Dennis Hopper movies: 15 greatest films ranked worst to best
Image
Dennis Hopper was the Oscar-nominated performer who experienced many ups-and-downs throughout his career, with his off-screen antics often overshadowing his onscreen talent. Yet many of his movies have stood the test of time. Let's take a look back at 15 of Hopper's greatest films, ranked worst to best.

Born in 1936, Hopper made his movie debut at the age of 19 in "Rebel Without a Cause" (1955), where he became fast friends with James Dean. He had an even bigger role in "Giant" (1956), which would be Dean's last film before his untimely death in 1955. Hopper struggled for several years trying to find his voice, making small appearances in such films as "Cool Hand Luke" (1967) and "True Grit"(1969).

He burst onto the scene with the counterculture phenomenon "Easy Rider" (1969), which he also directed and co-wrote (with co-star Peter Fonda and Terry Southern). The story of two bikers (Hopper and Fonda) traveling across the country...

8 Unbelievable Talk Show Moments — Drew Barrymore Did What to David Letterman?
Image
Drew Barrymore has gone from child star to rebellious teen to A-list actor to talk show host whose biggest crime is maybe sitting a little too close to her guests. But 30 years ago on April 12, Barrymore’s talk-show antics were the talk of the town for a more Nsfw reason. In the timeline below, read about Barrymore’s infamous Late Show appearance and other outrageous late-night talk show moments, including guest behavior that turned offensive. 1987: Crispin Glover makes Letterman leave his own set. What should have been a routine movie promotion on David Letterman’s Late Night took a turn for the bizarre in 1987 when River’s Edge actor Crispin Glover emerged wearing platform shoes and a wig and starting ranting about the press and his reputation. Then Glover did a high kick that nearly hit Letterman, and the talk show host walked off stage. In a 2007 talk with Interviewing Hollywood,...

India Fowler in La calle del terror: La reina del baile (2025)
Fear Street: Prom Queen director aimed to make the film feel like a lost ’80s slasher classic
India Fowler in La calle del terror: La reina del baile (2025)
Fear Street: Prom Queen, the continuation of the Fear Street film franchise that began with the release of the trilogy of Fear Street Part One: 1994, Fear Street Part Two: 1978, and Fear Street Part Three: 1666 on the Netflix streaming service back in the summer of 2021, made its way through production last year, and recently it was announced that the new film will be available to watch on Netflix as of May 23rd. With that date right around the corner, Collider has heard from director Matthew Palmer that he aimed to make this movie feel like a lost ’80s slasher classic!

Author R.L. Stine has written over 100 books that have been published under the various Fear Street banners. While the initial trilogy of films wasn’t directly based on any specific Fear Street book, the new movie will be telling a version of the story Stine crafted for his 1992 book The Prom Queen.

New ‘Fear Street: Prom Queen’ Images Revealed; Director Talks ’80s Horror Influences
Image
It’s almost prom season, and a pair of new images from Fear Street: Prom Queen debuted on Collider.

Releasing May 20 on Netflix, the fourth film in the Fear Street franchise is based on the 1992 R.L. Stine novel The Prom Queen.

“Visually, we actually took a lot of inspiration from movies like River’s Edge and Blue Velvet, in terms of nailing down an authentic ’80s look and a wrong side of the tracks feeling for Shadyside,” director Matt Palmer told Collider.

“As the movie progresses, and we move into prom itself, the visual look becomes more heightened, falling more in line with the slasher classics of the ’80s, as well as the Italian giallos of the same period. Some of my favorite directors — John Carpenter, Dario Argento and David Lynch — also feel like influences on the visual look and movie as a whole.”

Palmer continues, “The entire movie is...

'Even the Way He'd Rejected Me Was Charming': Keanu Reeves Crush Recalled by Co-Star of 39-Year-Old Film
Image
Nearly four decades ago, Keanu Reeves and Ione Skye co-starred in the 1986 film River's Edge. At the time, Skye was smitten with Reeves, but her attempts to get closer with the future John Wick star did not get very far.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Skye opened up about her experience working with Reeves in her new book, Say Everything: A Memoir. She remembers having a "huge crush" on Reeves, which she admits got to the point where she started "stalking" him in his trailer. Skye also shared a story about visiting Reeves at his studio apartment where she tried to take a shower with him, but it turned out to be more awkward than intimate when she was rejected. However, Reeves turned her down in the kindest way possible.

"Keanu turned on the water and stood with his back to me, hand in the stream, staring up at the showerhead. I...

Keanu Reeves
The 10 Best Keanu Reeves Movies, Ranked
Keanu Reeves
Keanu Reeves is one of the most extraordinary movie stars of the past several decades, as he has managed to earn both legitimate praise and ironic appreciation. Although he began appearing in heartthrob roles just as the “Brat Pack” era began its decline, Reeves would become one of the definitive action stars of his generation alongside Tom Cruise and Wesley Snipes. In between his major sequels, Reeves still found a way to take on ambitious projects from acclaimed filmmakers, such as Taylor Hackford’s unusual legal thriller “The Devil’s Advocate” and Nancy Meyers’ charming romantic-comedy “Something’s Gotta Give.”

Despite facing a brief recess in his career after a series of critical disappointments in the first half of the 21st century, Reeves launched a major comeback when the “John Wick” franchise gave him another opportunity to show his merits as an action star. Reeves is clearly passionate about both the character...

The Fear of Oblivion. Interview with Isao Yukisada
Image
The interview was conducted through the good offices of Total Stage Produce Inc.

Isao Yukisada is a prominent Japanese film director, screenwriter, and producer, born in 1968, in Kumamoto, Japan. He began his filmmaking career after studying at School of Imaging Technology in Japan (Toho Kakuen) where he developed his craft. Before stepping into the role of a director, Yukisada worked as an assistant director under Shunji Iwai, a highly respected filmmaker known for his poetic, emotionally rich films such as ‘Love Letter’ (1995) and ‘Swallowtail Butterfly’ (1996). His time working with Iwai helped him gain valuable insights into visual storytelling, pacing, and emotionally resonant character development, which would later become a hallmark of his own directing style.

Yukisada made his directorial debut with ‘Open House‘, a romantic drama about a woman navigating complex emotional relationships. The film was a relatively low-profile start to his career but set the foundation for his future works,...

RoboCop 2 (1990) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
The 1987 sci-fi action classic RoboCop is one of those rare perfect movies. Everything about it works just right. The satire. The violence. The characters. The design of RoboCop himself. And it’s difficult to follow up perfection. Which is evident in RoboCop 2, a movie that tried to carry on the story… But ended up feeling tonally inconsistent and a bit scattered. It’s a fun movie, but not on the level of its predecessor. And now, we’re going to dig into just what happened to RoboCop 2.

Orion Pictures had a big hit on their hands with RoboCop, which they released on July 17, 1987. Made on a budget of just under fourteen million dollars, the film earned more than fifty-three million dollars at the box office. So, of course, Orion wanted to replicate that success as quickly as possible. They hired RoboCop writers Edward Neumeier and Michael Miner to...

An Incomplete History of Film Independent, Part One: The First 20 Years (1984-2004)
Image
Late in filmmaker Gregory Nava’s harrowing 1983 immigration drama El Norte, Guatemalan refugee Rosa (Zaide Silvia Gutiérrez) lays ailing in a Los Angeles hospital, ravaged by a fatal case of typhus acquired crawling through the rat-infested sewers underneath the Mexican-American border. Sadly resigned to her own death, she turns to her equally ill-fated brother Enrique (David Villalpando) to ask: “When will we find a home, Enrique? Maybe when we die?”–a blunt, heartbreaking moment among many.

But even setting aside the Guatemalan Civil War whose harsh realities provide El Norte its backdrop so too could Rosa’s mournful question could just as easily be asked in relation to the state of independent film in the Americas by the time of El Norte’s world premiere at the 1983 edition of the Telluride Film Festival.

After spending the bulk of the 1970s drinking and producing a series of increasingly unreleasable masterpieces, indie film pioneer John Cassavetes was,...

‘Bleeding’ Exclusive Trailer – Vampire Movie Sinks Its Teeth into Grimmfest in October [Trailer]

Joshua John Miller Fondly Recalls Working with Kathryn Bigelow on ‘Near Dark’ [Interview]
Image
In The Exorcism, Russell Crowe plays an actor and recovering addict terrorized by demons, personal and otherwise. His character, an actor on the set of a fictional horror movie, also happens to be terrorized by a cruel director (Adam Goldberg), something with which director Joshua John Miller has a lot of experience.

Joshua John Miller, who co-wrote The Exorcism with M.A. Fortin (The Final Girls), pulled from personal experiences when creating his psychological family drama meets possession horror story. It’s hard not to see the parallels between the director and Crowe’s character, Arthur Miller, an actor struggling to find his footing again when he lands a role as the priest in an exorcism horror movie. Joshua John Miller, the son of late actor Jason Miller (The Exorcist), started his film career as an actor at age eight and amassed notable acting credits that include Halloween III: Season of the Witch,...

Bower worked on John Cassavetes’ directorial debut, Shadows (1957), and played one of the translators that make a mess of things in the acclaimed Western The Ballad of Gregorio Cortez (1982), starring Edward James Olmos.

He portrayed the father of the 37th U.S. president in Oliver Stone’s Nixon (1995), starring Anthony Hopkins, and the father of Nicolas Cage’s Terence McDonagh in Werner Herzog’s Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans (2009).

And, he appeared for director Scott Cooper in Crazy Heart (2009) — as the agent of Jeff Bridges’ Bad Blake — and Out of the Furnace...

Watch Keanu Reeves’ Dogstar Showcase Pensive Song ‘Blonde’ on ‘Fallon’
Image
Dogstar stopped by The Tonight Show to perform their single “Blonde.” The group, led by actor and bassist Keanu Reeves, offered a powerhouse rendition of the anthemic track flanked by festive holiday lights.

The mid-tempo song comes off the alt-rock band’s recent third album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, which arrived in October. The wistful tune sees the band reflecting on loneliness as guitarist and singer Bret Domrose croons, “Can’t you stay here/ The way you change the dark to light/ Save me/ What you...

The Murderous True Story Behind 1986 Movie River's Edge
Image
"River's Edge" was one of the most important independent films of the 1980s. Directed by Tim Hunter from a screenplay by Neil Jimenez, it tells the soul-deadening story of a group of teens who cover for their friend after he murders another of their friends. What makes the movie especially disturbing is the teens' indifference; when they're taken to view the nude corpse, which the killer has dumped at the title location, most of them gaze at it with a galling lack of emotion.

"River's Edge" earned raves from critics and won Best Picture at the 1988 Independent Spirit Awards. It launched the careers of Keanu Reeves, Ione Skye, and Daniel Roebuck, and went a long way toward spurring Dennis Hopper's late '80s comeback. It is a scathing experience, one that leaves such an indelible mark you need not revisit it. You'll never shake the image of Danyi Deats...

Halloween Ends Took Inspiration (And A Last Name) From Another John Carpenter Classic
Image
David Gordon Green's 2022 slasher film "Halloween Ends" is an unusual entry in the series in many ways. In it, the vicious masked serial killer Michael Myers (James Jude Courtney) has been living in a sewer and stays out of the film's central action for the bulk of its running time. "Ends," instead, focuses largely on a character named Corey Cunningham (Rohan Campbell), a man who, two years ago, accidentally killed the young boy he was babysitting. Green envisioned Corey's hometown town of Haddonfield, Illinois as a bitter and wounded place, full of spiteful, hurt people who cannot heal from the murderous damage that Michael caused way back in 1978, as well as his return in 2018. Every citizen is bitter, angry, and paranoid. Corey is bullied and picked on, unable to outlive his mistake.

When Corey wanders into Michael's sewer (he was fleeing bullies), he finds Michael and a strange transference occurs.

See Keanu Reeves’ Excellent Bass Solo in Dogstar’s Video for New Song, ‘Breach’
Image
Dogstar have been trying to make a go of their sleek, post-grunge alt-rock for decades, but bassist Keanu Reeves’ and drummer Robert Mailhouse’s pesky day jobs as actors keep getting in the way. Now they have planned a third album, Somewhere Between the Power Lines and Palm Trees, due out Oct. 6, and a sleek new video for the song “Breach.”

The track is a slow-throbbing rocker in the vein of Urge Overkill or Queens of the Stone Age, in which singer-guitarist Bret Domrose sings, “And everything you want, it...

Keanu Reeves' Favorite Movies From His Career Aren't What You Expect
Image
When asked about his career, during press for John Wick: Chapter 4, Keanu Reeves listed his favorite films he's worked on and gave some unexpected answers. The actor, whose career began in the '80s, isn't showing any signs of slowing down. Reeves is still selling out theaters, making the internet go crazy for video game reveals, and charming fans with his off-screen behavior. The recent John Wick installment was a massive success, becoming one of his best-selling theatrical releases.

Most known for his role as Neo in The Matrix franchise, Reeves is primarily recognized for action and blockbuster movies. In the past two decades, many of his films have involved martial arts, or some form of hand-to-hand combat, in which he's gained a reputation for performing his own fight scenes. The star has also gained a reputation for being a genuine guy, and one of the most down-to-earth celebrities in Hollywood.

Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan in Creed. La leyenda de Rocky (2015)
What’s New on Amazon Prime Video in June 2023
Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan in Creed. La leyenda de Rocky (2015)
If you’re wondering what’s new on Amazon Prime Video in June, the answer is a lot. The streamer has a solid slate of movies heading into summer 2023. From the first two “Creed” films to “Love, Rosie,” “Yours, Mine & Ours” and other clever romantic comedies, the streamer has a range of options for viewers with different tastes. Newer theatrical releases arriving on the streamer in June include “TÁR,” “Armageddon Time,” and “M3GAN.”

TV premieres to look forward to include Boots Riley’s “I’m A Virgo” and the fourth and final season of John Krasinski’s “Jack Ryan.” “Crazy Rich Asians” arrives early in June, followed by “Interstellar” for all Christopher Nolan and Matthew McConaughey lovers. Even though “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” doesn’t release in theaters until November, all four “Hunger Games” films land on Prime Video this June. Perfect timing — maybe even with a reread...

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: June 2023
Image
With its list of new releases for June 2023, Prime is bringing a handful of Amazon Originals and many recent movie hits to the fold.

It’s actually quite a busy month for non-American programming in Amazon Originals department. Shows and movies like Deadloch, My Fault, and Medellín all originate from outside the U.S. and U.K. For the American and British crowd, however, the streamer is debuting two big tentpoles.

The first is I’m a Virgo on June 23. Acclaimed director Boots Riley’s TV followup to Sorry to Bother You will tale the surreal and satirical tale of a giant in Oakland. That will be followed by the more conventional (assumedly) fourth season of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan on June 30.

The real fireworks this month come from a ludicrously deep bench of library TV and movie titles. Give them a look for yourself below but if we were to highlight just a few,...

Crispin Glover
Wtf Happened to Crispin Glover?
Crispin Glover
Crispin Glover is one strange dude, but that’s what we love about him. First bursting onto the scene dancing his butt off in Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, and hitting the big time playing Marty McFly’s nerdy father, George, in Back to the Future, Glover could have gone on to a perfectly serviceable career as an inoffensive character actor, but to say he had other ideas is putting things mildly. The very next year, 1986, featured Glover in two memorably eccentric supporting roles: opposite Sean Penn in At Close Range and the other opposite Keanu Reeves in the cult classic River’s Edge. In 1989, Glover did the impossible; he crossed Steven Spielberg when he refused to return for the Back to the Future sequels and even sued when they reused footage of him from the first film.

Around the same time, Glover, in a move that was either brilliant or spectacularly ill-advised,...

Image
The fourth and final season of “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” arrives on Prime Video on June 30. It finds Ryan — now the new acting CIA director — unearthing internal corruption and suspicious black ops that leaves the United States vulnerable to attack. John Krasinski stars as the tough-as-nails Ryan.

Watch the “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” trailer:

“Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets” is a new docuseries that reveals the truth behind the myth of the wholesome religious family and their involvement with the predatory Bill Gothard and The Institute in Basic Life Principles. The organization’s abusive practices — and the insidious long political game it plays — is revealed on June 2. The Duggars and their 19 “happy” kids are exposed as frauds, while also being manipulated by Gothard and enduring the scandal of Josh, their sexually abusive son.

Keanu Reeves' Best Performance Is Also One of His Earliest
Image
Of his many iconic performances, Keanu Reeves’ best comes from the start of his career, in a brooding teenage drama called River’s Edge. After landing a few supporting roles, Reeves nabbed himself a starring role alongside a magnetic Crispin Glover as a teenager reeling from the brutal murder of a classmate. When John (Daniel Roebuck) confides in his friends that he murdered his girlfriend (Danyi Deats), the alienated and existentially-depressed group of teens attempt to make sense of the entirely senseless act. Credit is often given to Glover, whose performance as Layne is admittedly mesmerizing and esoteric, but Keanu’s efforts are equally deserving of praise, even if more reserved than Glover’s.

Nicolas Cage has “mixed feelings” on Keanu Reeves after he hustled him in pool
Image
“Watch them, the children of the night. What trick shots they make!” As Nicolas Cage gears up for the latest movie, Renfield (which seems like another blast from this phase of his career), he has recollected a moment between himself and Keanu Reeves that has left him with “mixed emotions” about the John Wick actor.

During their Reddit Ama (Ask Me Anything) this week to promote next month’s Renfield, stars Nicolas Cage and Nicholas Hoult were asked a series of questions related to both that movie and many others. With John Wick: Chapter 4 crushing it at the box office, the two were asked what their favorite Keanu Reeves movie was. While Hoult was direct, saying the first John Wick and 1994’s Speed, Cage was a bit, shall we say, cagey. While he did finally settle on “early stuff like Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure” and 1986’s River’s Edge...

Eerie, Indiana (1991 – 1993) – Horror TV Shows We Miss
Image
This episode of the Horror TV Shows We Miss video series was Written and Narrated by Niki Minter, Edited by Adam Walton, Produced by John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian. Here’s the text of the video script:

I think 1991 shaped my life before I even realized it did. Aeon Flux, Pete & Pete, Clarissa Explains It All, Liquid Television, The Addams Family, People Under the Stairs, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead, and of course, Eerie, Indiana.

All those shows and movies I just mentioned, I can still enjoy just the same as I did then. A few of them actually get repeat viewings throughout the year. There was something cool about these shows made for kids and teens around this time– they weren’t dumbing it down. Kids felt like they were watching something that they could experience for themselves– it was something that felt real. These...

Nicolas Cage would love to play DC Comics character, The Spectre
Image
The Nic(h)olases — Cage and Hoult — connected with the fans over the weekend in an Ama session on Reddit as the duo, who formerly played father and son in the underrated film, The Weather Man, promote their newest venture as master and servant in the horror comedy Renfield. The Nics were asked a wide range of questions, from their favorite soups to their favorite lesser-known roles.

A fan would inquire with Cage what other undead characters he would like to play now that he’s done both Ghost Rider and Dracula, and Cage was quick to answer,

“Ohh! Yeah! Jim Corrigan, the Spectre (old DC comic character). That would be a fun one. But that’s a hard one to pull off because he’s virtually invincible, he has no weakness. You need characters that have a kryptonite, that have a flaw, but he’s kinda unbeatable. But that would be a fun one.

Only Keanu Reeves Can Do What Keanu Reeves Does
Image
Hollywood was in the midst of its Brat Pack fervor when the director/screenwriter team of Tim Hunter and Neil Jimenez jolted moviegoers with "River's Edge." It was the grimy, dead-souled antithesis to John Hughes' peppy tales of suburban woe. The Northern California high schoolers in Hunter's film are dead-enders who, aware of their paltry worth to society, have little value for human life. When their friend John (Daniel Roebuck) claims he's murdered his girlfriend Jamie (Danyi Deats) and takes them to see her nude corpse, which he's discarded like a dog toy next to a riverbank, they do not recoil in horror. They are at most dumbstruck, and at worst eager to aid John in covering up the crime.

We should be shocked by their lack of revulsion, but Hunter lets us hang out with these kids for a good 15 minutes before taking us to Jamie. They're future burnouts...

We Love Keanu Reeves Too, But He Shouldn't Be The McU's Wolverine
Image
Keanu Reeves has recently revealed that he wants to play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Rumors of The Matrix and John Wick star coming to the MCU have been circulating for a number of years, with many theories arising over who Reeves could portray in Marvel Studios' shared franchise. After Disney's 2019 acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the options for MCU roles for Keanu Reeves increased tenfold. While it would be brilliant to see Reeves in the MCU in some capacity, his personal choice of character perhaps wouldn't be the best fit.

McU's Phase 6 will see Hugh Jackman reprise the role of Wolverine, the clawed member of the X-Men who Jackman has played since 2000's X-Men. It's unlikely that Jackman will permanently play Wolverine in the MCU after the Multiverse Saga, opening the door for a new actor to don the legendary adamantium claws. During a Reddit Ama, Keanu Reeves...

Keanu Reeves Still Owns the ‘First Red Pill the Wachowskis Ever Gave Me’ on ‘The Matrix’ Set
Image
Keanu Reeves recently joined Reddit for an Ask Me Anything (Ama) session, where he revealed he is the owner of the original red pill from “The Matrix” franchise. In Lilly and Lana Wachowski’s iconic 1999 action movie, Reeves’ character, Neo, must choose between taking a red pill (that will make him see the truth about the simulated reality he’s living in) or a blue pill (that will keep Neo blinded about the real world and stuck in his droll life). Neo chooses red, and so did Reeves.

Asked by a Redditor if he’s ever stolen something from set, Reeves answered: “Not stolen… the watch and wedding ring from ‘John Wick,’ a sword from ’47 Ronin,’ and the first red pill that the Wachowskis ever gave me.”

Reeves has keepsakes from both of his beloved action franchises, “The Matrix” and “John Wick,” but he refused to compare the two series...

Hugh Jackman
Keanu Reeves Always Wanted to Play Wolverine and 9 Other Things We Learned From His Reddit Ama
Hugh Jackman
While Hugh Jackman is currently beefing up to play Wolverine for the ninth time in “Deadpool 3,” another beloved actor just revealed he would have loved a shot at the role: Keanu Reeves.

While taking part in a reddit Ama, Reeves was asked if there’s ever been a role in his career that he regretted turning down. He said no, but that he “did always want to play Wolverine,” no doubt jump-starting a whole new fan campaign to get the 58-year-old actor in the role if/when the Marvel Cinematic Universe recasts.

Reeves is no stranger to comic book movies, having led 2005’s DC adaptation “Constantine,” a role he intends to reprise in an upcoming sequel at Warner Bros. But Keanu Reeves as Wolverine? Where’s a “Bill and Ted” time machine when you need it?

The “Matrix” actor’s delightful interactions with fans during the Ama also offered a number of other revelations.
