How is it forty years since 1984?? Well, that’s just how time works, my friends. It was a time before mobile phones. Before the internet. Before we got worried about and then forgot about Y2K. It was the year in which George Orwell envisioned a world of doublethink, room 101 and Big Brother. And it was several years before Room 101 and Big Brother would come to mean TV shows and not dystopian ideals. But we digress…
Fortunately, the very nature of films is that the passing of time does not erode the quality of a classic movie, and even more fortunately, 1984 was absolutely packed with them.
We have rounded up some of the best loved films across multiple genres from action, horror and comedy to family films and epics. All you have to do is identify the film from the quote.

Mexican director Alonso Ruizpalacios has had a winning record coming to the Berlin Film Festival since 2013, when his film Gueros took the Best First Feature prize. Five years later he was back with his second, the sensational museum-heist film Museo, and deservedly won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay. His third, A Cop Movie, which plays with the traditional docu form by using actors, won Best Documentary at Mexico’s Golden Ariel Awards.
Ruizpalacios belongs in the same league as iconic current Mexican directors Guillermo del Toro, Alfonso Cuarón and particularly Alejandro González Iñárritu, whose cinematic style seems closest to what Ruizpalacios has been doing. His latest trip to Berlin, La Cocina, reinforces the thrilling talent of this singular filmmaker who for the first time has shot a film using both Spanish and English. It is hard to believe (for people of a certain age), but the year 1994 was 30 years ago! For this week’s poll, we wanted to step back into the time machine and reminisce about what could possibly be considered one of the best years in cinema history. If, like me, you are in your thirties, 1994 holds a nostalgic place due to movies such as Blank Check, D2: The Mighty Ducks, Major League 2, Clifford, The Flintstones, Getting Even With Dad, Little Big League, Angels in the Outfield, The Little Rascals, Camp Nowhere, Richie Rich and Little Giants. The year also represented the huge breakout of comedy legend Jim Carrey as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Mask, and Dumb and Dumber were all released during that single calendar year.
But it wasn’t just movies aimed at a child’s heart that were released in 1994. The year also saw some genuine...

One cannot understate the impact Martin Brest's crime comedy "Beverly Hills Cop" had on popular culture when it was released in 1984. Between "Cop," the 1983 comedy "Trading Places," and Walter Hill's 1982 buddy film "48 Hrs.," Eddie Murphy was suddenly one of the largest and most striking movie stars in the world. His glib delivery and willingness to be crass rattled cinemas to an astonishing degree, and audiences began flocking to see Murphy in just about anything. Brest's film was made for a mere $13 million and would rack up about $316 million worldwide. It was also nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards.
In the film, Murphy played Axel Foley, a Detroit-based detective who says he's going on vacation to Beverly Hills, but who is secretly investigating the death of a friend, unbeknownst to his bosses. The film involves a lot of Murphy's bafflement at the posh, unusual, upscale...

A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Movies YouTube channel every day of the week – but on Fridays things get a little freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Night feature is a slasher movie, but it’s not your average slasher. The masked maniac in this one isn’t targeting victims in a remote location or in a small and sleepy Midwestern town. This killer gets up to their bloody business on city streets and in apartment buildings – which makes the movie so unique, they even had to mention the setting in the title.

Ma Seok-do and his captain Jeon Il-man have been sent to Ho Chi Minh City to pick up a suspect for extradition. That would seem a simple assignment, right? There’s just one question. Why would a fugitive in a country that doesn’t have an extradition treaty with Korea turn himself in?

Since then, he has been buying one can of pineapple every day with an expiration date of May 1, his birthday, and in an utterly baseless assumption, he believes that if she does not call by the time he has bought 30 cans, their love will expire. In this scenario, he will eat all the cans. Eventually, he meets a woman with a blonde wig who tries to solve her own, much more dangerous issues, and the two of them start sharing their solitude.

Of all the actors to emerge in the 1970s, there are few, if any, as captivating, unpredictable and exciting as James Woods. He began the decade, and his on screen career for that matter, for legendary director Elia Kazan in The Visitors (1972), and in the next few years established himself as one of American film's most promising young performers. He turned up as villains in such classic TV shows as Kojak and Streets of San Francisco, but he also appeared in some major 70s movies too, such as 1973's The Way We Were, Arthur Penn's Night Movies (1975) and The Gambler (1975). But it was his performance in The Onion Field (1979) which really signalled his arrival, as the sociopathic cop killer Greg Powell. The film, based on Joseph Wambaugh's best-selling non-fiction book, was a critical smash and earned Woods his first wave of acclaim.

Claude Chabrol was the most prolific of the New Wave directors. He didn’t only do murder thrillers; this fine selection of Chabrols from the ten year period 1985-1994 begins with a pair of detective tales but moves on to a masterful adaptation of a great book and two engrossing experiments, one of them picking up where an earlier French master left off. The players are terrific as well: Jean Poiret, Stéphane Audran, Jean-Claude Brialy, Bernadette Lafont, Isabelle Huppert, Jean-François Balmer, Christophe Malavoy, Jean Yanne, Marie Trintignant, Jean-François Garreaud, Emmanuelle Béart, François Cluzet.

The holidays always bring family drama.
Gwen tried her usual gratitude tradition on Ordinary Joe Season 1 Episode 9, but drama ensued instead.
The Kimbreau family had a habit of holding onto old wounds and letting them explode or giving the cold shoulder. Neither was effective.
There were so many parallels between the Cop Joe and the Rockstar Joe timelines.
To start, Cop Joe is contemplating getting more serious with Amy, while Rockstar Joe's considering ending it in the other timeline.
Amy was so excited to help Gwen prepare Thanksgiving and spend more time with her. They had such an important scene when Gwen told her about worrying Christopher Sr. on holiday, and now she worries about Joe.
Amy had never thought of that, but she encouraged Joe to be a beat cop again.
Joe and Celeste's sibling relationship was entertaining, and hopefully, we will see more of it. In both timelines,...

Cbbc Commissions Supersized Version Of Kids Conservation Series ‘One Zoo Three’ As Cop 26 Approaches
Cbbc has commissioned a supersized version of kids conservation series One Zoo Three as UK broadcasters prepare for the Cop 26 conference in Glasgow next month.
A 26-episode series of the show, which follows brothers Cam, Tyler and Aaron who run the UK’s Paradise Wildlife Park with more than 800 rare and exotic animals, will air next year and looks set to be one of the BBC kids network’s bigger hits. A five-episode pilot aired last year.
In the supersized version, themed episodes will delve deeper into the animals’ behavior, diets and physiology through a series of new strands.
The show is produced by Sky Studios-backed natural history indie True to Nature, which is run by former BBC Studios Natural History Unit boss Wendy Darke.
It comes as UK broadcasters prepare for the Cop 26 conference in Glasgow and Cam, one of the hosts, will attend Cop as a Green Ambassador.

Chungking Express is a film directed by Wong Kar-wai – one of the leading figures in the Hong Kong movie sphere. He is well known for his debut drama As Tears Go By. Chungking Express saw the world in 1994. That was the time when Hong Kong was several steps away from one of the most difficult periods in its history: the period of uncertainty, confusion, and chaos as to the future of the city. These feelings got especially acute in 1997 when Hong Kong sovereignty was handed over from the UK to China. However, it was already in 1994 that Wong Kar-wai managed to depict the feelings of loneliness and rashness of the big city with millions of people living so close to each other but at the same time being so emotionally distant from each other.

Who knew there were so many “Cop Rock” fans. After John Oliver lambasted that hilariously bad and short-lived dramatic musical cop series on a recent episode of “Last Week Tonight,” DVD sales of the show went skyrocketing.
Demand for the 11-episode series from Steven Bochco, creator of such hits like “Hill Street Blues” and “L.A. Law” (though he’d probably wish we’d all just forget this one) has gotten so big that it caused a shortage of DVDs. There are no copies at all of “Cop Rock: The Complete Series” until May, according to an email from Shout! Factory, which produces the set (via Mediate).
“We’re writing to let you know that Cop Rock: The Complete Series is currently out of stock. There was a system-wide outage caused by a surge in orders due to the segment featured on ‘Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.'”

November is among the least respected months on the calendar. Falling between objectively the two best holidays, November is usually all about recovering from the spookies of Halloween while getting ready for the good vibes the holiday season. For its new releases of November 2020, Netflix has decided to just go ahead and get Christmas over with.
Netflix has already released a list of all its holiday offerings for November and December, and it’s those holiday offerings that take the most prominence this month. The biggest project of all of these is undoubtedly The Christmas Chronicles 2, which premieres on Nov. 25. In this holiday sequel, Kurt Russell reprises his role as Hot Santa Claus who must save the season once again.
On the non-holiday side of things, Netflix’s Emmy-winning series The Crown returns for season 4 on Nov. 15. And speaking of things that desperately want to win awards, Ron Howard...

Though we’re now beginning to see life starting to return to at least some sense of normality, a lot of people are still spending much more time at home than usual thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, and that probably won’t change for a while yet. As such, streaming services are more popular than ever now and thankfully, all of the major players have been delivering the goods when it comes to adding new content.
Of course, Netflix are still the leaders and each and every month they bring us a healthy helping of fresh material that ensures subscribers are kept entertained at all times. Admittedly, the summer was more fruitful in terms of new releases, but there are still a lot of great titles coming down the pipeline as we head into the fall and today, the streaming giant have revealed their November lineup, which you can check out below.

Have you heard of Cariol Horne? Her story is of a good police officer being fired for saving a Black man's life. Several weeks ago, Hollywood Insider published an article with the headline "Good Cop Stephen Mader Fired For Refusing to Shoot A Black Person". These two stories are eerily similar as they are both good police officers that were terminated from their career due to actually prioritizing "protect and serve". The only difference here is that Cariol is still waiting for justice 12 years later.

Leaders of color from the frontlines of the climate crisis talked about the injustices they’ve seen, the solutions they’ve created and helped implement, and the key role climate justice plays in the ongoing demand for racial justice.
“The climate justice movement has always been anti-racist,” said Elizabeth Yeampierre, executive director of Uprose in Brooklyn, New York. “We started this work because it was our communities that were oversaturated with environmental burdens – with power plants, with waste treatment plants. Recently, as the enormity of the crisis of American police brutality has become obvious to the many — it was always evident to some of us — there are calls to cancel television series dedicated to police officers as main characters. "Why are there so many cop shows on TV?" asks think piece after think piece. Does this have a net effect on how police are perceived by the greater media and by the American voter? Are positive depictions of the hero cop causing harm making television viewers believe that members of law enforcement are omnipotent demigods, incapable of ...

The 100 Season 7 Episode 4
“Hesperides” proves once again that Sky Ring is the best thing that ever happened to The 100’s storytelling. It continues the seventh and final season’s high bar of storytelling, even if a decision to go for a juicy, plot-twist ending completely trashes what little character development there was for Echo.
The opening act of the show is a lovely wordless version of a lifetime together in the space of just a few minutes. In a way, it’s a heartbreak that we don’t get to see Dev again, but that’s also the kind of story choice where I’m willing to have my heart broken.
For those obsessively tracking who is when and where vis a vis the Anomaly and Planet Beta, we now know what happened to Hope after Diyoza and Octavia were taken presumably to Bardo) and...

Robert Mitchum intercedes in a range war in this ‘A’ western, and he’s got the pro team of director Robert Wise and cameraman Nicholas Musuraca on his side. All but one action scene plays out at night, which is why this is sometimes called a Noir Western. The dark visuals fit that mold but the story values are strictly traditional, starting with the hero’s laconic do-it-don’t-say-it sense of personal honor. Partly filmed in Arizona, the fine production further advanced the laid-back Mitchum persona, this time as an honest cowpoke, not a cool-dude hipster.
