- Television sitcom set in Saint Paul, Minnesota. The main character is Chris Peterson, a 30-year-old man who has been working for most of his life as a paperboy for the "St. Paul Pioneer Press" (a real-life newspaper). He is childish, dimwitted, and refuses to grow up and live the life of an adult.
During the first season, Chris still lives with his parents: Fred and Gladys Peterson. They are a middle-aged, retired couple. They no longer bother to wear anything other than pajamas and robes, and seem rather obsessed with their weaponry collection.
The parents barely hide their annoyance with their son. Gladys makes cynical jokes at his expense, and Fred no longer cares whether Chris harms himself or not.
Chris' only friend is Larry, his childhood best friend who has since "grown up". Larry works as an accountant, is trapped in a dead-end career, is unhappily married to the domineering Sharon, and has two children of his own. Larry has grown to hate his life and is rather envious of Chris. Meanwhile, Chris and Sharon hate each other.
The opening episodes of season 2 came with two major changes. Larry decides to do something about the life he hates, by leaving his wife and children, and disappearing. Chris decides to move out of his parents house' and moves into the garage of Gus Borden.
Gus Borden, a new main character, is a retired police officer with the tendencies of a sociopath. He was actually kicked out of the police force for urinating on a superior officer. He barely tolerates Chris, but Chris views him as a parental figure.
During the series, Chris repeatedly dies, but inexplicably keeps returning to life.
