It was clear Brittany Murphy (ne Bertolotti) was destined for fame from a young age. After attending the Verne Fowler School of Dance and Theater Arts in New Jersey, Murphy's family relocated to Los Angeles so she could pursue her acting career. She earned her first major TV role at the age of just 13, playing Brenda Drexell in the sitcom Drexell's Class. Murphy's breakout into features came a few years later, when she landed the role of Tai Frasier in the teen comedy Clueless.

Dabney Coleman, the popular comic actor from 9 to 5, Tootsie and Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman whose many redeeming qualities including a knack for portraying characters who had none, has died. He was 92.

Coleman died Thursday at his home in Santa Monica, his daughter, singer Quincy Coleman, told The Hollywood Reporter.

“My father crafted his time here on Earth with a curious mind, a generous heart and a soul on fire with passion, desire and humor that tickled the funny bone of humanity,” she said. “As he lived, he moved through this final act of his life with elegance, excellence and mastery.

It's a sad day in the hip hop world as rap legend Shock G has passed away. The rapper, famous for the Digital Underground hit song "The Humpty Dance" and his work with Tupac Shakur, was found dead on Thursday in a hotel room in Tampa, according to his father, Edward Racker. There were no signs of trauma and the cause of death has not yet been determined, pending the results of an autopsy. He was 57 years old.

Shock G, whose real name was Gregory Jacobs, was known worldwide as the lead vocalist of the hip hop group Digital Underground. He was behind the famous 1989 song "The Humpty Dance," which was a single from the group's debut album Sex Packets. The song reached No. 1 on the Billboard Rap Singles chart at the time and continues to get regular play to this day, serving as one of the most memorable rap songs of the 1980s.

- Get ready for a 21st-century incarnation of "The Flintstones," by way of "Family Guy" creator Seth MacFarlane. The new take on the classic cartoon will go in for the same modern-prehistoric humor as the old show did; Dan Palladino ("Gilmore Girls") and Kara Vallow ("Family Guy") will executive produce it with MacFarlane. Production is set to begin in the fall, but it won't be on the air until 2013.

- The rumored prime-time newsmagazine fronted by NBC anchor Brian Williams is now reality. It doesn't have a title or an airdate yet, but the network says it will debut sometime in the fall. Williams briefly described his notion for the show at NBC's presentation, saying it would focus on longer-form stories that don't currently have an outlet.

Zap2it has at its disposal a nifty project someone put together of the state of TV coast to coast. Which show represents each of the 50 states?

Now, not every state has a show. And as a citizen of one of those states, we'd like to say that Iowa has had two shows set there ("Double Trouble," "Drexell's Class") plus "Coach," which was about the University of Iowa. We're sure the citizens of Mississippi, Alabama, Nebraska, Wyoming, North Dakota, Montana, Idaho, Delaware, West Virginia and New Hampshire can chime in as well in the comments.

But we can look past those states being left out in order to enjoy the project itself. Do you like the show chosen to represent your state? Do you wish it was something else? We think Washington should've gone with "Twin Peaks" but overall, we don't really have any objections.

Los Angeles County coroner's office say anemia and prescription drugs also played role in death of 8 Mile actor

The actor Brittany Murphy died from pneumonia but anemia and prescription drugs also played a role, coroner's officials said today.

The primary cause of the death was community acquired pneumonia, with contributing factors of iron deficiency anemia and "multiple drug intoxication", the Los Angeles County coroner's office, which ruled the death accidental, said.

Craig Harvey, a coroner's office spokesman, declined to specify what types of drugs had been involved in Murphy's death, but said all were prescription drugs.

Details of the drugs the actor, who starred in Clueless and 8 Mile, had in her system will be released when a complete report is compiled in several weeks.

Murphy, 32, died on 20 December after collapsing at her home in Hollywood Hills.

Her mother and husband said she did not abuse prescription drugs or have an eating disorder.

She was never my favorite actress, nor my least favorite. There were roles that I loved, and roles that I loathed. But her presence in Hollywood was always a joy, mainly because I matured with Murphy, born the same year as myself. Brittany Murphy, the actor who specialised in playing disturbed young women in a series of films that had an echo of her own troubled life, has died of a heart attack aged 32.

Her death was first reported by the entertainment website TMZ which said an emergency call was made at 8am today from the Los Angeles home of her husband, Simon Monjack. Her mother had found her unconscious in the shower, and when paramedics arrived they found she was in full cardiac arrest and attempted to revive her.

She was pronounced dead on arrival at Cedars-Sinai medical centre.
