A Somewhat Lethargic Action-Thriller
Uriah4318 May 2023
This film essentially begins with a man named "Bud Rennick" (Charles McCaughan) and his sister "Rikki Rennick" (Tanya Roberts) operating a small nightclub in Los Angeles. Bud typically tends the bar with an assistant by the name of "Lorrie del Luca" (Maria Rangel) while Rikki is often involved in an illegal poker game in the back room which helps to pay the bills to a certain extent. As it so happens, Bud is a heroin addict and his habit, along with the precarious nature of the gambling operation, eventually puts a strain on the club's finances and, as a result, Rikki goes to see a well-known money lender by the name of "Mal Connery" (Morton Downey Jr.) to help them out. What she doesn't know is that Bud has inadvertently received a computer disc drive from his pusher "Bobby Westcott" (Robert Dean) which implicates Mel in a number of drug-related activities--and Mal is determined to retrieve the disc and kill everyone who has had access to it. Now, rather than reveal any more, I will just say that this turned out to be a relatively standard 90's action-thriller which could have used a bit more suspense and some better action scenes. Likewise, although Tanya Roberts, Maria Rangel and Wendy MacDonald (as "Verna Wheeler") were certainly quite attractive, none of them were really able to overcome the rather lethargic plot and I have rated this film accordingly. Slightly below average.

Solid b-action with good leads
Zvoni2 December 2010
Noticed there ain't no reviews about this one. Watched this on VHS and it's a solid low budget movie. There's good enough plot centering to catching this sleaze-bag businessman and politician with no conscience Mal Wallace, who controls the neighborhood with enforcers, money and drugs. Filmwise this is much better than something like Inner Sanctum, but that one has other values. Zavi plays good lead as a private eye and for fans of Tanya Roberts this one is worth to check out. I read some reviews about her other low-budget movies, I guess this might be one of the better ones. Her presence was the reason why I picked this up. And yes there is a short love scene where Tanya shows some flesh.
