the Beginning arrives this summer with some major talent behind the scenes – including industrial music icon Chris Vrenna, drummer extraordinaire Josh Freese, and renowned producer Sean Beavan (Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson). Even with such iconic names attached to this project, Wvm's own wide range of talents is already impressive – he performs, writes, produces and programs virtually all of his music,...

The UK’s Horror Channel is set to showcase three of David Cronenberg’s most defining films with a season that can’t fail to shock and awaken the senses. Shivers, Rabid and The Dead Zone all receive their Horror Channel premieres, exclusively introduced by top horror directors Simon Rumley (Red White & Blue), Sean Hogan (The Devil’s Playground) and Pascal Laugier (Martyrs). Sat Jan 12 @ 22:55 The season kicks off with the premiere of Shivers (1975), Cronenberg’s debut full-length feature that helped coined the phrase ‘Body Horror’. The infectious plot sees a parasite enter the bodies of people living in a Montreal apartment block and consequently turns them into libido driven, sex mad zombies. Clearly a fan of the genre, Cronenberg cast the unforgettable Hammer Horror siren Barbara Steele in what was to become one of the most iconic scenes in the film. Penelope Ann Miller, The Artist As mentioned in my previous post, French president Nicolas Sarkozy has named Harvey Weinstein, co-chairman of The Weinstein Company (TWC), a recipient of the 2012 Légion d'Honneur, or Legion of Honor. The honor is "in recognition of Weinstein’s contributions to cinema and his decades of work producing some of the most highly regarded films of our time," according to a TWC press release. Weinstein will be inducted with the rank of Chevalier. Although Sarkozy himself nominated Weinstein back in late July 2011, the nomination was made public only today, five days after the Weinstein Company-distributed The Artist, a French production directed by Michel Hazanavicius, won five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Actor (Jean Dujardin). As per the TWC press release, Weinstein had requested that the honor be kept private until now "to avoid any conflict of interest" with his company's Academy Award campaign for The Artist.

First off, the festival's Mavericks line-up is quite interesting, which includes a series of guest presentations and this year will see Edward Norton interview Bruce Springsteen, NBA All-Star and native Canadian Steve Nash will present his hour-long film Into the Wind, Apichatpong Weerasethakul will talk with the audience as his Cannes Palm d'Or-winning film Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall his Past Lives was just added to the Masters programme, Ken Loach and Paul Laverty will be interviewed by Michael Moore on politics and cinema and Philip Seymour Hoffman will have his own panel. Also on hand will be Bill Gates,...

The organizers at the Toronto International Film Festival have put together one hell of an impressive line-up that has grown significantly since my first list announcing the Galas and Special Presentations, a pair of lists that have also grown since then.
The lists have grown to include Massy Tadjedin's Last Night starring Keira Knightley, Sam Worthington, Eva Mendes and Guillaume Canet, which will serve as the closing night film.
It's also grown to include Danny Boyle's 127 Hours starring James Franco. Boyle recently spoke about the film at Movie Con and told the audience there it may be a challenge to watch saying, "It's a lovely way of doing a new kind of filmmaking, really. We want it to be a challenge to you [the audience] to see if you can sit and watch it."
In the film Franco plays real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston who ended up trapped under a...

Spotlight: Between Death And The Devil
Recent times and crimes have seen extraordinary levels of disillusionment with organized religion, particularly with the Catholic Church, and genre cinema has mirrored this anger with startling impact. In the face of this, we’ve put together this troubling spotlight focused on the abuse of faith, the horrors of ideology and the corruption of Godliness. Several of these films will absolutely stagger you.

It's a wrap! The Martin Gropius Bau is empty and the final pickups follow. This is a work in progress and readers are invited and welcome to contribute. Presales have returned in reaction to the reduced number of finished films on offer over the past two markets. Presales applies across the board from Us to French and even Italian films. English language films are increasingly coming out of the major non English language territories but local product is impacting sales on Us films internationally. Business was quickly wrapped up but it was done with a healthy number of buys reported. Lower prices have become accepted but the market must have product as this event proved.

With The Crazies (review here) remake bursting down our door, I thought it would be a good opportunity for Dread Central to look back at some of the most memorable virus/outbreak movies of the genre’s past. It’s a slippery slope when determining what constitutes a viral plague versus a standard zombie apocalypse, but I boiled my criteria down to one basic rule: The carnage must be driven by an infection, and re-animated corpses crawling out of the dirt need not apply.
Here goes nothing. And make sure to join me in the discussion below. Part of the reason I enjoy making these lists so much is to hear what other like-minded horror fans think. What did I miss? What shouldn’t have been included (I can hear some of those now)?

Case 39
Opens: January 1st 2010
Cast: Renée Zellweger, Jodelle Ferland, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper, Kerry O'Malley
Director: Christian Alvart
Summary: A family services social worker thinks she has seen it all until she meets her newest, most mysterious case - a troubled 10-year old girl whose parents try to kill her. The social worker decides to take her in herself until the right foster family comes along.
Analysis: Despite the presence of promising German director Christian Alvart ("Pandorum"), 'Case' has sat on a shelf since late 2006 and is finally being quietly shuffled out this year for one very good reason - it stinks. Having opened in Australia a few months back, reviewers utterly savaged the film as both incredibly dumb and utterly ludicrous. Lead star Renee Zellweger also scored personal criticism to a level rarely seen in film reviews outside of comments about Nicole Kidman's 'more alien than the...

Marvel Zombies was a heavily promoted event in our comic universe. While the moments within the pages were skillfully worked into the canon of Marvel continuity, it's primarily seen as light, spoofy fun. Now, DC take a turn. Get ready for the Blackest Night!
This event has been going on for some time now, so this article isn’t for those already knee-deep in new comics every week. This is for the rest of you who wouldn’t normally know that dead people across the DC universe are rising from the graves and ripping the hearts out of the ones they loved! Got your attention? We’ll take a look at the comics leading up to complete chaos for the Justice League and nearly everyone they know and identify which books are worth hunting down to complete the big picture and which can be left behind. Ultimately, you can always...

The 30th anniversary of Fangoria magazine will be honored at a special panel to be held at the 42nd edition of Spain’s prestigious Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia, to be held October 1-12. Longtime Fango editor Tony Timpone will be attending, joined by British correspondents Alan Jones, Calum Waddell and Axelle Carolyn, as well as Italian correspondent Roberto D’Onofrio. The Fango salute will take place on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m. in the Tramuntana Room at the Meliá Hotel.
“For the last 30 years, Fangoria has been the cornerstone of the Sitges program’s diet,” says festival director Angel Sala, “the number-one source of information to feed the bowels of the beast. Fango has been the written witness of the horror scene around the world for over three decades. Sitges can only bow and pay due respect with a celebration for the fans.”

In 2004, "Head-On" became the first German film in 18 years to win the Golden Bear Award at the Berlinale Film Festival. Much was made of the film's lead female performance by Sibel Kekilli, a 23-year-old newcomer who earned raves for her raw, heartbreaking portrayal of a woman who enters a marriage of convenience but continues to experiment sexually with other men. Days after celebrating the success of the film, the German newspaper Bild ran an article revealing Kekilli's sordid past as the star of "nine hardcore pornographic movies." Many in the industry wondered if this would be the end of a career that had seemed, only days earlier, so promising.
Even in a society where every other celebrity seems to have a sex tape and paparazzi provide audiences unfettered access to actors' private lives, pornography might remain the last taboo. In the 1970s, actors Marilyn Chambers and Linda Lovelace made attempts...
