Making a film in under 25 days is a monumental feat for a filmmaker. However, with clever budgeting, creativity, and resourcefulness from a talented cast and crew, films can be made in a few days and even in a few hours.
Victoria (2015) and Russian Ark (2002) were filmed in a single continuous shot, pushing the boundaries of a well-thought-out planned production.
Many of these come from first-time independent filmmakers, including The Blair Witch Project (1998); Paranormal Activity ( 2007), Clerks (1994); Mind, Body & Soul (2024); El Mariachi (1992); Get Out (2017); Napoleon Dynamite (2004) and Fruitvale Station (2013). These movies stand as testaments to the power of resourceful directing, proving that films can be made quickly and effectively on any budget.
Take a look back at movies that were made in under 23 days that were released at the box office.

In “Sting,” a giant-spider-grows-in-Brooklyn thriller that’s cheeky, bloody, and (most important) very gooey, Sting is the name given by Charlotte (Alyla Browne), a precocious tween, to the elegant two-inch-long black spider that becomes her pet (she keeps it in a jar and feeds it bugs). Yet given how much slaughter is caused by this omnivorous arachnid, which grows bigger and bigger with each feeding, the moniker turns out to be a major understatement. It’s as if Jason Vorhees were named “Paper Cut.”
“Sting” is a wee sliver of a horror film that’s tongue-in-cheek but also quite matter-of-fact about its creature-feature jokiness. It’s the monster-bug thriller as light dessert. The spider, it turns out, is an alien — after a gruesome prologue with lots of whooshing “Evil Dead” camera movement, the movie cuts to four days earlier, when a fiery meteorite crashes through an apartment roof in South...

Plot: Steve Martin is one of the most beloved and enigmatic figures in entertainment. “Steve! (martin) a documentary in 2 pieces” dives into his extraordinary story from two distinct points of view, with companion documentaries that feature never-before-seen footage and raw insights into Steve’s personal and professional trials and triumphs. “Then” chronicles Steve Martin’s early struggles and meteoric rise to revolutionize standup before walking away at 35. “Now” focuses on the present day, with Steve Martin in the golden years of his career, retracing the transformation that led to happiness in his art and personal life.
Review: It pains me to think that a generation is growing up that does not hold Steve Martin in the same regard as generations past. At 78 years old, Martin was the biggest comedian of all time for some, a movie star for others, and one of the old guys from Only Murders in the Building for the rest.

There is a good chance Ace Ventura: Pet Detective will come up in conversation if you ask someone who is strolling their dog on the street about their favorite Jim Carrey flick. Ace Ventura: Pet Detective earned mixed reviews upon its initial release, so it is almost funny to see how beloved it has become among fans despite this fact. Nevertheless, the film remains a hilarious detective satire.
Reviewers and viewers alike had a major effect because of Carrey’s performance. Not only did it initiate the actor’s cinematic career, but it also initiated a franchise. Having said that, what if we told you that Carrey was not the first choice to play such an iconic character?
Jim Carrey in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective
The original contender for the role is also a legendary figure in the comedy film industry, but his comedic sensibility is nothing like Carrey’s outrageous and wild improvisation.

After dabbling in TV for much of the last decade, Gremlins and The Howling director Joe Dante is set to return to feature filmmaking with his first project since 2014’s Burying the Ex. Dante, who kicked off his career in the late 1970s with the Roger Corman-backed Hollywood Boulevard and Piranha, will now reunite with the legendary filmmaker for a reboot of Little Shop of Horrors.
Initially directed by Corman in 1960 as a micro-budget feature (starring a young Jack Nicholson!), the story was then re-popularized in the 1980s with Frank Oz’s take, itself based on Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman’s Off-Broadway play. This new version is titled Little Shop of Halloween Horrors, Deadline reports. Corman will produce Dante’s reboot, which is described as a hopeful franchise-starter (continuer?), but there are no other specific details outside of the obvious Halloween theme of the title.

A remake of Little Shop Of Horrors is in the works with director Joe Dante and original creator Roger Corman.
The last update we had on a remake of Little Shop Of Horrors was back in 2020, when it was reported that Taron Egerton, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Evans were set to star, with Greg Berlanti directing from a script by Matthew Robinson.
It now appears those plans have been abandoned in favour of a different creative team. Described as a “reimagining intended to jumpstart a new franchise”, Little Shop Of Halloween Horrors will be directed by Joe Dante, according to Deadline.
Charles S Haas, who previously collaborated with Dante on Gremlins 2: The New Batch, will write the screenplay. Roger Corman will co-produce with Brad Krevoy.

“Harry Potter” franchise professor Miriam Margolyes told News Corp Australia’s News.com.au that she was approached by Marvel to star in a project described to her as “a story about witches. But she ultimately turned it down due to its location, along with the fact that playing the Potter films’ Pomona Sprout had her reluctant to play in the magic world again. Given the timing and Marvel’s projects in development, it appears to be “WandaVision” spinoff miniseries “Agatha.”
The actress explained in the interview, published last year, that the show’s location was a problem for her. “I don’t like America and I didn’t want to be in Georgia for four months,” she said. “So I just said, ‘well, I want a million pounds’ and they said, ‘you can have half a million,’ and I said, ‘no, I don’t want to do it,’ so it just stopped.

Get in, loser, we're bringing back the horror/comedy. Recent attempts to find our next great, mainstream-friendly horror franchise have mostly involved such uninspired efforts as Disney's "Haunted Mansion" remake and, most recently, the news that Hollywood is giving "The Blob" another shot. This time, however, no lesser talents than horror legends Joe Dante and Roger Corman are teaming up to reboot the classic 1960 film "The Little Shop of Horrors." Even the most ardently anti-remake fan out there would have to admit that this feels like a win-win.
The exciting news comes courtesy of Deadline, which reports that this "reimagining" is meant to kickstart a whole new franchise, a phrase that would surely cause a shiver to run down the spine of anyone who witnessed something like Universal's "Dark Universe" gambit flame out in spectacular fashion ... if it weren't for the filmmakers involved on this project, that is. Australian actress Miriam Margolyes who portrayed Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter film series (2002-2011) decided to annihilate the adult fans of the franchise. In one of her recent interviews, Margolyes claimed that Harry Potter is “for children” and adult fans should get over it, now. For a lot of people between the ages of 25 and 35, the franchise played a key role in shaping their childhood. So obviously, the Harry Potter films are still comfort films for a large part of the generation.

Then, in November 2023, *Nsync walked the purple carpet to celebrate the premiere of Trolls Band Together. They recorded “Better Place” for the animated musical comedy’s soundtrack.

The hit HBO show, Westworld, which was based on the Michael Crichton 1973 film of the same name, was a shocking and unfortunate cancellation made by Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav. While Zaslav has notoriously jettisoned projects in the past, Westworld was a television series that was not only up and running in its fourth season but was also a big hit for the premium cable network. The series that Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy had created was building to a fifth and final season. In the wake of the cancellation back in 2022, Nolan stated that they had been fighting to conclude the series when he told THR, “We always planned for a fifth and final season. We are still in conversations with the network. We very much hope to make them.”

Evan Rachel Wood Still Doesn’t Know ‘Westworld’ Ending After Cancellation: “It Keeps Me Up at Night”
Evan Rachel Wood knows about as much as fans when it comes to what Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan had up their sleeves for the final season of their hit HBO series — which is to say, she knows nothing at all.
Wood, who spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of her New York stage debut as Audrey in the off-Broadway production of Little Shop of Horrors, revealed during the sit-down that she had asked the Westworld creators about where the show was headed following the season four finale, “Que Sera Sera.” In it, humanity — and most sentient life — essentially ends after a season that saw the park androids seizing control, flipping the power scales to control humans the way hosts once were.
After a series of moves that saw virtually the entire main cast die, Wood’s character Dolores — the original park’s oldest continuous host and its...

It’s early afternoon on a Friday when Darren Criss and Evan Rachel Wood pick up the phone, just five days before they are set to debut as the new Seymour and Audrey in off-Broadway’s Little Shop of Horrors.
Both are on their way to the Westside Theatre stage for their first top-to-bottom run-through, taking over the complicated but beloved characters based on Roger Corman’s 1960 horror comedy and deftly adapted for the stage by theater legends Howard Ashman (book and lyrics) and Alan Menken (music).
Now in the fifth year of the U.S. revival of the dark goings-on of a Skid Row flower shop, several notable names have left their mark on the show: Jonathan Groff, Jeremy Jordan, Conrad Ricamora, Corbin Bleu, Constance Wu, Maude Apatow, Tammy Blanchard and Lena Hall. But none quite like this, as an intentional leap together among friends.

"I wanted to know America, like I once knew the seams of a basketball." HBO Max has revealed an official trailer for a sports biopic documentary called Rolling Along: An American Story, available streaming at the start of February on Max. "A story about all of us." Written & performed by two-time NBA Champion, former U.S. Senator, and lifelong storyteller Bill Bradley. The former NBA star and Senator recounts his life from Mississippi childhood to Princeton basketball fame, to the NBA, to 18 years in the Senate focused on rights, education & growth, and finally his presidential bid. After spending six years writing, developing, and performing his story on stage as a one-man show, Bradley partnered with the Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Frank Oz, Academy Award winner Spike Lee, and Emmy Award-winning producer Mike Tollin to share this performative autobiography. Anthony Ing's Jill, Uncredited screens exclusively on Mubi from November 29, 2023, in the series Brief Encounters.Jill, Uncredited. My interest in doing a project about extras came from doing archival research where I would have to watch and rewatch scenes from old films. I found myself wondering about those peripheral figures who live their lives in the margins of the narrative. You might see someone reading a book on a train platform, a nurse wheeling a trolley out of frame, or a soldier looking forlorn—then, just like that, they’re gone and you never see them again. We all have background characters in our own lives, and we’ve all been background characters in other people’s lives. Some may feel it more than others; they might feel backgrounded by louder, more confident people in the room. But others might take comfort in it—after all, it doesn’t...

Films come in various lengths, and some filmmakers have created exceptionally long movies that push the boundaries of time. While this might seem daunting to some, it offers the opportunity to become fully engrossed in the storytelling and be transported to epic battles, as seen in such pics as War and Peace or Gettysburg, or to faraway lands, such as ancient Egypt in Cleopatra.

Traditionally the best horror films have been rated R to provide fans with the appropriate blood, guts and chills required to give a proper scare, but every so often one comes along that the MPAA doesn’t think warrants such a harsh rating yet still gives that blood curdling, spine tingling spook fest you would want from a horror movie of any rating. With Halloween now just days away, America’s thoughts turn increasingly to witches, demons, the paranormal and scaring the heck out of ourselves. And of course, few things accomplish this goal better than horror movies, a genre the United States has largely claimed as its own. To get everyone in the spirit, the website bank-locations.net launched a state-by-state study of Google to discern (based on searches) which Halloween-themed flicks were most popular in each state of the union.
To generate its conclusions, the research team analyzed 200+ top-rated horror films from IMDb and Rotten Tomatoes, then studied specific searches for each movie. For example, for “The Shining,” they gathered keywords like “watch the shining,” “the shining full movie,” “”the shining streaming, “The shining netflix” and “where to watch the shining.”
Horror movies were split into two groups: those before 2000 and those after. More than half of the states (27) preferred Googling...

HeBGB TV was among my favorite films I saw at Salem Horror Fest earlier this year, so I’m delighted that the frenetic horror-comedy anthology has made its way to Cineverse and Bloody Disgusting’s streaming service Screambox in time for Halloween.
In my review, I called it “a high-camp blend of the wistful glow of Wnuf Halloween Special, the uninhibited hyperactivity of Rick and Morty‘s “Interdimensional Cable” episodes, and the absurd unpredictability of Adult Swim’s Too Many Cooks.”
What I didn’t mention was all nods to genre favorites peppered throughout the film.
Here are 17 horror references in HeBGB TV.
1. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers
HeBGB TV’s opening credits are inspired by the Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers title sequence, which perfectly captures the autumnal atmosphere.
2. Creature from the Black Lagoon
The boy in the opening scene is playing with a Creature from the Black Lagoon figure.

Actors Jamie Lee Curtis and Christopher Guest’s romance spans over four decades, beginning with Curtis revealing that it was love at first sight.
“I met my husband by seeing his picture in a magazine and saying out loud to a friend of mine, ‘I’m going to marry that dude,’ and married him … months later,” Curtis shared on Today in 2021. “So the truth of the matter is life hinged for me on a couple seconds that I didn’t see coming.”
Curtis ended up meeting Guest through a chance meeting in 1984. Initially, a friend gave Curtis Guest’s agent’s phone number. She called him but he never returned her call. But it was Kismet when she bumped into him at a restaurant.

Curtis recalled that initial meeting with Guest. “He was sitting about 10 feet away and he looked at me and kind of nodded.

Steve Martin Fires Back At Miriam Margolyes’ Claim He Was ‘Horrid’ To Her On Set: ‘I Have To Object’
Steve Martin is responding to accusations from one-time co-star Miriam Magoyles that he was “horrid” to her while filming the musical comedy “Little Shop of Horrors”.
In the 1986 film, Martin portrayed sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, while Margoyles played his dental assistant.
“But when it is implied that I harmed her or was in some way careless about doing the stunts, I have to object.”
In her new memoir, Oh Miriam! Stories From an Extraordinary Life , the British actress details being battered for real while shooting a musical number in which his character punches his assistant in the face, and then slams a door in her face.
“I was hit all day by doors opening in my face; repeatedly punched, slapped and knocked down by an unlovely and unapologetic Steve Martin — perhaps he was Method acting — and came home grumpy with a splitting headache,” she wrote (as reported by HuffPost UK...

Faster than you can say “nitrous oxide”, Steve Martin has responded to claims that there was “horrid” behavior on the set of the 1986 musical horror-comedy Little Shop of Horrors, refuting what co-star Miriam Margolyes says was a miserable and abusive experience. First, they come after Martin Short and now Steve Martin – can’t we just have nice things?!
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Steve Martin remembered the specific Little Shop of Horrors scene in question, saying, “When I first read Miriam Margolyes pejorative account of our scene in Little Shop of Horrors, I was surprised. My memory is that we had a good communication as professional actors…But when it is implied that I harmed her or was in some way careless about doing the stunts, I have to object. I remember taking Extreme caution regarding the fake punch — the same caution I would use with any similar scene.

Steve Martin has responded to allegations made by Miriam Margolyes, his co-star in 1986’s Little Shop of Horrors.
In her new memoir Oh Miriam: Stories From An Extraordinary Life, the veteran actress wrote of playing a dental assistant to Martin’s Orin Scrivello D.D.S., specifically a sequence in which Martin’s character slams a door in the face of Margolyes’ character and punches her.
“I was hit all day by doors opening in my face; repeatedly punched, slapped and knocked down by an unlovely and unapologetic Steve Martin – perhaps he was method acting – and came home grumpy with a splitting headache.”
Her overall appraisal? Martin was “undeniably brilliant, but horrid to me.”
Martin addressed the allegations in a statement to Deadline:

In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, Martin said he remembered their time on set differently, noting he took “extreme caution” when it came to filming the scene in which Margolyes said he actually hit her.
“When I first read Miriam Margolyes pejorative account of our scene in Little Shop of Horrors, I was surprised. My memory is that we had a good communication as professional actors,” Martin’s statement read. “But when it is implied that I harmed her or was in some way careless about doing the stunts, I have to object. I remember taking Extreme caution regarding the fake punch — the same caution I would use with any similar scene.”

English actress Miriam Margolyes is a veteran of many projects and has always been hilariously eccentric and inappropriate for someone who looks like a sweet grandmother. She also minces no words when it comes to working with actors who were acting rude, even to the faces of those who had close relationships with the said subjects. She’s openly criticized her encounter with the creator of the hit sitcom Friends to Matthew Perry’s face, as well as not enjoying Winona Ryder’s attitude when working with her on The Age of Innocence, although she maintains that Martin Scorsese was as sweet as can be.
The Harry Potter actress had released her memoir in which she bestows her inside experiences on the many TV and film productions she’s worked on. One of the stories she reveals was Steve Martin being a little too into his dentist role in 1986’s Little Shop of Horrors.

Miriam Margolyes writes in her new memoir, “Oh Miriam! Stories from an Extraordinary Life,” that Steve Martin was “horrid” to her on the set of Frank Oz’s 1986 “Little Shop of Horrors” movie musical (via HuffPo UK). Martin played the sadistic dentist Orin Scrivello, while Margolyes, best known these days for playing Professor Sprout in the “Harry Potter” film series, starred as his character’s assistant. They shared a musical number, “Dentist!,” in which his character slams a door in her face. Apparently he did so for real.
“During my only musical number (‘Dentist!’) I was hit all day by doors opening in my face; repeatedly punched, slapped, and knocked down by an unlovely and unapologetic Steve Martin,” Margolyes writes. “Perhaps he was method acting – and came home grumpy with a splitting headache.”
While Margolyes calls Martin “undeniably brilliant,” she adds, “but horrid to me….Let it not be said...

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have endured in the pop culture consciousness for well over 30 years now, in no small part thanks to the '80s animated TV show and, perhaps more importantly, the wildly successful 1990 blockbuster live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" film. Directed by Steve Barron, that movie was truly the point of no return. The Turtles became superstars and, arguably, for a time, the most popular superheroes in North America. But things could have been quite different if an early pitch for a film adaptation had been received more warmly.
/Film's Ben Pearson recently spoke with "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman in honor of the home video release of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem." During the conversation, Eastman recalled a pitch from none other than B-movie maestro Roger Corman in the '80s for a low-budget movie featuring Donnie, Leo, Raph, and Mikey. The craziest part?...
