Following his collapse at a nightclub in Los Angeles early Sunday morning, Lamar Odom‘s health seems to be taking a turn for the worst.

A source close to Lamar tells People, “Lamar is spiraling again. He’s out of control.”

The source continued, saying, “He was better this spring but things got worse over the summer and everyone is worried things are going to get even worse and they’re scared for him.”

Once breathing and heartbeat ceases in a patient, they are considered to be clinically dead. However, thanks to the wonders of medical science – and sometimes sheer dumb luck – death is sometimes a reversible condition. The people that come back from the dead often return with fascinating and sometimes chilling stories of their encounter with the great beyond.

There are many common elements that often feature in Near Death Experiences (or NDEs), including white lights, floating, tunnels, out-of-body experiences, feelings of peace, love and safety, feelings of fear or loneliness, encounters with deceased relatives and religious experiences to name but a few.

Scientists are unsure as to why these experiences occur, but it is likely that they are the body’s response to extreme trauma in one way or another.

This morning in Rome, Biennale president Paolo Baratta and Venice Film Festival chief Alberto Barbera unveiled the lineup for the 71st Venice Film Festival, which features some extraordinarily exciting titles and intriguingly under-the-radar picks.

Twenty films will be competing in the main competition, 19 of which are world premieres with one international premiere out of the lot. Out of all the titles at Venice this year, Birdman, which stars Michael Keaton and features a star-studded cast including Zach Galifianakis, Edward Norton, Andrea Riseborough, Amy Ryan, Emma Stone and Naomi Watts, is undoubtedly the title with the most chance of gaining Oscar attention this year after making the rounds on the festival circuit (it’s heading to the Toronto International Film Festival next).

Also anticipated are Manglehorn, a collaboration between Prince Avalanche helmer David Gordon Green and Al Pacino, and Andrew Niccol’s Good Kill, with Ethan Hawke, Bruce Greenwood, January Jones and Zoe Kravitz.

The 71st Venice Film Festival announced its lineup this morning, highlighted by films from American directors, including David Gordon Green, Barry Levinson, Peter Bogdanovich, Lisa Cholodenko, Andrew Niccol, and James Franco. As had been previously announced, Alejandro González Iñárritu’s Birdman, starring Michael Keaton and many others, will be the opening film when the festival begins on Aug. 27.

This morning came the announcement of the 2014 Venice Film Festival lineup and we already knew Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's Birdman would serve as the opening night film and for the most part a lot of the more recognizable entries are those we already discussed as part of the Toronto Film Festival lineup. The Venice Film Festival’s Horizons section (aka Orizzonti) is logically comparable to Cannes’ Un Certain Regard section. What happens after a Near Death Experience? In director Tom Lewis' The Periphery, a ghost returns from the other side. The Periphery is a psychological horror title, which will have its premiere June 3rd, 2014, at the Dances with Films festival. This indie horror title stars Nick Clark (The Girls Guide to Depravity), Andrew Olson (1000 Ways to Die) and Kristen StephensonPino. A trailer and movie poster for the feature are hosted here. For more on the story, The Periphery begins with an Nde and ends with the character Cassie Stevens (StephensonPino). Cassie is dealing with head trauma, while seeing strange visions. A ghost appears out of the corner of Cassie's eye, but what is this vision? Cassie must seek help, or lose any sense of sanity. The World Premiere for The Periphery will take place in Hollywood, California. Here, the film will play at the Tcl Chinese Theatre, at 9:00pm.

In what has to be the fastest trial I’ve ever heard of, Chris Pine was convicted of DUI in New Zealand. The actor was arrested last week after a wrap party. His lawyer argued he had a clean record, and that a conviction would make getting a visa difficult for the actor. The judge wasn’t buying it though. “This issue of a visa will be a complication, but you’re no different to other people who may wish to travel to Canada.” Pine still stopped outside the courthouse to sign autographs for fans.

Fox has made this clear from the beginning, as evidenced by the episode title, promo, photos and now a sneak preview below, in which the incident takes place at the hands of an unknown assailant.

Luckily, Booth arrives at the Jeffersonian just moments later to find her critically injured. As he frantically tries to help however he can, he urges her to fight. Earlier, they had a fight of their own.

In a second clip from the episode, we see Brennan shoot down Booth's idea for them to take Christine to a cabin in the woods, which he criticizes for; she then leaves for the lab, at night. Alone.

This week sees P. David Ebersole's grunge rock documentary Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel (2011) finally unleashed in cinemas across the UK. Detailing the life of Hole drummer Patty Schemel, the film takes an unflinching look at her time in one of rock's most notorious and controversial bands, placing Schemel's personal archive footage alongside interviews with her former band mates Eric Erlandson, Melissa Auf der Maur and, of course, Courtney Love. Fortunately, CineVue was able to catch up with bass player Auf der Maur to get her personal take on her time with Hole, life on the road and Ebersole's depiction of one of the most turbulent periods in music history.

Having spent the best part of a decade as one quarter of iconic Us grunge rock band Hole, the outfit's drummer Patty Schemel has finally emerged from behind the kit and out of the shadows to take the lead role in P. David Ebersole's entertaining rockumentary Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel (2011). Detailing her tempestuous time in the Courtney Love-fronted Hole and various issues with substance abuse, the film is comprised of some Schemel's most personal archive footage, along with interviews with the rest of the band and those closes to her. Yet it's (finally) Hole drummer Patty Schemel that takes centre stage in P. David Ebersole's Hit So Hard: The Life and Near Death Story of Patty Schemel (2011). Part character study of the film's titular star, part documentary on Us grunge outfit Hole, Hit So Hard offers a fascinating insight into the many trials and tribulations of being one quarter of one of rock's most notoriously excessive, on-the-nose bands.

Near Death is one of the spate of high-quality comic books Image has been cranking out over the past couple of years, and I finally did myself the favor of reading it. Of course, now it appears the series has gone on hiatus just as I am getting on board (sad trombone). Fingers crossed that it starts up again and soon, but in the meantime, Near Death is a nice little jumping-off point for talking about comics for comics’ sake.

As life-long and deeply devoted supporter of the medium, I often bristle at the crossover into other media. Case in point: I work a couple days a week down at my local comics shop, which is next to a Papa John’s franchise. A couple years back, one of the pizzeria employees ducked her head in, as she would, and asked us if we had seen the new Ghost Rider movie.

The 6th annual Sydney Underground Film Festival is taking over all three screens of the Factory Theatre for a blow-out four-day event on Sept. 6-9.

Making it’s World Premiere at the fest on the 8th is the highly anticipated President Wolfman, the latest “green movie” by director Mike Davis that he’s cobbled together from public domain footage and feature films and set to an outrageous new soundtrack. The film looks like it promises to be a rollicking good time.

Other highlights of the fest include Guy Maddin‘s latest trippy film noir, Keyhole, about a mobster revisiting his homestead’s old memories; Bob Ray‘s documentary about Austin, Texas’ homegrown Total Badass; Bobcat Goldthwait’s media takedown God Bless America; Michal Kosakowski’s underground murder fantasy documentary hit Zero Killed; Richard Griffin’s funky The Disco Exorcist; and more.

It’s hard to judge Futurama and the stories it’s been telling this season, and part of the reason for that is a renewed focus on characters and sentiment over wacky plotlines or tired TV tropes.

That’s not to say "Near Death Wish" lost what makes Futurama so great because that couldn’t be farther from the truth. The show’s theme and setup allow plenty of goof ball humor and fun to be had.

Nevertheless, in many ways, the core group of characters and their business forms a surrogate family (minus the blood ties between Professor and Fry), and it’s sometimes forgotten that these characters do have to come from somewhere and someone. So, to learn a little bit more about the Professor and his upbringing added some dimensionality to his character where they might otherwise be none.

Sean Kingston has marked the first anniversary of his near-fatal jet ski crash in Florida. Hit So Hard: The Life & Near Death Story of Drummer Patty Schemel is a 2011 biographical documentary film that chronicles the to-hell-and-back journey of Patty Schemel, drummer for Courtney Love’s band Hole.

Directed and co-written by P. David Ebersole, the movie offers audiences a chronicle of life as a rock star in the 1990s from Schemel’s point of view – at band practice, on the road, backstage, performing in front of millions of people and partying after the gig is through. It also reveals the story of the drug addiction and other problems that consumed Schemel and almost took her life.

Patty Schemel is best remembered as the drummer of the alternative rock group Hole, fronted by erstwhile alt-queen rocker, now-notorious loudmouth Courtney Love. For top level context, Schemel laid the thunderous beat on both of Hole’s most popular and well-known records, including 1994’s Live Through This, which was released just four days after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, was found dead in their home. This is all well-documented. What only the most hardcore of rock aficionados will remember was that Schemel’s drum parts on 1997’s follow-up record Celebrity Skin were replaced by a session drummer at the behest of producer Michael Beinhorn (knob-twiddler for records like Soundgarden's Superunknown, Red Hot Chili Peppers' Mother's Milk and Grave Dancers Union by Soul Asylum).

After so many years on the air, the "One Tree Hill" set functions like a well-oiled machine, and rarely do members of the press factor into that. To say that we were thrilled when Zap2it was invited to Wilmington, Nc to watch a bit of filming for the final season of the show is an understatement.

We visited while cast member Austin Nichols was directing the 7th episode of the season, and our first day on set afforded us the chance to watch Bethany Joy Galeotti film emotional scenes with her returning pal Chad Michael Murray. Yes, Lucas and Haley's BFFdom has endured despite his absence (and the fact that he never returned any of her letters -- a fact that plagued Murray a bit when he read the script).
