History will always repeat itself
helpless_dancer25 October 2001
After a woman fervently wishes for another chance after a terrible tragedy, she is mysteriously granted one year of her life to be lived over. Vowing that things will be different this time around, she sets out on a new job in a new locale. Instead of being able to control things the second time around, she is repeatedly frustrated at finding herself helpless to stop events from unfolding in eerily similar ways. Decent enough film, but no great shakes.

enjoyable fantasy

I happen to like this movie very much. It was done in the '80s when beautiful clothes, beautiful people, and big budgets were the rage. The film, a remake of the 1947 "Repeat Performance" is about a woman (Connie Selleca) who gets her New Year's wish and is able to repeat the previous year.

This gives her a chance to undo the horror of the previous one that ends with the shooting of her husband. I'm not giving anything away here - the shooting is the first frame.

Well, you know how these things go. Though events take a different route, the dominoes start falling and head toward disaster. The ending, however, is interesting.

The cast is attractive - Selleca, David Dukes, Gene Barry, Dina Merrill, Jere Burns, and Wendy Kilbourne. Joan Leslie, who starred in "Repeat Performance," plays a party guest.

A nice, relaxing watch.
