How to Watch the ‘Star Wars’ Movies in Order
Image
Spanning 11 live-action feature films and six live-action TV shows (and counting), the “Star Wars” universe is ever-expanding. And starting with the very first installment, filmmaker George Lucas made clear to audiences that he was telling a saga out of order. The title “Episode IV: A New Hope” underlined there was both a past and a future beyond the 1977 film, and indeed this saga has moved forward and backward in time throughout its history, telling a number of different kinds of stories in a galaxy far, far away.

To that end, whether you’re new to the franchise or hold it dear as a favorite film series, you may be looking for a way to watch all the “Star Wars” movies in order. From young Anakin Skywalker to Rey Palpatine, we’ve got the full story in order below.

But not just that – we also weave in how to watch the “Star Wars” shows in order,...

Genndy Tartakovsky’s ‘Clone Wars’ Is Still the Best ‘Star Wars’ Movie Tie-In
Image
“Star Wars” thrives in animation. Even if the earliest animated efforts like the Boba Fett short in the “Holiday Special” or the “Ewoks” cartoon weren’t exactly good, the past 20 years has seen the franchise produce some astonishing animated visuals and storytelling on TV. Whether it’s the cultural and visual variety of the “Star Wars Visions” shorts that reimagine what’s possible in the galaxy far, far away, or “Star Wars Rebels” delivering a mature and thematically complex story, animation is a medium perfectly suited for the endless imagination and creativity of “Star Wars.” And yet, no show has quite exploited that potential quite like Genndy Tartakovsky’s “Clone Wars.”

The show was developed and directed by Tartakovsky as a way of filling in the gap between Episodes II and III, showing the events of the eponymous Clone Wars and how it forever changed the Republic and the breakaway Separatists.

Batman: The Animated Series remains a modern animated classic, arguably one of the best in the genre. Writer-producer Paul Dini helped develop the series and also served as one of its writers. However, Dini originally got a start in his career working with Star Wars legend George Lucas.

Coralie Fargeat has never been one to play by the rules.

The writer, director, and producer behind “The Substance,” the bold, visceral body horror film that took Cannes by storm and was nominated for five Academy Awards, has carved a path in cinema entirely on her own terms.

From making “Star Wars”-inspired short films as a child to battling industry skepticism over her latest film’s excessive gore and social critique, Fargeat has remained unwavering in her vision. With “The Substance” garnering critical acclaim, including a nom for best actress Demi Moore’s powerhouse performance, Fargeat is now at the center of the Hollywood conversation.

On this episode of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast, Fargeat discusses her film’s journey, Universal Pictures’ hesitation, her admiration for Moore, and her deep connection to filmmaking.

This Week in Star Wars Comics: January held everything back for this week
Image
After three weeks of releasing one, maybe two titles, January goes out with a massive drop of eight comic books to wrap up the month. There's so much to get to, so let's dive right into it!

This Week in Star Wars Comics we have A New Legacy, The High Republic Adventures Annual, Ewoks, and more!

A New Legacy #1

Let's start with the big title this week: A New Legacy #1. This is a one-shot celebrating a decade of storytelling since Marvel launched their first comic book under the Disney era. This mega issue has three stories featuring fan-favorite characters like Doctor Aphra, Darth Momin, Scar Squadron, and more. The team is a group of all star writers and artists from the last ten years. They are Charles Soule, Jason Aaron, and Kieron Gillen penning the story with Salva Espín, Leonard Kirk, and Ramon Rosanas illustrating. Steve McNiven is the cover...

Every Star Wars TV Show Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
With the modern explosion of content on Disney+, it's easy to forget that there have been Star Wars TV shows since 1985. George Lucas always knew he was building something far bigger than a film franchise. The first Star Wars tie-in novel, Alan Dean Foster's Splinter of the Mind's Eye, was published in 1978 - before the release of The Empire Strikes Back. When Lucas wrapped up the original trilogy with 1983's Return of the Jedi, his attention initially turned to the small screen, where he continued to license stories set in a galaxy far, far away.

Disney has evolved Star Wars into a trailblazing transmedia franchise; the films have essentially been on hiatus since the end of the sequel trilogy, but the saga continues in high-profile Disney+ TV shows. These have had an unprecedented cultural impact, ensuring Star Wars remains a vital part of popular culture. But how do all...

10 Star Wars Characters Whose Stories Are Radically Different In Canon And Legends
Image
The Star Wars franchise has two major continuities, canon and Legends, leading to notable differences between characters existing in both. From 1976 to 2014, stories told outside the Star Wars movies collectively made up the Star Wars Expanded Universe, now known as Legends. The EU was rebranded and declared non-canon when Disney and Lucasfilm created a new official canon, giving filmmakers more creative freedom.

The only stories that carried over into the new canon were the Star Wars original trilogy, the Star Wars prequel trilogy, and the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series and film. Having the same basic foundation meant many of the same characters could appear in both timelines, but in some cases, new writers have chosen to alter a character's history significantly. This offers a fascinating chance to compare how different storytellers approached the same character.

Star Wars Teases a New Kind of Ewok As a Hidden 'Water' Tribe Makes an Unexpected Debut
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Star Wars: Ewoks #3Ewoks are Star Wars' well-known forest dwellers, but a new comic taking place after Return of the Jedi reveals that there were also Ewoks who preferred life above the water instead of among the trees. This different home preference could allude to a different breed of Ewok living on Endor, possibly one more adapted to a semi-aquatic lifestyle. However, the village eventually sank, eliminating these new Ewoks from the planet.

In Star Wars: Ewoks #3 by Steve Orlando, Álvaro López, Laura Braga, Antonio Fabela, and Joe Caramagna, a group of Imperials and mercenaries led by General Tern Koyatta are hunting for a weapons depot on the forest moon of Endor. The Imperials have kidnapped the Ewok Wicket W. Warrick from his village to be their guide after they learn that Wicket can speak galactic basic. As they travel, the group comes across what Wicket calls the Endless Lake.

Alien species from animated Ewoks series has just been reintroduced into canon
Image
The latest issue of Marvel's Star Wars: Ewoks comic miniseries reintroduced an obscure alien species from the Star Wars Legends continuity, and fans will be both surprised and intrigued by the canon reintroduction of this obscure alien. Even if you are unfamiliar with the Raichling species, they are now officially a part of the current Star Wars canon, which means they should be featured in more stories as time goes by.

In the third issue of the Ewoks comic series, the Ewok known as Wicket and the group of Imperials and bounty hunters who have taken him hostage encounter a lake on the Forest Moon of Endor, which they need to cross. Wicket explains to the group that they could safely cross the lake with the aid of a Raichling, before the group instead builds a canoe to sail across the water.

In the Legends continuity, Raichlings are a gigantic...

Jude Law Reveals How Much of Han Solo Is in Skeleton Crew's Jad Na Nawood
Image
The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, Episode 3, "Very Interesting, as an Astrogation Problem," now streaming on Disney+.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew's Jad Na Nawood might be a new franchise addition, but he owes quite a bit to a certain scruffy-looking nerf herder.

Following the recent Skeleton Crew episode, Jude Law spoke with Entertainment Weekly about the show's big Nawood reveals and how a childhood obsession with Han Solo inspired his performance. The fan-favorite smuggler, to him, was a cynic who "was kind of laughing at the world, and yet had ultimately this good heart and this ability to be heroic and step in at the right time," a worldview Nawood somewhat shares.

Star Wars Officially Makes The Fastest Alien In The Galaxy Canon Again
Image
The second episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew has given the fastest alien in the galaxy its first live-action appearance in almost 40 years. Following the release of Return of the Jedi, the Star Wars franchise continued to explore the galaxy far, far away with spinoff properties, from the continued issues of Marvel’s Star Wars comics to the animated series Star Wars: Droids: The Adventures of R2-D2 and C-3Po and the live-action Ewoks movies. The Ewoks movies added fascinating lore to the Forest Moon of Endor, revealing new species, cultures, and even the first live-action Nightsister Witch of Dathomir.

The second film – Ewoks: The Battle for Endor – has Wickett the Ewok and the young human girl Cindel Towani fleeing Sanyassan marauders and the Nightsister Charal. The two befriend the human Noah Briqualon and the mischievous creature Teek, who shares the name of his species. The film, like all...

After 41 Years, Star Wars Is Teaching Ewoks How to Speak English, and It’s a Surprisingly Big Deal
Image
The Ewoks just took a huge step toward joining the wider Star Wars, as a new Marvel Comics miniseries has confirmed that the natives of Endor's forest moon are capable of learning and speaking Galactic Basic – the in-universe term for English. Star Wars: Ewoks gives fans a look at the inner workings of the Ewok society, but what few readers expected was for the story to show them speaking Basic.

Dune Director Denis Villeneuve Feels Return Of The Jedi "Derailed" Star Wars: "[It's] A Comedy For Kids"
Image
Dune and Dune: Part Two director Denis Villeneuve has often mentioned that he is (or was) a huge Star Wars fan, and has even suggested that George Lucas' original trilogy was an early influence on his decision to pursue a career as a filmmaker.

Despite his love for the franchise, Villeneuve has now explained why he has no interest in directing a movie set in the galaxy far, far away.

While chatting to The Town Podcast, Villeneuve said directing a Star Wars movie simply isn't "a dream of his" because "Star Wars became crystallized in its own mythology, very dogmatic, it seemed like a recipe, no more surprises."

He also feels that Return of the Jedi derailed the franchise back in 1983.

Denis Villeneuve rules himself out of making a Star Wars movie, disses Return Of The Jedi
Sean Young and Kyle MacLachlan in Dunas (1984)
Dune director Denis Villeneuve loves Star Wars, but not so much that he’d make one of his own. Also, he’s still disappointed by Return of The Jedi.

Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve recently poured his efforts into one epic space fantasy, Dune: Part Two – but don’t expect him to direct a Star Wars movie anytime soon.

The French Canadian director of Sicario, Prisoners and too many other fabulous films to list is an unabashed Star Wars fan, as he made plain in a recent interview on The Town podcast.

“I was the target audience,” Villeneuve said of seeing George Lucas’s original sci-fi fairytale in 1977. “I was 10 years old. It went to my brain like a silver bullet. I became obsessed with Star Wars.”

Three years later, the young Villeneuve rushed to his nearest cinema to see The Empire Strikes Back. Widely regarded as the high point of the whole franchise,...

Denis Villeneuve doesn't want to direct a 'Star Wars' film after the franchise "derailed in 1983'.The 'Dune' filmmaker was "the target audience" for the iconic sci-fi saga when it first launched in 1977 with 'A New Hope', and while he loved 1980's 'The Empire Strikes Back', he felt let down by 'Return of the Jedi' as a conclusion to the trilogy. He told 'The Town' podcast: "I was the target audience. Denis Villeneuve Blames His 'Star Wars' Aversion on Ewoks
Image
Denis Villeneuve, the Hollywood sci-fi visionary behind films like Dune and Blade Runner 2049, might seem like the perfect director to tackle a Star Wars film. The thing is that he just doesn’t want to do it, and while every artist is entitled to their own opinion, especially when it comes to what they decide to make, Villeneuve has finally given a concrete explanation. The reason why Villeneuve is not interested in making a Star Wars film is because of the Ewoks.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Villeneuve’s hot take on Star Wars was documented in an episode of The Town podcast. The director’s opinion aligns with what many Star Wars fans felt upon the release of Richard Marquand’s Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi – it was a step-down from The Empire Strikes Back:

“I was the target audience. I was 10 years old.

Denis Villeneuve feels the Star Wars franchise derailed in 1983
Image
Disney and Lucasfilm have been attached a lot of filmmakers to various Star Wars projects. Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, James Mangold, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, Kevin Feige, Patty Jenkins, Donald Glover, Taika Waititi, Rian Johnson, Shawn Levy – they’re all either currently working on something that’s set in the Star Wars universe, or have worked on projects that aren’t moving forward. But one filmmaker we shouldn’t expect to see stepping into the Star Wars franchise is Denis Villeneuve, director of Blade Runner 2049 and the recent Dune movies. That’s because Villeneuve feels the series derailed way back in 1983, with the release of Return of the Jedi.

During an interview on The Town podcast, Villeneuve said (as reported by The Hollywood Reporter), “I was the target audience (for the original Star Wars film). I was 10 years old. It went to my brain like a silver bullet. I became obsessed with Star Wars.

Denis Villeneuve Explains His ‘Star Wars’ Disinterest: “It All Derailed in 1983”

Denis Villeneuve is detailing why he doesn’t want to direct a Star Wars film.

While on The Town podcast, Villeneuve shared that Star Wars blew it after two films, with 1983’s Return of the Jedi, which most fans consider a bit of a step down from 1977’s A New Hope and 1980’s The Empire Strikes Back.

“I was the target audience. I was 10 years old. It went to my brain like a silver bullet. I became obsessed with Star Wars,” he said. “I mean, The Empire Strikes Back is the movie that I anticipated the most in my life. I saw the movie a billion times onscreen. It All Derailed In 1983: Denis Villeneuve Explains Why He Has No Desire To Make A Star Wars Movie
Image
Celebrated science-fiction filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, mastermind of the Dune movies, has revealed why he'd never write Star Wars; in his view, it's all gone downhill since 1983. Denis Villeneuve is an accomplished French Canadian film director and writer, with so many classic movies to his resume - and that was before his latest Dune movies, some of the best sci-fi movies in decades. He's particularly good at weaving complex lore into a compelling narrative - which naturally leads to many wondering how he'd fare with Star Wars.

Speaking to Matthew Belloni on The Town podcast, Villeneuve revealed he grew up adoring Star Wars - but that, in his view, the franchise took a wrong direction all the way back in 1983.

Star Wars Just Gave Us the Closest We're Going to Get To A New Ewok Jedi

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: Ewoks #2Star Wars just introduced the closest thing we might ever get to a Jedi Ewok in the official canon. In non-canon Legends, an old RPG reference guide introduced a Force-sensitive Ewok who becomes a Jedi Knight, robes, blue lightsaber, and all. However, the closest thing we might ever get to that in the official canon could very well be the newly introduced Red Ghost.

In Star Wars: Ewoks #2 by Steve Orlando, lvaro Lpez, and Laura Braga, the Ewoks tribe of Bright Tree is faced with a group of Imperials and bounty hunters (including 4-lom and Zuckuss) who've returned to Endor in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi, seeking a hidden weapons cache that was left on the planet. However, these new "cruel ones" find themselves the victims of a surprise attack by the mysterious Ewok warrior of myth known as...

Star Wars Just Changed A Fan-Fave Hero Forever with A Single Word We Never Saw Coming

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Ewoks #2Star Wars has just changed a fan-favorite Return of the Jedi hero with only a single word. Things are getting a little fuzzy This Week in Star Wars Comics. It's the anniversary of Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure this month, so it's only fitting there's a big focus on Ewoks this week. There is also a bit of The High Republic thrown in there too. Let's dive into it!

Ewoks #2

It's a battle for the heart of Endor and Bright Tree Village. While the Ewoks debate whether or not they should be welcoming to outsiders, bounty hunters 4-lom and Zuckuss invade to search for Imperial weapons. Will this sway the debate to close welcoming offworlders for good, or can Wicket, along with the warrior Meedro, convince his people there are good people in the world? And who is the Red Ghost and what role does she play in all of this? Ewoks #2 is written by Steve Orlando,...

Star Wars Reveals How Return of the Jedi Changed Ewok Culture Forever

Marvel's Star Wars comics have shown how Ewok culture changed forever in the wake of the Galactic Civil War. Following the Battle of Endor, after their Rebel allies and Imperial antagonists known to the Ewoks as "the cruel ones" have left the forest moon, the indigenous inhabitants must deal with a dilemma within their society, regarding what to do about future visitors.

In the preview for Star Wars: Ewoks (2024) #2 written by Steve Orlando, with art by Laura Braga and Alvaro Lopez a small group of Imperials arrive in Bright Tree Village in search for a weapons cache. 4-lom, who has been hired by the Imperials, translates to the Ewoks and requests a place to stay for the night and a guide.

4-lom claims they are emissaries for the Adversary, the Ewok god of darkness, which puts the Ewok community at odds with each other.

When Emperor Palpatine was killed during the Battle of Endor in Return of The Jedi, the forces that served under him understandably refused to admit defeat to the Rebel Alliance. But one Imperial in particular is taking extreme measures to make sure the galaxy doesn't learn the full extent of the Rebels' victory. So who is Grand Moff Ubrik Adelhard, the new big bad of Marvel's Star Wars universe?

Moff Adelhard is already the main antagonist in Marvel's Star Wars: The Battle of Jakku - Insurgency Rising. But in Ewoks #1, the Grand Moff discusses with General Koyatta, the administrator of a weapons depot buried on Endor, about going back to the moon to retrieve weapons for the Empire. So if other Imperial officers are now answering to Adelhard, he may have a bigger influence than I originally thought. Could this be a successor to Emperor Palpatine himself?

Grand Moff Ubrik...

Star Wars Confirms A Classic Villain Became a God After Return of the Jedi
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Ewoks #1Star Wars has revealed a classic bounty hunter has become a "god" in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi. Following the Battle of Endor, the Rebellion left the Ewoks of Bright Tree village to continue fighting the fractured Empire. However, it's been revealed that the Empire wasn't quite done with the forest moon, having hired bounty hunters to assist in recovering a secret weapons cache still on Endor.

In Marvel Comics' new and canonical Ewoks #1 by Steven Orlando, Alvaro Lopez, and Laura Braga, the Empire's General Koyatta has been tasked by Governor Adelhard to retrieve this secret weapons cache to support the ongoing war with the Rebellion that won't truly end until the Battle of Jakku. To that end, Koyatta hires a former Imperial scout trooper, a Dowutin tracker named Koll Orvenk, and The Empire Strikes Back's classic bounty hunters, Zuckuss and 4-lom.

Star Wars Debuts the Most Badass Ewok in the Franchise
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: Ewoks #1

Set in the aftermath of Return of the Jedi and the Battle of Endor, a new Ewoks series from Marvel has revealed that the Empire isn't quite done with the forest moon. While the Rebellion might have left to keep fighting the remaining Imperials, the tribes of Bright Tree village now have to reconcile with new threats on their own, and this includes the mighty warrior known as Meedro.

As seen in Marvel's new and canonical Ewoks #1 by Steve Olando, Alvaro Lopez, and Laura Braga, a task force of Imperials and bounty hunters is returning to claim a secret weapons cache hidden away on the forest moon on Endor. Star Wars Reveals the Ewoks' Surprising Fate Once the Rebels Left Endor
Image
Warning! This post contains a preview for Star Wars: Ewoks #1

A new Star Wars series is teasing the canonical fate of the Ewoks in the aftermath of Endor. While the primitive bear-like natives of Endor were crucial in the Rebels' defeat of the Empire in Return of the Jedi, the Galactic Civil War didn't end on Endor despite the second Death Star's destruction and the Sith Lords' defeat. As such, new threats are emerging, and the Ewoks are now seemingly on their own.

Following the Battle of Endor, a new preview for Marvel's Ewoks #1 by Steve Orlando, Alvaro Lopez, Laura Braga reveals that the pieces of the remaining Empire still have a vested interest in the forest moon. This is due to a large weapons depot hidden on the moon, resulting in new teams of Imperials being sent to retrieve the vast cache of weapons in the ongoing battle with the Rebellion.

All 10 Star Wars Animated TV Shows, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
In the past decade, Star Wars has become well-known for its fantastic animated TV shows. In fact, Star Wars animated shows have become so popular that the franchises live-action series have begun to highlight, cameo, and rely on characters from animation. The Ahsoka series, released in 2023, marked a big moment of recognition for the animated side of Star Wars, as it was the first live-action series devoted to a character from Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Nevertheless, Star Wars has been dabbling in animation since 1985 and has a total of ten released TV shows thus far.

Since 1985, Star Wars has also produced several micro-series and animated shorts, such as Genndy Tartakovskys Star Wars: Clone Wars and Forces of Destiny. As far as the full-length animated series are concerned, seven of Star Wars ten animated series are currently part of canon. Despite all of these series either being completed or having...

New ‘Star Wars’ Series Reflects Lucas’ Original Vision for ‘Return of the Jedi’
Image
George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise stands as a cornerstone of modern science fiction. What began as an ambitious space opera has evolved into one of the most successful and beloved franchises in history. Over several decades, Star Wars has captivated multiple generations and remains one of the most well-crafted fictional universes ever created.

While the films are largely adored by fans, even the original trilogy faced criticism and issues. Although The Empire Strikes Back is often hailed as the franchise’s flawless installment, Lucas’s other films received their share of criticism from fans and commentators.

This report will focus on Return of the Jedi, particularly its most controversial element: the Ewoks. The new animated series Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy revisits the pivotal battle from Episode VI and reminds us that Lucas’ original plans were quite different.

If you’ve watched the new Lego Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy animated series,...

New ‘Star Wars’ Series Reminds Us of Lucas’ Original Plan for ‘Return of the Jedi’
Image
George Lucas’ Star Wars franchise is a pillar of modern science fiction. What started out as a relatively ambitious space opera project became one of the most lucrative and popular franchises in history. Being present for several decades now, Star Wars has raised multiple generations of fans and it still remains one of the best fictional universes ever created.

And while the movies are more or less loved by the fans, even the original trilogy had its issues and critics. While we could say that The Empire Strikes Back is the one flawless Star Wars film, Lucas received criticism for each of his other films, as the fans and commentators did not like every aspect of these movies.

In this report, we are going to focus on Return of the Jedi, as we are going to revisit the Ewoks, the most controversial aspect of the original trilogy. Why? Well, the...

George Lucas' Forgotten Star Wars TV Shows Prove The Franchise Belongs To Everyone
Image
George Lucass obscure Star Wars TV shows and movies of the 1980s demonstrate that the franchise has always appealed to a broad range of viewers. For decades, the Star Wars franchise has grown well beyond its initial status as a game-changing epic science-fantasy film series. With two main continuities, a prequel and sequel trilogy of films, and a plethora of non-movie properties, Star Wars has become a massive transmedia franchise whose stories often tackle dark and complex subject matter, yet it is easy to lose sight of its original target audience.

The Star Wars franchise remained relatively strong even in the years following Return of the Jedi. The stories of the original trilogy heroes continued in Marvels classic Star Wars comics, while George Lucas would serve as the executive producer of two animated shows one focusing on C-3Po and R2-D2 and the other starring the Ewoks of Endor...

New details about upcoming Ewoks comic series teases something for all fans
Image
A new comic miniseries focusing on the Ewoks will soon be coming our way, and it looks spectacular. The four-issue Marvel series will be called Star Wars: Ewoks, and it will take place shortly after Return of the Jedi. Throughout the series, the Ewoks must defend the Forest Moon of Endor from vicious bounty hunters who are determined to get their hands on a precious stockpile of Imperial weaponry.

Writer Steve Orlando recently granted an interview to GamesRadar+ about the comic series, and he dropped a plethora of intriguing details. He revealed that after the events of Return of the Jedi, the Ewoks start to consider the possibility of establishing ties with beings from other worlds and with the other sentient beings that live on the Forest Moon of Endor.

The series will no doubt grant us an insight into how Ewoks view their role within the larger galaxy, which should be fascinating for fans.

After 41 Years, It’s Time You Know a Disturbing Fact about Ewoks That Makes Them Scarier Than the Sarlacc: George Lucas Didn’t Disclose it For a Reason
Image
The Star Wars universe is populated by several species, with Ewoks being one of the most popular ones from the galaxy far, far away. The species was first introduced in 1983’s Return of the Jedi and worked with the Rebels to defeat the Empire. However, the film implies there is a darker side to the adorable primitive race of aliens.

Ewoks were introduced in Return of the Jedi (Credit: Lucasfilm).

In some supplementary media from the franchise created by George Lucas, Ewoks have been revealed to be carnivorous. However, the alien species is also implied to have an interest in eating humans. As a result, some fans believe that the Ewoks are even scarier than the Sarlacc because of their dark side, which Lucas has never explicitly disclosed.

Ewoks Most Likely Ate Stormtroopers Which Makes Them Scarier Than the Sarlacc

The alien race of Ewoks first appeared in Return of the Jedi,...

Tim Burton's Beetlejuice Cartoon Is Almost Impossible To Watch Today
Image
Tim Burton's 1988 classic "Beetlejuice" is a delightful supernatural comedy about a lovable and recently-deceased couple trying (and constantly failing) to scare a very much living family of off-putting city folks from their home — all before the titular bio-exorcist comes in to wreak havoc. Now, after what seems like a lifetime of waiting, Tim Burton is back with a sequel that has become much personal to him in recent years.

That sequel, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" seems to grab inspiration from another, oft-forgotten "Beetlejuice" title — the animated series of the same name, which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC. Burton created the show alongside David Geffen (the producer who went on to co-create DreamWorks) and the animation production company behind "Ewoks" and "The Magic School Bus," among others. In the show, Beetlejuice is best friends with Lydia and they go on spoopy adventures, many of which parody popular films and TV shows. The...

Star Wars To Officially Reveal The Events Immediately After Return of The Jedi in 'New Era' of Storytelling
Image
New post-Return of the Jedi comics from Marvel are coming in October. The current era of canonical Star Wars comics is set to end with Star Wars #50 and Darth Vader #50. A new Ewoks series is also set after Return of the Jedi, including a "caravan of carnage".

Marvel Comics and Star Wars have officially announced a brand-new era of storytelling for the galaxy far, far away with new comics set after Return of the Jedi. Since 2020, most of Marvel's canonical comics have been set in the aftermath of The Empire Strikes Back and just before the final movie in the original trilogy. Now, Marvel is preparing to bring this current era to a close before launching new tales in the immediate aftermath of the Battle of Endor.

Revealed by Marvel Comics on X, new post-Return of the Jedi comics are coming beginning in October. In the meantime, the...

Most Fans Completely Missed the Best Star Wars Project in Years
Image
The Naboo Movie is a hilarious live reading of the Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace script by comedy legends. The show cleverly sidesteps controversial parts of the movie through deft performances, and in general, it transforms the film into a comedy masterpiece. Dynasty Typewriter, where it was shown, is a home for this kind of top comedic talent, and the result of the collaboration makes The Naboo Movie a standout Star Wars project of recent years.

If there's anything Star Wars fans can agree on these days, it's that they can't agree, and it feels like almost every new filmed entry in the storied franchise is born with a built-in culture battle. The vicious and apparently unrelenting online comment-section fight over The Acolyte is only the newest in a long history of conflicts of opinion in the Star Wars fandom, though, a tradition that goes all the way...

Why ‘The Acolyte’ Has Fans in a Chokehold
Image
There’s only one way to judge a new Star Wars property in this day and age: Watch it yourself.

Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte” premiered on June 4 and earned positive response from critics for the first four episodes. The audience ratings are far lower, a combination of disappointed Star Wars purists, bigots, and probably a few trolls. Mileage varies in a major franchise, but rarely this much — and for potential viewers who are curious about the series, it creates a confusing cacophony of shouted disagreement.

If you’re curious about “The Acolyte,” already firmly in its grasp, or willing to have your mind changed, I come to you humbly from a corner of the internet that this show has in an absolute chokehold. My timeline has turned into a Manny Jacinto shrine, my text chains are two dumb bitches telling each other “Exactly” (sending each other the same memes...

The Acolyte Is Now Rated Below The Star Wars Holiday Special
Image
The new Disney+ series Star Wars: The Acolyte has been under heavy fire from fans ever since it was first announced. From the unorthodox way it was announced to who would be heading up the project to even the time period the series was set in.

After the first two episodes premiered, fans did not like the show, while many critics praised it. However, the release of the third episode, which premiered earlier this week, caused many to tune out of the show, with some calling it the worst episode of any Star Wars television show.

Initially, we reported that the Rt audience score had dropped to 20%. But in less than 24 hours of that reporting, the score has since dropped again, setting a record for the show. As of the writing of this report, the series is now at an 18% audience score, meaning that the negative score has dipped below...

George Lucas Says Ideas in the Original “Sort of Got Lost” in Post-Disney ‘Star Wars’ Films
Image
“I’m a stubborn guy and I didn’t want people to tell me how to make my movies,” is how Star Wars creator George Lucas summed up the secret to his success, speaking to a crowd of fans at a packed Debussy theater in Cannes on Friday afternoon.

The 80-year-old filmmaker was being honored at the 77th Cannes festival with a Palme d’Or for his contribution to cinema, and the crowd, a much younger cohort than is usually seen at these events, whooped and hollered as Lucas walked on the stage. They were rapt as he sat down for a wide-ranging discussion of his life in the movie business.

Lucas said he felt “nostalgic” to be back in Cannes, where he presented his first feature, Thx-1138, at the Directors’ Fortnight back in 1971. His Thx-1138 co-writer and sound designer Walter Murch was in the audience as Lucas recalled how...

Star Wars: Is the Franchise Relying Too Heavily on its Animated Shows?
Image
The Star Wars animated series, especially The Clone Wars, provides additional backstory and development for the core characters of the prequel trilogy, making the overall era feel more complete. The animated shows have started to crossover into live-action shows and movies, raising concerns about the complexity of the core Star Wars stories and the obligation to watch multiple seasons of the animated shows. However, Dave Filoni, the creative force behind the animated shows, has stated that new viewers don't need to watch the old animated shows in order to understand and enjoy the newer installments in the Star Wars franchise.

The Star Wars franchise has expanded exponentially over the last decade. In the years since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, the number of new Star Wars films, shows, books, comics, and more has skyrocketed. After the acquisition in late 2012, the decision was made to de-canonize most of the previously existing Star Wars...

Star Wars Desperately Needs to Return to Animation
Image
Star Wars started as a titan of cinema, but as the original trilogy and prequels closed, it gained new traction in animation. Through animation, Star Wars evolved into something totally new as it filled in the gaps that the movies couldn't explore, from The Clone Wars to the rise of the Rebel Alliance. As a new era of Star Wars is born, animation has to be a crucial component to help expand on ideas already introduced in previous projects.

As the Star Wars universe continues to expand in every direction possible, there is one medium the franchise needs to rely on now more than ever: animation. Animated series have long been a part of Star Wars, starting initially with 2D animated series in the mid-80s like Droids and Ewoks. While these series have garnered cult followings of their own, it would be decades before animation truly revolutionized the Star Wars brand.
