Let’s raise a birthday toast to Bob Seger, who turns 80 today. He might be the only great American rock star who likes everybody in his songs. He’s not judging anyone in “Fire Down Below.” He hopes his crooked friend in “Still The Same” keeps getting away with it. He’s impressed by the scam artist who stole his credit card in “Sunspot Baby” and he hopes she sure had a real good time. The first rock star on a live album asking the fans up front not to hurt each other.

Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry played live together for the first time in two years at a private benefit for Tyler’s charitable organization Janie’s Fund in San Francisco on Wednesday night (April 30th).
The “Toxic Twins,” as the singer and guitarist are affectionately known, hadn’t performed on the same stage since Tyler suffered a vocal injury just three shows into Aerosmith’s farewell tour in September 2023. The following year, the legendary rock band announced they were retiring from touring due to Tyler’s condition, and canceled a rescheduled tour that was set to begin in September 2024.
While Tyler returned to the stage in early February of this year at a Grammy party benefitting Janie’s Fund, Perry was unable to join him that night, although Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton did share the stage with the singer for that performance.

Aerosmith may have said farewell for a final time at a Long Island concert in September 2023, but that won’t stop Steven Tyler and Joe Perry from reuniting for a good cause. The so-called “Toxic Twins” shared a stage together again on Wednesday at a San Francisco benefit concert to raise money for Janie’s Fund, the nonprofit organization Tyler founded to help vulnerable women (like the one he sang about in “Janie’s Got a Gun.”)

Mia Tyler is revealing alleged new details about her father Steven Tyler‘s struggles with substance abuse.
The 46-year-old actress claimed that the now 77-year-old rockstar used one of his signature on-stage decorations as a tool to conceal his addiction.
“The story of why he has scarves on his microphone is because he liked to hide his pills and whatnot, so he could do them live on stage. He would have little pockets sewn so he could be on stage and just take whatever it was that he was [ingesting],” she said on a recent episode of the Sibling Rivalry podcast.
Keep reading to find out more…
Mia also said that the “Dream On” singer’s behavior was “extremely wild” during her childhood.

In the wake of The White Lotus and Dying for Sex, two television shows drenched in the pheromones of lust, The Hollywood Reporter decided to rank the 20 sexiest TV shows this week. Where, you might wonder, do comedies rank on the list? Not surprisingly, the list is dominated by streaming dramas where the latitude for nudity and general horniness is a little wider. A few comedy shows did make the list, however, as you’ll read below.
Before we get into the Hollywood Reporter’s rankings, though, consider a few other sitcoms that might have qualified for the list…
Dream On
The whole point of HBO’s Dream On was to take advantage of the pay cable network’s willingness to show naked people running around the bedroom. Imagine a sitcom in which someone’s dress falls off every week and you get the idea.

In the early 1990s, HBO was home to some of the best shows on TV. From shows like The Sopranos to Sex and the City, the network had plenty of original shows to keep viewers entertained. But before these breakout hits, one of the first HBO originals was Dream On, a quirky and creative sitcom. Created by David Crane and Marta Kauffman, who would go on to make Friends, Dream On is now a largely forgotten TV show that once featured one of the most creative and unconventional formats on TV.
Premiering in 1990, Dream On stood out as one of the first HBO series to test the waters of adult content. With full nudity and some strong language, the show was an early sign of HBO's commitment to pushing the limits of what TV could be. Netflix UK has assembled twelve top-tier British celebrities, who have subjected themselves as prey for a Bear hunt.
While it may not be a grizzly bear sniffing around for them, it may be worse. Edward Michael “Bear” Grylls, a British adventurer, TV personality and former British Special Forces soldier, will be on the hunt for the celebrity talent attached to the reality competition series.
Holly Willoughby hosts the Netflix show set in the Costa Rican jungle, where 12 celebrities, including Spice Girls alum Mel B and tennis legend Boris Becker, become prey for the legendary survival expert.
Each of the stars must prove how strong their sense of survival truly is as they navigate a brutal game of cat and mouse and are hunted down by Bear himself. Failure to work together and complete a challenge means an hour in the Bear Pit being hunted by Grylls. If caught, the celebrity will be eliminated.

In 2024, Aerosmith announced that it would officially retire from touring after Steven Tyler suffered significant damage to his vocal cords. But all it took was a good cause for the musician to make a return to the stage. Over the weekend, Tyler hosted a Grammy Awards watch party at the Hollywood Palladium through his Janie’s Fund foundation. At the end of the night, he performed six songs with assistance from a few special guests.

Steven Tyler gave his first performance since Aerosmith‘s retirement from touring due to the singer’s vocal injury.
Tyler played a six-song set, including Aerosmith hits, at the Hollywood Palladium on Sunday (February 2nd) as part of his Janie’s Fund Grammy watch party and benefit concert.
Although he did not share the stage with Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry (as had been announced), Tyler was backed by bandmate Tom Hamilton on bass, as well as an all-star lineup including Extreme’s Nuno Bettencourt, Matt Sorum, Mick Fleetwood, and Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes.
Among the songs performed were Aerosmith staples such as “Toys in the Attic,” “Sweet Emotion,” “Dream On” (with guest vocals from country star Lainey Wilson), and “Walk This Way” (with guest vocals from pop artist Jessie J). The set was bookended by covers of Extreme’s “More Than Words” (with Bettencourt) and Led Zeppelin’s “Heartbreaker.

I Come in Peace… You Go in Pieces!
So goes one of the coolest one-liners I have ever heard, and it’s part of one of the most unheralded Christmas action movies ever. Now, Christmas action movies have always been a thing. Something about the juxtaposition of the holidays and ultra-violent action has always been irresistible to Hollywood. In movies like First Blood and To Live and Die in LA, the holiday theme makes the desperately violent scenario all the more grim. At the same time, other classics like Lethal Weapon and Die Hard ultimately have Christmas messages about friendship and family that come through just as strongly as in a straight-up Christmas movie like It’s a Wonderful Life.
Yet, not every Christmas action flick becomes a classic, which brings me to this special Christmas edition of The Best Movie You Never Saw, where we tackle the Dolph Lundgren Actioner I Come In Peace,...

Decades before shows like "Search Party" took an ever-shifting approach to the comedic TV format, "Laverne & Shirley" was switching things up season after season. The "Happy Days" spinoff started with a pretty consistent premise in its early seasons, focusing on two zany roommates working at a Milwaukee bottling company. By season 5, though, tomboy Laverne (Penny Marshall) and optimist Shirley (Cindy Williams) ended up in the Army Reserves, and season 6 saw them move to Burbank and work as department store gift wrappers. By the final season, Shirley was gone, and Laverne was working in the aerospace industry.
As wild as the twists and turns of "Laverne & Shirley" were, the show had some constants across its eight seasons, including the presence of neighbors Lenny (Michael McKean) and Squiggy (David Lander), Laverne's dad Frank (Phil Foster), and Shirley's fame-hungry ex, Carmine (Eddie Mekka). NBC’s long-running hit sitcom Night Court revolved around the idiosyncratic cases argued in its titular location, and the lovable weirdos who worked there — none weirder than youthful judge Harry Stone (Harry Anderson), who never let his work on the bench interfere with his true passion: close-up magic.
The sequel series, which premiered last year, doesn’t stray too far from the original. Once again, the presiding Night Court judge is young, quirky and optimistic about most people she meets. She’s also a Judge Stone — Judge Abby Stone (Melissa Rauch), Harry’s daughter. She’s exactly the kind of judge who would eagerly sign up for a program called Operation Second Chance, which hires formerly incarcerated people. And since original prosecutor Olivia Moore (India de Beaufort) has departed since the Season Two finale, Abby’s decided to fill the vacancy with Julianne, whose record for (among other crimes) arson has recently been expunged.

Walking into the 11th Avenue studio of “The Daily Show” on Tuesday night was instantly an odd experience. Typically, recordings for the Comedy Central staple are crackling with energy. People talk and laugh, quoting late night jokes or comparing their list of favorite correspondents. But on election night, the queue crowd wasn’t excited so much as tense as it filed in around 10:15 p.m. Et, when the first results were showing a lean in Donald Trump’s direction.
It was a feeling that continued throughout the hourlong live special. What started as a fun way to spend the evening morphed into something akin to taking a sick dog to the park for one last game of fetch as the results came in. But the mounting dread permeating the studio audience highlighted one key insight: we still need Jon Stewart, perhaps now more than ever.

One of the many benefits of this streaming era is the ease of access it frequently provides to classic, long-forgotten shows. Dream On, a 90s sitcom that ran for 6 seasons on HBO from 1990 to 1996, is the latest to benefit from this as the title recently landed streaming for the first time ever. Long tucked away in HBO's limited subscriptions list, Dream On has been pulled out of obscurity and given the chance to shine again as all 6 seasons recently became available on the ad-supported Roku Channel. In a time when revivals and reboots are all the rave, who knows? Maybe one could be the cards for this beloved adult show that was inventive and not afraid to go where its contemporaries would not.

Little did fans attending Aerosmith’s concert at the Ubs Arena in Elmont, New York, last September know that it would be the legendary rock band’s final show. But with the recent announcement that the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers are retiring from touring due to Steven Tyler’s vocal injury, the September 9th concert now stands as a monumental gig.
Thanks to a YouTuber by the name of Toshi Aizawa, the entire show has just been uploaded to YouTube in 4K with “better sound,” as the description cites a remastered version of the audio.

Aerosmith are retiring from touring effective immediately after concluding that frontman Steven Tyler will not be able to recover from his vocal injury.
Previously, Aerosmith postponed their planned farewell tour after Tyler sustained vocal cord damage and fractured his larynx during a concert in September 2023. In a statement released Friday afternoon, Aerosmith said: “It has been the honor of our lives to have our music become part of yours. In every club, on every massive tour and at moments grand and private you have given us a place in the soundtrack of your lives.”

Wendie Malick is replacing India de Beaufort as a new prosecutor for season 3. India de Beaufort leaving Night Court is not reflected in the season 2 finale. Malick's character Julianne Walters is Dan Fielding's ex.
Night Court season 3 confirms its replacement for the departing India de Beaufort, who played Olivia, and it's a familiar face. In May, in the latest cast change for the NBC reboot from showrunner Dan Rubin, de Beaufort shared that she would not be back as Assistant District Attorney Olivia Moore. Her departure is not apparent in the season 2 finale and will have to be addressed when season 3 airs. It left a big question mark for Night Court season 3, which is now partially answered.

A familiar face is joining the cast of Night Court Season 3. Wendie Malick, who recurred in the first two seasons, has been upgraded to a series regular for the upcoming third season of the NBC sitcom, which is set to premiere on NBC on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at 8:30 p.m. Et/Pt.
Per Deadline, Malick will be reprising her role from the first two seasons as Julianne Walters, the new prosecutor for the night shift at the Manhattan Criminal Court. She is described as "a reformed convict" who is "a sophisticated, savvy woman and accomplished attorney who also knows how to make a shank out of a spoon." She is also the former love interest of Dan Fielding (John Larroquette). Malick's casting comes after it was revealed back in May 2024 that India de Beaufort had departed the series after two seasons and would not be returning as assistant district attorney/prosecutor Olivia Moore.

It has been commonplace in academic circles to divide up and label Chinese filmmakers into generations that reflect socio-political currents as much as cinematic style.
Chen Kaige and Zhang Yimou, who were educated at the end of the Cultural Revolution, are considered the leading lights of the “fifth generation.” The rebellious cluster that followed them, Zhang Yuan, Wang Xioashuai, Jia Zhangke and Lou Ye are among those labelled as “sixth generation.”
But with substantial bodies of work under their belts and international reputations already established, the sixth generation are no longer quite so new, nor so angry.
The four Chinese films selected for the main competition – all world premieres – at this year’s Shanghai International Film Festival represent a showcase of directors who are also known-quantities, but who are worthy of higher profiles. (The festival’s Asian Talent selection has a further selection of six more directors seeking to break through.

It’s always a good time to be in the Sarah Paulson business, but that’s especially true this year. The acclaimed performer recently scored her first-ever Tony Award nomination for her performance in “Appropriate” and she is widely predicted to land double Emmy Award nominations for her guest acting appearances in the FX comedy series “The Bear” and Prime Video drama series “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” If that were to happen when the 2024 Emmy nominations are announced in July, Paulson would join a select few performers to receive concurrent guest-acting nominations since the categories were standardized in 1989.
So far, only 10 actors have received guest-acting nominations in the comedy and drama categories in the same year. The most recent example is Harriet Walter, who collected nominations last year for roles in “Succession” and “Ted Lasso.” Walter is the only person to have achieved this double-dip twice: She was a previous double nominee in 2022.

Joe Flaherty, founding member of “Sctv” and ubiquitous comic actor for decades including a stint as the Dad on “Freaks and Geeks,” has died at the age of 82, according to multiple reports.
The Pittsburgh-born performer (a rare American in the Canadian comedy sphere) got his start with the Chicago-based Second City Theater, first appearing on the “National Lampoon Radio Hour” before resettling in Toronto to become part of Second City’s core in the Great White North. He was one of the initial writer/performers on “Sctv,” a vanguard sketch comedy series co-starring John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis (for a little while), Dave Thomas, and, later, Martin Short, that mixed parody programming with behind-the-scenes shenanigans at a low rent television station in “Mellonville.” Indeed, if “Sctv” could be said to have a main character, it would be Flaherty’s Guy Caballero, the corrupt,...

There are narrative flourishes and then there are narrative flourishes. And one in the new film from director Amy Glazer (Seducing Charlie Barker, The Surrogate) is a doozy. How much you appreciate this heartwarming drama about a female pilot who discovers that her grandmother may actually be a legendary figure in aviation history will depend on how much you’re willing to go along with its major plot twist, which won’t be revealed here but is relatively easy to figure out. But if you’re willing to suspend some disbelief, 7000 Miles, recently showcased at the Fort Lauderdale International Film Festival, offers myriad pleasures, not the least of which is a terrific performance by Wendie Malick. The veteran sitcom actress (Dream On, Just Shoot Me, Hot in Cleveland) anchors the film with her charismatic turn in a rare leading role that Katharine Hepburn would have killed for.

This post contains minor spoilers for the "Star Trek: Lower Decks" episode "The Inner Fight."
Throughout the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," audiences have seen a mysterious white UFO, its motivations unknown, cruising about the galaxy attacking and destroying numerous alien vessels. Details about this UFO have slowly been revealed throughout the season, but its true secret remains. Who is flying it and why is it attacking non-Federation ships?
In the latest episode, called "The Inner Fight," it is also revealed that the UFO may be targeting specific Starfleet officers, again for reasons unknown. Captain Freeman (Dawnn Lewis) notes that one of the potential targets may be Dr. Beverly Crusher, once the chief medical officer on the U.S.S. Enterprise. Lieutenant Boimler (Jack Quaid), being intimately familiar with Starfleet history, immediately begins to geek out. He will get to meet the Dr. Beverly Crusher? He is giddy just at the possibility.

Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler urged vacationers to return to Maui during the opening night of the band’s farewell tour.
Near the end of the opening night of the band’s farewell tour in Philadelphia Saturday, Tyler urged audience members not to be afraid to travel to the island again. Tyler is a Maui homeowner.
“When you think about Lahaina, think about south Maui,” Tyler told the audience at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelpha. He made the remarks just before the band played their monster hit, Dream On.
“Paia and Hana: it’s still there,” he said of two other Maui resort towns unscathed by the fires. “It’s a place to go and do, you know, the love thing. It’s still open, it’s still happening.
“Everything’s beautiful, except we gotta come there and make it more beautiful, Ok?” he said.

Aerosmith kicked off their “Peace Out” farewell tour on Saturday (September 2nd) at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, where the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band played an 18-song set filled with their many hits and fan favorites.
Back in May, Aerosmith announced that they’d be embarking on a final tour (tickets available here), stating, “It’s not goodbye, it’s Peace Out! Get ready and walk this way, you’re going to get the best show of our lives.”
On Saturday, singer Steven Tyler and company launched the first show of the 40-date North American outing with “Back in the Saddle,” followed quickly by the hits “Love in an Elevator,” “Cryin’,” and “Janie’s Got a Gun.” Alongside those instantly recognizable tunes, the band worked in deeper cuts like “Adam’s Apple,” “No More No More,” and “Seasons of Wither,” as well as their cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “Stop Messin’ Around.
