A few screws loose, mind the pun.
videorama-759-85939125 February 2023
Pretty much the start of this sequel is same at the start of it's predecessor, plus a few other familarities, even plot. This non awesome foursome are practically pigs, two hunk sorts, plus the geek, and the fatty- CLICHE'D! Right. But too, it's very funny, much funnier than no one, and hot, but also entertaining as.... well you know. One of the things I think I like most, about this typical, did I say cliched, fun T and A comedy, and there's quite a few saucy honeys, not just schoolgirls, and we see them wholily and appreciatively. You never wanna see French in another light again, oh yeh, and she's SMOKIN HOT! You do have to admire it for it's audacity, and this is what this T and A flick is. But too, yes, but, this movie has an awesome title opening soundtrack. But again, a comedy with no substance, but all the guilty pleasures, ala 80's. The girls have brains for peanuts, loving the non awesome foursome's acts of vulgarity never offended or angry, and we too have a sort of Porky's Ms Ballbreaker head mistress, to keep the girls in line.

Warning: Spoilers
The protagonists of this movie are Brad Lovett (Bryan Genesse), Marvin Eatmore (Jason Warren), Steve Hardman (Lance Van Der Kolk) and Hugh G. Rection (Alan Deveau) have been sent to Cockswell Academy with the hope that Principal Arsenault (Mike MacDonald) can calm them down.

They're also misogynistic jerks who have a point score for each woman they sleep with. The ultimate girl for them is Mona Lott (Cynthia Belliveau, Blue Monkey) and they all keep failing. And there's pretty much the movie.

Also called Loose Screws, this movie was directed by Rafal Zielinski (Hangman's Curse, Spellcaster and the other Screwballs movies) and written by Michael Cory. Beyond stealing from itself - Screwballs is a ripoff of Porky's so it's like when you keep Xeroxing the same Xerox - it has the absolute, well, balls to have a strip club called The Pig Pen that looks just like, you guessed it, Porky's.

Very very 80s movie
ape-081365 December 2021
Has all the 80s sexual comedy tropes Names nudity music. It's super funny to go back and watch these type movies thru 2021 lens. They could never really make these type today and get away with it.

Funny as hell
mindflare4 April 2004
After watching this movie more than 6 or 7 times, it remains a hilarious experience.

Granted, not everyone will share my enthusiasm for the adventures of Marvin Eatmore, Steve Hardman, Hugh G. Rection, and Brad Lovett, but if you are willing to set your brain on neutral for an hour and a half, you WILL be entertained.

Basically the four guys, after failing grade 12 four times, are sent to Coxwell Academy for the summer as a last chance to get their high school diplomas. Their teenage libidos raging, the four quickly start a game to see who can score with the most girls that summer. It is best summarized by Brad, who offers, "10 points for every girl you score with, 5 for an almost, and 2 for a look-see." in their own creative ways, the four embark on a sexual journey full of mishaps and hilarity.

As an interesting side note, Canadian comedian Mike Macdonald fills the role of Principal Arsenault, out to ensure the boys' summer is a living hell.

Vying for the affection of both the principal and the guys is the French Teacher, Mona Lott (yes, that is her real name). Again, more hilarity ensues.

This movie is absolutely ridiculous, but outrageously funny. Granted, many of the jokes are rehashed from the original "Screwballs", "Loose Screws" offers its own unique take on a strip club journey, beach party, sneaking a boy into the girls' dorm, and a thrilling 'climax' at the end. Come on, how can a guy pretending to be a girl who is forced to have a bath, only to find a single tub left that he must share with an innocent co-ed who happens to be blinded by her missing glasses not funny?

On top of all this, the soundtrack is amazing, featuring such classics as The Extras "Circular Impression", "Screw It" and "Loose Screws."

Rent Loose Screws if you and some friends want to laugh harder than you have in a long time.

Enjoy!

Sequel mania
kosmasp3 June 2013
It's pretty silly and it's the sequel to "Screwballs". A movie that is considered a classic by some. But while you can argue about the quality of the first movie (especially if you had watched it back in the day and like to reminisce about the good old days), it's almost impossible to find anything good in this one. It tries to up the ante, in the sex comedy department, but does not achieve it.

It even tries to copy some scenes (the first doctor related at the beginning), again upping the ante. But it doesn't achieve much. You have to have really low expectations to like this or have watched it back in the day too. Maybe though you can see through the mist of remembering that it is not funny at all. The main song also reminds me of "Footloose" a lot. I wonder if there was a controversy when the movie came out ... doesn't matter though.

Unfunny, juvenile rubbish
cobra-cai21 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Wow, I hated this movie. Attractive women, check. Entertaining? Barely. I thought it was moronic, sexist, and overall not funny. I thought the writers and producer(s) really needed to grow up. Lustful teen guy dressed in drag so he can get into the girls' dorm and ogle the innocent, ditzy, big-breasted chicks is disgusting. Character names like Mona Lott, Steve Hardman, Something Poulet (Pull it...) Hugh Rection...Come on. And racist. Scene in a massage parlor with dorky Asian music and a stupid stereotyped Oriental accent. Yes, this movie was made in the 80s but it still ticked me off. You might enjoy this if you're a immature jerk who's short on brain cells living in your folks' basement. I wish I could get about one hour and one half of my life back. Eye roll.

You Cannot Imagine How Bad This Movie Is...
arfdawg-13 May 2023
Wow. This film is one giant double entendre.

It's a sequel to Screwballs and even has a Brian Murray look-a-like in the beginning. Pathetic.

The rest of the film is one double entendre joke after the next. Names of people, names of places, universities, schools. You name it. It's a double entndre.

Even the dialog is a series of double entendres. One after another, and another, and another. It goes on endlessly. It doesnt stop.

It's as if a literally 12 year old child wrote this script. What adult would find any of this funny?

You cant. It's horrible. Dumber than dumb times three. That I can tell you.

Less than funny rehash of the original
Floated212 August 2023
The original Screwballs seemed to be beloved, however found it to be not great and quite overrated. Now this follow up two years later (since the original was apparently a success, a sequel would occur) was lesser in several ways.

The humor is just as bad and the over the top gimmicks don't exactly hit. One better aspect somewhat is that there are four main characters opposed to five. There were more focus on each individual which gave for a better story arc. The women were just as good, if not better. Lead by young French teacher Mona Lott- whom was the primary focus of the guy's attention.

This film follows similar gags seen in the original such as one of the characters dressing up as a woman to sneak into the women's area. A similar school swimming scene. Also the ending is very similar and predictable- the ultimate payoff occurs again and everyone seemed pleased.

Perhaps not as good or memorable as the original, though neither are great and essentially just films to watch not to deep think but to see skin. This is a slight downgrade.

A Dull Sequel
Uriah434 June 2021
This film essentially follows in the footsteps of its predecessor with four high school boys getting in trouble with the principal due to sexual misconduct and subsequently being forced to attend summer school in order to graduate. Needless to say, none of them have learned any lessons from their past disciplinary actions and as a result they repeat the same behaviors that got them in trouble before. This time, however, their main focus is on the new French teacher by the name of "Miss Mona Lott" (Cynthia Belliveau) trying every trick they know to score with her. What they don't count on is the fact that "Principal Arsenault" (Mike MacDonald) has the same overall mindset as they do and seems to always appear at the worst possible time. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this was a rather dull comedy which featured poor acting, juvenile humor, awful music and a paper-thin plot. To be sure, there were a couple of attractive actresses featured in this film--with Cynthia Belliveau probably standing out the most-but even so their presence wasn't enough to make much of a difference overall.

Everyone likes Screwballs better but...
CoolJay2831 December 2002
Hey, this was one of a line of random movies we rent at parties. We didn't even know that it was the sequel to some other movie, maybe that's a good thing from what I've read. But all I know is that we laughed our heads off the whole movie and has been the best random movie that we rented so far. Now we'll have to go back and try to find that other movie before it.

"Loose Screws" rules!
telepopcanada6 October 2005
"Loose Screws" is a radical party movie with an awesome, quasi-new wave & "fake rock" soundtrack. The lead actors are older, sleazy guys playing sex-crazed teenagers. When it comes to the females in this film, obviously "loose" is the operative word. This film delivers non-stop idiocy and perversion in a way that "Preppies" and other teen sex comedies of the day fail to live up to. There is no attempt to be sentimental or involve the characters in an annoying action sub-plot.

One of the best moments of the film occurs during the climax scene at the graduation assembly. The 4 main guys kind-of magically become a new wave-ish rock band and turn the entire ceremony into a party. Disregard other reviews that peg this film as garbage; those people JUST DON'T GET IT! This film delivers non-stop idiocy in a way that "Preppies" and many other teen sex comedies of the day fail to live up to. "Loose Screws" is truly unhinged!

FYI: The Summer school exteriors were filmed at St. Andrews College in Auroura, Ontario. Pay special attention to the scenes shot on a chilly, dismal Toronto "beach". There is also a great second-story-window-fall which looks really quite painful (couldn't afford a stunt man?). The soundtrack was never released, but one of the musical highlights is available on used vinyl: "Circular Impressions" by The Extras.

Loose Screws
Scarecrow-887 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Four twenty-year olds who have been stuck in the twelfth grade for four years because of all the babes they continue to score with are sent by their fed-up principal to a "special school" in the summer to supposedly teach a lesson, but these leopards don't change their spots.

LOOSE SCREWS is basically another in a long line of PORKY'S wannabes with more (less than subdued)sexual innuendo within the jokes, names of characters, and even the schools than you can shake a stick at. Lines of dialogue featured between characters contain—particularly between guys and girls (who seem to be just as naughty and sexually liberated as their horny male counterparts)—constant references to and proposals for sex.

The film is a tool of titillation and features non-stop boobage. It seems the casting director must've been very convincing in orchestrating a long line of willing girls with no inhibitions whatsoever, because so many wind up removing their shirts: seriously, the female form is an important character in movies like LOOSE SCREWS. Either you like movies like this or you find them reprehensible, because immoral behavior and open attitudes about shagging at any given moment are the main dish on the menu of LOOSE SCREWS.

The plot finds time for the four buddies (with sex ALWAYS on their minds) to compete to see who can bed the new French teacher, keeping a scoring system regarding who can score with the most chicks, with even a beach dance number for good measure. Here's the names for the four main characters: Brad LOVEtt(Bryan Genesse, who dresses in drag so he can spend the night in the female dorm(!), including a bathtub scene with a girl he soon becomes involved with), Steve HARDman(Lance Van Der Kolk, the typical blond hunk who almost gets caught in bed with his new school's principal's wife!), HUgh G. RECTION( Alan Deveau), and Marvin EATMORE (Jason Warren, the heavy character whose appetite and large size were fodder for fat jokes especially in the 80s). When you have female characters named Tracey GRATEHEAD (great head) and MONA LOTT (moan a lot) or even Hilda Von Blow(the typical scary German woman who favors a Butch female Nazi), then you ought to know the kind of sleazy comedy you are in for.

There is positively nothing here anything less than gratuitous. There's a visit from the four goofballs to a strip club featuring the usual wet T-shirt contest, not to mention, the "revenge on the principal" lifted right out of PORKY'S (also, the bar the four guys visit is called THE PIGPIN, sheesh) at the end when the gang get even with the disciplinarian who expels them (rightfully so) for their continual antics in his school. The principal, Mr. Arenault (Mike MacDonald), is one of those types who wears a scowl on his face and punishes the gang for their "errors in distaste" (such as writing on the chalkboard 1000 times about not bothering the French teacher, or cleaning the school floors with a tooth brush) so you know he will be victimized at the very end for such deeds. Deborah Lobban is the French teacher the boys try to get jiggy with—the "hot teacher" angle played to the hilt as only the 80s could do it.

I think many films lift the sex from PORKY'S without seeing the other ingredients which made the movie such a success: there's heart and strong characterizations in that movie, including the awesome authenticity of the period depicted, which seem left out of all the imitators.

Certainly Loose a Few Screws

Loose Screws (1985)

* 1/2 (out of 4)

Sequel to SCREWBALLS finds four perverted guys getting sent to a school with plenty of women where they decide to play a rating game. For every girl they score with they get ten points but the main prize is a French teacher with big breasts. I'm still a little confused as why they'd punish perverts by sending them to a school with nothing but women. Anyways, this 80's teen-sex comedy is pretty bad no matter how you look at it. It's clear that the original movie made some money so this thing was rushed into production without much of a screenplay. Instead of any type of story we're just graced with scenes where one of the four men will be making out with a number of women who find them desirable. None of these scenes are all that erotic and it's rare for me to say this but even the nudity gets boring after a while. There's also very few laughs to be found here as the "stunts" and "games" played by the guys are all rather lame. The film tries hard to recapture the spirit of the first movie but it pretty much fails on all levels. Even the ending tries to copy the one in the original but it just doesn't work. The performances are certainly below average but I'll overlook this since we really don't come to these movies to see Oscar-winning performances. The characters aren't all that likable and it's really hard to care about anything going on. LOOSE SCREWS is a pretty poor movie that was made just to try and get some extra bucks off the first film's success.

Best tit and bum of the 80s
dubjohnston3 January 2022
Best tit and bum of the 80s. Massively sexist with stereotyping around every corner. The type of movie you'd have feminists rioting against these days. Just the names crack me up - miss von blow, principal arsenal, Hung Lo and his long lost brother Well Hung Lo, Steve Hardman, and who could forget Miss Mona Lot, the seductive French teacher. We had this movie on tape (with the stupid beach dance scene edited out) growing up. My twin brother and our mates watched it hundreds of times over the years. Get home pissed - put on 'loose screws'! Bored? 'Loose screws!. I still know +70% of the script despite not watching it full length for a few years. So many great corny lines. And the song where Marvin goes to the gym should be remixed into house.

the sequel to SCREWBALLS, not as fun as the original
silentgpaleo1 May 2000
LOOSE SCREWS reminds me of other lame sequels to sex romps. HOLLYWOOD HOTTUBS 2, BIKINI CAR WASH 3, EMMANUEL 34...the list goes on and on. And this film is no exception.

I liked the original film, SCREWBALLS. It was a silly comedy about five teen boys trying to get laid, and the many loose women and wacky adventures that the high schoolers encounter. It was a take on PORKY'S, but a much funnier one. There is genuine joy in SCREWBALLS, which is sorely lacking in LOOSE SCREWS.

Once again, we have characters trying to have sex, but the results are less funny this time. There's the fat guy, the nerdy guy, the womanizer: all of the cliches of the genre we have now come to expect. But, the cast is different, and the women are not the same ones from the original. While SCREWBALLS bordered on soft-core (granted very fun soft-core), LOOSE SCREWS is neutered. Nothing worse than a sex romp without sex.

Still, there are a few moments that made me laugh in this film, and maybe if you're feeling less discriminating one night, it's possible to enjoy the movie. Yet, after seeing SCREWBALLS, this film is a very pale second.
