Reo Speedwagon Play Final Show (But Same Band Will Continue Touring): Video + Setlist
Image
Reo Speedwagon played their final show on Saturday (December 21st) at Las Vegas’ Venetian Theatre. However, the same exact band lineup will continue to tour next year, billed as Kevin Cronin.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Reo Speedwagon would cease touring after 2024 due to “irreconcilable differences” between singer Cronin and bassist Bruce Hall, and that the Vegas gig would be their last.

Get Styx and Kevin Cronin Tickets Here

That said, Cronin recently announced a co-headlining 2025 North American tour with Styx, and will perform with the same musicians — just not under the Reo Speedwagon name. Hall stopped touring with the band in 2023, so he wasn’t part of Reo Speedwagon’s most recent lineup anyway. It appears that for legal reasons, Cronin and company can’t use the name Reo Speedwagon moving forward.

The final lineup for Reo Speedwagon consisted of Cronin, lead guitarist Dave Amato and drummer Bryan Hitt,...

Bob Yerkes, Circus Trainer and ‘Back to the Future,’ ‘Remo Williams’ Stuntman, Dies at 92
Image
Bob Yerkes, the acrobatic stunt performer who slid down a clock tower cable for Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future and hung around the Statue of Liberty under repair for Fred Ward in Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins, has died. He was 92.

Yerkes died Tuesday of natural causes in Northridge, Darlene Ava Williams, a stunt performer and one of his many mentees, announced.

The amiable Yerkes, who started out in the circus and was a skilled trapeze aerialist and tightrope walker, also plummeted from a helicopter through a roof in Breakout (1975), starring Charles Bronson.

“I was getting ready for the stunt and the guy said, ‘Break a Leg!,” and I broke them both,” he recalled in a 2017 interview. He said he also broke legs while working on Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988) and Her Alibi (1989), but, in a career that spanned eight decades, that was the extent of his serious injuries.

The Most Underrated Crime Movies
Image
I’ve loved gangster movies since I was four years old and saw Humphrey Bogart and Sylvia Sidney in Dead End (1937) on TV, and Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway in Bonnie and Clyde (1967) at the movies (My dad pinched a lobby card for me). Every Friday night, a local NYC station ran old crime flicks on a slot called “Tough Guys.” Bogart, James Cagney, Edward G. Robinson, and George Raft were the faces over the title. Today that might be Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, Wesley Snipes, and James Gandolfini.

The gangster and crime genre produced some of the most influential films in cinema history. Mervyn LeRoy’s Little Caesar (1931), William A. Wellman’s The Public Enemy (1931), and Howard Hawks’ Scarface (1932), get a lot of credit for breaking ground in topics beyond criminality, shattering sexual taboos as well as the boundaries of acceptable visual violence. High Sierra (1941) and White Heat...

Kirk Douglas And Burt Lancaster's Laughter Cost Gunfight At The O.K Corral An Entire Day Of Shooting
Image
In his autobiography, "The Ragman's Son," "Spartacus" star and cinema luminary Kirk Douglas makes much of his longtime friendship with the hulking legendary actor Burt Lancaster. The two first worked together on Lisabeth Scott's 1947 noir classic "I Walk Alone," which sees Lancaster's convict battle his former bootlegging, currently two-timing business partner (Douglas).

Their second big-screen pairing was in "Gunfight at the O.K. Corral," a John Sturges Western chronicling the storied 1881 Tombstone, Arizona shootout. Therein, Douglas would play the ailing gunslinger Doc Holliday to Lancaster's tenacious Wyatt Earp, two tough men whose tense alliance would blossom into diehard loyalty. Though the duo would go on to star in a handful of movies together it was on the set of the 1957 American Western where the two actors really hit it off.

"The Ragman's Son" carries the details of production, a shoot largely oscillating between the historically-relevant location of Tucson, Arizona, and Paramount Studio sets back in California.

The War With Grandpa – Review
Image
For the second weekend in a row, it’s family time at the multiplex. But that “Ft” tag is true on both levels since Love On The Rocks was an adult “dramedy” and Eternal Beauty was a dark tale of conflict and tragedy. The latter focused on sisters while the former featured a “caper” involving a father (and grandfather) and his daughter (also a mother). This new flick almost wears its “PG” rating as a beacon welcoming in “all ages”. It does concern three generations of a family, and it’s a comedy full of “gross-out” gags, slapstick pratfalls, and elaborate pranks to appeal to the tots and “pre-teens” weaned on annual holiday reruns of the Home Alone movies. Oh, but things aren’t all “tears and hugs” as the youngest lad in this household starts The War With Grandpa.

The aforementioned “son” Peter (Oakes Fegley) is pretty excited to...

Wamg Tribute: Movie Superstar Kirk Douglas Has Died
The word rang out yesterday, vibrating through the canyons of Los Angeles, much like the echo of thousands of voices sixty years ago that proclaimed “I am Spartacus!”. Perhaps the last of the leading men of Hollywood’s pre-1950 Golden Age is now with his long-departed peers. Here’s how the town’s Hollywood Reporter broke the news:

” Kirk Douglas, the son of a ragman who channeled a deep, personal anger through a chiseled jaw and steely blue eyes to forge one of the most indelible and indefatigable careers in Hollywood history, died Wednesday in Los Angeles. He was 103.

“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” son Michael Douglas wrote on his Instagram account. “To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the Golden Age of movies who lived well into his golden years,...

Film News: Champion Movie Star Kirk Douglas Dies at 103
Los Angeles – From his chiseled-from-marble good looks to his actor intensity on screen, Kirk Douglas defined the very concept of Movie Star. The actor also broke records for longevity, living to the ripe old age of 103. Kirk Douglas died of natural causes on February 5th, 2020, at his home in Los Angeles.

Douglas was known for his fierce commitment to his craft, and his independent spirit … he formed his own production company after dissatisfaction with the movie studio system of his era. He made several classic films, even a popular Walt Disney live action feature. He was father to Oscar-winner Michael Douglas, as well as three other sons from two marriages (his was married to his second wife for 66 years). He also committed his life to several charitable causes.

Hollywood Legend Kirk Douglas Dies at 103
Tony Sokol Feb 5, 2020

Kirk Douglas, an icon of Hollywood's Golden Age, was as heroic as some of the characters he played.

Stage and screen actor, producer, director and writer Kirk Douglas, whose career spanned more than 60 years, died Wednesday at the age of 103, according to Variety.

“It is with tremendous sadness that my brothers and I announce that Kirk Douglas left us today at the age of 103,” his son, actor Michael Douglas, said in a statement.

“To the world, he was a legend, an actor from the golden age of movies who lived well into his golden years, a humanitarian whose commitment to justice and the causes he believed in set a standard for all of us to aspire to. But to me and my brothers Joel and Peter he was simply Dad, to Catherine, a wonderful father-in-law, to his grandchildren and great grandchild their loving grandfather, and to his wife Anne,...

Professionalism First: Ranking the Films of Michael Mann
Michael Mann has made movies about cops, criminals, serial killers, athletes, whistleblowers, Native American trackers and ancient Romanian demons, but all of his films have one trait in common: professionalism. The films of Michael Mann depict a tough, cold and unforgiving world where a single mistake can cost you your career or your life, but the protagonists of his films are men (and yeah, they're always men) who are properly equipped to survive this kind of life. Tough guys who take their jobs very seriously and often pay a high price for being good at what they do. With Blackhat about to hit theaters, it was time to revisit the filmography of Michael Mann and rank his films. But don't take this list too personally -- even the lowest ranked movie holds plenty of...

Rocky adds muscle to the American dream
You know you’ve made it when they make a onesie in your honour. Rocky’s is iconically straightforward: it is black with a red hood, it shows a pair of red gloves hanging around the neck, and across the shoulders the word ‘Rocky’ is displayed in typically solid white capitals. There is something so simple and straightforward about the whole Rocky franchise that makes it irresistible – but there is more to the story than just the commercialisation.

In truth, Sylvester Stallone’s eponymous hero was a merchandising man’s dream – or to put it another way, Stallone captured something of the American dream in his humble, heart-as-big-as-a-lion hero: American dreams have always been in fashion.

Rocky’s old-time values, his decency and his uncomplicated determination to do the right thing were a perfect token of what it meant to be American in the 1980s. Rocky was straightforwardly one of...

Hilla Medalia in Web Junkie (2013)
Review: Hilla Medalia's Documentary 'The Go-Go Boys' Remembers 1980s Hollywood
Hilla Medalia in Web Junkie (2013)
There's nothing particularly special about Hilla Medalia's documentary, "The Go-Go Boys: The Inside Story of Cannon Films," other than its subjects, Menahem Golan and Yorum Globus. The eponymous Israeli cousins are well known to anyone over the age of -- well, never mind. Arriving on Hollywood shores in the early 80s, this filmmaking team -- Golan was the filmmaker, Globus the moneyman -- had ambitions to make it big and despite lacking certain obvious traits (such as taste) that is exactly what they did. Getting their break in 1984 with a dance film fittingly called "Breakin," only two years later their Cannon Films was making 40-plus films, paying Sylvester Stallone $10-plus million, and bankrolling not only low-brow stars Charles Bronson ("Death Wish II"), Chuck Norris ("Delta Force") and Jean-Claude Van Damme ("Bloodsport") but the likes of John Cassavettes ("Love Streams"), Norman Mailer ("Tough Guys ...

Cracking Up: A Conversation on Bruno Dumont's "Li'l Quinquin"
The following exchange took place between critics Michael Pattison and Neil Young over email between 4 and 8 August, not long after Li’l Quinquin screened at Wrocław’s New Horizons International Film Festival—following its world-premiere at Cannes earlier this year, and now playing at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Set in a village in northern France and originally made in four parts for transmission on French television, Bruno Dumont’s latest work is 200 minutes in length and chronicles an unorthodox murder investigation conducted by Capt Van der Weyden (Bernard Pruvost) under the watchful eyes of a rambunctious kid known only by his nickname, Li'l Quinquin (Alane Delhaye).

Spoiler Warning: this exchange reveals and discusses significant plot details of Li’l Quinquin

Eli Wallach in El honor de los Mackey (1985)
'The Good, the Bad and the Ugly' Star Eli Wallach Passes Away at Age 98
Eli Wallach in El honor de los Mackey (1985)
Legendary actor Eli Wallach, best known for his role as the villainous Tuco in The Good the Bad and the Ugly, passed away in New York City yesterday at the age of 98. The actor's passing was confirmed by his daughter, Katherine.

Born in 1915 in the Red Hook neighborhood of Brooklyn, Eli Wallach began studying acting after receiving a B.A. and M.S. in education from the University of Texas and City College of New York. His acting ambitions were cut short when he was drafted to serve in World War II, but he began acting in several plays upon his return to New York in 1945. In 1948, he was one of the 20 core actors who helped found The Actor's Studio, where he honed his method acting craft.

He won a Tony Award in 1951 for his performance in Tennessee Williams' The Rose Tattoo, which was directed by Elia Kazan. Tennessee Williams...

Eli Wallach in El honor de los Mackey (1985)
Legendary 'The Good The Bad & The Ugly' star Eli Wallach passes away at 98
Eli Wallach in El honor de los Mackey (1985)
98 years old. Remarkable. I can't imagine making it to 98. I can't imagine the breadth of life experience you could have in that amount of time. Eli Wallach leaves behind a truly great filmography and a family life that is enviable, having been married to the same woman, Anne Jackson, since 1948. She had a hell of a filmography herself, and they had three children together. I am in awe of anyone who can build a life that solid for that long, never mind someone who works in the film industry, where relationships are, at best, impermanent, and at worst, inconsequential. Wallach will leave an amazing legacy onscreen, but he was part of something larger, a total shift in the way acting was approached, and telling his story is telling the story of that paradigm change. He was part of that first wave of Method actors who made the jump from their...

Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in True Detective (2014)
'True Detective': A theoretical conversation about the show, starring Rust Cohle and Martin Hart
Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in True Detective (2014)
After a mere six episodes, HBO’s True Detective has become the breakout TV sensation of 2014, with ratings ascending each week to match the snowballing buzz over the show’s mystery (whodunit?) and its various teasing references (Yellow King? Carcosa?). In turn, the last couple of weeks has seen the rise of an oppositional force — not quite a backlash, but rather, a series of counterarguments, focusing on the show’s female characters (nude, young, incapable of resisting the balding charms of middle-aged detectives) and the grander possibility that the show’s various philosophical musings amount to a whole lot of hot air.

The HeyUGuys Interview: Robert De Niro & Sylvester Stallone Talk Grudge Match, Tough Guys and Scorsese
On January 24, two of cinema’s most iconic screen legends, Robert DeNiro and Sylvester Stallone, square off in the boxing comedy Grudge Match. DeNiro plays Billy “The Kid” McDonnen opposite Stallone’s Henry “Razor” Sharp, two retired boxers who harbor a deep resentment for each other. They get the chance to finally bury the hatchet when they are lured back into the ring 30 years later for one last, bloody bout.

We sat down with both Mr. Stallone and Mr. DeNiro in New York City to talk about the film. Both actors talk about reuniting since their last film together — the 1997 police corruption thriller Cop Land — and retraining for the ring since their roles in Rocky and Raging Bull.

We also talked about the possibility of Robert DeNiro showing up in an Expendables movie, and the status of I Heard You Paint Houses, the long-gestating mob thriller that would see DeNiro reteam with Martin Scorsese,...

2013's Best Movie Bromances
Some movies have romances. They are for wimps. Tough guys watch bromances: platonic relationships developed between two dudes (or ladies!) who just like hanging out, secretly hoping the other never gets married. This year had a bevy of great entries in the bromance canon. Amazingly enough, some of them aren't even from action films. Mark Walhberg and Denzel Washington - 2 Guns Though 2 Guns' script keeps these two separated far too often for the film to become a bromance classic, it's still worth a watch thanks to the undeniable chemistry Walhberg and Washington share on-screen. Hopefully someday a sequel will capitalize on the golden pairing this film discovered.

WWE: 10 Legitimate Tough Guys
WWE is scripted entertainment which promotes fights between men who are “tough”. But who really is the legitimate tough guys in the WWE? If you took away the script and put these men in a real fight, would they still stack up as “tough guys”? It is a question which has long been a source of fascination among wrestling fans, who really can win a fight and claim to be tough in the WWE locker room?

Let’s be honest, many guys get into WWE from acting or even modelling backgrounds. For example, The Miz, a guy who came in to WWE from a reality TV Show. But then in the past you have had guys like Kurt Angle and The Undertaker, who undoubtedly could hang with any man in a fight and display true toughness.

So, who are the legitimate tough guys in the WWE right now? Who are...

Film Review: 2 Guns
The ads for this movie had me nervous because everything about it screamed laziness. The saying basically goes if it smells like shit, and looks like shit it must be shit, right? Well, not necessarily. Despite an overly convoluted plot featuring way too many switcheroos and double crosses, 2 Guns—starring Denzel Washington and Mark Walhberg—manages to float by on the chemistry of its two lead actors making for an entertaining action comedy that won’t revolutionize the genre, but one that earns it’s rightful spot in reruns on basic cable for years to come.

For all intents and purposes this is the type of middle-brow pushover movie that genuine stars like Denzel and Marky Mark make before they clear up their schedules for potential Oscar bait roles, but the surprisingly hilarious rapport between the two is established from the get go in an introductory scene with each one...

Mark Wahlberg Joins The Writing Staff To Reboot 'After Hours'
Mark Wahlberg
It's always important to mix things up creatively once in a while. That's why Josh Horowitz brought in "2 Guns" star Mark Wahlberg to spice it up in the writers' room of After Hours. How could the Academy Award nominee not make things more exciting?

But it goes south pretty quickly. Like, almost immediately.

The crew starts off by spit-balling some possible ideas for upcoming segments starring Jennifer Lawrence and Taylor Lautner, but those result in something called "Titty Time" and "Tough Guys," where you hit the guest over the head with an aluminum bat.

Find out just how wrong things go in the latest After Hours!

Ray Donovan Review: Thanks, Grandpa
With a father like Mickey Donovan, who needs enemies?

It's almost difficult to peg exactly what Ray Donovan is trying to be. Definitely a drama, but there's crime involved, and oodles of family issues. The two often overlap and that's where I think it's really going to shine.

The more involved Mickey becomes with his son's family, as well as his own children, and the more he drags them into his own life of crime and into the lives of Mickey's clients, the more sh*t we'll see hitting the fan.

If ever a man had his work cut out for him, it's Ray Donovan. The easiest part of his life is dealing with the dumbass celebrities like Tommy who are sex addicts and constantly need Ray to cover their ridiculous screw ups.

On the other hand, there is his family. It's surprising that he never spoke with Abby about...

Blu Review: Gangster Squad
Gangster Squad, the period cop drama, has just hit store shelves on DVD and Blu-Ray. We here at Cinelinx got our hands on the latest release in order to help you guys decide whether or not this film is worth adding to your home entertainment collection.

I caught Gangster Squad when it was in the theaters, and I have to say...I wasn’t a fan. It’s an attempt to bring back the mobster laden crime dramas of old, but despite some great talent behind it, the film comes up short with a generic, cliche driven story. Even so, when Warner Bros asked me to check out the film on blu-ray, I felt like I should give it another chance. Did my opinion of the film change? Not so much.

It’s kind of heartbreaking because I love director Ruben Fleischer (Zombieland, 30 Minutes or Less), and all of the...

Gangster Squad Blu-Ray Review
Director Ruben Fleischer follows up two comedy films: Zombieland and 30 Minutes or Less with Gangster Squad, a cliché-ridden crime drama that borrows from every other title in the genre, while adding almost nothing to the mix, aside from the questionable decision to shoot the film digitally. Gangster Squad isn’t dragged down by its performances or its direction, but the script leaves it dead in the water before it’s even given a fighting chance.

Mickey Cohen (Sean Penn) is a ruthless crime lord. He’s thirsty for blood, money and power and his rise to the top is simple; kill everyone in your way. He buys cops when needed, but prefers to just eliminate people out of the equation altogether.

Chief Parker (Nick Nolte) comes up with the idea of rounding up some of his finest men and tasking them with the assignment of bringing Cohen down, outside of the books.

Review: Stand Up Guys Stands Up to Scrutiny
Put Al Pacino, Alan Arkin and Christopher Walken together on screen, and it's a laconic dream team. Each is so delightfully quirky and menacing in their own unique style that it's clear the film's greatest coup is casting. Stick these guys together in a car, let them kibbitz -- in a terse, concise manner, of course -- and you're halfway to a classic. The first 40 minutes or so of Stand Up Guys plays out exactly as you'd expect, a kind of Cocoon for old gangsters, another toothless reunion film like 1986's Tough Guys. We see Pacino get released from jail in that gettin-out scene that always shows up in these films, and yet always manages to remind of The Blues Brothers, however seriously they're...

Beloved Character Actor Charles Durning Dies At 89

Los Angeles — Charles Durning grew up in poverty, lost five of his nine siblings to disease, barely lived through D-Day and was taken prisoner at the Battle of the Bulge.

His hard life and wartime trauma provided the basis for a prolific 50-year career as a consummate Oscar-nominated character actor, playing everyone from a Nazi colonel to the pope to Dustin Hoffman's would-be suitor in "Tootsie."

Durning, who died Monday at age 89 in New York, got his start as an usher at a burlesque theater in Buffalo, N.Y. When one of the comedians showed up too drunk to go on, Durning took his place. He would recall years later that he was hooked as soon as he heard the audience laughing.

He told The Associated Press in 2008 that he had no plans to stop working. "They're going to carry me out, if I go," he said.

Durning's longtime agent and friend,...

Zosia Mamet, Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, and Allison Williams in Girls (2012)
What Was The Year's Biggest TV Moment?
Zosia Mamet, Lena Dunham, Jemima Kirke, and Allison Williams in Girls (2012)
New York — What was TV like in 2012?

As with every year, it was a mix of the ridiculous and the sublime, the sacred and the profane.

A TV-centric political season provided many memorable moments (President Barack Obama's missing-in-action debate performance; Clint Eastwood's empty-chair duet). Excellence persevered with series such as HBO's "Boardwalk Empire" and "Treme," AMC's "Mad Men," History's surprisingly splendid "Hatfields & McCoys," ABC's promising new "Nashville," CBS' "The Good Wife" and, of course, AMC's "The Walking Dead" with its icky charm.

Then there were stinkers like the best-forgotten ABC sitcom "Work It," which, focusing on two guys who dress as women to get jobs, was mercifully axed after just two airings. ABC's "Good Morning America" finally managed to out-fluff NBC's "Today" and stole the ratings crown. "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" wore on.

Bottom line: It's not easy to narrow down a Top 10 anything for TV.
