Marvel Studios has conditioned audiences to stay through the end credits and “Thunderbolts*” is no different.
The latest MCU entry unites a ragtag band of misfits, led by Black Widow Yelena (Florence Pugh) and including Bucky (Sebastian Stan), the Red Guardian (David Harbour), U.S. Agent (Wyatt Russell), Taskmaster (Olga Kurylenko) and Ghost (Hannah John-Kamen) as they face a bigger, badder threat that will take all of them, working together, to take it down. “Thunderbolts*” is one of the better Marvel movies of the past few years, full of inventiveness and a shocking frankness when it comes to discussions of mental health and depression, and the story doesn’t end when the credits start. But that is a pretty good place to begin.
Let’s talk about the movie’s post-credits scenes.
Major spoiler warning. If you haven’t seen the movie, go watch it. It’s good to get out of the house.

When a satire of the movie industry takes a big swing, it can succeed only if it connects in a piercingly funny and bold way. It has to offer us an eye-opening new take on how Hollywood works. And that’s the bar “The Studio” has set for itself. I think Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Apple TV+ series about the inner workings of a contemporary movie studio triumphantly clears that bar. “The Studio” isn’t just addictively entertaining — it’s wickedly perceptive. It has a bead on the film business today like nothing you’ve seen. Yet the series, which just aired its sixth episode (there are four more to go), has come in for some dismissals. That’s partly because of its in-your-face style, which some find obnoxious.
Yet it’s also because there are viewers who look at the show and see something broad and derivative rather than new and insightful.

[Editor’s note: This review was originally published on March 7, 2025, as part of our SXSW coverage. It has been updated for the series’ official streaming premiere.]
Less than six months after HBO released “The Franchise,” a Hollywood satire told from the perspective of a beleaguered film crew, and a little more than a year since Max wrapped “The Other Two,” a Hollywood satire told from the perspective of two siblings desperate to break big, Apple TV+ takes its turn reveling in the desirable and derisible business of film, only its new series, “The Studio,” makes the curious choice to focus on the trials and tribulations of the man at the top. Well, almost at the top. One of the tops anyway.
Seth Rogen (who also co-created the series and co-directs every episode with his friend and business partner Evan Goldberg) plays Matt Remick, a long-suffering studio executive who finally ascends to his dream job: the president of Continental Studios. Matt made a name for himself by championing an original superhero franchise, “Mk Ultra,” which has grossed $3.9 billion across several feature films.

Quick LinksSeverance Lifts Its Episode Title Directly from a Classic Twilight Zone EpisodeWhat Does the Moment in Severence's 'The After Hours' Mean? How the Mannequin Episode of The Twilight Zone Relates to Severance
This article contains spoilers for Severance Season 2, Episode 9, "The After Hours," streaming on Apple TV+
Asthe second season of the hit series Severance draws to a close, its penultimate episode makes an explicit reference to a classic installment of The Twilight Zone. Both episodes are titled "The After Hours," and they deal with disconnected identities and what it means to be human. However, just what this reference means in the narrative world created by Dan Erickson is an open question and feels very significant.
Despite its truly original concepts, Severance draws inspiration from other shows like Black Mirror. However, all of them owe a debt to the groundbreaking institution created by Rod Serling with The Twilight Zone.

A great performance at SXSW can happen anywhere: An official showcase at a downtown venue, an unofficial get-together at an East Side bar, a shindig thrown by a third-party political group, or all of the above. Here are the best things we saw on Wednesday, March 12, at SXSW 2025.

Reader, you have been lied to! Film history is littered with unfairly maligned classics, whether critics were too eager to review the making of rather than the finished product, or they suffered from underwhelming ad campaigns or general disinterest. Let’s revise our takes on some of these films from wrongheaded to the correct opinion.
When “Madhouse,” a comedy about a happily married couple besieged by out of control house guests, was released in early 1990, it met with immediate hostility from critics. How hostile were they? So hostile that “Madhouse” is currently in the select group of movies sitting uncomfortably at 0% on Rotten Tomatoes, not a single positive review to its name.
The irony is that not only is “Madhouse” not bad, it’s great. And not only great, but all-time great, a comedy so flawless in its construction and so precise in its timing that it ranks alongside the best work of Howard Hawks,...

Diane Warren was denied an Oscar for the 16th time Sunday, after losing in the Best Original Song category to Emilia Pérez‘s “El Mal.” Warren, who was nominated for The Six Triple Eight‘s “The Journey,” wasn’t deterred by the loss, she told Variety. “I’m consistent as fuck,” Warren said. “You know, it is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”
Warren said she believed she had a fair chance at the 97th Oscars. H.E.R., an Oscar-winning artist, performed “The Journey,” and the Netflix-distributed...

Recognition is extremely important for artists who work hard year after year to produce music that resonates with listeners and makes them feel all the feels. And when you’re denied that recognition time and time again, demotivation is just around the corner. Who would know this better than Diane Warren, the songwriter who is yet to add an Oscar to her trophy collection despite being nominated a whopping sixteen times.
Songwriter, Diane Warren | Credits: @dianewarren / Instagram
If you think about it, the odds should’ve been in her favor. After all, you’ve got to win once out of the 16 times you’ve been nominated, right? Unfortunately for Diane Warren, the Academy hasn’t been on her side since 1988.

The Oscar winner for Best Original Song, as predicted by Gold Derby's odds, was "El Mal" from Emilia Pérez. It was written by Camille and Clément Ducol, who also composed the film's score, and the film's director, Jacques Audiard. It's the first Oscar win for all three songwriters. Unfortunately, that meant a 16th loss for Diane Warren, who was nominated for penning "The Journey" from The Six Triple Eight and to date still hasn't won a competitive Oscar.
This year's Oscar race started at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards last fall, and it was a good night for Emilia Pérez, which won Best Music Themed Film, Biopic, or Musical; Best Song — Onscreen Performance (for Zoe Saldaña singing "El Mal"); and Best Score — Feature Film. However, "El Mal" didn't win Best Song - Feature Film. That was Warren for "The Journey," while "Never Too Late" was named the best song from a documentary.

Andrew McCarthy‘s recent documentary “Brats,” about his time as a teen idol in the 1980s alongside peers like Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, and Ally Sheedy, charted the actor’s path from irritation and outright hostility toward the “brat pack” label to grudging affection, as he recognized that the movies he looked down on while he was doing them — films like “St. Elmo’s Fire,” “Less Than Zero,” and “Mannequin” — meant more to an entire generation of filmgoers than more “serious” prestige fare like “The Falcon and the Snowman” ever could.
The danger for those of us who grew up on the movies is that the trajectory will be reversed — that films that seemed meaningful to our teenage eyes aren’t really all that great when viewed outside the lens of indulgent childhood nostalgia. Yet revisiting one of McCarthy’s most popular films via a new 4K Uhd release...

Even before meeting Peter Tothpal, one senses that he will be effusive and buoyant — you don’t repeatedly work with as many A-listers as he did throughout his career as a hairstylist without bringing a certain ebulliency to set.
“I’m just a happy camper,” he told IndieWire regarding his recently announced Lifetime Achievement honor from the MUAHs Guild Awards. “I’m always looking at the bright side, and it worked out for me. I feel very lucky to be able to work with the people who I really like.”
That attitude isn’t just the side effect of being feted for his career; Jennifer Garner singled it out as one of the main reasons she always requested Tothpal for her projects. “ It’s hard to talk about Peter without talking about his affable, easygoing, warm [personality],” she told IndieWire. “He has an Eq of about a million. I’m distraught that he’s retiring.

With her nomination this year for “The Journey” from the Netflix historical drama The Six Triple Eight, Diane Warren has now contended 16 times at the Oscars, including the last eight years in a row, for Best Original Song. But the veteran artist — who has a Grammy, an Emmy, and two Golden Globes in her trophy case — has yet to score a competitive Oscar. Could this be her year?
Warren does, however, have an Honorary Oscar, which she collected in 2022 for her impressive body of work. That made her the first and currently only songwriter to receive that recognition from the Motion Picture Academy.

In the gaming industry, redemption stories are about as common as day-one patches. Some games stumble at launch, pick themselves up, dust off their code, and carry on. Others face-plant so spectacularly that their recovery becomes the stuff of legend. No Man’s Sky definitely started in the latter category.

The Silent Hill 2 remake introduces the redesign of horror-evoking enemies that players first encountered with the original release back in 2001. Damien Thorn is the Antichrist, and the trilogy that tells his unholy tale remains popular almost fifty years later. Indeed, while putting together this movie ranked list and revisiting the original Omen franchise, we were surprised at how well the old movies held up. Omen fans will be happy that the series has been restarted in a pretty interesting way earlier this year, with The First Omen a surprisingly excellent prequel to the original trilogy (check out our interviews with the director and cast here), even if it takes one large liberty involving Damien’s birth that some fans may have an issue with. So, how do the Omen films rank against each other? Let’s take a look, but remember that the TV series Damien (which lasted for one season in 2016) is not included, as we’re sticking with feature films.
The Omen (2006)
There’s honestly no reason for this movie to exist.

Diane Warren hopes “The Six Triple Eight” could finally be her one.
The 15-time Oscar nominee and an honorary Oscar recipient in 2022 wrote a new song for Tyler Perry’s upcoming World War II drama. The track is featured in the film and called “The Journey.” Oscar and Grammy winner H.E.R. performs Warren’s new song with choreography by Emmy and Tony Award winner Debbie Allen.
Based on an article by Kevin M. Hymel written for World War II Magazine, “The Six Triple Eight” is “inspired by the first and only Women’s Army Corps unit of color to serve overseas in WWII.” Netflix will release the project in select theaters in early December before it arrives on the streaming platform beginning December 20.
According to Netflix, “Despite facing racism and sexism – and grueling working conditions — the Women’s Army Corps unit of color was committed to serving their country with honor and distinction.

Plot: In the mid-eighties, a group of young actors known for starring in movies like St Elmo’s Fire and The Breakfast Club became popularly known as The Brat Pack, but many members of that group felt the term torpedoed their careers.
Review: If you grew up in the eighties, you for sure knew what the name “The Brat Pack” meant. I was born in ’81 and only watched the movies this gang was known for in the nineties, but if you had asked me as a kid who was in The Brat Pack, I probably still would have been able to list them off by name. There was Emilio Estevez (a recent Wtf Happened to this Celebrity pick), Rob Lowe, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald, Demi Moore, Anthony Michael Hall, Ally Sheedy, and Andrew McCarthy. Some of them became enduring stars, and some didn’t. For those whose fame perhaps didn’t endure beyond the eighties,...

It’s often hard to pinpoint the precise origin of a cultural phenomenon. The opposite is true when it comes to Hollywood’s Brat Pack. The catchy moniker that came to define the ’80s cineplex can be traced to June 10, 1985, when New York Magazine published a cover story pegged to the release of “St. Elmo’s Fire.” The piece, written by David Blum, followed three of the film’s stars — Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe and Judd Nelson — over several nights of heavy boozing and douchey antics, like ogling Playmates, encouraging groupies and trash-talking their rivals. Blum dubbed the group of young movie stars the “Brat Pack,” a phrase still recognizable four decades later.
The trio’s “St. Elmo’s Fire” co-star Andrew McCarthy remembers the exact moment when the film’s producer, Lauren Shuler Donner, burst into an office on the Paramount lot waving a copy of the magazine. At first glance,...

Every year, a different group of people win an Academy Award. And every year, the same woman doesn’t. Her name is Diane Warren, she’s one of the greatest American songwriters of the last several decades, and she’s now been nominated 15 times without taking home a single competitive Oscar.
Once upon a time, that lack of recognition was regrettable because Warren had penned some of the most immortal tracks in the modern history of the Best Original Song category, including “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Us Now” from “Mannequin,” “How Do I Live” from “Con Air,” and the epochal “I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing” from “Armageddon.” These days, the fact that Warren hasn’t won is mostly regrettable because she refuses to stop trying.

Mannequin Pussy’s I Got Heaven represents a number of notable firsts for the Philly band: It’s their first studio album in five years, their first with guitarist Maxine Steen, and the first they’ve written together as a unit in the studio. But I Got Heaven isn’t so much a reinvention as it is a reinvigoration—a doubling down on all of the things that make Mannequin Pussy one of the most electrifying rock bands working right now.
I Got Heaven feels at once spontaneous and meticulous, no doubt owing to the collaborative writing process and the steady hand of producer John Congleton. For the way they mix elements of hardcore, shoegaze, and power pop across their music, Mannequin Pussy have long defied strict categorization. And reflective of the band’s penchant for blurring genres, the new album remains fiercely focused on its singular theme of freedom.

Music was a significant theme throughout One Tree Hill, with famous artists and bands making cameos at Tric, the all-ages nightclub in Tree Hill. Each episode was named after a song, band, artist, or album, highlighting the importance of music in the show. Musicians like Pete Wentz, Lupe Fiasco, and Jack's Mannequin appeared on the show, showcasing their talent and contributing to One Tree Hill's musical atmosphere.
Throughout all nine seasons of One Tree Hill, music was one of the most significant themes due to the characters' jobs and passions. As a result, many musical guests made cameos on the teen drama television series. Diane Warren has written hit songs for the soundtracks to movies from Mannequin to Armageddon. She has three original songs in 2023 movies, but her song for Flamin’ Hot is especially personal. Warren said she wrote “The Fire Inside” because she related to the movie’s subject.
Flamin’ Hot is inspired by the story of Richard Montañez, who’s said to have invented Flamin’ Hot Cheetos while working as a janitor at Frito-Lay. Eva Longoria directed the film.
“It’s such the American dream,” Warren said Thursday at Deadline’s Sound and Screen event. “When I wrote the song, it was kind of like my anthem too. The fire inside is a double entendre.”
On the surface, Montañez was motivated by the spice of Latin food. But Warren said the real fire inside is the passion any artist has to persevere.

The film Don’t Look Away, directed by Michael Bafaro, is disastrous! It stitches together bits and pieces of the plots from other films like It Follows, Don’t Breathe, and others, which is quite evident. The slasher/gore film revolves around a deadly mannequin who murders people for its own satisfaction. There is, however, no plot built up based on the series of events, and a killer mannequin randomly embarks on a murderous expedition. Frankie, the protagonist, gets to see the mannequin first, and then her friends, who lay their eyes on it, get killed one after another. Starring Kelly Bastard, Colm Hill, Karina Frislev, Michael Bafaro, and others, there is zero character development in the film, which, to some extent, affects their acting skills. Does any of the friends find a way out of the murder spree of the mannequin? What was its motive? Let us try to find some answers to these questions.

When Mannequin was originally released in 1987, the critics were not kind. In fact, they were pretty savage in their near-unanimous hatred for the film. That didn’t stop it from being a modest box-office hit, though — and in the decades that followed, it managed to pick up new fans, some drawn to the film’s romance, some drawn to the film’s stars, and some who subscribe to the “so bad it’s good” school of cult cinema. At a fan event, McCarthy said he realized he wouldn’t be getting an Oscar nomination for Mannequin, but he wound up loving the experience nonetheless. Back in 2019, indie rock-focused record label Tiny Engines essentially shuttered after a number of its artists accused them of payment issues and breach of contract — which co-founder Chuck Daley admitted to. Now, co-founder Will Miller has announced that he’s reviving the label as its sole owner under a “new management structure.”
In a statement shared to Tiny Engines’ Twitter Friday, Miller wrote that he’s “committed to making sure artists and their records are being cared for properly and treated with the required respect,” as well as “ensur[ing] that artists are being paid what they are owed.”
The statement clarifies that all accounting between the label and its artists has been completed, with all artists having now been paid in full. Additionally, 80% of the label’s masters ownership contracts have now been amended to licensing contracts — with the remaining 20% scheduled for completion by the end of 2023 — meaning the label...
