Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in November 2024
Image
October was huge for Disney+ and Hulu — but which month isn’t? After the weekly installments of “Agatha All Along” and the staple that is Huluween, the bundled streamers gear up for winter programming this November.

Disney+ continues to be the home for live episodes of “Dancing With the Stars” and the original series “Ayla & The Mirrors,” which continues to air new episodes. Along with new children’s programming and holiday specials like “An Almost Christmas Story,” the streamer will premiere “The Music of John Williams” on November 1, celebrating the acclaimed film composer and his decades-long career with new footage and interviews from those he worked with and inspired.

It’s another big month for movies coming to Hulu, as well as beloved shows like “Ally McBeal” (complete series). Stay tuned for an adaptation of Charles Yu’s “Interior Chinatown” and the docuseries “It’s All Country,” as well as...

Keeping up the laughs, the streamer will also have the Season 5 premiere of the adult animated series “Solar Opposites,” in addition to new additions to its growing comedy collection with new and classic specials from Kumail Nanjiani, Wanda Sykes, Eddie Murphy, Nick Kroll, Lewis Black, Sasheer Zamata, and more.

Everything Coming to Hulu and Disney+ in August 2024
Image
If you’re like me, you spend a lot of August yelling “Summer is over!” to your nearest and dearest — and they don’t take kindly to that. Summer TV is in its twilight, while fall premieres loom on the horizon after the Emmy Awards on September 15.

But summer is not over, and there’s plenty of new titles to stream in the Disney bundle. Disney+ will premiere new Star Wars and “Winnie the Pooh” titles for kids, as well as the original series “Are You Sure?!” following BTS’s Jimin and Jung Kook. Hulu will become home to “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” “The Woman King,” “Smile,” and more movie titles, as well as the home for FX series — this month: “The New York Times Presents: Lie to Fly: Documentary Premiere.” Hulu originals “Solar Opposites” returns on August 12, and “Reasonable Doubt” for its second season starting August...

Bill Cosby Saw Eddie Murphy As ‘Threat’ in the 1980s
Image
Richard Pryor gave Eddie Murphy a hard time later in his career — right? At least, that’s the story The New York Times’ David Marchese tried to confirm with Murphy in a recent podcast interview. Murphy vehemently disagreed. “No, he didn’t,” insisted the Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F star. “Bill Cosby gave me a hard time.”

When Murphy was hitting it big on Saturday Night Live and the movies, Cosby was arguably still the bigger star. The Cosby Show was “TV’s biggest hit in the 1980s,” said TV Guide, arguing that it also breathed new life into the dying sitcom format. Cosby should have been a comedy elder statesman, but from the sound of things, America’s Dad didn’t appreciate the competition from the upstart Murphy.

Ostensibly, clean comic Cosby disapproved of Murphy’s liberal use of profanity in his stand-up act, but “it wasn’t so...

These Underrated Jurassic Park Performances Aren't Talked About Nearly Enough
Image
One thing that distinguishes 1993's Jurassic Park from a host of other Steven Spielberg films from the late 1980s and early 1990s is the cast. Unlike most blockbusters of the period, Spielberg opted to stay away from big names: Sam Neill's most prominent Hollywood role prior to his outing as Alan Grant had been opposite Sean Connery as the second-in-command of a Soviet submarine in The Hunt for Red October (1990), while Laura Dern – now bona fide Hollywood royalty – had only lately come to prominence with performances in dramas such as Fat Man and Little Boy (1989) and Rambling Rose (1991).

This approach extended to the film's supporting cast, with only Richard Attenborough (Hammond) and, to a lesser extent, a pre-Independence Day Jeff Goldblum (Malcolm) having big-name recognition. It's no wonder that three other members of the cast get surprisingly little acknowledgment from audiences – despite the fact that their pitch-perfect work in...

Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart in Me Time (2022)
‘Me Time’ Film Review: Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg Buddy Comedy Sours Into Pointless Netflix Product Placement
Mark Wahlberg and Kevin Hart in Me Time (2022)
Cinema purists may be loath to admit it, but there are certain advantages to streaming a movie over going to a theater. You’re in the comfort of your own home, for example. So when you’re watching a film like “Me Time” and you feel like walking out, there’s no shame in that. You don’t have to get up and gather your things and excuse yourself in front of a crowd. You can just press a couple of buttons and watch “Bridgerton” instead.

That may sound like a burn but, to be fair, the characters in “Me Time” would also rather be watching “Bridgerton.” Fifteen minutes into this Netflix exclusive, Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, who play the married couple Sonny and Maya Fisher, get into an argument because they were supposed to watch the Netflix exclusive “Bridgerton” together. Instead, she watched it with someone else on a business trip.

Netflix Added 34 New Movies/TV Shows Today To Kick Off 2021
Image
It’s finally time to start shedding off the terrible year of 2020 and begin thinking positively about 2021, and Netflix is making that fairly easy by starting the new year off the right way. With its first content drop of the month, the world’s most popular streaming service is proving how it got that title with a massive selection of movies and shows that are certain to tickle the fancy of subscribers looking for new stuff to watch.

If you’re a fan of Robert Downey Jr., today is a really great day for you, as the prolific actor has had two additions added to Netflix in a single drop. His 2009 take on the world’s most popular detective can be seen in the simply-titled Sherlock Holmes, and you can also catch him as a doctor in the 2003 supernatural thriller Gothika.

Meanwhile, some other big drama and suspense films have also dropped on the service,...

Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (2020)
New on Netflix: January 2021 Releases
Jurassic World Camp Cretaceous (2020)
The first month of a new year is a good time to make a new impression. And that’s just what Netflix seems set on doing with its list of new releases for January 2021.

The streamer is coming out strong with a third season of Cobra Kai, formerly of YouTube Premium. The next installment in Daniel Larusso and Johnny Lawrence’s story is set to arrive…eventually. Netflix has not unveiled a released date yet but it will be during this month. While Cobra Kai is the highlight among Netflix’ original series, it’s not the only one by a long shot. Last year’s fun Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous returns for a second season on Jan. 22 and it will be accompanied by Fate: The Winx Saga. Also, if you’re a fan of things that will one day be .gif’ed to death, the Nicolas Cage-hosted History of Swear Words drops on Jan.

Netflix Is Adding A Ton Of Original Movies/TV Shows Next Month
January is usually referred to as the theatrical industry’s dumping ground, where projects destined to fail are shoved out into the world to die a slow and painful death at the box office. Obviously, next month could see almost every new release face a similar fate as business is still showing no signs of recovery, but Netflix are looking to buck the trend and rehabilitate January’s reputation as a safe haven for fresh content, and the streaming service have some major original movies and TV shows on the horizon.

The most exciting without a doubt is History of Swear Words, which sees Nicolas Cage hosting a six-episode series that delves into the origins and multiple uses of profanity. Anyone who doesn’t have their curiosity immediately piqued by the idea of Hollywood’s most manic and memeable actor fronting a show where the episodes are titled “F*ck...

Link Tank: Eight Facts About Eddie Murphy

The deforestation of the Amazonian rainforest has been linked to a disease without a vaccine.

"Illegal logging and pervasive wildfires are just a couple of the dangers facing the Amazon rainforest, a global bed of biodiversity and carbon sequestration. The consequences of this deforestation are as local as rising temperatures in Brazil and as distant as blooms of Sargassum seaweed in the Virgin Islands. Now scientists say we should add malaria to that list."

Justin Chon, David So, Curtiss Cook Jr., Simone Baker, and Omono Okojie in Gook (2017)
‘Gook’ Review: Justin Chon Delivers a Powerfully Unsubtle Drama for Painfully Unsubtle Times
Justin Chon, David So, Curtiss Cook Jr., Simone Baker, and Omono Okojie in Gook (2017)
Almost certainly the most confrontational film about the Asian-American experience since “Better Luck Tomorrow,” Justin Chon’s “Gook” is about as subtle as a trash can smashing through a pizzeria window, but this isn’t a story for subtle times. Set on April 29, 1992 — the first night of the Los Angeles Riots — it’s not a story about subtle times, either. On the contrary, this messy but lived-in drama is intended for a climate that’s tilted towards hatred and erasure, an environment in which people are forced to scream their voices hoarse just to remind the world of their basic humanity. You don’t call a movie “Gook” because you feel heard.

A frequently angry call to action that’s shot in spare black-and-white (all the better to evoke the scrappy kind of indies that were arriving on the scene back in the “Clerks” era), “Gook” hinges on two normal Korean-American guys.

Raoul Peck’s documentary about the life and work of James Baldwin is a stunning tribute to the writer’s vital work. Even thirty years after his death, Baldwin’s words still cut to the heart of issues confronting American society. With performances of Baldwin’s writing from narrator Samuel L. Jackson, Peck provides a deeply human gateway to understanding the achievements and contributions of a man who still has much to say about how our country understands race.

Two new indie distributors injected some life into the specialty box office this weekend with two unconventional releases.

Both “Colossal” (Neon Films) and Japanese anime smash “Your Name.” (FUNimation) rode positive reviews to strong box office. With more conventional World War II drama “Their Finest” (Stx), three films from non-establishment distributors show impressive arthouse strength.

Jessica Chastain vehicle “The Zookeeper’s Wife,” shaping up to be the biggest specialty release so far this year, justified its initial wider run with a solid second weekend.

The only one to see much traction was “Alive and Kicking” (Magnolia), directed by specialty industry veteran Susan Glatzer, marking an unusual documentary presentation from Blumhouse Productions. ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Will Battle ‘Logan’ To Be King of the Box Office
Hugh Jackman in Logan (2017)
With $88 million last weekend, “Logan” (20th Century Fox) made the case for a March box office rebound. “Kong: Skull Island” (Universal) should maintain that momentum, though not at quite the same level.

With a production cost of $190 million (double the “Logan” pricetag), “Kong” will need major worldwide appeal to justify the expense. Produced by the now-Chinese-owned Legendary Pictures, who are coming off the shaky “The Great Wall,” the new film ticks all the boxes for a hit.

It’s a massive production, familiar enough for traction but still fresh (particularly for foreign viewers), and sufficiently similar to other hits (see: “Jurassic Park” franchise). And, there’s enough intelligence in the directing and acting talent to suggest a good critical reaction. The director is Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who made his debut at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival with “The Kings of Summer;” the cast includes Tom Hiddleston, Oscar-winner Brie Larson, John C. Reilly,...

The Weekend Warrior 3/10/17: Kong: Skull Island, Brimstone, Canners
Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out….but mostly movies.

This Past Weekend:

It was absolutely no surprise that Hugh Jackman’s last Wolverine movie Logan would top the box office, but it actually ended up doing even better than my prediction when actual numbers came in, grossing $88.3 million over the weekend. That makes it the fourth highest X-Movie opening (including Deadpool) but also the biggest R-rated opening for March, defeating 300’s once-impressive $70 million opening. It’s also the fourth highest R-rated opening of all time after Deadpool, The Matrix Reloaded and American Sniper.

The bigger surprise was how well Jordan Peele’s thriller Get Out held up in its second weekend, not only because it was going up against Logan, but also because high-profile horror films tend...

Top 10 Box Office Takeaways: Ben Affleck’s ‘The Accountant’ and Kevin Hart Score
Last Weekend (2014)
This weekend brought some welcome news: Ben Affleck’s latest, “The Accountant” (Warner Bros.), came in better than expected. And though “Kevin Hart: What Now?” (Universal) grossed only about half as much, they both did well compared to their cost.

But the overall box office continues to lag against 2015’s peak record numbers, dominated by such fourth-quarter entries as “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” a Bond film and the final “Hunger Games.” It’s hard to imagine that 2016 totals can beat them, even with Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” in early November, J.K. Rowling’s latest “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” from Warners and Disney’s “Moana” closer to Thanksgiving.

The Top Ten (+1)

1. The Accountant (Warner Bros.) New – Cinemascore: A; Metacritic: 51; Est. budget: $45 million

$24,715,000 in 3,332 theaters; PTA (per theater average): $7,417; Cumulative: $24,715,000

2. Kevin Hart: What Now? (Universal) New – Cinemascore: A- ; Metacritic: 61; Est. budget: $10 million

$11,894,000 in 2,568 theaters; PTA:...

Kevin Hart: What Now? – Review
How long since there’s been a comedian who regularly opens stand-up films theatrically? Larry the Cable Guy, Chris Rock, etc serve up sets on HBO, but when it comes to actually driving to the multiplex and paying to see a comic on the big screen, you have to go back almost 30 years to Eddie Murphy Raw and Richard Pryor before that. Kevin Hart’s sporadically funny new concert film Kevin Hart What Now? is his third to play theaters in the past five years. It was filmed in his home town of Philadelphia before a sold-out audience of 50,000 at Philly’s Lincoln Financial Field. Hart’s actual set lasts about 75 minutes, but this feature is padded out with a casino-set opening that spoofs 007 and Denzel Washington’s counting scene in The Equalizer. Halle Barry, Ed Helms, and Don Cheadle all join Hart for this mostly pointless prologue.

Hart steers...

Kevin Hart: What Now? Review
At their best, comedians serve as modern-day philosophers, shaping the culture by reflecting it back at audiences with just the right balance of truth and humor. It’s why the work of people like George Carlin and Richard Pryor has sustained such lasting appeal for decades. Their comedy isn’t so much a series of jokes as it is a social commentary on issues like sex, politics, and religion, all of which are at the very core of who we are as individuals and as a society. However, not all comedians aim for such lofty goals with their material, opting instead for a more observational, story-based approach. This is precisely what moviegoers are in for with Kevin Hart: What Now?

While Hart’s comedy might not dig as deep as his aforementioned forefathers, this new concert film – the comedian’s third such big-screen release after 2011’s Laugh at My...

Eddie Murphy on Return to Stand-Up Comedy: 'I Might'
Eddie Murphy at an event for Good Luck Chuck (2007)
Eddie Murphy dropped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Friday for a wide-ranging conversation that included the comedian's love of Good Times, his Bill Cosby impression and how he cries at the movies. During the interview, Kimmel also praised Murphy's Mark Twain Prize acceptance speech, an appearance that had comedy fans salivating for the Raw star's return to the stage. When asked whether he might dust off his famed stand-up skills for the first time in decades, an optimistic Murphy replied, "I might."

Kevin Hart
What Now? Trailer Has Kevin Hart Breaking a Stand-Up Record
Kevin Hart
It's been three years since Kevin Hart took the stage for the stand-up comedy movie Let Me Explain. In that time, he's appeared in numerous hit movies and made countless stand-up and TV appearances. But now he's ready to return to what he loves most, and the thing that made him a star. Today, we have the full-length trailer for Kevin Hart: What Now? And it sees the comedian at the top of his game. Literally.

Let Me Explained was a blockbuster success for the comedian, and grossed an astounding $32 million at the box office. So a follow-up was a no brainer. His previous effort is the third highest live stand-up comedy movie of all time. But What Now? could easily take the top spot away from Eddie Murphy Raw, which has held the title of biggest stand-up comedy movie since it hit theaters in 1987. It is followed by The Original Kings of Comedy, which came out in 2000.

This new trailer shows Kevin Hart as a James Bond-like secret agent. He is on a mission to get money for his latest comedy tour. And we're treated to some cool action comedy stunts as the diminutive joker attempts to get away from the bad guys. This is all just a set up for the actual movie, though, and when it arrives in theaters on October 14, it will help pad the runtime to feature length.

The real core of the film finds Hart doing something no other stand-up has ever achieved. He will take center stage in what is being called a 'groundbreaking, record-setting, sold-out performance'. The show was part of his 2015 'What Now?' comedy tour. And it was filmed outdoors in front of a record 50,000 people. The show happened at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field, and marks the first time a comedian has ever performed to an at-capacity football stadium.

What Now? brings the Kevin Hart stand-up trilogy to its inevitable conclusion, which kicked off back in 2011 with Laugh at My Pain. That movie went onto earn $7.7 million, and stands as the 8th highest grossing live stand-up comedy movie of all-time. Before What Now? hits theaters this fall, Kevin Hart can be seen opposite Dwayne The Rock Johnson in the new action comedy Central Intelligence, which opens this Friday, June 17. He is also one of the lead voice actors in the new animated comedy The Secret Life of Pets, in theaters July 8. And later this year, he'll reunite with The Rock alongside Jack Black to shoot the Jumanji remake. Today, we get to see him slinging jokes and acting more than just a 'little' foolish in What Now? Here's the latest footage, courtesy of Youtube...

NYC Weekend Watch: Brian De Palma, Hong Sang-soo, Thom Andersen & More
Since any New York cinephile has a nearly suffocating wealth of theatrical options, we figured it’d be best to compile some of the more worthwhile repertory showings into one handy list. Displayed below are a few of the city’s most reliable theaters and links to screenings of their weekend offerings — films you’re not likely to see in a theater again anytime soon, and many of which are, also, on 35mm. If you have a chance to attend any of these, we’re of the mind that it’s time extremely well-spent.

A full-career Brian De Palma retrospective is now underway. Sisters and Carrie play on Friday, and Saturday brings The Phantom of the Paradise — but that’s not even half of the first weekend.

Prints of Gilda, Space Jam, and shorts by Charles and Ray Eames screen this Saturday.

10 Best WWE Storylines Of The Last 5 Years
WWE.com

Sometimes it’s tempting to get caught up in the past as a WWE fan. When you think back to childhood memories of watching Hulk Hogan fight for what’s right Monday nights, to watching Stone Cold Steve Austin give the middle finger to the man, it can be hard to imagine any modern WWE storylines even coming close to the “good old days.”

But while everyone will always have their favorite era of WWE, the truth is that living in the past can sometimes make you blind to greatness in the present. WWE is a 24/7, 365 day a year brand of entertainment and with that much content, they are bound to produce something excellent even in leaner years.

In fact, recent years have produced several storylines that could easily stand toe to toe with the very best WWE has ever produced. Among them, these are the very best.

11 WWE Stars Quickly Elevated From Secondary To World Championships
WWE.com

Had Dean Ambrose remained Intercontinental Champion headed into Fastlane on Sunday, you could almost count on him eating the pinfall, likely from ‘brother’ Roman Reigns. It’s a rare proposition (though not impossible) that a secondary titleholder would head into WrestleMania and face the WWE Champion, and Ambrose dropping the belt on Raw in a five-way match actually adds a bit of intrigue for Sunday. For some, it lays that seed that maybe, just maybe, Ambrose could garner the title match at WrestleMania after all.

While Reigns is still the most likely victor in Sunday’s triple threat, this wouldn’t be the first time a secondary champion has dropped the gold en route to his first WWE World Championship. The modern era of WWE is littered with examples of soon-to-be marquee talents ditching a lesser belt in eventual exchange for the grand prize, and it usually doesn’t take long.

Eddie Murphy at an event for Good Luck Chuck (2007)
Watch Eddie Murphy Do First Bill Cosby Impersonation in Years
Eddie Murphy at an event for Good Luck Chuck (2007)
It may come as a shock to some, but Eddie Murphy is still funny. And he still knows how to command a crowd with the perfect joke. For a while, it looked like Eddie had retired his Bill Cosby impersonation in light of the legal troubles facing the befallen comedy legend. But he surprised everyone with some very funny Cosby banter during his acceptance speech for the Mark Twain Prize in Washington, D.C. And the AP Wire now has video from his appearance.

Eddie Murphy hasn't had a hit movie in years. Hard to believe, but his last big screen outing was in the 2012 comedy A Thousand Words. Since then, he has been laying dormant, plotting his return to the stage for his first stand-up comedy show in decades. Of course, we're no closer to that happening than we were back in 1987, when his final stand-up movie Eddie Murphy Raw hit theater screens.

Bill Cosby
Eddie Murphy told a joke onstage and the world did not end
Bill Cosby
One of the most controversial things I've ever published, based on the sheer volume and intensity of the mail sent to me afterwards, was my statement of belief that Eddie Murphy is, in fact, done. I am happy to say that Eddie proved me wrong this weekend, if only for a single moment. If that happened, then anything could happen. That's good to know. I still don't believe he's ever going to get back out there in a major way. The occasion was Murphy's acceptance of the Mark Twain Prize For American Humor from the Kennedy Center, a major award at this point considering it's only been around for 18 years. That means that Eddie's been retired from comedy a full decade longer than they've been giving out this award. And to be fair, Eddie really only has two comedy albums to his name. One had a TV special that accompanied it,...

Eddie Murphy may have refused to imitate Bill Cosby during the “Saturday Night Live” 40th anniversary episode, but the Murphy evidently had a change of heart on Sunday night. While accepting the Mark Twain Prize for humor, Murphy took a few shots at Cosby, who won the award in 2009. Murphy did an impression of the embattled comedian that he first made famous in his 1987 stand up special “Eddie Murphy Raw.” “Bill has one of these. Did y’all make Bill give his back?” Murpy said of his award statuette, according to Mashable. “No, because I know there was a big outcry from.

11 Unforeseen Benefits Of John Cena Leaving WWE
wwe.com

John Cena leaving WWE is on the face of it a very bad thing. He’s scheduled to take off after Hell In A Cell, and won’t be back until after Christmas.

Already stagnant Raw ratings are going to be hurt, plus there’s two Network specials that he will be missing. Both Survivor Series and TLC would have been stronger with WWE’s franchise star.

However, there are some unforeseen benefits in John Cena leaving WWE. A range of opportunities are about to open up, there’s a vacuum that needs to be filled. In his absence, there could be some real progressive action in WWE.

11. A New Us Champion WWE.com

Cena’s exit should mean a new Us Champion. Surely there is no way he’ll be holding on to the belt for two whole months, without ever appearing once.

The title change, which...

Brian Grazer Is Making an Eddie Murphy Art-House Movie for Netflix
Eddie Murphy at an event for Good Luck Chuck (2007)
In an interview with Bloomberg Wednesday, Brian Grazer announced he's developing a Neflix film for Eddie Murphy. Grazer described the film as if he were speaking to Cahiers du Cinéma, calling it "a tour de force movie that’s cinéma vérité with Eddie Murphy being as raw as he can be." As cinéma vérité is a style of documentary filmmaking that relies heavily on improvisation to highlight its subjects, we can probably expect a return to Murphy's '80s comedy roots — as seen in his 1987 stand-up film Raw — and less of the stark Method acting of The Adventures of Pluto Nash.

20 Wtf Moments In Stone Cold Steve Austin’s WWE Career
WWE.com

When you think of Stone Cold Steve Austin, what comes to mind first? The signature sound of breaking glass as he’d march down the entrance ramp? The time he doused Shane and Vince McMahon with a beer truck? His record as a six-time WWF Champion? “What?”

There’s a lot of reasons why many people still consider the toughest S.O.B. to be the greatest wrestling talent of all time. Austin himself will be the first to admit that he wasn’t the world’s best wrestler, but his endless charisma and strong character made him utterly compelling. He very well could have just been another pre-Attitude Era wrestler long since forgotten, but once he uttered the famous “Austin 3:16” speech, he appealed to charged-up young men the world over who also wanted to drink beer and slap their boss around.

However, Stone Cold’s...

"Trainwreck" director Judd Apatow has been a relentless critic of Bill Cosby's since the rape allegations resurfaced in the media. During a promotional appearance on "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon," Apatow got to simultaneously return to his stand-up comedy roots while skewering The Cos with a cruel and reasonably accurate impression (and one that also calls back to the punchline from Eddie Murphy's Cosby routine from "Eddie Murphy Raw"). Al Pacino in Cruising (1980)
Cringe: 13 movies with blatantly homophobic scenes
Al Pacino in Cruising (1980)
The new comedy "Get Hard" stars Kevin Hart as an unlikely coach who trains Will Ferrell for a stint in prison. In one scene, Hart insists that Ferrell go to a top La brunch spot and give oral sex to a random patron in the bathroom to learn -- I guess? -- the mechanics of prison rape. Yes, this movie equates consensual gay sexual activity with actual rape. Cut to Will Ferrell in a restaurant bathroom gagging at the sight of a penis for the amusement of a multiplex audience. Could it be the most homophobic scene in a comedy of the past ten years? It's certainly a candidate. To commemorate this weirdly ignorant movie, we've compiled a list: movies with homophobic scenes so blatant, they made us shudder. Sometimes a movie reeks of homophobia (See: that ol' heart-warmer "Cruising") and sometimes it's just a couple of moments in a...

Eddie Murphy Joins Richard Pryor Biopic
Hard to believe it, but Eddie Murphy was once one of the biggest stars and box office draws in the world. Since the heady days of his Raw and Delirious stand up shows and the runaway success that the Beverly Hills Cop franchise brought him, it's fair to say that his career has been in steady decline. With a string of poor career choices and forgettable roles, Murphy needs a hit, and Lee Daniels might be the man to give him a role worth remembering. Murphy has joined the cast of Daniel's Richard Pryor biopic, and the smart money says he will play Pryor's father in the movie.  Pryor had a turbulent lifestyle and drowned out the problems in his life with cocktails of drugs and booze, in between playing to sell out shows all over America. Widely regarded as one of the greatest comedians of all time, there's plenty...

'Brewster's Millions' Lands Director Robert Townsend
Robert Townsend
Actor-filmmaker Robert Townsend has signed on to direct the reboot of Brewster's Millions, news which comes 30 years after the 1985 comedy Brewster's Millions was released, starring Richard Pryor and John Candy. The story is based on George Barr McCutcheon's 1902 novel, which was turned into a stage play in 1906 along with 10 different movie adaptations, including a lost 1914 Cecil B. DeMille version towards the beginning of his career.

Michael William Schmidt is writing the screenplay, which centers on Montgomery Brewster, a man who inherits $1 billion, under one condition: he must spend $100 million in one week, or he loses everything. The financial stakes in the reboot have been increased considerably, since the 1985 version, directed by Walter Hill, centered on Richard Pryor's Brewster tasked with spending $30 million in 30 days, in order to receive his full inheritance of $300 million. No further story details were released at this time.

Joseph Nasser and Jack Nasser are producing the reboot,...

Watch This Old Clip of Eddie Murphy Impersonating Bill Cosby
In a bizarre Twitter rant yesterday, Norm Macdonald divulged 100 tweets worth of behind-the-scenes details from the making of SNL 40. His most revealing tweets, however, related to Eddie Murphy.

According to Macdonald, Murphy, who hadn’t been back to Studio 8H since leaving the show in 1985, refused to impersonate Bill Cosby, who’s been facing allegations of sexually assaulting multiple women, in a sketch. Instead, the veteran comedian opted to reminisce, however briefly, on his time on the show.

On Murphy’s decision, Macdonald tweeted:

Eddie Murphy is the coolest, a rockstar even in a room with actual rockstars.

Eddie decides the laughs are not worth it. He will not kick a man when he is down. — Norm Macdonald (@normmacdonald) February 19, 2015
