This Pom Pom falls kind of flat.

Is this second sequel to Pom Pom, Hong Kong detectives Chau and Beethoven join forces with Mr. Boo, played by comic legend Michael Hui) in a daring mission involving a jewelry heist and a museum caper.

While the fun, physical comedy of Chau and Beethoven and tripled with Mr. Boo in the picture, much of the movie's plot lacks the captivation of the first two movies, as the story is sometimes lost in the uninteresting subplot of the relationship between Mr. Boo and his snobby and unfaithful wife. From what I remember, the action takes a while to generate much excitement and it seemed the detectives couldn't gain much traction in their cases at times.

While it's not a horrible movie and the acting was decent, this sequel doesn't come to par with the other films in the series.

The best Pom Pom yet

Warning: Spoilers
I do enjoy these POM POM films, which offer the irresistible pairing of Richard Ng and John Sham in a series of broadly comic escapades, and MR. BOO MEETS POM POM is the third in the series. This one changes the formula a bit by including a character from another franchise, Michael Hui's Mr. Boo, and the end result makes this the best POM POM yet. It's faster and more frenetic, with more interplay between these crazy characters and generally more surreal stuff and sight gags. The cast is excellent and Hui himself feels a natural fit for this kind of madcap humour, and the whole thing has a zany, feel good feel to it. More importantly, it's very funny, too.
