What is it like to juggle the bright lights of stardom with the beautiful chaos of family life? Hugh Grant, in a conversation with The Undoing co-star Nicole Kidman, once shared a more intimate view of this very balance—or, sometimes, the lack thereof.
The Maurice actor, 63, has to stay away from his beloved kids in London, whom he once described to People as “the nicest thing that has ever happened to me”, while filming David E. Kelley’s HBO thriller series in New York City. Despite the enticing opportunity for five months during the 2019 production, Grant quickly realized that distance did not make his heart grow fonder, but rather, accentuated a profound sense of missing out.

Maïwenn’s Jeanne du Barry is a work without a unifying thesis. Born Jeanne Bécu in 1743, Louis Xv’s favorite mistress (played as an adult by Maïwenn herself) was a courtesan who was elevated to a countess, and to the scandalized horror of the French court. At first, the film seems primed to deliver a send-up of courtly ritual and hypocritical noble decorum, à la Sofia Coppola’s Marie Antoinette. But like the real Countess du Barry, it’s eventually caught up in the very pomp and splendor that it initially lampoons.
It’s in that initial, comical examination of court etiquette that Maïwenn’s film is at its strongest. When Jeanne, a courtesan favored by aristocrats who take her along to court, arrives at Versailles and is offered like livestock to Louis Xv (Johnny Depp), we see through her eyes how the palace has turned every single action into...

If Dua Lipa was building a capsule wardrobe, she would absolutely include an oversized leather trench coat. The “Love Again” singer has been giving The Matrix vibes since late March when she debuted the first of many leather trench looks while traveling with boyfriend Callum Turner in London. See the Argylle star’s jackets of choice and how she accessorized them:

Most recently, Dua Lipa stepped out in New York City for media interviews and some big-city fun. As she entered Midtown’s SiriusXM Studios — likely publicizing her forthcoming album, Radical Optimism — she donned her third trench of the last 30 days. The “Levitating” singer wore an oversized black leather trench coat with a Mandarin-style collar and large buttons. The jacket likely included shoulder pads as Dua’s lithe figure doesn’t normally strike such a dramatic silhouette.

Elvis Presley‘s Graceland is where the king of rock and roll’s fans can learn even more about the entertainer on his home turf. Graceland was Presley’s home for 20 years and stores thousands of pieces of artifacts. One of the ways the Presley family home reinvents itself is with exhibits that feature information about the entertainer in a new way. Its latest features artifacts from the Baz Luhrmann feature film Elvis. Fans believe it should be made permanent because of Lisa Marie Presley’s love of the project.

The Euphoria Emmy Award winner has been selected to receive a CinemaCon Star of the Year award during the Big Screen Achievement Awards on April 27. The ceremony, held at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, will close out the National Association of Theatre Owners’ official convention.

Marie Antoinette’s reign at PBS begins on March 19. The public broadcaster’s new series about the infamous French queen stars Emilia Schüle as the young Austrian archduchess who is married off to Louis, the dauphin of France (Louis Cunningham). It’s just the latest on-screen depiction of the legendary royal. Here are five movies about Marie Antoinette to watch before you binge the new show.
Kirsten Dunst starred in Sofia Coppola’s ‘Marie Antoinette’
At 15 she became a bride. At 19 she became a queen. By 20 she was a legend.

Kirsten Dunst played a young Marie Antoinette in Sofia Coppola’s lavish, occasionally anachronistic 2006 period drama Maria Antoinette. It covers some of the same territory as the new PBS series, including the young queen’s awkward early years at Versailles.

Lisa Marie Presley was always clear about who she wanted to leave Graceland to, according to Elvis Presley Enterprises managing partner, Joel Weinshanker.
Joel made an appearance on Sirius Xm’s Elvis Radio on Wednesday, Feb.1, which would have been Lisa Marie’s 55th birthday. She passed away suddenly on Jan. 12.
Joel said of Graceland, “Everyone knew that when Elvis passed away, he left everything to his little girl. He did so knowing that she would be the one to keep his legacy going,” People reported.
“We got along so well because we were both trying to do what was best for Elvis, regardless of what somebody else was trying to do, regardless of what a family member would do,” he continued.
“Lisa couldn’t be bought, she couldn’t be pushed. If she felt that something wasn’t in Elvis’ best interest, it was never about money. And she...

Marie Kondo delivered a shock to fans during a recent webinar to promote her latest book, “Marie Kondo’s Kurashi at Home: How to Organize Your Space and Achieve Your Ideal Life.” The decluttering queen is no longer tidying up as much after giving birth to her third son, or as Kondo put it, “My house is messy” (via The Washington Post).
Kondo became an international phenomenon in 2019 with the launch of her Netflix reality series “Tidying Up,” in which she helped people clean up their messy homes and declutter their spaces in an attempt to restore calmness and “spark joy” in their lives. While Kondo has long been devoted to decluttering “physical” spaces, her new book also stresses the importance of cleaning up mental and emotional spaces. In other words, keeping your clothes folded and organized can be just as important as listening to classical music in the morning...

Bloody Disgusting’s Pearl review is spoiler-free.
Writer/Director Ti West nestled his ode to independent, exploitation filmmaking into ‘70s set slasher X. For its prequel, West rewinds the clock much further to pay tribute to the Golden Age of Hollywood. Mia Goth reprises her role as the repressed killer Pearl, this time exploring a much different, younger side. Pearl makes for a vastly different viewing experience thanks to its drastic shifts in style, tone, and cinematic influences, but with enough connective tissue to enrich its predecessor.
Set in 1918, Pearl longs to get away from her family’s farm. Her husband is away at war. She lives with her strict German mother (Tandi Wright) and is forced to care for her sickly father (Matthew Sunderland). Pearl is a dreamer, though; she spends her time shirking responsibilities, sneaking off to the movies, or dancing around the barn and at home. After...

Exclusive: French network M6 has ordered a drama about a man who manipulates women and turns deception into an art form.
The commission marks a debut series for Banijay France label Shine Fiction, which is co-producing Serial Lover with Amaury Fournial from Sibaro Films. Banijay Rights takes international sales.
Written by Alice Den Broek and directed by Fred Berthe, Serial Lover‘s synopsis bills the show as “the story of a shrewd man who lives many different lives – a pilot, a surgeon, a broker, a journalist; developing a new personality for every identity and deceiving experts in each field. Handsome, charming, and attentive, exhilarated by his power, the deception becomes an art form as he manipulates all those around him, especially women who he targets and steals from. How many women have fallen in this trap?”

"Better Call Saul" ended with the series finale, "Saul Gone." The prequel/sequel series told the story of James McGill and his descent into deceit and criminality. Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman was filled with heartbreak, familial trauma, and many fantastic montages. Interestingly enough, the series finale doesn't just feel like the ending to "Better Call Saul" — it feels like a definitive conclusion to the "Breaking Bad" universe that started in 2008.
"Saul Gone" plays like an episode that knows it will be the last time you see the actors portray these characters on screen, and it doesn't waste any opportunity to remind you of who they are. Throughout 11 seasons of television and one feature-length film, Vince Gilligan, Peter Gould, and so many other talented writers and directors created a rich, character-driven world. One that feels like it's come to its natural end with the series finale of "Better Call Saul.

Major spoilers for the final episode of "Better Call Saul" follow.
This might be a controversial opinion, but the series finale of "Breaking Bad," appropriately titled "Felina," has one major flaw. While it certainly gave closure to the story of Walter White (Bryan Cranston), egregious fanservice helped pave that way. The involvement of Badger (Matt Jones) and Skinny Pete (Charles Baker) in his final act of revenge against the Schwartzs (Adam Godley and Jessica Hecht) always felt a bit contrived, like the point of the scene was to shoehorn in these characters first in order to clumsily tie up loose ends. It's a bit of a tedious scene in an episode that is otherwise wonderfully paced and executed.

There are diverse streaming releases slates and then there is Hulu’s list of new releases for May 2022. There are no big franchises here, no big themes – just a whole bunch of original and library titles for everyone to enjoy.
Hulu’s major original releases in May come in the middle of the month. Candy premieres on May 9 and stars Jessica Biel as your friendly neighborhood axe murderer. If that sounds a bit outlandish, bear in mind that this limited series is based on the real life story of Candy Montgomery and her victim, the tragically named Betty Gore. On May 15, Hulu will play host to Conversations with Friends. This is the latest adaptation of the works of Sally Rooney. After the breakaway success of Normal People, Hulu is undoubtedly hoping for more lightning in a bottle.

If and when the Covid-19 pandemic fully ceases, one of the relics from this bizarre time (beyond the face masks) will be the Covid movie. To keep the content flowing during the height of the pandemic, studios pushed smaller pictures that had a limited cast and limited locations into production. Movies like Locked Down, Malcom and Marie, The Guilty, and Kimi, whether explicitly about our current situation or not, made what they could of a bad situation and told smaller scale stories to various degrees of success. It’s become something of its own genre.

A new documentary film about Buffy Sainte-Marie, the first and only Indigenous person to win an Academy Award, has begun production and will be helmed by director Madison Thomas.
Titled “Buffy Sainte-Marie: Carry It On,” the feature will be an in-depth look at the life of the activist and musician, described as a “cinematic, poetic and musically-infused journey, blending an extraordinary collection of archival material, some never seen before, with present-day footage of Buffy performing and interviews with her bandmates, colleagues and Buffy herself.”
“To turn one’s life story over to a documentary production is a leap of faith, but with White Pine Pictures and Eagle Vision, the process is feeling natural to me,” Sainte-Marie says in an exclusive statement to Variety. “I look forward to experiencing the story of my life as told through their lens and sharing that story with the world.”

Jason Woliner’s “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm” received boosts from winning the Globes’ best picture comedy prize and nabbing a surprise Producers Guild of America nomination. Still, it’ll be tricky to see the film picking up the broad support needed to land a nom in the Academy’s top category. It does, however, help star Maria Bakalova, who has become a darling of this year’s quarantine campaign trail.

Actress Rosamund Pike has warned we are “losing our grip on what we really look like” as she revealed her breasts and eyes have been doctored for movie promotions:
The star of "Gone Girl", "I Care a Lot" and revealing pictorials for various lifestyle and fashion magazines, said her breasts were 'augmented' for the "Johnny English Reborn" (2011) movie poster and in 2019 her eyes were changed to brown in promotional material for the 'Marie Curie' feature "Radioactive".
"In the poster for the character shot in 'Johnny English Reborn', I've got a very impressive chest — which I don't have," she said.
"And for 'Radioactive', strangely, they made my eyes brown, which I still don’t quite know why."
Pike said the whole thing was "odd" and it made her wonder if people always know when their image has been altered.

By its very nature, “Malcolm & Marie” — a dialogue-driven story about the relationship between two characters that takes place in one location over the course of a single night — had the potential to feel like a stage play. But what writer and director Sam Levinson was reaching for was something quite different: a visually dynamic film that told its story through the camera and use of space, as much as it did through his words and the two actors’ performances.
When Levinson was on IndieWire’s Filmmaker Toolkit podcast, he discussed how finding the visual language and style of his new Netflix movie was a process of trial and error.
“It’s funny, we initially started with ten shooting days, [cinematographer] Marcel [Rev] and I had this very specific formal plan of how we’re going to shoot this thing,” said Levinson. “I always loved [director Otto] Preminger’s blocking and movement, specifically ‘Bunny Lake Is Missing,...

Moments ago, the 26th annual Critics Choice Association revealed who and what their nominees are. For this very unique year, there’s of course a very unique slate of nominated films and talent. Scoring the most nominations this time around was David Fincher’s Mank, with Lee Isaac Chung’s Minari not far behind. Showing up for the first time in a clutch spot was Ben Affleck in Best Actor for The Way Back, while Never Rarely Sometimes Always still managed a handful of citations. Cca spread the love, as expected, though undoubtedly it was a strong showing for Netflix. Stay tuned to see how the Critics Choice Awards go down next month… Here now is the list of nominees: Best Picture Da 5 Bloods (Netflix) Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix) Mank (Netflix) Minari (A24) News of the World (Universal Pictures) Nomadland (Searchlight Pictures) One Night in Miami (Amazon Studios) Promising Young Woman...

After months of hype, Malcolm & Marie starring Zendaya and John David Washington is now available on Netflix, and the response to the the toxic love story has been overwhelming. Just a few hours before the film was officially released, Zendaya took to Instagram to share an emotional thank you letter to the film's crew and to discuss her initial nerves about taking on such an extensive project for the first time in her acting career.
"Full of excitement and nervousness as this lil movie we made in lockdown with people I love is coming out in the next few hours," she wrote. "Nervousness for a few reasons. Normally I'm pretty self-critical and that leads me to be far too fearful to make things myself or trust myself enough to even try. This is really my first time believing that maybe I could.

Julio Perez IV’s music exploration works in reverse with his age. When he was a young teenager in the mid-‘80s, he was discovering the funk of the early ‘70s. When he was a college student in the ‘90s, he was getting exposed to ‘60s surf rock and ‘50s jazz. Current or classic, the film editor’s music obsession has stood him in good stead as his extensive knowledge comes into play on every project on which he works. This includes his most recent film, Sam Levinson’s “Malcolm & Marie,” starring Zendaya and John David Washington (read Variety‘s review here), which is now streaming on Netflix.
For “Malcolm & Marie,” Perez worked with his “Euphoria” music team, which includes music supervisor Jen Malone, composer (and hit singer-songwriter) Labrinth, and cinematographer Marcell Rev in addition to writer/director Levinson. From soul to funk, jazz, hip hop and R&b,...

Last year, Netflix became the first outlet ever to lead both the film and television nominations at the Golden Globes. The streamer did it again this year in an even more dominating fashion, earning a staggering 42 nominations across film and TV, a new record and more than half the total of all other distributors combined (83).
Netflix is the most nominated film distributor with 22 noms, led by Mank and The Trial of the Chicago 7, and the most nominated TV distributor with 20 noms, paced by The Crown and Ozark.
Streaming viewing exploded during the coronavirus pandemic as people have stayed home. And with movie theaters shut down by Covid-19, SVOD platforms were the only way for features to reach a wide audience, leading to a lot of films earmarked for theatrical distribution to be sold to streamers.

As the announcement of this year’s Academy Award nominations near, much focus, particularly in the technical categories, has centered on “Tenet,” the fall 2020 release that was written, produced and directed by Christopher Nolan. The celebrated filmmaker, who has only 10 movies to his name but has attracted a fervent fan base over the years, has fascinated audiences for two decades both with his intricate puzzlers and his genre inversions, especially with his “Dark Knight” trilogy of “Batman” films.

Photo: ‘Penguin Bloom’/Netflix ‘Penguin Bloom’ the newest film from streaming service Netflix and director Glendyn Ivin (‘Safe Harbour’) is as beautiful plot-wise as it is visually. It starts with the narration from debut actor Griffin Murray-Johnston and begins a deeply moving and personal tale. The film opens on a montage of the family celebrating and exploring Thailand, a cheerful prelude for the drama to come. Within the first five minutes, we learn that able-bodied Naomi Watts (‘Mulholland Drive’) falls off a building in a freak accident while her husband, Andrew Lincoln (‘The Walking Dead’) watches. The rest of the story plays out in painstaking detail as Watts’s character struggles to recover while Lincoln tries to hold their family together. It’s a grueling, heart-wrenching tale that highlights the skills of Murray-Johnston, Watts, and Lincoln. Related article: Review: Apple TV Hits the Jackpot Again with Creator Sigal Avin’s...

“There is no theme. Film whatever you want, however you want, with whomever you want.” This is the message that Egyptian filmmaker Sam Abbas sent to his favorite cinematographers as an invitation to contribute to the new film Erēmīta (Anthologies). “Never go to bed angry” is an oft-repeated relationship rule, but few people bring up the necessary codicil, “You better be ready to process your feelings until the break of dawn.” The titular protagonists of “Malcolm & Marie,” played respectively by John David Washington and Zendaya, are more than prepared to take their current argument into the wee hours.
And while the script by writer-director Sam Levinson gives out before the dawn, the actors never do.
This black-and-white drama opens with the lead couple returning to their Malibu rental house following the premiere of writer-director Malcolm’s debut film. He’s ebullient; Marie isn’t saying much, but she’s got the facial expression of someone who’s very definitely Not Talking About Something. Malcolm finally notices and insists that she share what’s bothering her, and off they go.

Today, Netflix released a first Trailer for Malcolm & Marie, another movie they hope will be an Academy Award contender for them. Starring Zendaya and John Davis Washington, this film from Sam Levinson is going to be one of the final potential awards season X factors. Will it be an acting contender? However, we at least now have a Trailer to look at, and it’s one that suggests that the quality from Levinson and company is certainly there. Read on for more, and of course, you can see the Trailer for Malcolm & Marie at the end of the post. The film is a small scale drama. The box office may have taken an astonishing $30 billion hit during 2020, but the industry is slowly working its way to a sustained recovery, although Coronavirus cases continuing to accelerate and increase around the world is not a particularly encouraging sign. Every major production now has to implement rigorous health and safety protocols just to be able to call action, but Euphoria creator Sam Levinson managed to shoot an entire movie when restrictions were at their tightest.
Levinson wrote the script in just six days in a bout of feverish creativity, and roped in two of Hollywood’s fastest-rising talents to star as the title characters in Malcolm & Marie. Zendaya plays the girlfriend of John David Washington’s filmmaker following the premiere of his latest work, but their evening takes a turn for the worst when revelations bubble to the surface and cast their relationship in an entirely new light.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures this week began showing to taste makers News of the World, the Paul Greengrass-directed 1870s-set adaptation of Paulette Jiles’ novel about broken-down war veteran Captain Jefferson Kyle Kidd — Tom Hanks — who crosses Texas towns and reads breathtaking newspaper stories to lift the spirits of local townsfolk. He stumbles across a 10-year-old (Helena Zengel), orphaned after the killings of the Kiowa tribe members who took her in after they killed her family years earlier. The vet reluctantly agrees to escort the traumatized child to the only living relatives in Texas willing to take her in. They brave harrowing danger along the way and a bond grows.

Nicole Kidman starred in hit movies like “Moulin Rouge!” “The Others” and “The Hours” — but there was one role that got away from the Oscar winner.
“I really wanted the role that Julia Roberts played in ‘Notting Hill,'” Kidman said during a Zoom interview with Hugh Grant for Marie Claire published on Tuesday.
“But I wasn’t well known enough, and I wasn’t talented enough,” she added, also admitting to Grant that she was going to do a small part in “Love, Actually,” in which he played the British prime minister.
