Kevin Spacey likely learned that his performance would be omitted from “All The Money in The World” via the Internet, just like everyone else. The film’s director, Ridley Scott, told The New York Times that he did not inform the two-time Oscar winner of his recasting because the actor never called once he had been publicly accused of sexual harassment and worse. Allegations have been made against Spacey by more than 30 accusers, including 16 male staff members from the Old Vic, where Spacey served as artistic director for 11 years.
“A phone call would have been nice,” said Scott, already a Best Director Golden Globe nominee for the film. “At first I was disappointed. Then I was mad.”
The Times article also established the timeline of events that led to the $10 million decision to replace Spacey while still bringing the feature to theaters by Christmas (the original release date was December...

The race to the 2018 Academy Awards kicked into high-gear on Monday morning with the announcement of the Golden Globe nominations, with Guillermo del Toro’s The Shape of Water leading the pack with seven nominations while Steven Spielberg’s The Post and Martin McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri linger not far behind with six apiece.
But what bearing do the nominations have on Hollywood’s top prize — the Oscars — and how this year’s race is shaping up?

If Christopher Plummer need any tips on playing John Paul Getty after replacing Kevin Spacey on “All the Money in the World,” perhaps he should call up Donald Sutherland. Sutherland will play the oil tycoon on Danny Boyle’s new series for FX, “Trust,” which released a promising first teaser trailer today. With Ridley Scott’s take on the same event suddenly mired in controversy, it will be fascinating to see how Boyle’s measures up. (And perhaps another reason why Scott is so determined to finish his film quickly).
“Trust” maps the Getty family legacy, beginning with the 1973 kidnapping of John Paul Getty III. If ordered for more seasons, the series would explore other chapters in the oil family’s history.

Christopher Plummer is currently the internet’s new hero, stepping in to replace Kevin Spacey in Ridley Scott‘s “All The Money In The World.” The memes have already started, with Plummer being Photoshopped in place of Kevin Spacey in countless movie stills, but as far as the 87-year-old actor is concerned, ‘Money’ is an opportunity to bite into a juicy part, and work with a legendary director.

In a highly surprising move, Ridley Scott has decided to remove all of Kevin Spacey‘s scenes in the upcoming All the Money In the World and reshoot them with actor Christopher Plummer. The decision comes as a result of multiple sexual assault allegations levied against Spacey in recent weeks. This is an unprecedented decision: All the Money In […]

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has announced the 145 scores eligible in the Best Original Score category, includeing work from “Jackie” and “La La Land.” The latter film, a musical directed by “Whiplash” helmer Damien Chazelle, picked up the Los Angeles Film Critics Association’s award for Best Music earlier this month; “Jackie” was the category’s runner-up. Notably absent, meanwhile, are “Arrival” (which just landed a Golden Globe nod), “Manchester by the Sea” and “Silence.”

Curtis Hanson--Confidentially
By
Alex Simon
Curtis Hanson was my first interview with a fellow film buff and film journalist. He was nice enough to sit down with me twice, first at the Rose Cafe in Venice, then at a lunch spot in the Marina, the name of which has been lost to time. He was then kind enough to invite me to the world premiere of "L.A. Confidential" at the Chinese Theater as his guest, my first time on the red carpet at a real-life Hollywood premiere, and called me after this piece ran to thank me personally. A nice man. Hanson, and co-writer Brian Helgeland, would go on to win Best Adapted Screenplay Oscars for "L.A. Confidential."
Years later, I ran into Hanson at a book signing party for Pat York that was held in Westwood. I approached him and reminded him of our interview a decade or so earlier.

Chicago – Dan Fogelman is a familiar behind-the-scenes creator, having wrote scripts and screenplays for “Cars,” “Fred Claus,” “Tangled,” “The Guilt Trip” and “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” He takes on his first directorial effort, the story of “Danny Collins,” a faded rock star who finds redemption through a lost letter from John Lennon.
“Danny Collins” stars Al Pacino as the title character, who goes on a journey to find his estranged son, portrayed by Bobby Cannavale. The all-star cast includes Annette Bening, Jennifer Garner and Christopher Plummer, and highlights the process of re-engineering a life that has drifted the wrong way. Dan Fogelman wrote the screenplay inspired by a true story (the background of which is below), and got the opportunity to direct his script.

Money is power in the 1976 television mini-series Arthur Hailey’s The Moneychangers, an adaptation of Hailey’s 1975 bestselling novel.
The tale of corruption and greed in the banking business stars Christopher Plummer (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) in his Emmy-winning role as the suave, hypocritical and skilled Roscoe Heyward and Kirk Douglas (Paths of Glory) as the honest, hard-charging and focused Alex Vandervoort, both of whom are vying for the top position in one of the nation’s largest banks. "Scarface" co-star Steven Bauer recalled a decade ago that, during the 1983 premiere for the over-the-top epic of the rise and fall of a violent, foul-mouthed, cocaine kingpin, Martin Scorsese turned to him and said, "You guys are great -- but be prepared, because they're going to hate it in Hollywood" Bauer said he asked why, and that Scorsese replied, "Because it's about them."
Thirty years after the release of "Scarface" (on December 9, 1983), Brian De Palma's glitzy, coke-fueled tale of Cuban immigrant druglord Tony Montana now seems like a landmark of '80s cinema. It provided major early career breaks for a number of stars, from Michelle Pfeiffer to Bauer to F. Murray Abraham, as well as for screenwriter Oliver Stone. Along with fellow gangster Michael Corleone of the "Godfather" trilogy, Tony Montana is the role Al Pacino is most likely to be remembered for. And of course, the movie...

I loved The Land Before Time when I was a kid. It was a cute story with memorable characters in a world full of dinosaurs that utterly fascinated me. I remember seeing it in the theatre, getting the plastic hand puppets from Pizza Hut, and eventually acquiring a VHS of the film through some other restaurant’s promotion. There was something about it that allowed for its message of friendship, love, and whatever else to come across without a shred of overt manipulation or gimmicks to reel in the ever-evolving minds of the children watching. Back then, if you weren’t Disney you didn’t even attempt to populate an animated film with song—at least until it came time to cash-in on sequels.
When Pixar showed family films with story could succeed, not even the Mouse House needed cute critters breaking out into song anymore. It appeared the era...

Well dip me in gold and call me Uncle Oscar - it's time for another round of Hollywood hellraisin' courtesy of the Ae Movie Club.
This week the name on every film lover's lips is gonna be Roxy Oscar. They don't call it "The Gay Superbowl" for nothin' - a perfect storm of camp, artistry, spectacle, emotion, and cleverly-named appetizers, it's the biggest night of the year for many of us. If you're like me, the tears will start flowing long before the In Memoriam segment.
So this week we're focusing on all things Academy. We've got an Oscar party planner workshop, a Fast Five of fave Oscar surprises, Vintage Beefcake from an Award winner, an Oscar Bingo card, and more! Plus new posters, trailers, and other goodies that have nothing to do with the red carpet.
5 ... 4 ... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...
Wait, sorry - before we start, can we just talk about this for a minute?...

Here's some inside intel for casual movie fans contemplating their Oscar predictions: By the time the Academy Awards roll around, we know who's going to win in pretty much every major category.
Sure, there can be surprises and the occasional too-close-to-call race, but after so many other award functions play out in the lead-up to Oscar night, from the Critics Choice to the Golden Globes to the all the guild gatherings, patterns emerge and some favorites appear unbeatable.
That's why if you're about to head to Vegas (Editor's note: NextMovie does not condone gambling, unless you're sharing …) and lay down some scratch on "The Artist" winning Best Picture, the rewards, at this point, won't be too tempting.
But if you're simply just looking to fill out your office Oscar ballot (get your printable one right here), then there are some categories you just shouldn't miss on.

Tons of updates today. Let's start with Bear McCreary.
GameMusic.net posted an interview they did with him in April. It's mostly about the Socom 4 score, but Caprica and BSG also get a mention, as well as the other shows he is/was scoring. Here is a snippet:
Matt: To switch a bit, in addition to video games, you scored three television series over the past season: Eureka, The Walking Dead, and The Cape. How were you able to fit in composing and recording for so many projects?
Bear McCreary: I don't sleep a lot (laughs). The schedules are tough, but thankfully, of the three shows that you cited, two of them are on cable and cable has a very different schedule than network television. Generally I'm able to weave my way through the schedules and I usually don't have to work on more than one show at any given time.
