- There is an unrated director's cut available which features the infamous "bandsaw lobotomy" where a character's head is inserted into a high powered meat slicer.
- When the Colourbox video was eventually submitted to the BBFC in 1989 it was then cut by 1 min 53 secs. The cuts were later fully waived for the 2003 DVD release.
- Originally banned in Australia with a 'Refused Classification', it was later censored by 1 minute for an 'R'. For the CIC-TAFT Video release, it was heavily censored by 4 minutes to ...
- The spike going into Danny's (Eugene Robert Glazer) eye.
- Joe (Ted Raimi) slowly falling to the floor after he has been stabbed in the head.
- The stabbing of the checkout girl has been shortened, especially the blood spray.
- All shots of Bub (Burr Steers) getting his head crushed are missing.
- Randy (Sam Raimi) hanging up with a hook through his face.
- After Dave (Billy Marti) falls down the ladder there is a missing shot of the store owner with bleeding eyes.
- Dave's death on the band-saw, where his face is cut in two, has been removed. The VHS only shows him being put on the saw and then the scene ends. This is the longest cut in the VHS.
- Jennifer (Elizabeth Cox) discovers Randy's hanging body. The shot of him with a hook through his face (same as 48:30) has been removed.
- Another shot of Randy's body has been removed as Jennifer pulls the door closed and fights the killer with a hook. The part where she pulls his body against the door, to stop him from getting in, has been toned down.
- The head falling off the body as it comes down the conveyor belt while Jennifer screams.
- Jennifer finds Dave's band-saw cut head in the fridge. This is totally missing from the VHS and it goes from her running down the corridor and cuts directly to the cops arriving at the door.
- The bread man (Scott Spiegel) being stabbed in the back has been toned down.
- The killer holding up the severed head, kissing it and grabbing the knife in his hand.
- The killer hitting Craig (David Byrnes) with the severed head.
- Craig chopping the killer with a machete has almost all been removed.
- German version is cut by approx. 9 minutes to get the "Not under 18" rating from FSK. Uncut release of the movie is SPIO/JK indexed.
- The VHS released by Paramount removes almost all of the gore to obtain an "R" rating. The Uncut version was released for the first time by Wizard Video on DVD and later Synapse on Blu-ray.
- An uncut, time-coded preview copy was offered to UK video distributors back in 1990. It's about 90 seconds longer than the R-rated cut, and pratically ALL murder-sequences feature extensive gore. Some bootleg copies (sometimes third or fourth generation copies) can be found in the UK, the Netherlands and Belgium.
- The unrated director's cut of Intruder was released in Sweden 1998 by the company House of Horror (cat no EVIL 006)
- The uncut director's edition was released in Ireland, back in 1989, by Colourbox. It carries a note saying it is illegal in the rest of the United Kingdom (UK). This features all the murder scenes UNCUT, from the bandsaw labotomy to the eye impaling.
- There is also a Chinese Full Uncut and Unrated Video Tape, which offers a very nice video cover which shows nearly every violent scene of the movie. There's also a German Full uncut and Unrated DVD from Dragon Film. with an English language soundtrack.
