There’s a plethora of free streaming sites and apps out there, but which ones are offer the widest selection? And most legit? We’ve rounded up the best streaming sites for anyone who wants to watch their favorite movies without having to pay for a subscription.
The trade-off: Sitting through commercials. Free-ad-supported TV (Fast) can be a mixed experience, depending on the platform: Ads might cut in at odd moments or the same ad might might run three times in a row, but hey, it’s free, right?
As the major streamers add their own ad-supported sites, such as Amazon’s Freevee, the options for free streaming should continue to grow. (Movie availability on each platform are subject to change.)

Jenny Lewis’s fifth studio album, Joy’All, is an endearing snapshot of the singer-songwriter’s casual, openhearted Cali-bohemian ethos, with easy, blithe hooks to match. Lewis tapped seemingly ubiquitous Nashville producer Dave Cobb to helm the album, but despite some sweet pedal steel here and there, she hasn’t gone country—or, for that matter, yacht rock, a term some inexplicably use to describe lead single “Puppy and a Truck” when it first dropped in 2021.
Lewis’s influences remain eclectic enough, from ’70s folk-rock on “Apples and Oranges” to sultry R&b on “Giddy Up.” Cobb never lets these songs stray too far from his usual easygoing, acoustic-based zone, somewhat blunting the album’s range. But Lewis still manages to push herself into new territory, committing to sunny melodicism with an unapologetic zeal that suggests her unlikely stint opening for Harry Styles in 2021 may have influenced her as much as working with Cobb.

William Zabka was known as the signature bully of the '80s due to his roles in such films as The Karate Kid and Just One of the Guys and the actor is revealing that, due to this, his Comic-Con experiences later in life took on a more negative tone from fans. During the 80s and 90s, Toni Hudon was well-known for her work as an actress. She appeared in several movies and TV shows including the 1985 movie, Just One of the Guys. At one point, it seemed like she was next in line to become one of Hollywood’s brightest stars, but things never ended up panning out that way. In 2002, Toni decided to take a break from acting. However, she never made it entirely clear why she decided to leave her career behind. Since then, she has all but disappeared. Lots of people wondered what ever became of her

There are plenty of movies out there that couldn’t be made today without ripping up the premise and starting over again thanks to a lot of stereotypes that might be construed as overly offensive. Unfortunately Just One of the Guys is one of those movies and it’s too bad really since it was a hilarious movie for its time and still has its charms today. The story is pretty simple and yet how it was taken by gay and transgender individuals was seen as inspiring by a few people. There is a good reason for that since the main character

Jenny Lewis stopped by NPR for a Tiny Desk Concert, and the Rabbit Fur Coat singer-songwriter had a few tricks up her sleeve. For her rendition of “Rabbit Hole,” from her latest album On the Line, Lewis got the entire NPR staff audience to sing along to the track’s uber-catchy chorus right to the very end.
“That song’s kind of a mantra,” Lewis said afterward while tuning her guitar. “We all know what that’s like.”

Adam, named for the first “man,” is a virgin. Awkward, shy, and socially ostracized in his small town, the 17-year-old strikes gold when he’s invited to spend the summer living with his queer older sister in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Finding himself the outsider in an eclectic group of people who run the gamut of the Lgbtq+ alphabet, Adam unwittingly stumbles into a misguided deception when a pretty girl assumes he is trans — and he doesn’t correct her.
Just your typical coming of age story, right?
That’s the premise of “Adam,” the feature filmmaking debut of Rhys Ernst, a queer transgender man whose credits include producing “Transparent” and creating the docu-series “We’ve Been Around.” Backed by powerhouse indie producers James Schamus (“Brokeback Mountain”) and Howard Gertler (“How to Survive a Plague”), the movie premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to warm reviews and is set...

If you were around in the 1980s, then you might just remember the 1985 teen comedy film ‘Just One of the Guys’. This film was loosely based on ‘Twelfth Night’ by William Shakespeare and adapted into s screenplay by Dennis Felchman and Jeff Franklin. It was directed by Lisa Gottlieb and starred Joyce Hyser, Clayton Rohner, Billy Jacoby, Toni Hudson, and William Zabka. The film is about an attractive female girl who wants to become a journalist. She thinks that her teachers do not take her seriously and that this is either because of her looks or because she is

When you cut through all of the spandex and special effects, superhero movies are really just high school movies with bigger muscles, bigger budgets, and bigger constraints. Indeed, the best moments in the giddy, fitfully entertaining “Spider-Man: Homecoming” are the ones that gleefully conflate the likes of Stan Lee and John Hughes, delighting in the extent to which both of their signature genres tend to revolve around emotionally unsure young people who are struggling to juggle their double lives.

A review of tonight's Pitch coming up just as soon as I'm disappointed the episode didn't do a full-on Just One of the Guys homage at some point... Second episodes are hard. They're made under the assumption that not everyone watching will have seen the pilot, and that even those who did might need some reinforcement on the character relationships and themes. So there's a tendency for them to feel like a repetition of what happened the week before, only less effective because it's being done twice, and without the time and budget that can go into a pilot. But "The Interim" was ultimately a more satisfying episode than the pilot, which I already liked a lot. No, the scope wasn't quite as big (what little game action we see is presented as a TV highlight after the fact), but there was no Ghost Dad(*), or any other kind of...

I really like Better Things, FX's new comedy starring and produced by Pamela Adlon, who was Louis C.K.'s frequent on- and off-screen collaborator on Louie. (Here's my review from yesterday.) The show is deeply autobiographical, with Adlon playing a thinly-disguised version of herself: a single mom to three daughters, and a former child actress still plugging away in show business (finding more success in voiceover work than on camera) decades later. At press tour, I sat down with Adlon to talk about how (when she was still going by Pamela Segall) she got started in the business, her early '80s androgynous period — highlighted by Willy/Milly, where she played an adolescent girl who wished to be a boy, and woke up the next morning with a penis — the transition into voice work on shows like King of the Hill, the ways that her new art imitates her old...

Creating a slasher movie in 1986 wasn’t a monumental feat, as the horror genre had seen its fair share of cinematic killers over the years, but it was a culmination of many elements that made April Fool’s Day one of the best of its era. With a focused and experienced director at the helm, a clever script filled with laughs and unexpected thrills, and an affable ensemble of actors who were infectiously likeable and endlessly talented, April Fool’s Day is an underappreciated gem and is truly unlike any other genre film of its, or any, time.
Written by Danilo Bach and directed by Fred Walton, April Fool’s Day follows a group of college students—Kit (Amy Steel), Rob (Ken Olandt), Nikki (Deborah Goodrich), Chaz (Clayton Rohner), Arch (Tom Wilson), Harvey (Jay Baker), Skip (Griffin O’Neal), and Nan (Leah Pinsent)—who head out to their pal Muffy...

Perhaps one of my favorite all time classics in 80s movie history is Just one of the Guys. It’s the tale of a gorgeous high school girl who wants to be appreciated for more than just her looks and figure. She’s an aspiring journalist who’s convinced her article would have made it big time if she submitted it to her school paper as a male. In order to get her submission approved she poses as male at another school submitting the same news article that she did as a female at her old school. If the paper gets submitted

Scream Factory brings late 80’s horror thriller I, Madman to Blu-ray, one of two notable cult classics from Hungarian/Canadian director Tibor Tabaks. Beginning in Canadian television, Tabaks reached notoriety with his 1987 sophomore feature, The Gate, a bizarre creature feature which terrorized children with its forced perspective monsters and introduced the world to child actor Stephen Dorff. He’d follow that up with this pulpy adaptation of a screenplay by David Chaskin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 2: Freddy’s Revenge). A gothic murder mystery plays out in the eternally uneasy streets of a hazy, 1989 Hollywood in this simple yet strange forgotten oddity.

Songs On Screen: All week HitFix will be featuring tributes by writers to their favorite musical moments from TV and film. Check out all the entries in the series here. When we talk about underrated directors, it's hard not to mention Walter Hill. Hill is an underrated director, the way Michael Ritchie and Peter Yates were underrated directors, the way Roger Donaldson, Joe Dante, and Fred Schepisi are underrated directors. They’re all underrated because it’s only when you look at their filmographies that the numbers start to total up and you realize, boy, he directed a lot of really good movies. In Hill’s case, that list includes "The Warriors," "48 Hours," "The Long Riders," "Southern Comfort,: "Hard Times," "Trespass," and "Wild Bill." Some great. Some solid. (My personal favorite of those is Hard Times, a pulpy film about bare-knuckle boxers in the Great Depression.) There were clunkers...

Our weekly column in which writers defend the indefensible I’ve never read any of the "50 Shades of Grey" books because the internet pre-educated me about the “my inner goddess is doing the merengue with some salsa moves” material. I knew I wouldn’t be able to handle the novels the way I can’t handle the acquaintance in my Facebook feed whose posts are 99% Zumba class reminiscences. When the movie first came out in theaters, the Internet informed me that it was bad for women because it glamorizes an abusive relationship. Anastasia Steele loses herself and her power under the control of billionaire Christian Grey (I would have named him Christian Greye, but that’s me). This may be the case with the books-- I’ll never know because all quotes I’ve seen point to Anastasia’s narration being the literary equivalent of feather hair extensions, and I can’t do it.

Jenny Lewis successfully transitioned from child star of Jell-o commercials and Troop Beverly Hills to indie musician, and she's pretty at ease with her past, telling People in 2014 that she's "thrilled that I was a part of something that has endured the test of time." When Kristen Stewart sat down with Conan on Wednesday, he mentioned her appearance in Jenny Lewis's "Just One of the Guys" music video, and she couldn't help but laugh when he noted that she resembled a certain singer. He showed a clip of the video, which came out last July, and in it, she's seen showing off her dancing skills while rocking a snapback hat and athleticwear. After watching the clip, Conan asked Kristen, "Were you channeling who I think you were channeling for that? It felt like you were doing a Justin Bieber." Although the star didn't confirm who exactly inspired her performance, she did jokingly reply, "In his dreams!" She also shared how starstruck she was when she met Robert Redford at this year's Sundance Film Festival. Watch Kristen's chat with Conan above, and then check out all the different roles she's played over the years.

abstew here. This year marks the 25th anniversary of one of the my favorite movies growing up, Troop Beverly Hills. (I mistakenly thought the woman with curly red hair on the VHS cover was my beloved Bette Midler, but when I realized it wasn't, I loved the movie too much to care and made my parents rent it at least once a month.) But all those times I watched those Wilderness Girls singing about the virtues of Cookie Time, I never thought that the actress playing Shelley Long's daughter, Hannah Nefler, would grow up to be my absolute favorite singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis. She writes the songs that make me remember that I have feelings. If you opened my chest it would be in the shape of Jenny Lewis.

Jenny Lewis got a little help from her friends promoting her new album The Voyager, which releases on July 29. Kristen Stewart, Brie Larson and Anne Hathaway joined the singer-songwriter in the music video for “Just One of the Guys.” We’re sorely disappointed that Lewis didn’t take this opportunity to pay homage to the endlessly entertaining 1985 Lisa Gottlieb comedy, also called Just One of the Guys. However, we’re treated to Stewart and company in Adidas-clad B-Boy drag — and the Twilight actress even smiles a little bit. The video is all fun and games, but the song itself has a somber tone to it. Lewis has contributed music to indie films Very Good Girls and Song One (which starred Hathaway), so it’s nice to see her continue a...

She started up with in Rilo Kiley at the age 22 with all-guys, toured with the Postal Service, written and recorded music with her boyfriend Johnathan Rice as Jenny & Johnny, works in an indie rock industry that is male-dominated. In her earliest career, she was a child actress, and now she writes scores and soundtracks for film. (Though, don't discount: she also recorded and toured with ladies The Watson Twins, who helped launch her as a solo act, a wonderful ensemble.) In a lot of industries, being "just one of the guys" holds serious social capitol as a woman.

Trying out a whole new look, Kristen Stewart donned a fake mustache and a 1980s tracksuit in the new “Just One of the Guys” music video from Jenny Lewis.
Joined by Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson, the “Twilight” babe also rocks out on a Fender Stratocaster in the band sequences, something that would make ex-boyfriend Robert Pattinson quite proud.
Lewis’ song is a slow drag to lament the dreaded ticking biological clocks of women everywhere, especially those who want to have kids.
Adding to the visual greatness, Ms. Hathaway’s character even has a rat tail hairdo, making for a masterful creeper vibe.

Jenny Lewis enlisted some of famous friends -- Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson -- to be in her band and dress as dudes for her song "Just One of the Guys."In the music video, Lewis rocks a rainbow-and-unicorn-inspired suit, while the movie stars transform into obnoxious guys wearing terrible tracksuits, wigs and facial hair.K-Stew seems to be channeling everyone's creepy neighbor, Hathaway has a rat tail and Larson looks shockingly great in a blonde mustache.Check out the video above to see these ladies in action!"Just One of the Guys" is the new single off of Lewis' first solo album in six years, "The Voyager," which drops July 29.While she's focusing on her music career now, Jenny also has quite an acting resume! The 38-year-old star appeared in over a dozen movies as a child star, including films like "Troop Beverly Hills" and "The Wizard.

Ever wondered what Kristen Stewart and Anne Hathaway would look like in drag? Us either. Regardless, the two actresses (plus peer Brie Larson) dressed up like dudes for pal Jenny Lewis' "Just One of the Guys" music video. The song serves as the first track from The Voyager, the indie singer-songwriter's first solo album in six years. Lewis calls the compilation "the hardest one" she's ever made. What was it like shooting the music video? "We screamed with laughter all day, huddled behind the monitor," Lewis tells GQ. "I haven't laughed that hard since What About Bob? came out on laser disk." The actress' transformations are purposefully...

Jenny Lewis’ music video for “Just One of the Guys” features actresses Kristen Stewart, Anne Hathaway and Brie Larson dressed up in drag.
Jenny Lewis Music Video
“Just One of the Guys,” a track off Jenny Lewis's forthcoming solo album The Voyager – her first in six years – explores the pressure placed on women to have babies in their prime child-bearing years. While the song itself conveys the melancholy of the ticking biological clock, the music video uses humor to show Lewis’ frustration with the disparate expectations placed on men and women.
Stewart, Hathaway and Larson are introduced in the music video looking more or less like their normal selves in white suits with a feminine silouette as Lewis’s band. Before long, however, the women do away with their feminine hairstyles and makeup and ditch the suits – changing into track jumpsuits, hats and mustaches.

You may know Jenny Lewis from a few places. She had a nearly 20-year career in Hollywood, with roles in cult classics Troop Beverly Hills and The Wizard before abruptly pivoting into music with adored indie band Rilo Kiley. Lewis has also turned in critically acclaimed collaborations with the Watson Twins and her partner Jonathan Rice as part of Jenny & Johnny. She's releasing her third solo album, The Voyager, on July 29, and is touring extensively in support of it. We talked to Lewis on the heels of her performance at New York City's Governor's Ball about touring, the new record,...

"No matter how hard I try, to be just one of the guys/There's a little something inside that won't let me," sings Jenny Lewis on "Just One of the Guys," the first single off her upcoming album, The Voyager. The title is funny if only because of the fact that the song is produced by Beck. (Is that him in the background?) And while the rest of the album promises production and songwriting from the likes of Ryan Adams and Jonathan Rice, we'll let the downer parts of the song fade into its wonderfully breezy-sounding backdrop. Summertime shouldn't feel this introspective. The Voyager is out on July 29.

Few actors have portrayed a bully quite as convincingly as William Zabka, a.k.a. Billy Zabka. Starting with 1984’s The Karate Kid, in which he played Johnny Lawrence, a headband-wearing rich kid making life a living hell for Ralph Macchio’s pipsqueak underdog, Zabka became Hollywood’s go-to preppy goon, also stealing scenes via pitch-perfect bitchface performances in 1985’s Just One of the Guys and 1986’s Back to School. More recently, the 48-year-old actor has endeared himself to a new generation through small parts in the 2010 comedy Hot Tub Time Machine and the long-running TV shows How I Met Your Mother and USA Network’s Psych. With the Himym finale looming, Vulture spoke to Zabka about the burgeoning Zabka renaissance (that he and his Twitter fans are calling the #Zabkatage), his 2004 Oscar nomination, and, of course, the Cobra Kai.How did your role on How I Met Your Mother come about?...

Teenagers are renowned for their unabashed sensitivity, fluctuating moods and generally being "difficult". So it's not that surprising that some of the wildest and most intense scenes in school-set films always occur in the cafeteria. What better location for a grandiose announcement, a rage-fuelled confrontation, or a good old dance-off and sing-song? Here are my top five school cafeteria moments, in no particular order:

Hell's horses, that was a fun one, eh? Extreme spanking, torture, amputation, and the most alarming birth since American Horror Story made this week's Game of Thrones the leg-crosser of the season. Let's dig in!
The episode is of course preceded by my favorite letters in the Western alphabet: AC, Al, Gv, and N. Together, they spell H-a-p-p-y L-o-r-d-s D-a-y Y-a-l-l!
The opening credits let us know that we're going to be introduced to yet another new land - this one looks to be waaaaay out there. Like, Staten Island out there. It's called Qarth, which sounds like a home accounting software with a speech impediment.
Stark, raving mad (Richard Madden)

Well hello, my Wildlings! Yes, our Crown Prince has heard your pleas and we will, indeed, be recapping the second season of HBO's dragontastic Hair Opera Game of Thrones. You may know me from my liveblogs of As the World Turns or recaps of American Horror Story, the combination of which makes me uncannily well-suited for covering such a complex, melodramatic, and patently batsh*t series. And I am well-versed in the ins and outs (and ins and outs) of the series, so never fear - I will have no trouble keeping my Bannisters straight from my Targomuffins.
We didn't recap the first episode, but I can sum it up in one animated Gif:
"You Get A King! And You Get A King! And You Get A King!"

Some were huge in their day, with hit records, popular movies and roles on top TV shows. But we haven’t seen them much lately — or for years. Here’s what they’ve been up to recently.
Sam Jones
The onetime Playgirl centerfold and star of Flash Gordon (1980) went on to star in 1986’s My Chauffer and the 1987-88 TV series The Highwayman. While starring roles were hard to come by, Jones occasionally appeared in minor TV and movie roles up until 2007. He is reportedly now the CEO of a security company providing protection for high-profile clients all over the world.
Charo
For those too young to know of her, think Shakira’s dance moves and Sofia Vergara’s sexy comic timing — in one person. Known for her trademark “Cuchi-Cuchi” and her frequent Love Boat and Tonight Show appearances in the ’70s and ’80s, Charo, whose full name is Maria...

A coming-of-age story about gender identity set in those awkward prepubescent years, Tomboy is a well-intentioned, but slight and forgettable French drama. It’s the story of 10-year-old Laure (Zoe Heran), the new kid in a small town, who with her scrawny physique and cropped hair, passes as a boy among her new peers. At first life is good for Laure, who now goes by “Mikael”. She fits in, excelling at soccer, fighting, and spitting. Her younger sister goes along with the charade, excited about having a tough and protective older “brother”. Suspicions soon arise amongst her new friends and Laure must face the consequences of her deception.
Tomboy does not have much interesting to say about sexuality, or even about adolescence. It won the Teddy Award for the Best Gay or Lesbian film at the Berlin Film Festival yet it’s not at all about budding lesbianism. It’s...

Say this for Albert Nobbs: It’s not some run-of-the-mill “life lived in service” drama. Between Downton Abbey and the revival of Upstairs Downstairs, the market has been pretty well cornered on stories of men and women who spend their lives feeding and dressing the rich. But the title character of Albert Nobbs—a waiter in an upscale Irish hotel in the late 19th century—is actually a woman passing as a man. So there’s a twist: The Remains Of The Day by way of Just One Of The Guys. Glenn Close stars in Albert Nobbs, and also co-wrote ...

This is a fantastic Oscar-bait of a film! The Academy loves crossdressers, "Tootsie," "Yentl," "Victor Victoria," "The Crying Game," okay maybe not "Just One of the Guys" but still. "Albert Nobbs" is getting major Oscar buzz and it's largely because of Glenn Close's performance. We definitely love her, maybe we'll love her more as a woman who poses as a man and then tries to escape all the lies! Drama!
